Nice looking hotel with well maintained grounds. Rooms were spacious, clean and nicely designed. Sadly everything we liked about the hotel was ruined by what I can put down to poor management and communication. We were not pre-warned, communicated to or given a heads-up that there was a wedding party during our stay and we could have made other arrangements. As a result, loud music all the way until midnight. The wedding crew must have been metal fans as track after track was topped off with "Down with the Sickness" blaring out at 11:45pm which I thought was quite funny. Breakfast was a little under par in terms of quality. Surprisingly there were nice little jam jars and butter on the table but we were told they did not have any toast.

Lovely hotel in a very nice setting let down by it's food. I had the chicken supreme. Very nice chicken but totally over powered by masses of onion in the salad. Others in the group had the duck breast. Again nice meat but let down by the ceasar salad... instead of delicate flavour of mashed anchovies in the dressing, they were whole fish and very little if any parmesan.

Arrived last weekend, parked and made our way to the bar, the barman asked us what we would like to drink and we gave our orders. A man came from behind us with a clipboard asking for our names, when we asked why, he asked if we were there to see ABBA, we said we weren’t and he told us that it’s a private ABBA function. I quickly told the barman to stop pouring the drinks. I said that there was no signage anywhere to indicate this but he just looked at me like I was a pain in the backside. We then left. It was very embarrassing having to walk back out past everyone else. Honestly Lanes, just put some signs out saying you are running a private function, it’s really not hard to do! The whole place has gone downhill since being sold years ago which is such a shame!

I stayed at Lanes with my girlfriend and dog. They provided a welcome pack for our dog, and the room was immaculate, nicely decorated, and comfortable. The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. The food was outstanding, and the grounds are well kept and scenic. I can’t wait to return.

We had afternoon tea which was disappointing. The cheese scones were very dry and had clearly not been baked today, the fruit scones were a little better but still on the dry side. Very small finger sandwiches (3 each) and bite sized cakes. The lemon cake and the Bakewell tart were both very nice but overall not a good experience and poor value for money. I have eaten here before, the Sunday lunches are excellent, so was expecting a nice tea. Staff, as always, were friendly but I would not recommend the afternoon tea.

Stayed there for one night on a business trip to Yeovil. Absolutely beautiful cute little hotel, friendly, upretentious staff, nice rooms, pretty traditional English common areas, and a great restaurant with decent vegan choices. The pictures don't do it justice, it feels much more upscale in person.

I got married here on 8th June, and I have to say I couldn't recommend Lanes enough! All staff were amazing! We bought all of our own decorations which Danni, the wedding co-ordinator decorated the room, and she couldn't have done a better job, it looked perfect and just as we wanted, for 'the wedding that wasnt a wedding'! We didn't have a photographer but Dyl took some incredible pictures for us, and for that we couldn't be more grateful, food was lovely, room was clean with a great view, it honestly couldn't have been better! 🥰

We went to lanes for a mothers day treat with family. The service was lovely, staff incredibly friendly and welcoming, the food was cooked perfectly and to a really professional standard. The only thing we found dissapointing was during our main corse staff decided to pack away tables and chairs, I'm not sure if this is normal (it was around half past 4) but it did make us feel a bit unwanted and unwelcome. I did think this was strange in a restaurant and establishment which prides its self on high standards. Maybe something to think about as it is off-putting even with the lovely service.

Just returned from an enjoyable Sunday lunch at Lanes. Lovely tasty food, we all enjoyed the roast beef but there were plenty of other choices on the menu. Good choice of fresh vegetables on the plate with the beef. Lovely options on the menu for deserts, we chose sticky toffee pudding, cheesecake and cheese and biscuits for our table of 4. 3 courses for £30 or 2 courses for £25. Couldn’t fault anything, great food and great service .

I was really looking forward to my first outing of the year to celebrate my daughter’s birthday, how disappointing this turned out to be, the food was terrible, I think maybe the chef had a night off, the burger was a flavorless lump of beef in a bun with limp lettuce, revolting relish and coleslaw which might have been nice last week. The chips were lovely. My sister chicken looked horrible and was a bit pink, my niece had king prawn (6) for £15, I can’t describe the desert except that it was not doing a very good job of imitating a apple tart Tatin, I sent it back in despair as it was awful. My daughter had chocolate torte which we all agreed was awful. To top the lot they tried to charge full price for children’s meals as the don’t do a children’s menu, however they had emailed my daughter the kids menu with prices of £9.50 for 2 courses Needless to say I certainly will not be going back

We arrived on a cold wet November day to be sat in the cold restaurant next to a mop and bucket and served luke warm coffee. Our starters were lovely but the mains were so disappointing, I ordered the Thai Mussels which were served with chips (should have been bread), the Thai sauce was bland and the chips were awful, cold and hard possibly the worst chips I’ve ever eaten. I felt bad for my husband as he had ordered fish and chips so again more awful chips plus some green powder that claimed to be mushy peas. Admittedly we didn’t voice our complaints, most because there was another very demanding table next to us and I can pretty much guarantee that they were going to do it for us lol.We probably wouldn’t risk eating here again.

I’ve been meaning to review Lanes for aggggges! We moved to West Coker a couple years back & Lanes very quickly became our local. The staff are just the best, especially Jordan who is just such a lovely man! We have been for many tribute evenings which have always been great fun. The food is always amazing. We held our wedding reception at Lanes in November 2018, the whole planning process went so smoothly, nothing was too much trouble. Our wedding day was the best, Shaun & Jordan especially made our day so special, however all staff were amazing. All our guests still to this day (nearly a year later) comment on how amazing the food and staff were. This is a long review but honestly I cannot praise Lanes enough. We’re now expecting twins & cannot wait to book a christening party! If you want a warm welcome, beautiful settings, amazing food and staff for any function or just quiet meal out then lanes is definitely the place to go

There were a few issues with service (staff weren't very attentive) but overall the staff were friendly and tried to please. Our main concern was that they could not advise us on what cakes may contain nuts as 'the chef had gone home'. We were surprised and shocked that this information was not readily available when food was being served irrespective of whether the chef was there or not. This resulted in one member having fruit salad as we didn't want to chance it. Not really what we had in mind especially as it was a Birthday treat. We were all left feeling disappointed - shame.

I did tell the waitress and her reply was I will take them and have a word with the chef only to come back and tell us the chef was at a meeting. We stayed for approx another 20 mins and on leaving all we got from the waitress was goodbye. Needless to say we won't be returning.

Got around tom trying this restraint and really enjoyed the food here, difficult to decide what to have from the menu but what we had was lovely good sized portions and everything was tasty.First impressions were the restraint had little ambiance and a little cold although quite modern with glass windows around two sides of the room.Food however was very delicious, good value and nice selection covering all tastes and very good portions. Impressed with the food and will return for the food although my partner has reservations on the lack of ambiance of this restaurant compared to others. But for me food quality, taste and value come tops.Service was also very good as one would expect.

I recently visited Lanes to have Afternoon Tea with a group of friends. This was booked well in advance with one of the party requesting the Gluten Free option. We were very disappointed with what we were served. The scones and sandwiches weren’t great and the gluten free option consisted of 3 finger sandwiches, a cherry bakewell (which didn’t look homemade) and a couple of slices of what looked like chocolate brownie. One of the sandwich selections did not include egg, only cucumber and salmon, which they did rectify. Not once were we offered extra tea/coffee, we had to find a member of staff to ask, even though there was hardly anyone else in the room we were in! But the worst part has to be the shocking response we received when we sent an email with our feedback. He basically accused us of lying and tried to justify himself by saying the other party in there left a large tip!Needless to say none of us will be visiting again!!

We're wondering, is Lanes under new management because the food was the worst we've had in years? Why? No rocket so they put pea sprouts on the pizza. Hertiage tomatoes? Supermarket cherry tomatoes! Short on gnocchi, throw in some whole (pickled?) onions. Goats cheese instead of mozarella. No gorganzola in the gorganzola sauce (and more pea sprouts instead of rocket). Fried aubergine that must have been days old. Asked for balsamic vinegar, got Sarsons. Butter in little foil sachets from Ireland - and we're in Somerset! It was a birthday meal that went badly wrong. Shockingly bad.

Arrived to meet a friend for lunch and was seated in the bar area to look at menus. Decided on ordering from the lunch time Prix Fixe menu. Immediately disappointed with my choice of Gravlax from a point of portion and value compared with my fellow diners twice baked soufflé. The salmon could have been fitted on a canapé and the serving of bread and butter turned out to be 2 pieces of sliced bread cut out to the size of a £2 coin and no butter on the table or provided. The soufflé I am advised was delicious. The Hake with Pereronata was okay but only okay but I have to admit the Tonka Bean Pannacotta was the chefs saving. A bit rich of a lunchtime, however, without doubt delicious. Service was adequate and no more. The atmosphere was non existent although I am sure when more diners present that might improve. Would I return? Maybe.

Visited Lanes for dinner on a Saturday night for the first time in a long time. There was only 3 other used tables in the restaurant and a function in the other room. The service from the bar and waiting staff was very good, they were all friendly and attentive and the bar and dining area had a good atmosphere and tasteful decor. However, the food completely let them down. Charging 8 pounds on average per starter, to receive sliced bread, defrosted tiny flavourless cheap prawns and rock hard inedible avocado was disappointing from a restaurant that was trying to be upmarket. Again with the main courses, both underwhelming and the fish cakes lacking in fish and drowning in a bitter spinach liquid mess. The sides that were 4 pounds each, which they recommended 2 per person, were amateur, the green salad containing rock hard avocado again and the twice cooked chips were like someone had stabbed at some potatoes and chucked them with no thought into a deep fat frier. We only ordered two sides for two of us thank goodness. We spoke to someone and commented on the avocado specifically and think some of our bill was reduced but no one said anything. Such a shame, lovely atmosphere and surroundings, attentive and friendly staff spoilt with overpriced, thoughtless and poor quality food cooked appallingly. Please Lane's, change your chef and priorities and deliver a menu that matches your environment, service and prices!

We booked Lanes restaurant for my 30th birthday meal years past has always been great food, a brilliant atmosphere and lovely setting. Where did it all go wrong??We were asked when booked to pre order for our table of 13 which was absolutely fine. We emailed a comprehensive list of what everyone wanted. We were asked to be seated and the starters came out. Some were fine but some came out incredibly salty and that's where the saga began. The accompanying bread had obviously been put on our plates some hours before eating as it was so dry and tough. The main meals came out and well I think the chef needs to find a new career. Our meals came out with the exception of one. Some one came out to say that the fish had been broken and they were making him a replacement and it would be two minutes. 15 minutes later a meal arrived that was completely different to what he had pre ordered! We sat waiting for our side dishes to arrive (it says on the menu that they recommend two to three sides to be ordered) and it became very clear that they weren't coming. My husband had to find a waitress as nobody was coming to our table to ask where they were. She replied we had not ordered any sides! At that point my husband produce the email he sent showing the order with the sides. She came over and apologised and said there had been some confusion. With an imminent 15 minute wait ahead for sides everyone started to eat their main meals. It became very clear that something dreadfully wrong had happened in the kitchen that night as every meal came out so salty it was beyond a joke. With the exception of the steak and the fish and chips all of the other meals came out almost inedible. At that point our party was so hungry we ate what we could. At no point did anyone come over to ask if our meal was ok. We had a few different waitresses and some of them really looked like they didn't want to be there. They hardly spoke to us, forgot drinks orders and were even worse jugglers. I had half a pint of larger poured in my chips and the waitress didn't even bother to ask if I wanted any replacement. The sides eventually came out after most of us had finished what we could eat and they had been asSALTed by salt as well. So inedible that they got left or past around the table to try in utter disbelief at how bad it was.Trying not to ruin my 30th birthday meal we all laughed it off and thought things couldn't get any worse!! They cleared the table in complete silence again looking like they didn't want to be there and making us feel most unwelcome. I then had several glasses on a tray dropped on me, covering my leg and sides in a mixture. I'm five months pregnant and that really added inSALT to injury not being able to drink any alcohol. At that point I thought a camera crew where going to pop out and say 'surprise' you've been caught on prank tv or something. We asked for the dessert menu to be brought over for those that hadn't pre ordered and they said yes sure. The pre ordered desserts came out but they didn't bother after a few times of asking to bring out the menu and the few that were waiting gave up!The waitresses cleared our table again in complete silence and not one asked if we would like to order Tea or coffee. We decided to make our way to the lounge room thinking they may ask in there. Nope not one person came, not even to clear our empty glasses. Another table joined about 20 minutes later shortly followed by tea and coffee. Clearly we looked like we didn't look like hot beverage drinkers or maybe they felt we had been dehydrated enough from the salt that we didn't need the extra caffeine? We individually went up to pay at different times and told the front of house about the salt in the food and at one point were told that it had been a recurring problem. I'm sorry but you mean to tell me that you knew it was a problem and you still sent it out!!!! It really beggars belief and if you're reading this you probably think it's a joke, it really isn't.Not a single member of management or the owners came in to apologise. Not one person made any reference to it being my birthday and I was made to feel really underwhelmed at the total lack of care. I wasn't expecting a red carpet but they didn't even offer me a free drink or dessert. We choose lanes because all of our friends hadn't been there and it's a special setting so thought it would be a perfect venue. If it hadn't had been for our brilliant group of friends the night would have been a complete disaster and I want to apologise to them for putting them through it. 13 very unhappy customers that will not be returning in a hurry!!

Honestly the worst place I've ever eaten, terrible food, service was pretty poor also, was absolutely appalled by my mix grill main course, just a load of poorly cooked bone dry meat slapped on my plate with a bowl of chips on the side, didn't even ask how I wanted my steak cooked, was all tough and dry. I've genuinely had better meals in Nando's, only 1 vegetarian option also which was poor, complained about the food they didn't offer to refund a meal or bring me another, when your paying £42 a head you expect a decent meal, thought the dessert would make it finish on a high but that wasn't great either, my girlfriend didn't even touch hers as it was horrible. Overall I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone it's shocking, I will not be back, waste of money

I arranged afternoon tea here for my mums birthday. I was rather underwhelmed to be seated in a dingy, very poorly decorated lounge area, I thought we had just been sat there whilst they made our table up but when they brought the stands in I realised that where we had to eat, off very low sofa with a coffee table in between us rather than on a restaurant table. The food itself was fine, we have had far better. You get a 3 finger sandwiches each and plenty of cakes, it had a very stale appearance, the bread was going hard on the edges which indicated to us it had been prepared for a little while before we had arrived, we were served with it all immediately so i guess it had been. The service was OK, we didn't get anyone check on us for a long while although i think there had been a change over of staff. It was nearly £60 for 4 of us to have the afternoon tea which i thought was quite pricey considering we didn't have a table to sit at in a restaurant, next to no service and below standard food. I did take a look at the menu whilst I was there as we dine out often and noticed that the fish and chips was priced at £16, based on the service and food standard we received, I think we wouldn't recommend this place nor go back.I must say, the staff we did see where very friendly, the bar area looked nice and the gardens were very pretty.

We had arrived in West Coker looking for a traditional pub lunch. Both pubs, although displaying open for lunch signs, were indeed closed. A chance visit to the post office pointed us to a laneway behind the main street to Lanes' brasserie. Part of Lanes' hotel, spa and bar, the brasserie is situated within a glass box that has been tastefully added to a beautiful stone rectory housing the elegant hotel. Everything about lunch was delightful - the service, the chef and of course, the food. My daughter is following a low FODMAP diet and is often frustrated by menus that are heavy with onion and garlic. After explaining this to the brasserie host, the chef appeared and ran through a number of options that she could prepare. My daughter couldn't have been more pleased at the result - a wonderful curried turkey on an equally delicious base; a dish my daughter declared was the best of the trip. Kudos to the staff at Lanes and thank you for your care.

I have been to Lanes on several occasions before and have had a great meal. Unfortunately the food side of things seemed to have slipped when there is a big party to cater for. Starter was good (liver parfait), main was turkey and it was pretty dry (no extra gravy, even though we asked) and I had cheese for desert which included pickle which wasn't great! No grapes either. If cheese is served as a ploughman lunch you have pickle, not as a desert option. On the plus side the atmosphere and entertainment (disco) it was very good.

On arrival we were warned that the hotel had ran out of steak. This was at 7.30pm on Saturday evening! Starters took 45 mins to be served. These were bland and tasteless. The main meal ordered was venison .The meal that arrived was so disappointing .Two small pieces of venison about the size of Brussels Sprouts and two small dry pieces of a venison roulade. Very dry and tasteless. This meal alone cost £23. After complaining the waiter took 25% off the bill.We had gone out to enjoy a good meal and this did not happen. Discount or reduced bills will never make up for a disappointing night!

This has always been our favourite restaurant ever since it opened, something like ten years ago, and we have dined here frequently. The focus of my last review was that, since the new management, new chef, etc., standards were slipping. After our most recent visit I am sad to report that standards have now slipped well below our expectations. The staff are still most excellent - friendly, warm, attentive and efficient - and the ambience is still probably the best for miles. Sadly, however, the menu has been getting steadily worse and worse and almost appearing to cater for passing trade and businessmen; it is now distinctly average. On our last visit it appears to have unfortunately degraded to the extent that we are now more likely to be dining elsewhere from now on. A real shame.

I took my wife here for a birthday lunch, we arrived early and were warmly welcomed and had coffee in the very comfortable reception area. We were seated in the dinning room and were choosing from the menu when an excessively loud crowd were shown to their table. unfortunately the modern design, construction and decor in the dining room had in effect produced an echo chamber, with glass walls, wooden floor and no soft furnishings to absorb any sound. In hindsight we should have left then because our very mediocre lunch was completely spoilt by the excess noise in the dinning room. We could not hold a normal conversation. The staff acknowledged that the crowd were noisy but did not bother to ask them to speak in moderate volume, perhaps they were regular big spenders who knows. Sadly we will not be visiting again nor shall we considering Lanes for an annual dinner for 60 or so guests for which we were seeking a new venue.

We recently had afternoon tea at Lanes there was a large number of us amongst the party. I was extremely disappointed in the service. Having paid £15 for afternoon tea our drinks orders were taken, after about 15 mins I noticed that some tea and coffee had been bought out but not to our end of the table I had to ask the waitress for more. When the tiers containing our food arrived I was extremely disappointed the sandwiches and cakes were placed down and were to be shared between 4 the sandwiches were ok although slightly lacking in filling and we were treated to 3 small finger sandwiches each there was a small selection of cakes not enough for 2 each and literally bite size followed by scones which were probably the best part again not enough to evenly share out between 4. So in summary, I felt that the value for money was extremely poor l.

We like to go to Lanes when we have no other responsibilities (Kids) it is a great place for an excellent high quality meal.We both this time chose the same things on the menu, to start, the Ham Hock, with poached egg on an english muffin and a very tasty hollandaise sauce. That was followed by whole place with brown butter and whole prawns served with samphire. The only disappointment if only slightly was the triple cooked chip we added as a side, which where mainly crispy bits with a few real chips that where soft.Very rare that we have any complaint, normally a 5 start rating, this time just 4 (would have been 4.5 but could not make that option), but we will be back again, staff always excellent and very helpful.

Went here with my friend, we had been given a voucher for a cream tea as we were both celebrating a special birthday. We sat outside on the terrace, it was a relaxing atmosphere and overlooked a lovely garden, the cream tea was delicious but we could have done with a bit more clotted cream, perhaps we are just greedy, a really good cup of tea and plenty of it. The staff were very attentive and polite, overall a really lovely afternoon.

I went for afternoon tea with my friend and her mum. We were sat in the glass room which was nice. I thought £14.50 was a bit pricy for what we got, in hindsight we should of asked about the fillings for the sandwiches as one of us doesn't like cream cheese and mayonnaise and another doesn't like salmon. The macaroons were to die for as was the chocolate brownies but the scones were not nice at all. We were shown to our table and the afternoon tea came out and that was the last we saw of the staff. We had to ask for water for the table as no one came over to see if we were alright, which we thought was odd. I don't know if I would return

We had been given a lovely gift, afternoon tea for two, real treat time!Eventually we decided to go to Lanes Hotel and indulge in our gift.First impressions, lovely old building tucked away behind very modern extensions, large car park with little flower beds. Clean and tidy.Second impression when we walked into the reception/bar/comfortable chairs/more working area....... Yes, you get the idea, its almost as no one has decided on what should be on display first.Third impression, nice member of staff took us to our table in a LARGE ultra modern dining room with one other table occupied. A goldfish would have felt very at home. We didn't, not an ounce of cosiness or ambiance in the place. No view to look out onto, bar the car park, although they are growing a beech hedge it has a long way to go. Maybe our expectations were too high... but it would have made more sense to have made more of the cosy chairs nearer the front entrance and into the lovely old bay window (remove your office) and let the clients sit back and enjoy the lovely cakes on offer in a comfortable, cosy place.Fourth impression, sandwiches done nicely, nice choice of cakes, scones came with proper cream (plenty of cream and Jam) and Jam.Fifth impression, young lady who should have been looking after the dining room, didn't. We ran out of tea and my partner had to go and find someone to get more tea. It arrived but I had to ask her to remove the other two teapots on the table. I am sorry but it is not a huge thing but one that annoyed meOverall, nice place but defintely not for sitting in for afternoon tea. Shame as I had looked forward to my spoiling.

Under new management - lunch with girlfriend. Attentive staff, dining room, bar etc all very nice, but frankly my lunch was bad. The sea bass was very over salted and I asked our charming waiter to mention it to the chef. As a result my pudding was free - a nice gesture which I didnt expect. My friends burger and chips she loved and ate every scrap. Its a lovely setting and just the place for a good girl's gossip, if there are teething problems in the kitchen I am sure they will sort it out.

The hotel and reception/restaurant areas are delightful looking and so I was expecting good things from an afternoon tea that 2 friends and I had booked. In total we were there for about 2.5 hours. Although we told the staff on arrival that we were still awaiting a 3rd person, we never saw anyone again and eventually went to find a member of staff after about 30 mins to ask for some service. Afternoon tea was then delivered to us delivered promptly however we then sat for at least an hour after finishing our food with all the dirty crockery on the table and no one attentive enough not only to not bother to clear the table but not even to ask if we wanted anything else.! This Hotel is lovely but they need to do some serious staff training.

I have always admired the Lanes' approach to business. Really great venue, On site restaurant, hotel and apartments all in a great setting in one of the best Hamstone villages of South Somerset. With the new management we have seen marked improvements. The restaurant is always busy, as is the bar. The snooker room is somewhere quiet to withdraw for a chat. Marco has recently been heading up the front of house and makes a real effort to remember one. We have recently been for lunch twice and evening meal once. Great service, good food, good value.Lanes is a worth a visit.

As we live locally, we have been fairly regular customers at Lanes over the course of the last 10 years, and have generally been very happy with both food and service, I still cannot fault the service, but having had lunch there yesterday we will almost certainly not be going again due to a big price increase since we were there a few weeks ago, In addition to that, when asked for mayonnaise we were served something that looked more like mustard and not particularly nice. With 3 or 4 other eating places very close that serve food that is equally good but at a more realistic price I feel that sadly this was our last meal at Lanes.

There were 74 of us who had prebooked from a menu of three choices for each course. Unfortunately it was raining when we arrived so we unable to go out on the patio and saviour the delightful gardens. There were good views from the lounge of the grounds. The restaurant was attractively set out with plenty of room between the tables for the staff to circulate while clearing and serving at tables. The food was excellent and the house wine was very good. I have just found an English restaurant that does perfect black coffee! The food was hot, well cooked and we were not kept waiting between courses. The service was very efficient and unobtrusive. Everybody seemed to enjoy the occasion and many said it was the best annual lunch they'd had.Well done to all the staff for making it such an enjoyable day.The only down side was that with so many people there talking it was quite noisy as there are no soft furnishings to absorb the sound.I would just like to add that when the two of us went to do a recce of the place prior to booking, we were also impressed by our meal.

We were really impressed with the determination of the manager to see that we were comfortable and satisfied. Real shame - always used to go to Lanes for the occasional evening meal and business lunches, but visited in April 2015 for a business lunch. There was a 40 minute wait for lunch when the restaurant was empty, waitress brought out the butter but forgot the bread rolls and the serving of the main meal was the smallest portion I have ever received, literally half a red pepper with 2 small cubes of haloumi for £9.95. I have heard Lanes is under new management, our evening meal in December the service was brilliant and food delicious and reasonably priced, hopefully Lanes will revert to its old service and menu soon.

We were in Somerton for the weekend and purely by chance ended up at The White Hart for dinner. We hadn't booked, but Rob very kindly managed to find a way to rearrange the bookings to provide a table for the two of us - and we were so glad that he did. The wine was good quality, we ordered two main meals from the regular menu - flat iron steak and cider battered haddock. The staff were polite and friendly. We saw workers throughout the evening very clearly dealing with a very busy restaurant - but everyone we saw was working with pace and purpose, focused on service delivery and working well together. Everyone worked quickly but with a calm energy. Even when relaying tables this was with attention to detail and clear care about customer experience - we saw tables being balanced so as not to wobble for the diners, candles and glasses laid out to be aesthetically pleasing, table legs get wiped to be clean for the next diner - just small things that were done as second nature that show the approach to standards. Both dishes came out in good time - especially considering that the restaurant was (from what we could see) completely full. The food was cooked beautifully; the steak was delicious, seasoned well and cooked to a perfect medium rare. The batter on the haddock was lovely and crisp, but achieved without overcooking the fish, which was still perfectly tender. Both plates were appealing and presentation well thought out. Attention to detail was a theme that carried through into the food where garnish was built into the dish properly rather than an after thought - For example the lemon served with the fish could have been served simply cut and been perfectly acceptable, but effort was taken to lightly grill the lemon for deeper flavour and more appealing appearance. We couldn't have managed a dessert, but the options were very enticing. We ended our evening finishing our glasses of wine in front of the fireplace before leaving. We already plan to return, despite the 3.5 hour journey from home.
