Had a family meal for 9, the food was hot and delicious, and exactly as ordered. An excellent choice of beers and service with a smile. They couldn't have done more for us, and at a very reasonable price.

Beer lovers destination, just look at the list of real ales straight from the barrel. Just stopped for a pint whilst out cycling, will be back for food and more beer 🍻

It taking me a long time to get to this famous real ale pub sadly it was only a short visit I was very impressed with beer celection and the atmosphere of the bar, we will be back soon with friends and will try the food menu

What a great pub. An impressive range of well kept beers. We were part of a large group having lunch. Set menu has great variety and there were a lot of other options on the Specials board. Gluten free is well catered for 👍 The food came out close together and everything looked great and I didn't hear any complaints. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Well done, hope to be back soon 👏

Driven past many, many times and the Car Park is always chocca. The Ploughman's Lunch had been recommended so we decided we should "give it a go" First recommendation - BOOK A TABLE. We were lucky and got the last one. Very surprised at the Specials menu. Some great sounding food on there, but stuck with the reason for being there and we're not disappointed. Some excellent real ales from guest breweries to be had as well. Looks like I could well be a designated driver for a few sessions! Ploughman's was excellent. Very much enjoyed the Chutney. Great place a real gem on our doorstep.

Lovely old world pub, warm, comfortable and welcoming. Service was quick, four of us ate, I ordered double Berger bacon and cheese with chips, unfortunately the two Berger's were over cooked and hard. I should have sent it back but didn't. Chips were wonderful. Would return again.

Used to be an amazing pub, not so much anymore. Only food worth eating is the fish and chips. Had a roast here and it was absolutely dire. The veg was tasteless, cold and swimming in water like it had been microwaved and not drained, awful. That was the last time I ate there as it totally put me off.

Went for a drink and found a good selection of 8 real ales on tap. A classic country pub. We didn't eat there but the menu chalked up on the boards looked good, reasonably priced and many of the other customers were enjoying the food. I would be happy to return.

Had a bite to eat whilst staying in Pitney for a few days in August. Simple but good quality and reasonably priced food backed up by an excellent choice of ales. The bar staff were friendly and helpful and the decor is traditional and rustic. Highly recommended.

What a lovely hidden gem to just relax a few little things tables out back could do with an update poor condition. Food is unable to have as stopped at 2 but not a big deal as all country pubs are the same

Lovely friendly bustling country pub, we visited twice whilst we were staying locally and it really has a great atmosphere and selection of beers/ ciders! We sadly missed out on the food but it looked great! Would recommend to all a fab place to relax and enjoy a couple of cheeky weekend beverages - we will be back and with the kids for sure they won't want to miss out on this little gem next time!!!

Went on Sunday for lunch. Not much choice for vegetarians but the tart was really good. Sunday pork roast looked great, everyone that had it said it tasted great too. Fantastic chips!

A fantastic Gem of a public house. Great beers, ales and Ciders as well as a great pub menu. A stone floored, benched seated traditional pub. Dogs welcome. And also do take out beers.

What a great find. Friendly service and delicious home made food. Beef chilli nachos were highly rated by my son and I had goats cheese, pepper and spinach tart which was very tasty. Also Harry’s cider from just down the road!

Wow what a fine. Feels like a very local friendly pub. Would recommend booking, as when I was in the area visiting we only managed to get a table twice. Warm welcome. Cosy log burning country pub. Good selection of ales. Good varied menu. The food was delicious and not pricey. The best thing was it wasn't a chain run pub lacking atmosphere. This pub was oozing atmosphere! Wouldn't be to everyones taste of a pub, but if you're in the area it's a must visit in my opinion.

A nice pub for a drink and a packet of crisps, apparently the food is good but there is no separate restaurant, so it's not for me, you eat with drinkers stood all around and its a busy place, even on a Wednesday evening.

Beer good. Fish and chips lovely. Faggots not good. Fish cakes dreadful. Staff friendly and nice. May not eat there again .quality of food has declined. .

A party of 16 called 21 Jan after booking and paying a deposit,we explained we were 6 minutes late because the roads were shut over the Somerset levels and had to go around. The barman just told us the kitchen was shut, although two reser ved tables were vacant the people.turned up at 2 30 and were served we have been before but will not be going again not the pub portrad on TV

Olde worlde charm, fantastic selection of beers and great food! What's not to like.

I've just seen my previous review of this pub, and somehow the review listed was what I had written about somewhere else. I apologise profusely for this, as it was unintended and undeserved (apologies to the staff and owners)! I've eaten here several times recently, and the food is good, the staff are great and the prices very reasonable in the current climate. Do go and try it.

We met up with family in the evening and although it was very busy the food was great as was the atmosphere.

Proper local pub. Great selection of beer and has won awards from Camara. Got chatting to some locals and people who had travelled much further. Highly recommended.

One of the most welcoming pubs I have visited. A pub that I am sure relies on its outside space, but being the middle of winter and the limited space inside, it was very, very busy, to add to the pain, we had a dog but they did their utmost to cater to us all. Some great food, a great selection of Ales, and many friendly faces

Great atmosphere, best selection of real ales and farmhouse ciders around.

We visited on Saturday evening as a party of 9, we've been to the Halfway houses on a number of occasions and have always found it to be a fantastic venue with excellent food. I am given to understand that the venue might be under new management, if it is, then it's great to see that the food is just as awesome as before. My wife had the steak and mushroom pie, it had a thin shortcrust pastry top and was filled with large chunks of steak and the gravy (which she let me dunk a chip into) took me back to my school days, it was delicious. I only had a bowl of chips and a bowl of beans as I had eaten earlier, otherwise, I would have had the scampi as you might expect if you follow these reviews. I would have posted pictures but frankly, the food was gone too soon. In terms of facilities, there is a couple of steep steps down to the main entrance but I believe there is step-free access to the side, there is also a disabled parking space right outside, next to the large casks. The toilets might be disabled-friendly if you are in a wheelchair, I won't lie it's going to be a tad snug, especially if there is someone standing at the facilities, engaged in the removal of bodily fluids... We will obviously be going back, the Halfway house is ideally suited to meeting with family as it is halfway between our houses, plus the quality of food is just mwah...(insert chef-kiss emoji).

Great food good service friendly atmosphere Update. After the first visit we thought we would go again. What a disaster what used to be really nice fresh home cooked food is now frozen Iceland fishcakes. They served locals before ourselves even when we had been waiting before they came in. The final straw was when they tried to over charge us at the end. Never again.

Cracking little pub, a real pub. Friendly staff, good menu, brilliant selections of real ale and proper farmhouse ciders. Good sized beer garden. 100% recommended. Now owned by previous tenants. As always, great service, can't recommend enough. Menu updated and not just normal pub grub but a good selection.

Phoned on Friday for lunch today (Sunday) was told we couldn't book but they kept 2 tables for first come first served and if we arrived by 11.45 we should be ok. We arrived at 11.35 and was told we could have table. The lady in charge then asked how many and we said 2 so she told us a larger party was arriving and they would have the table. She was very off-hand to the point of being rude.Not the way you treat customers - needless to say we will not be recommending .
