The Great Lyde Pub & Restaurant in South Somerset

I took an 89 year old friend to have the Sunday carvery. The food was perfect and the staff were really friendly and kind. My friend said that the meat was lovely, and tender, rather necessary with 89 year old teeth! She also said that the atmosphere was like being amongst friends and that this was her favourite place to eat. Mine too!

Went in as a walk in on a Friday night and had a great value steak meal. The steak was perfectly cooked with the best chips I have ever had. Can't fault the service and the friendly staff. I would recommend you give the restaurant a try, you will be pleasantly surprised.

First time going there and the food was delicious everything was piping hot great choice of vegetables and meat .The staff were very polite and didn't have to wait long excellent will be going again very soon

Went today 4 of us and can't honestly say all 4 of us really enjoyed the food and service highly recommended 👌

The food was perfect! A proper pub menu with something that everyone would like, and really good prices. The bar staff were great fun and made is feel very welcome.

Mid week carvery (Wednesday) the perfect place to eat. They do a special deal for the elderly and easy access for the Disabled. The food itself is very good and the sticky toffee pudding out of this world. 5 stars 🌟

2nd week of the new Wednesday carvery. It's really excellent quality. All really well cooked (no soggy veggies), great service and a fine treat.

Midweek (Wednesday) carvery is fantastic, they do different size plates to accommodate everyone. Hot food, great service great puds well worth a visit

Booked table for 7 person for 2.30.waitress took our drinks order,waited 3/4 hour for drinks didn't get them,she had gone for dinner.had to go to bar and re-order.went for carvery and there was virtually no vegetables left but potatoes.carrots cabbage.parsnips.but very limited. My partner had NO veg apart from potatoes.yet they say serving is till 5.00.did get slight discount but VERY disappointed.will not be going back.

Great place with quick friendly service and tasty food!

Popped in for the carvery at 1:00pm, hadn't booked but managed to get a table and so glad we did , food was awesome and good price , been to a few local carvery places and this is definitely one of the top places to go , will definitely be going back again.

I am absolutely disgusted I came here for a Mother’s Day treat and was eating my pudding and found someone’s earring in it I messaged the page multiple times and haven’t had a response. I am appalled so I will not be returning, I will be contacting the environmental health and reporting this

Went for a carvery and you can not fault the food ! Will be returning no question about that. The only let down for me was the service, very slow although it was Mother’s Day and very busy so I did cut them some slack on that but waitresses very slow with taking orders snd forgot to take our drink orders so we had to prompt them several times. I also witnessed the waitresses playing rock paper scissors for who took the orders when the table next to me asked to place orders for puddings after waiting a long long time as we did which I thought wasn’t very professional but with all that said the manager was very apologetic about it and was very friendly and will definitely visit again . Very affordable prices and very good portion sizes and as said before food was top notch highly recommended!!

Decided to try the great lude after many years for the wife's get together and was super glad we did the carvery was absolutely amazing with more than enough food for all of us and the price was brilliant too will definitely make this a regular again for sure !

I’ve never been here before, but have heard it has been less than desirable in the past. I’ve seen all the good reviews recently and thought we’d give it a go for Sunday carvery. I was not disappointed and can happily say I agree with all the good reviews! The food was brilliant for the price. Meat was lovely, potatoes nice and crispy, vegetables cooked to perfection. All very tasty and we ate loads. The service staff forgot to bring some drinks over, and one of our puddings, but she did say the till was broken so it had made things difficult for them to keep track of what was going where. And as soon as we asked, they brought it over immediately. All staff were super lovely, friendly and welcoming and apologised for any inconveniences and so it wasn’t really a big deal at all. Excellent customer service. Very happy over all and will definitely be coming back again. Especially as my little boy fell in love with Chester the pub bulldog and has insisted that we see him again!

Fresh beer, large portions of food for a cheap price, a nice traditional pub.

Have been a couple of times now. The landlord is lovely and welcoming. The food is great, we have only been on a Sunday. It is child friendly which is nice. Price is reasonable. Oh and they have a beautiful dog that greets everyone

We arrived very late for the carvery and there was still lots of meat and a large variety perfectly cooked vegetables on offer. The staff were friendly and engaging. A very relaxed atmosphere and a fantastic carvery, very impressed.

Thoroughly enjoyed a Sunday Roast at The Great Lyde. A good selection of vegetables, including peas which you never normally get at a carvery, delicious turkey, cauliflower cheese and crisp but fluffy roast potatoes. The Biscoff Cheesecake was outstanding! The staff were super friendly, very polite and attentive and the place was nice and clean. A great family local pub, with lovely food which is good value for money.

Went there for a Sunday carvery. Excellent food and great service. The meal was reasonably priced with a choice of large, medium, or small size portions. We will certainly be going back again and I also noticed that they offer a take away service which we might well take advantage of at some time. I can definitely recommend the Great Lyde for a superb Sunday lunch.

The roast was absolutely amazing, with a nice selection of meats and vegetables. The potatoes could have been a bit more crispy but staff and atmosphere was lovely.

Came up for a carvery and was very pleasantly surprised with the food, tasted lovely and was kept nice and hot aswell! Would definitely recommend and will be back in the future for sure!

Sadly, despite the website advertising meals, the only person there was a lonely bartender in a dark room. They lost their chef, and they haven't updated their website in a long time. We had a meal here in 1996, and my husband's grandfather was born in Great Lyde House back in 1898, so we were taking a trip down memory lane.

Very tasty carvery, excellent friendly service. We went today for my nephews 30th birthday and all had a great time.

Had a lovely meal here tonight. All freshly cooked, presented well and tasted delicious. They accommodated with no hassle for my daughter who requested a slight change in her meal. The waiter was amazing, nothing was a problem and he was kind and helpful. All round just perfect! 😊

I found this pub great. A lovely pint, which is a good thing this day and age. Nice friendly staff, and great service. A nice size car park is available too.

Fantastic pub, really nice beer garden

So after call after call to book for my bday meal saying "can we get a table for 2" we never got a call back but decided to head on down to find that there is no food. The reason we wanted here is it was round the corner and since I'm always "Des" it meant I could drink on my bday......apparently not. Luckily I managed to get a last minute table else where but now have the added cost of transport. All of which could of been avoided had they had the manners to just return a phone call.

I found this place on Google as we were staying in Yeovil and wanted a Sunday carvery. All I can say is it didn’t disappoint, it was amazing. There were 3 sizes of plates on offer and the selection of meats and vegetables was perfect. I have to mention the crispy roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese particularly. The staff were so friendly and attentive and the landlord came over to ask if everything was ok which was really appreciated. All in all I would highly recommend the Sunday carvery here and I hope that we are able to visit again if we are in Yeovil.

Found this place online and can honestly say it met our every expectation. There was a choice of carvery size and fabulous selection of meats and vegetables. The roast potatoes were lovely and crispy. All staff were friendly and welcoming and I would highly recommend this place

Enjoyed a visit for their Sunday Carvery. Friendly welcome from staff of this family run restaurant. Not too busy, but we had booked. Nice outdoor seating area. On offer was chicken. ham, pork and gammon. Yorkshire puddings. potatoes. cauliflower cheese, carrots, other veg.stuffing. gravy. then sauces ie cranberry. We all enjoyed our food in a nice relaxed atmosphere. A enjoyable family sunday meal ;)

After being invited to sample the new chef at the Great Lyde I can thoroughly say how much I'd recommend a visit. It was busy and the staff kept on top as best as they could, attentive and great service. As for the food it was filling and lovely to the taste , we will be back !

One star awarded only because the place, during this reviewers visit, was closed - it being a Covid casualty. I'm sure the place deserves more than this. Indeed, being on the Cask Marque Ale Trail (and the original purpose of the sojourn) would have earned it 5 stars forthwith. This will not be my final appraisal - reading the notes of others, there is much to commend the establishment for. Watch this space dear reader.

Went to the bingo here with a friend. Bar man friendly when he worked out how to open the till. Had an enjoyable evening.

Great carvery with plenty of veg choice 👍

This review is based on the service I received from their delivery driver whilst this restaurant were doing takeaway deliveries. The option was available to pay via cash. As this was all I had this is what I chose. I was faced with a very rude driver who wasn't able to give me any change that I am owed and moaned to me about paying via cash. I was told I will get it back with my next order but you guys decided to stop doing takeaway deliveries and now I am owed £3 which due to not being able to drive and being disabled I will never receive.

Delicious carvery, really friendly staff, lovely place

Just had their vegetarian roast which was a vegetarian tart, this had a soggy bottom tasted ok but didn't go with gravy, the veg didn't taste right and what I am guessing was swed was sludge and watery. Massive disappointment, you can tell it's not a trained chef in the kitchen with what was produced. Only silver lining was they offered vegetarian, gluten free and vegan options but I wouldn't eat from there again.

Booked here for a Sunday roast for 2 originally and rang back a few minutes later to ammend it to 4 and they were happy to accommodate which was great. When we arrived they had no tables available in the restaurant so we had to sit on a table by the front door and bar where we had two dogs sat under the chairs, which we don't mind normally but when food is out its not ideal. A young girl took our drink order, we asked for 2 orange juices and 2 orange and lemonade, 2 orange juice came out but we were waiting for a while for the other 2 drinks before we had to say something and they came. We were waiting a while before someone came and asked if we were having roast, and brought over our roast menus. Once they were collected it was then quite a while till we got our food, and there was also no broccoli, not a huge deal but still an inconvenience. So after our food we were asked if we want the dessert menu, it was brought over. The girl that brought over the menu then went home and we waited a while again till we were then asked again if we would like the dessert menu. So we told them we already have it but the girl that gave it to us is gone. So they went to collect someone else, then we were asked by someone else if were having dessert but we decided to leave it. We were polite throughout as we could see it was busy. But if it was this busy we never should have been able to book. Shame cus I heard good reviews before. Possible just a very busy day.

We booked a table for half past 2 then on arrival we get told there's no room in restaurant do you mind sitting in the bar. A staff member took are drinks order then brought over half our drinks order then left to serve other people . We then placed our food order which you do yourself on a form. Over an hour later they come to table and say after we have finish the next takeout order we are next. The waitress then comes over and says we don't have some of our food we ordered. And offered extra of something else. Some food was hot and some not. After our meal we asked the desert menu which they brought over a piece of paper with deserts wrote on. Then we were left again so we gave up on that and left. I would recommend as a last resort.

Watching England win what more can I say

Ordered a burger today, was shocked that the waitress brought it to me in her hand! I get footballs on but come on that's disgusting. Could of at least put it on a paper plate. She even held it. Digging her thumb into the top bun whilst she took payment at the table. I refused to eat it and asked the chef to put it into the bin, I explained why and he just said OK. No staff with masks on. No covid rules followed. Manager swearing and shouting at staff. Just awful.

Sat here for a couple of hours while the wife took the kids for a walk. Was made to feel very welcome and so were the family once they returned

Failed to Deliver 2 Roast Beefs to a vulnrrable adult that was ordered on Wednesday for Sunday. Money was taken immediately. No answer on phone after literally 100s of phone calls and no response from their social media. I strongly advise against ordering for delivery from these cowboys

Absolutely delicious, onion bhaji starters were amazing. I had fish & chips and my partner had the Kevin Bacon burger, both were lovely. Only downside was we live really close and delivery is £3

Took our 2 children to visit a very authentic Santa and can confirm that the food cooked by the new chef is excellent quality and great value. Staff were very friendly as well. Hope to return soon

We visited the GL for lunch and had a very good burger and my wife fish cakes with fries. The food was very good and service was also good. The procedures adopted for the current situation were good.

Just been to curry night and had a very nice selection of curry with all the trimmings. The new chef is top class and the staff are great.

Food is lovely. Service is excellent. The new chef is cooking some fab food.

Posted a review in the past and the food was’nt great. But with a new chef we though we’d give them another chance. Had to wait a little for the food but it’s was worth it. Had the smoked haddock with mustard mash and my wife had the steak. I must say I was very happy with both meals. Will be definitely going back to try more.
