The Great Spoon of Ilford in Redbridge

Possibly best presented interior Wetherspoons for daytime users at least. Comfortable cosy booths throughout plus the more open seating. Been several times and is popular with what looks a regular clientel. Food and Service is always great and prices great value for money. Very close to Valentines Park & The Shopping Mall. Great transport links buses, Elizabeth Line & Super Loop Bus nearby or pass the door.

I'm editing this review after a bad experience. Trying to buy breakfast using the app, it wouldn't work. Tried a couple of times snd still no luck. I went to the bar to order and staff refused to sell me breakfast as the clock said 12:01. Over the years I've spent so much in this place. If you want breakfast in the area, try the Titanic cafe a short walk away.

I'm not usually one for posting pictures of food, but at £2.25 for a freedom breakfast, I felt I had to make an exception. Combine that with unlimited tea, coffee or hot chocolate for an additional £1.04 and you can't go wrong. Not all wetherspoon's do this deal but you can search on the app for the ones that do. I'm going to Swansea in a few weeks and found one there that does the same deal

Could do with a refurbishment and allow for larger garden as car park aint needed. Would be nice to have entertainment too.

Can't fault this place staff were very accommodating. Prices were cheap for a pub and food was cooked well.

An ok Wetherspoon, not generally too crowded and not as chronically understaffed as some places!

I'm from Germany and in summer of 2018, I spent my holidays in London for a week and I discovered this pub. I was absolutely surprised. The meal I have chosen was the Sirloin Steak and some kind of finger food. It was very tasty and the staff is kind too. I visited this pub two or three times within that holiday week.

Staff are friendly tables are clean all the time food and drinks very good price been here a few times for food very hot and quick service this is gonna be the better one out of the moon and stars in Romford

Arguably the best place in Ilford to hangout with friends over food and drinks. Great value for money . Both food and drinks are reasonably priced. I had mixed grill and cider, both of which did not disappoint. Very spacious and lots of tables available inside which means that the waiting time was relatively less as compared to other popular places in the area.

Great place. The coffee is just 1.02 and you can have free refills. The prices are very cheap. There is a lot of place and it is also clean. I come there every week.

Food was ok but no custard for apple crumble, dirty tables, could not find condiments, they were other end of a crowded pub, Iong wait will not be going back.

Nice cheap food and drinks, atmosphere is usually good too. Service on the other wasn't good when my wife and I went. Waited at bar for ages to be served, female bartender was there talking to a waiter, saw us as soon as we approached the bar and turned away. I intentionally coughed and eventually said "excuse me" a couple of times. She turned, looked at us and turned her back to us again, and continued talking away. An Indian male came out and served us immediately. We were about to walk out too.

If you ignore the old drunks sometimes slurring at your table, the food and drinks are cheap and the service is quick.

I was taken to lunch to the Great Spoon 3 December 2019 and $ August 2023 but was eager to have the Gourmet Meatless Farm™ Burger, chips and a Mango Monster cocktail {Raspberry Mocktail in 2023). . . . it didn't disappoint, in fact I was surprised at how good it was, enthusing to the waitress when she came to see how we were. This burger was succulent and rich, with beef tomatoes, lettuce and red onions and lovely chunky chips, delicious. During my 2019 visit it smelt of stale beer, the menu's feel sticky and I did have to ask for our 12 noon table to be cleaned, but the staff were pleasant, the food fantastic and even the ladies toilets were clean and tidy if up a flight of stairs(there's a accessibility one on the ground floor). In 2023 there was less beer smell and all tables were cleaned I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and had there been any vegan desserts (both times the Apple Crumble online wasn't available) I'd have had more than just a cup of tea to round the meal off. I'd have preferred to sit outside on the terrace but my friend is more delicate and wanted to be in the shade Even though it was August there were no kids about so it's a nice place to escape to for a child free few hours I would recommend it for a good casual meal at a low price.

Great,it wasn't too busy on that day. I enjoyed my glass of wine while we had dinner with my friend. My favourite thing about this place is bcs has divided tables with beaches left side of the pub when u enter in. It also has some pictures and books perfect for people who want to just to sit read a book while having a drink by them self perfect for me ;) after work to relax with or without my kids.

Fairly decent and clean spoons.

My wife left this place feeling hungry after we ordered the ‘simple curry’ instead of the regular curry by mistake and they refused to sell us the naan bread separately even though they had it. How ridiculous is it for an eating place refusing to sell you something they have available? Classic example of ‘Computer says no’.

Service was spectacular friendly staff wonderful experience absolutely cannot fault. Best Weatherspoons there is. Just a pity I live nowhere near it.

I called in on 04/06/2021 at 11.45am for a beer following all the Covid rules (completed the Test and Trace form. Unfortunately, the hand sanitiser was empty) and found a table, 3 feet from the bar and I waited around 5 minutes at the table clearly seen by bar staff. While waiting to be served, 2 new customers arrived at the bar, one was wearing a mask and the other was not. All credit to the bar tender for asking the customer not wearing a mask to put on a face covering. The customer replied: "I'm exempt" but was not challenged or asked to take a seat. The bar tender then proceeded to serve the 2 new arrivals who were standing at the bar before me. I left after a few minutes and walked for an enjoyable pint at Jono's, where I was warmly welcomed and served almost immediately.

We were a party of 6 people went for a meal at table 65 between 12.30 and 3.45 waitress was rude took our order and managed to forget two people so they got their meal after four had finished I think management should monitor staff better no excuse for rudeness

What an absolutely dive this place is and staffed with a bunch of halfwits who are rude and not too bright. Never a week goes buy with staff arguing with customers. Avoid it like the plague. Same type of establishment as The Barking Dog in Barking which I commented on as well. Where are all the nice pubs?

So glad for the business, I will be in touch in the near future. There’s many nearest the restaurants location where it is likely to be different. Myself and a few friends visited this pub for a meal and drinks for a catch up. During our visit, we witnessed a drunken disorderly older gentleman who was shouting and chanting which was disturbing our meal and I believe everyone else who was in. The pub at the time. To which a few young staff members were sent over to the table at which he was seated to say something to which he did not respond. At the time the manager was no where to be seen during the event or behind the bar so the situation was not resolved and continued.I do believe there is a duty of care which was not displayed at all and when the man was finally escorted off the premises it was fine in a very loud and unprofessional manner. To which one of the young ladies bragged to another table of customers about the gentleman’s hygiene which was shocking to hear. As the man could barely stand I was shocked to see that he was still being served and I believe the man was just left outside the front of the pub to which I was concerned about his safety.

Place is lively especially on weekends. It is good for groups, couples and solo visit. I recommend this place however it could be cleaner. 4 out of 5 stars.

Ilford giorno 1, stanchi del viaggio decidiamo di fermarci in questo pub, vicinissimo peraltro al nostro alloggio (sarebbero seguite varie fugaci bevute lontano dalle nostre signore). Solo dopo avremmo scoperto che in zona ce n'era (inspiegabilmente) solo un altro (ma molto più scrauso).Location tipica da pub inglese, molti legni (finto classico un po' fastidioso alla vista), moquette in terra (con tutti i problemi che scaturiscono da un servizio non al tavolo, non ho mai visto versare tanta birra a terra come in questo posto) ambiente tutto sommato ovattato con la netta sensazione che sia frequentato quotidianamente dalle stesse persone (un po' come sentirsi a casa... Ma di altri)Bonus: l'ambiente è molto ampio, con vari tipi di sedute e location così da poter decidere di volta in volta la comodità della serata (anche tavolini più appartati all'occorrenza)Malus: dopo le 22.00 non è più possibile consumare all'esterno e se si è in compagnia di fumatori incalliti pregiudica la buona riuscita della serata (alcolica) La "moquette" a terra ovviamente assorbe e restituisce, non c'è puzza ma sicuramente il locale ha un suo "aroma" distinto... Il menù è purtroppo di difficile consultazione (sembra scritto esclusivamente per i locali) e quindi con le poche nozioni in possesso si va a finire sempre sul classico panino, quando ci si potrebbe concentrare su portate "tipiche" che sicuramente avrebbero un'impatto maggiore (sia per l'avventore che per la proprietà). Discutibile la scelta dei distillati (parlo del gin in particolare) che seppur in buon numero verteva su strane aromatizzazioni (tipicamente locali) che a mio avviso stonano con la grande tradizione dei London Dry inglesi... Servizio rapido, mediamente preciso ma estremamente impersonale... Non credo sia un discorso verso i turisti, ma proprio un modo di fare del londinese di questa parte della città (questo è l'unico posto visitato insieme allo Sturbucks in cui lavorano solo locali). L'unica addetta al tavolo (solo per il cibo, le bevande si ordinano e prendono al bancone) era forse la persona più cordiale, ma oberata di lavoro (era da sola) finiva per rimanere anche lei sottotono.Prezzi veramente ottimi, sia per il cibo sia per il "beverage", il costo delle portate è comprensivo di bibita (pochissima differenza tra alcolica e analcolica); la pinta (riempita compulsivamente fino all'orlo) raramente costa più di 2 pounds e mezzo, cosa che a distanza di tempo ancora mi stupisce. (usanza vuole che i locali per evitare la coda le acquistino a due alla volta). Da quello che ho sentito il posto è un luogo "Cult" della zona, quindi di consigli da dispensare ce ne sarebbero veramente pochi, forse solo l'esemplificazione del menù (o meglio renderlo più fruibile ai turisti) e magari creare una zona "smoke friendly" (probabilmente c'era ma io non ho avuto il piacere) per il resto davvero bene così...Sicuramente un posto che merita la visita, anche se poi a pensarci bene meglio con un amico per una birra che con la famiglia per un panino (dopo le 20.00 i bambini sotto i 18 anni non possono entrare). Per amanti del bere più che del mangiare, ma questo forse già lo potevate immaginare...

Must be the least populated Wetherspoons we've ever been in especially as it was a Saturday lunch time, it was virtually empty. Was there something we didn't know?Had a choice of tables and we ordered lunch and drinks. Of course one item couldn't be ordered, getting used to that in Wetherspoons now.Anyway food arrived after a longer wait than we usually experience. Although not piping hot it was acceptable and it was the usual Wetherspoons standard.Nothing special about this Spoons, no old building saved here and no real history.

Unser erste mal in Ilford war Ende September 2017 . Und wir waren im Hotel the Lucky 8 untergebracht. Da wir erst spät abends da an kamen, blieben wir in Ilford um uns dort mal umzuschauen und man gab uns den Tipp, das man im Golden Spoon of Ilford super und günstig essen könne. Davon überzeugten wir uns selber . Und schon das Ambiente war sehr gemütlich typisch britisch und das Personal sehr freundlich. Also gingen wir auch dieses mal wieder abends da essen . Und können nur sagen : we love it Da wir dieses mal 4 Tage in Ilford waren dachten wir uns das wir Sonntags auch da zu Abend essen. Zu unserer Enttäuschung , gibt es Sonntags leider kein Essen . Noch mehr ein Grund wieder zu kommen um eure Makkaroni&Cheese und Apple-Crumble zu probieren!!! Das Essen und Getränke sind echt super. Ist echt zu empfehlen.

The turnover of staff is huge, including management. Waiting time at the bar can sometimes be long and the staff don't seem to be able to clock who was there first. They recently had to close the kitchen "for technical reasons" no explanation given. Then a couple of weeks later they had a problem with their cooler and couldn't serve any draft beer for over a week. Also, they had a problem with their delivery and so ran out of bottled beer as well. Disastrous for them but good for the other local pubs. My flatmate likes a pint of Abbot and we normally go there on a Sunday before dinner so he can have a couple of pints - however, on probably two out of every four Sundays the Abbot is not on. We have started going to the Wetherspoons in Leytonstone instead. I think if it wasn't for all the local contractors in the area, the pub wouldn't survive

Der bestimmt größte Pub auf der Straße. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich bedient aber die arbeitende Bevölkerung immer mit Vorrang ! Gehen Feierabend wird es sehr voll bei der Steakkarte, das chicken Spezial kann man überspringen !

Bar staff are clueless and hopeless. 20 minutes at the bar to get a drink, no bottled beer and hardly any draft! Would recommend or come here again. Tall mixed race girl should be sacked, no manners at all.

We ate here twice on our recent visit to London. Fish & chips were excellent, as was the selection of beers. We watched a World Cup semifinal match there one evening. Sausage (aka Bangers) - very tasty, but we could have done without the frozen peas (mashed or not).

Typical Wetherspoons - good food at a good price and a good pint. Large seating area and good service.

4 of us went for a meal early evening. No steaks. No mixed grills. Disappointment for 3 of us. Staff were not friendly merely business like, strike us as rather stressed. Under staffing? I would say not rude, not not welcoming. Used other London weatherspoons and received different response.

After Our 1st Visit My Wife And I Was Recommended To Try The Pizza By Shelly (think was her name) And Wow What A Great Choice It Was Best Pizza I've Had In A While, Not Only Recommending The Perfect Pizza She Was Very Polite And Helpful . Will Defo Be Back

Terrible service. We found a table, dirty from a previous occupant, as were many others. Not a great start. We ordered using the app, a great idea, as we have in other establishmets. A vegan pizza with chicken as my partner has an intolerance to dairy.

We had a lovely selection of food. Our waiter, Jordon, was very helpful and friendly. We would definitely go there again to eat and would recommend it.

I have been coming here for 3 months and I rarely provide feedback on anything but I have to say the staff here are great. Sarah L, Naomi and mark in particular, they are friendly, polite and make it a nice place to come to. I also have to say that on the rare occasions that there has been a problem person in the pub, Mark is amazing at how he deals with it. No fuss, just sorts it and the person is gone. Well done. Used as we was stopping in the area for work,so called in after work when we got back to hotel,very clean weatherspoons had burger and a pint and was quickly served so didnt have to wait for something to eat must say the burger n chips where fantastic and not to dear to buy,staff always had a smile on there faces and was plenty of people in, used the next night this time for drinks only but again staff very plesant with a smile.overall would use again anytime we back in ilford

Best thing is the beer is cheap. Food is ok. They don’t accept debit or credit cards anymore. Kids welcome until 9pm.

Generous helping of Eggs Benedict, with good ham and nicely soft poached eggs came to £4.60, including unlimited coffee. Friendly efficient staff too.

It was a lovely spoons, and heaven compared to the hell that we had just escaped (York hotel). The food was cooked great, the only thing I didn’t like (maybe it’s because I’ve never been to a spoons in London) but when we ordered alcohol over the app a server came over to ID us, which was fine and as you’d expect, but she had a bulletproof vest on with a camera recording us. It was just a little startling but apart from that everything else was lovely ! We had a corner booth near the door and it was quiet in there which was nice!

The pub is clean and tidy and quiet for a Wetherspoons , we had lunch here which was fine ,so decided on breakfast the next day before heading in to the City

I had breakfast there this morning. Ordered large breakfast with scambled eggs and extra black pudding. I chose scrambled eggs instead of fried because fried is generally served almost as raw as it left the hens vent, (can't believe that I'm the only one who experiences this).

Molto vasta è la scelta delle birre (a me sono piaciute molto la Doom's bar e la Essex Beast), fish and chips buono. Assieme ai miei amici, l'abbiamo ribattezzato con simpatia "Il cucchiaione"!

We thought we would try this place on our 2nd night in the UK. We walked into what looked like a nice enough place. Very big. We picked a table which looked a little cleaner than the rest, then realised it was really sticky as were the menus. I had to clean the table myself with wet wipes as no-one came near us. No sign to say whether it's table service or you order at the bar. We asked and they said you had to order at the bar. My husband went to order and was ignored by the bar staff as they were too busy chatting and laughing with each other to notice he, and other people were stood waiting. One of these was the Manageress. We order Fish and Chips, which came quite quickly and was nice. This is the only good thing I can say about it. You have to pay at the till and if you don't ask they don't give you a receipt. Such a shame a big place like that should be run by people who care, not people who care less.

No chillies on the nachos and hardly any cheese..... has brexit already happened and ive missed it. Drive thru burger very tastey

We hebben hier met z'n tweeën gegeten. Heerlijke, betaalbare fish 'n chips. Veel keuze in alcohol, vooral bier en gin. Het is een echte pub, dus je moet aan de bar bestellen, daarna werd het gebracht. Je kon ook bestellen met een app. Nadelen waren de toiletten en sommige bezoekers. De mannen- en vrouwentoiletten waren vies. Bezoekers zijn alleen mannen, het is echt een man cave. Ze zijn luidruchtig door de alcohol en bot. Verder prima ervaring, aanrader.

Wir waren an unserem letzten Abend in England in dieser Lokalität.

Stood waiting in front of beer pumps to order food on a not particularly busy evening and was point blank ignored by the manageress who kept serving new costumers at the bar ahead of myself and my mother then wandered off, did stuff and came back and served another group despite making eye contact with us. After a while i asked another server if we had to stand somewhere in particular to order and we eventually got served. Handing over a Scottish £20 the server checked with the manageresss who said they couldn't take it (a different server did say that was daft as it was sterling currency and she had accepted it before with permission from senior managers) very poor attitude from the manageress, really lets down the Weatherspoons brand.

Just come in for a drink after a long journey. The big lady behind the bar was an absolute nightmare.

Although it was a large and crowded pub/restaurant orders moved at a prompt pace. The menu had a great selection. Kids were welcome. You could get craft beer if you wished. We had wine and it was well priced and served at the best temperature. The service was fast, the food was served quickly. The portions were large and there was no way you would leave hungry. You could eat inside the premises or on tables right outside the door. The atmosphere was great and the staff were friendly and helpful. We had a great time

Went for breakfast after staying in Ilford for the night. Had to wait ages to be served as there was only 1 person serving, She was very slow and didnt seem to want to be there. Eventually got our breakfast which had items missing. Had to wait again just to tell the girl behind the bar that things were missing by which time my breakfast was going cold. Requested the missing toast and butter which arrived 20 minutes later. Obviously we had all eaten our breakfast by then. Not very good if these pubs are supposedly AWARD WINNING!! we wont be going back

Well cart say we enjoyed our self at this weatherspoons, The lady whom served our meal was friendly and helpful but some of the other staff need retraining in customer service. My daughter ask a young lad where the sauces where, he did not look up from wiping a table and gestured with his had over there. Sorry thats not what we expect in any of our two home Weatherspoons the waiter or waitress would have ask where we where sitting and gone and got them for us. The meal was lukewarm chips over cooked. Sorry not exceptable for one of the top chains in this country. Will not be going here again

Waited 20 mins for my meal in an pub where there was only a few eating . Then the manager ran past my table shouting chicken and ribs combo and threw my plate on the table whilst still spinning on its axis. I tried to ask for condiments but was to late she had gone . After leaving my table to find the condiments at the other end of the pub , I sat down to my meal . It was ok ish the cooking oil tasted a bit well used but edible . Nobody ask if my meal was ok throughout my visit . I tried to get the attention of the manager to say what I thought but she had no time for me . Won’t be visiting there again . It seems the manager has lost sight of the customer . I must say the other staff were very pleasant at the bar .

Went in on a curry night. I ordered cod and chips. The fish batter and chips had a spicy/curry taste. Removed batter from fish. I ate about 6 chips and left them as I they were horrible. Wasted money.
