We all had a wonderful day - we booked a family party the staff were very accommodating and the food was excellent. We had changed the booking several times and the manager was very helpful and understanding. We have visited the Grantley Arms many times now and we will definitely go there again. Thank you all for your patience and understanding.

It’s really sad to see how downhill The Grantley Arms has gone, since being taken over by Youngs. Friends have mentioned it but I’ve given it the benefit of the doubt. I visited with friends and the atmosphere was completely lacking with only 3 tables filled on a Wednesday night in Half Term. There were no specials on offer, as there always have been (and pre Youngs, these were always fantastic) and the fish that I ordered came with a garnish of diced tomatoes, which reminded me of my daughter’s cookery lesson takeaways. We had pudding; the banoffee sticky pudding was so dry that none of us finished it and the 4th person had the Eton mess but said it didn’t taste nice, so didn’t finish it and then had bad stomach pains through the night. I really hope someone comes and saves this pub. It has so much potential with its location and uses to always been a great place to go with fantastic food. Such a shame.

My wife and I celebrated our wedding at the Grantley with a meal in their beautiful private dining room with our family, followed by a larger reception and BBQ in the dining area and courtyard. We couldn’t have asked for anything more - it was a perfect day, largely in part to Jen’s planning and organisation in the months leading up to, and including the big day. Matt’s BBQ and dinner were both sublime, and our guests were raving about just how food was. All the team at the Grantley made the whole day extremely easy, and unforgettable. The Grantley were accommodating and flexible to help us shape our day. We would not hesitate to recommend the Grantley for a wedding reception!

The service was absolutely abysmal. Everything took ages to come to our table, and when I ordered another pint of Guinness and my wife another glass of white wine, it took over half an hour to arrive. I asked 4 different times to separate waitresses and 1 waiter, each who then proceeded to clear a table, check that everyone was OK in the side room with only one table of customers, the rest of the tables were empty etc. Our area of the restaurant was only about half full. The bar, however, was teaming with people, at least half of whom were standing holding drinks and serving themselves, the tables were being served food, mostly hamburgers from what I could see. To top it off, many of the items on the menu were not available. They had only two fish dishes, which were both Haddock, but they weren't available. No Seafood. They surprisingly had Flat Iron steak on the menu, but again, didn't have any. It was the worst service and menu options, given so many items were not available that evening. It was Christmas Eve, and you would expect they would have had enough of what was on the menu in stock and staff serving the customers. The main restaurant area hardly got a look in, while all of their attention was focused on the bar. We weren't even eating late in the evening, when it might be acceptable to one run out of a few items. It ruined our expectations of a nice meal out on Christmas Eve.

Sadly a real mess, one of our favourite's for a late Sunday roast. The beef was super tough, and so over done, no parsnips. Chicken no bread sauce 1 carrot and no parsnips! Vegan nut roast (always GF) not today…. No GF bread, no chickpea burger (no chickpeas in the kitchen). A small dish of humus was my protein for a vegan roast!!! no squash and all these things were on the menu! There were several people racing around and a real sense of chaos. At 3.30pm when it was not busy at all! So disappointing, the young waiter who did his level best was rather overwhelmed and the management seemed so very stressed. We got a lovely polite service from the waiter and no follow up of any sort from management despite the poor experience. We’d far rather leave a great review but sadly not on this one.

Genuinely one of the best pubs in Surrey if not the UK. Ticks all the boxes - great food, service, historic building, roaring fires and just a wonderful vibe. Truly the definition of a living room for the village. Our server was wonderful and Naren was fantastic at making sure the whole pub ran like clockwork. Also the guy roaming around with a giant tray of Yorkshires and a bucket of gravy - GENIUS! Every pub should do this 🙌

We went there on a quiet Monday lunchtime, so cannot comment on the atmosphere. The service was reasonably attentive. We were pleasantly surprised to see the Light Options were really rather unusual at a time when pretty every pub has an identical menu. I had bubble & squeak with black pudding, crispy bacon and 2 perfect poached eggs. Pudding was also a surprise, we had a burnt cream pudding (think crème brûlée) which was excellent We came back on a Saturday evening and of course there was more of an atmosphere (though it was earlier so a family kinda vibe). Service was friendly and attentive. I had mussels done in Guinness which was pretty unusual and excellent. My partner was equally happy. My only disappointment was there was far less choice than at lunch. It was however very good if you were a veggie. We tried the Sunday lunch and it was pretty good. The staff were pleasant, it was busy but didn’t feel overwhelming. Parking is limited, maybe 15 cars max.

Normally the Grantley is good food and service but yesterday was disastrous. They got the drinks order wrong, forgot our starters completely and the nut roast was not a patch on the previous time we had it. The gravy was very thin and tasteless. We left as soon as possible. The problems revolved around the young waiter failing to write anything down and his memory was obviously poor. Apparently the usual chef was on holiday but that is no excuse. Obviously, we need to just keep to fish and chips on a weekday lunchtime.

Food really good but could have been warmer but there were 20+ of us plus a full pub. We were in the Bakery which was a wonderful side room with lots of history. Warren and his team really pulled out the stops to look after us all. A warm log fire and lovely table decorations- wood with brass candle enclosures. My roast beef was great although could have been thinner sliced which would have given the appearance of more- but I was full anyway. They even let us bring our home baked cakes to celebrate our eldest sons 30’th which they helped to prepare with candles at the end of the meal.

I had heard (summer 2024) that the Grantley had not been as good in recent times as earlier; so I booked a table for lunch and went to see for myself. My post-Christmas and New Year bloat caused me to wish for something veggie and light. I couldn’t quite find something I wanted on the menu, except side dishes, and asked the waiter to speak with the chef and request a special salad; what arrived was a delight, minestrone to start (warming on a very cold day) and then a salad made specially that was tasty and nutritious, and nicely presented. Excellent service, reasonable price, great food, what’s not to love?

Beautiful pub but the service was the slowest I’ve experienced in my life. It took us 3 hours to get a starter and a main for a table of 7. Pub wasn’t even at 40% capacity so no real reason for the slow service. With a 2 year old that became very stressful! No one came to check on drinks or apologise for the delay. Service was very friendly when we got some! Food was tasty but not worth the wait.

My two friends and I have been meeting up at Christmas for a few years at the Grantley Arms. This year we were very disappointed with the menu. We struggled to choose anything. My friend had the cauliflower soup which was like water. I had the smoked salmon with beetroot. The salmon was the thick chewy end. The beetroot did nothing for it. My other friend had the vegetable burger which she said was ok. There wasn’t anything on the main courses that appealed. The special was sea bass again not exciting.

We have visited multiple times in the past and decided to go on a Sunday afternoon to celebrate a big family birthday. The food was reasonable though the Sunday roasts were swimming in gravy, which would have been better served in the side. However the service simply wasn’t good enough! At every stage we waited, Drinks took 20min to arrive, the starters took over 30min and when the main courses came, one had been forgotten. Condiments took a further 10mins by which point most of the table were well into their meal and throughout there were multiple delays to getting a drink. It looked like a lack of staff as the young girl who served us was very polite and professional but clearly had no support and was trying to cover many areas. I won’t rush back for a big group meal.

So the food and staff who served us were great...But! The food took forever! My mother and I ordered 2 starters which were the soup and croquettes, and they were very nice! For the main we ordered a trio of side plates to share which were, a scotch egg, Whitebait and chips. I thought 2 hours would be plenty of time for us to eat our food and for me to get to the event I was due at by 9pm. But the mains came out at just after 8pm! That's an 1hr 30 mins! In the end I had to scoff my food down and leave my Mum by herself to make it on time to the event. Which was upsetting as it was the only meal we had together as I was visiting. If this is the usual thing than I suggest you warn customers on the average wait, or book less customers per hour, as this was ridiculous and should not be taking this much time. Very frustrating as everything else was great.

Had heard good things and also been in for a casual sandwich at lunchtime which were great. However this visit was not. We had allowed 1 hour 45 minutes to have a main course and some bar snacks but struggled. Our bar snacks were a scotch egg, hummus and olives. Pretty simple stuff. But they took ages to arrive. Although they did taste very good. The main course did not arrive until nearly 1 hour 20 after we arrived. This was after we had to ask where it was after an hour. We only ordered fish and chips plus the sausages so it should not have been difficult. My partner got the wrong chips but at that point we did not have time to ask for them to be swapped and had to bolt our food down as we needed to leave. The sausages had an odd taste to them. The fish was excellent but the chips were very average. Service was friendly and plenty of offers of drinks but doesn’t make up for the slow food. Such a shame.

The service and atmosphere was fine, but having had very good sausage and mash at the Grantley Arms before, I was disappointed to find the sausages this time were of a much lower quality, in that they lacked flavour and it was difficult to cut through the skin. Atmosphere: Unreal!!! Managers Warren and Jen were on top as per usual and Waitress Jess' was a Delight and her service was snappy and quick! I had completely forgotten that sandwiches, by default, come with a side of chips and I'd accidentally ordered an extra portion ( very silly of me) and GMW (General Manager Warren) was a legend, as always, and refunded me the money for the chips! I had a quick scan of the reviews of this place and decided to give it a go for Sunday lunch .Unfortunately the food was a bit disappointing .. very overcooked sirloin roast and the pork belly wasn’t even recognisable as such . The atmosphere was good but to be seated at a makeshift table on the main entrance thoroughfare when there seemed plenty of other tables around was a bit strange ? I don’t want to give too much of a negative review and just let the photos of my Sunday lunch do the talking . I feel a bit sorry for not leaving a tip as the wait staff tried their best .. but I’m sure they know the food is really not up to scratch . I really don’t know why other reviewers actually rave about the food ? Perhaps they should get out more ?

I recently applied for a Chef de Partie role at Grantley Arms and was thrilled to be selected. However, there was an issue with my right-to-work documentation, which I promptly resolved by obtaining the correct document from my university. Despite my swift action and clear communication, I received a rejection email without any explanation. This experience has been incredibly disappointing, especially since I declined another job opportunity to join Grantley Arms. The lack of transparency and the abrupt rejection after resolving the document issue reflect poorly on their hiring process. I would advise potential applicants to consider this before applying, as their recruitment practices appear disorganised and inconsiderate. Totally unfair.

Waited over half an hour for a starter. Then a further half an hour for our mains. Wrong dish served, then key ingredients missing from dish, had to ask about missing elements twice. Food drowned in the sauce so couldn't eat it. Nice looking pub and tried fairly hard on service when staff eventually made eye contact. Prices far too high based on what was served and service. Disappointing.

Lovely staff, efficient. Limited menu for children but very tasty. Black rice with the trout was slightly bland.

Fantastic (and large!) Sunday roasts, however the fish and chips we had last week was very disappointing - greasy batter and the oil in the fryer was somewhat past its best.

Called in here as usual for what was another absolutely lovely lunch and drink in the glorious sunshine. Harry was on duty and his warm friendly outlook makes the visit all the more special. My wife and I had selected our sandwiches with triple cooked chips as a side order and it was excellent. This place must have the most realistically priced drinks in Farnham and it is so much cheaper than anywhere else. Thank again for yet another amazing Friday lunchtime experience.
