Great atmosphere and staff. Food to a good standard ,as always. Can be very busy so best to book in advance. We will be back.

Lovely pub for lunch and dinner. Staff are always polite and attentive. Andreea always there with a warm welcome. They cater to your needs. Would highly recommend this pub.

We have visited after retiring day and ordered pizzas. We sat in the garden and it was lovely. The pizza came out fast and were very tasty as were the desserts. Totally no complaints, we have been here a few times early evening and it is always very nice with attentive staff.

Went at 6.30pm on a Friday, asked for a table in a quiet spot. We were put in the doorway by the pizza oven to the garden (should have asked to sit elsewhere). Kids everywhere, parents not bothering to stop them running backwards and forwards between our table and the table against the wall about a foot from us. Honestly, love kids but it is not a good place for a nice romantic meal. We were planning on a leisurely meal, drinks etc - we were out in under an hour. Not relaxing.

We come for a quick meal with the kids . My beef burger was juicy . Kids were happy with the pizza. Delicious expresso martini! Mirela was efficient and very friendly . Tasty ice cream. Will come back.

Lovely staff , very kind and thoughtful. General atmosphere good. Good service Great food all presented well and cooked perfectly.

We dive into this fantastic pub every few months as it is not close..but it’s always worth the trek. Steak, Lobster, Chicken Kebab all brilliant. They do really good cocktails too.

Fantastic food and service in a great location. Well appointed pub offering an extensive menu which did not disappoint. It’s clearly popular with the locals so I would recommend booking. The lamb burger was great and the chunky chips were fantastic, as was the sticky toffee for dessert!

An excellent pub. We received superb service despite being a challenging group (5x kids/babies). The staff were as good as I have ever experienced and the food matched their quality - visible wood fired pizza oven a nice touch

My family have just had a lovely meal at The Great House, from the minute we arrived with a bunch of tired but still lively children the staff were attentive and helpful. The menu was very varied and catered for all including the vegans in our party, and when the food came it was very tasty. I am hoping we can head back soon as it really was such a good dining experience.

My wife took me to the Great House for a birthday treat we were met by the general manager who took us to our table overlooking the garden, he was very engaging and we spent a thoroughly enjoyable evening being looked after by the most attentive staff, good food and great service.

Mother's Day celebration, midweek as it was easier to enjoy it. A busy pub with good staff who were attentive. We enjoyed the fish - trout, and bass; lamb shank and chicken pie. Watch for GF which means GF Friendly (why not GFF?) so you may need to change ingredients e.g. not have the bulgur wheat but potatoes instead for the same price.The sweets were, needless to say, delicious and coffee tasty.

Decided to visit The Great House for supper. Really warm welcome, lovely ambience throughout the restaurant and bar. Knowledgeable staff.Menu, innovative and interesting with some usual pub staples.Food beautifully cooked and presented, good generous portions.Really enjoyable evening. Prefer this lovely pub/restaurant to our local off the Moor - which we can walk to but after our recent meal at The Great House would prefer to hop in the car for the short drive anytime.

This is one of our favourite places to eat. The family booked a table for 8 of us. All the staff greeted us when we went inside. The restaurant is light and welcoming and makes you feel at home. The ambiance is just perfect and the service excellent. Food is wonderful. Have been before end never been disappointed. We love it. We’ve been before, this time on a sunny day after a lovely local walk. Service was great as always and food brilliant and interesting. Not your standard pub, much better.

Been coming here for years and always loved the ambiance and service. Today was different class and it feels like they have gone from good to elite on the food. We had a mixture of dishes (the flatbread in the pizza oven was just wow) and everything was perfect. Staff were predictably wonderful too and Andra in particular was brilliant. This is becoming a regular venue for us, from a Sunday Roast to a mid week dinner, the food is always excellent we were served by Andra last night and she was excellent. Thank you, and see you all again soon.

Went to the Greathouse for lunch and I have to admit it was amazing, staff were really friendly and attentive rib eye steak was perfectly cooked just how I like it. Special thanks to Andrea, out waitress done a brilliant job. Definitely will be back.

I booked the Great House on recommendation of a local. My wife and I were staying in a nearby village for our wedding anniversary. The food was amazing. We both had starters and mains but no dessert as we were full by then. I had the crab and fish cakes to start with followed by the chicken kebabs, whilst my wife had goats cheese for starter and the duck for main.

Another lovely meal at the Great House. We have been several times and are always delighted with the food, service and atmosphere. The staff are so kind and helpful and always make us feel so welcome. Well named - it is a Great House!

On a miserable, wet Saturday, we were so lucky to come across this beautiful pub. Comforting, cosy and lovely decor. We were greeted by a smiling waitress who let us choose where we would like to sit. We chose to sit at the back of the restaurant and overlooking the garden.The menu is delightfully extensive and there is something for everyone. We chose the baked Camembert and the belly pork scotch egg. The scotch egg was amazing, imagine our surprise when cutting into it to have a perfect poached egg ooze out.For the mains we had the steak and ale pie and the king prawn linguine. Both dishes were superb. It’s the attention to detail that we found particularly pleasing in all the dishes.Our waitress Andrea was exceptionally polite, warm and welcoming and took great care of us.I would highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion. We will return

Sunday lunch was tasty but we had Roast Lamb. The meat was a bit chewy although tender. Very large meal with extra large Yorkshire. Sweets ( crème brulee and apple and pear crumble) are delicious. Very tasty lattes finished the meal Quite pricey but it is Hawkhurst.

Eat here today great food and a wide choice ,delicious pizzas food excellent god choice of wine and beers. Very friendly staff who will go beyond . Good for children and can take your dog Perfect

Our fourth visit, I think, and definitely a great choice for Valentines Day lunch. We don't usually celebrate, but it's so rare to get out these days that we decided to pull out all the stops. We are both watching our weight so didn't go crazy, but the wide-ranging menu made it easy for us - he had soup, I had lobster, both really nice. And our Hungarian waiter was charming - we arrived in a bit of a state after a difficult journey, and he gave us space to calm down and relax, even though we were late. And it was VERY dog friendly.

It was my first time visiting The Great House, and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. I had the prawn linguine which was so good! My friend and I received excellent service from our waitress, she was so polite and attentive, even when she was unsure on an answer she sourced help straight away…extremely grateful for her outstanding service! Will definitely be coming back soon! Thank you.

Never been to this charming ship lap country pub before and noted good car parking outside. On entering the smell of the log fire and warm welcome by the staff added to the busy happy atmosphere. Our waitress Kayleigh was brilliant. Very friendly and offered enthusiastic recommendations when requested whether food or drink. Very sincere and she seemed to really love her job. Service was great. We shared halloumi chips to start. I had the chicken kebab main which was gorgeous and actually quite wowing when presented so much so other folk on the next table were asking what it was! My husband had the fillet steak which obviously for a half price meal night was great value. For pudding the chocolate mousse was yummy. Must try their pizzas on another occasion as they have a pizza oven there and I was told by a neighbour how good they were, think and crispy. They do a collection deal for pizza 2 for 1 between 3-6pm. In fact they do cocktail deals too on early times - check their website. Anyway I couldn't fault our food or drink nor the service. While we waited for our taxi I had a great chat with a man about the place and he turned out to be the manager for the evening. Another friendly chat was with the barman and he was covering from another of their pubs. sWe will be back - soon!

The third ‘Elite Pub’ that we we’ve recently visited. It was an enjoyable visit for lunch. A bit disappointing that the menu is a bit ‘bog standard’ to their other houses but none the less its a nice menu and the choice and food quality is good enough; it would be nice if each house was allowed to have a few individual or special dishes to differentiate them from the rest of the group. The service was ok and we were well looked after through the meal. The pub is well kitted out and created a good quality impression of a country Sussex pub.

Visited yesterday after a traumatic day at Benenden hospital. Jess very understanding as we were late and William our waiter was wonderful and looked after us as if we we were VIPs - William you are an asset to the pub. The manager was very attentive and as for the food… amazing - scallops divine, food all cooked as desired. Please do visit, would recommend to everyone. Thank you, will visit again

We enjoyed a lovely friends lunch here on a cold winters day. The food was truly delicious and warming in a lovely setting with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. We were well looked after by the very cheerful and polite William, who definitely added to a very happy and enjoyable lunching experience.

Not been here before but absolutely loved it and would definitely visit again!Food superb, as expected because we are Elite pub fans, but the atmosphere and team looking after us was also superb! Such a pretty pub, clean and sparkling and comfortable couldn’t ask for more. Steve our main waiter was just brilliant! Couldn’t have done more and we were a large group and probably annoying Steve and all the other team members who served us, were all so friendly and helpful. We visited Christmas at Bedgebury and my son found this pub online. Absolutely superb food served in a relaxing atmosphere. We felt Covid safe as all staff were wearing masks. We had our 2 grandchildren with us and it was so refreshing to see a healthy children's menu with a lot of choice.

My wife and I celebrated our 21st wedding anniversary by going for dinner at the Great House. The food was fantastic and the staff very friendly and attentive with a special shout out to Steven and Andreea. Thanks so much guys

Great food and great service from William and Norbert. Only pointer is that there was no baby Guinness option on the waiter’s tablet. A very satisfactory evening overall.

Been here several times over the years but not for a while. It really is a lovely venue. Service was excellent (special mention to William). My pigeon starter was delicious and my partner’s goat’s cheese one equally so (so she says…..i was not allowed a bite!). My main of wild duck was perfect with a lovely smokey flavour. My partner went for the roast turkey, which looked delicious, but she said was a little disappointing.All in all a lovely meal and we shall be back to sample more from the menu!

Such a great family visit for my birthday celebration tonight! The place is warm & inviting, the staff are a delight. The menu is fab and offers a great choice for all, even the fussiest of diners. Children are welcomed. We had the loveliest meal ranging from pizza to roast to scallops. Tasty sharing starters and the desserts are great! Always a pleasure, and our server William was fabulous. Had a lovely lunch at the great house today, friendly service from Brooke at the bar for a pre-meal drink, professional service from Andrea at the table. Beautifully cooked duck and ribeye! Baked Camembert is an all time favourite as well! I am a great fan of elite pubs and none of their sites ever fail to deliver! Thank you!

What an outstanding dinner we had at the Great House in Hawkhurst - everything was just perfect and gorgeous. Service was outstanding and we were looked after so attentively by three members of staff (Anita ++). Thank you very excited to visit again.

Lunch for two at the Great House. Nice welcome. Taken to to table and immediately offered drinks and water. Indoor seating was busy but not cramped. Rye Bay Cod and Pepperoni Pizza ordered - both excellent. Food arrived quickly. Service great.

Having stayed at Sissinghurst Castle B&B this restaurant came recommended. Friendly service, lovely food including the most dramatic and tasty chicken skewer ever, and delicious pasta served in a pumpkin (we ate there on Halloween night).

Ate here on a Monday night expecting it to be relatively quiet, but found on arrival it was extremely popular with groups including some young children. The restaurant atmosphere was lively and quite noisy in a good way, so we asked to move into the bar area as we were only a two, which was no problem and we didn't feel out on a limb. Food was very good, pizzas excellent. Service was very good, friendly and attentive without being over the top. We were staying at the Sissinghusrt Castle Farmhouse a few miles away, so a good location.

Lovely place for a relaxed meal with a very varied menu and attentive staff. Prices are also reasonable and food is of high quality. Found it difficult to park however and the car park may need rejigging.

The Great House is our favourite local Elite pub. Always a fantastic atmosphere and the service is always spot on. We took our daughter on a Wednesday evening following a special occasion. Andrea was our waitress and provided perfect service. Friendly, attentive but not smothering and cheerful. The steak that two of us had was absolute perfection. . . And the puddings were a work of art. Would ALWAYS recommend The Great House...always a Hit and never a miss!

A lovely pub for Sunday lunch, had a cosy corner table , good food, and very attentive service from Andreea.

Lovely manager and staff as was in August when I wrote a highly positive review. This time was evening. I had been unwell so brought a ginger teabag with me, and they provided a teapot with hot water while my husband had a pint of Harveys. Our guests arrived and three had just bread oil and balsamic as a starter. They had fillet steaks which were all excellent. My starter was a woodfired flatbread with caremelised onions and mozzarella. The onion was horrible. Nor what I would call caremalised from scratch. Horrible. And my Rye seabass was dry and overcooked on a bed of what was a slimy not very nice tasting risotto -not freshly made. The nice touched we had before with rasberry coulis on a large glass plate with the ice creams was not on offer. Those extra touches of presentation make all the difference and they were missing. The bill with soft drinks, 2 beers and two very nice sticky toffee puddings came to £156 plus service for 4 people. Wonderful serving staff seemed exhausted however. Maybe staff shortages? They managed very well. Despite the less good experience this time we have booked for a celebrattory birthdy-cum-Christmas on Christmas Eve.

We visited The Great House on Friday night with friends and had a lovely evening. It is definitely our most favourite place to eat out - food options and quality excellent, service second to none - Andra has served us several times now and is absolutely superb. Decor and general atmosphere is lovely - we love it and would highly recommend.

Very nice decor / feel. The two blond waitresses that served us were very nice. I had the best pint of Bitter shandy (Harvey’s) that I’ve had in a long time. The vegan power bowl was delicious and nutritious. My parents had The Sea seafood pizza and loved it.

Celebrated a family birthday here. Food and service excellent. Everyone had a roast dinner and even had nut roast for vegetarians. Plenty of choice on the menu. We sat in the barn area and was decorated nicely with log burners. Our server Andrea was superb - thank you!

Such a gem of a pub. The food was absolutely delicious. The Sea Bass was beautifully presented and tasted fantastic. Our waitress Andra was really attentive and helpful. After dinner we moved into the bar area. A lovely atmosphere. Would thoroughly recommend The Great House.

I went with my partner for a meal and couldn’t of asked for more , I can’t remember the waitress’s name but she had short hair and glasses and was incredibly helpful + friendly! Food was perfect I had the lamb shank , my partner had the boar burger and we both had the scotch egg for starters, also had the blueberry creme brûlée for desert. All food came out very quickly and they also had a good range of cocktails, was a great night out.

Booked for 4 people but a friend joined us- no problem, they immediately found us a nice table for 5 in the bar area. Food was very good - I had fish cake followed by wild boar burger with sweet potato fries - both courses were delicious.Service was excellent and very professional from the delightful Andrea.We will be back :)

Really loved this - a group of us had roasts & pies and burgers - something for everyone. Loads of vegan options, really interesting menu and Andra looked after us all so well. Only wish we lived closer - totally recommend :-)

Very nice Cousy pub with lovely staff! I just popped by with a friend for a quick lunch and drinks on Sunday and everything was absolutely delicious! Had the pork burger which was delicious followed by the best sticky toffee pudding I’ve ever had. Andrea also looked after us very well. Will definitely be coming back.

Been last night and I fel as I was a king. Particularly Andra has a knack for customer service, funny and on point it was like she was reading my mind. I am not local but one of the best experience in the las 5 years. Overall 5 stars, staf get 10 stars frome me.

Visited on 9th October.Hubby had duck i had the fishcakes as a main, great food great service Andreea couldn't have been anymore attentive.We visited in August aswell i had duck hubby had fillet steak, all meals we've had here have been superb and tasty, i thinks its our go to place for a just us meal. Always a cpl of changes on the menu to go with the season. If you've not tried here then you really should.

Visited for hubby's birthday and as we had already had a large lunch earlier in the day went for some of the sharing food and starters. Such great value and everything was tasty and well presented. I had the goats cheese salad which was delightful and hubby had the beef Asian salad just as good. The service was exceptional and our waitress Andrea (hope that correct) was so helpful, friendly and accommodating and made it a delightful, experience. If we lived closer we would definitely make it a regular place to eat.

We ate here in early September during a trip to the area. The staff were friendly and attentive. We sat in the covered outdoor area. I had the trout fillet which was superb and my partner had the fish and chips which he also enjoyed. Despite not wanting a dessert, I couldn’t help but try his apple and strawberry crumble, which was lovely. Nice atmosphere, and the manager was very helpful regarding use of the EV charger in the car park.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food is well presented and delicious. There is a good choice on the menu and also a good choice of drinks. However, my wife is Gluten Free and though there are GF meals marked on the menu in the "Mains", there is only a 'Power bowl' (quinoa, tofu, etc) and in the "Puddings", the GF choice is between sorbet or ice cream.

Another pub in the Elite pub group. Same menu and variety. All individual identity pubs , this one has smaller but pleasant garden area. The bright and covered outdoor seating area. Good attentive staff and good value meals. Adheres to covid secure regime.

Looking for a first class pub/restaurant to start off the weekend, and what better choice than The Great House. As a family we wanted to try something new, and as soon as we walked in we were made to feel welcomed, you could also immediately feel the great atmosphere in here. We were taken into the private dining area for our meal which really is wonderfully laid out and comfortable. Food was excellent, service was excellent and all-in-all a superb experience. Special thanks to the manager Cornel who was the perfect host, a true gentleman. Thank you all for a wonderful evening, and hope to be back soon.

Scallop starter overcooked, fish for main course was dry and mushy peas missing, sticky toffee pudding tasted burnt! asked for water for table 3 times… waitress very abrupt and unattentive ,did not once ask if we enjoyed any of the three courses when she cleared the plates, the pub did not appear to be busy so that is no excuse. I have marked not value for money as food was not enjoyed. Would definitely not recommend other than to steer clear

Visited on bank holiday for a great lunch. Lovely menu with lots of GF options available. Food was really good, beautifully cooked and presented. Staff were attentive and helpful, quickly coming to our aid when my daughter knocked over her drink on my husband!

We had set out for a gentle drive through the countryside and chanced upon this wonderful pub & restaurant by pure luck. We were welcomed in by Cornel and even though we hadn’t booked, he sat us at a table in the bar area. We both chose the lamb roast dinner which was served with an enormous Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and seasonal veg. The best roast dinner I’ve ever had (outside of my home cooking). Portions are substantial so bring your appetites. All I wanted for afters was a Jamaican coffee.Perfect ❤️

We had a midweek dinner with friends. Elite pubs now seem to own 10 or so pubs in the south east so the first disappointment was that the menu was identical to the Potting Shed where we’d been recently. We skipped starters and went straight for mains. You can tell the food is bulk bought and it feels like cooking by numbers for looks not taste. The lamb koftas came with a flat bread formed into a basket shape which meant it was dry around the edges and wet through under the tsatsiki. The chips were greasy and overly salted before they reached the table. Sticky toffee pudding was a very large portion and pretty bland. We had to chase coffees after 15-20 minutes as the staff member had disappeared for a fag break and had clearly forgotten about bringing them. They were brought to the table with no apology but a ‘here you are, they’ve just been made’ - but they were lukewarm so had clearly just been sitting on the side. Felt like everything was done for the restaurant convenience not for our enjoyment. We were never asked if we wanted a second drink so made do with a jug of tap water while we ate our dinner. The napkins are supposedly tiny and single ply to help the environment- but as one just covers one of your thighs there’s not much point to them as you end up using lots of them over the course of a meal. All a bit odd!

As stated by my 12 year old daughter, this place has the BEST sweet potato chips EVER.. the rest of our food was fantastic too.. we had a couple of pizzas and they were fab too

The Great House has an extensive menu, including a number of veggie and gluten free options. The food was absolutely delicious and we all really enjoyed our meal. Great steaks and amazing chicken kebabs, beautifully presented. The pizzas are really excellent. There’s a good wine list and service is very friendly and efficient. We will definitely visit again.

We were recommended this pub by someone we met during a weekend break nearby (we had a disappointing meal elsewhere on the first night and so were looking for a better alternative for our second night).Upon walking into the Great House we got a very warm welcome and were offered a couple of different tables to suit us. The menu was extensive, and had numerous vegan options for my partner. Mirela was amazing and knew the menu very well and made us feel very welcome. The food was exceptional (I had the 10oz steak and half a lobster - all perfectly cooked and delicious) and the service was top notch - could not fault it.My only slight issue was there were quite a few flies in the restaurant (not a big issue, but thought I’d flag to management!)Would highly recommend

My wife, daughter and I visited The Great House on Thursday 12th August for lunch. Our booking was for 1pm, we actually arrived 30 minutes early, and this was no problem as we were warmly welcomed and shown to our table. We dealt with three different people during lunch and all three were polite, efficient and professional. Andra, who served us at our table was fantastic, nothing was too much trouble! We shared a Halloumi Fries starter, really nice. I had fish and chips, excellent, especially the tartar sauce and mushy peas. My wife had the chicken kebab, I just recommend you have have this, you will be impressed! My daughter had a pizza, again really well made, she’s 12 and ate all of it and it’s large! We then had coffee, the vegan chocolate mousse and the local strawberry Elton Mess. Both pudding were excellent. My Elton Mess was the best I’ve ever had, and it’s one of my favourites so I’ve had quite a few. This one was just special. To conclude, great food, great service, great lunch! Highly recommended.

Fantastically broad ranging and and delicious looking menu. We ate inside because of weather but outside options were available in good weather. My first time there. There were four adults Sunday lunch. Arrived early. Menu looked great.Sparkling interesting 'Ottolenghi- type salads with pomegranite, lovely shellfish and fish available). Huge range actually. We were traditional in our selections. Home baked bread ordered as a starter ( with butter or with olive oil and balsamic vinegar? Could smell the yeast. We did not have other starters although they looked great. Burger and fillet steak and chips for the others were delicious, and I had roast lamb. Personally I feel there is no excuse for lamb being tough although I was warned if I wanted it well done it might be. The rare would be just as chewy frankly. It's about quality of the joint and the marinade. Best way to cook leg of lamb -if you are not doing slow cooked lamb for hours and hours on a breast or shoulder-, is to marinade the leg in a little rosemary , dijon mustard and honey , overnight, then cook it on high for 30 minutes, and 25 minutes per 1b thereafter on a 180 degree heat. Carve the fat end of the leg for rare options, after 1 hour and cover. Let the rest of the leg cook on for well-done options. I was truly impressed that the chef came to apologise about toughness. The whole service was very good. The roast potatoes and divine vegetables & 'jus' along with the yorkshire pudding made up for it. My husband had a delicious sticky toffee pudding and my mango sorbet and vanilla ice creams with rasberry coulis were the best I have had. Three beers, two shandys, one elderflower and one coke and the bill came to around £120 for four. Pleasant annexe room with banquettes and ordinary tables. I swapped chairs as the chairs with arms were a little tight.

Cornel was one of the best managers I have ever met. The service was perfect and food was very varied and very good quality. It was a special treat for my son and his family

Great food, lovely interior and very welcoming staff, definitely recommend! We were having dinner with our 5 years old daughter that got an envelope that had a colouring book, crayons, stickers... We were really happy to see our daughter enjoying colouring etc. while we were enjoying our nibbles and glass of champagne.
