The Grand in Newcastle upon Tyne

Lovely café set around Haymarket area. Really pleasant staff, clean with good range of food. As usual for us, a cheese scone beckoned and Daz had a bacon bap, piece of Malteser cake to share with 2 teas came to less than a tenner . Think they might have forgotten something 🤔? Anyway loved it and will be back

I have walked so many times along the grand café and never entered until today. It has been a great surprise! It has fridges with cans and sandwiches, crisps and pastries. The coffee area is wonderful and the coffee station with sugars, cocoa, cinnamon... and they also have loose teas. The tables are by the big window with very nice views to the street. In general it is spotless, including the toilets. The terrace has six tables around beautiful plants which makes your coffee taste even better. I encourage coffee shops not to apply £0.50 for alternative milk, let's help the climate change.

It's a busy but friendly coffee shop. Sitting outside is great, especially if like myself you like to watch the world go by.

Good place to go if you're meeting others and you're early. But, it's card only, no cash.

Delicious coffee and selection of cakes and light bites. Friendly staff. Spotlessly clean, bright and airy. Nice atmosphere, eclectic mix of students and officey types having meetings- I guessing as it next to the uni a lot of the patrons come from there. Will definitely visit again if I'm passing.

Free upgrade to large coffee before 10 am week days, can't go wrong.

Friendly staff, quick service, nice coffee. Nothing super fancy but exactly what I needed. All the usual coffee types you'd expect. A little pricey but that's everywhere nowadays.

Cofefeve right on the steps of Newcastle university, So good I went back again, a nice place to sit inside and without, and place where people can have work lunches any time of day.

Great location. Poor customer service. Refused to even give me one cube of ice with a cold drink as it was reserved only for the iced coffees. Very poor and strange in my opinion and the lady serving seemed as though she resented me for even asking. Coffee however was great and reasonable. Perhaps best just to take away rather than sit in.

Really nice food and drinks on offer which are good value for money. Lovely space to work that isn’t usually too busy. Really nice vibes make working a bit nicer!

It's the second time we have visited Branzino. Firstly the menu is varied with a good choice. The food is delicious and well cooked. The staff are very efficient and friendly. We loved the decor and it's in a lovely position for a walk by the river later. It's a restaurant we hope to come back to again and again. I would definitely recommend it.

A nice little place, my first visit since this used to be called Campus Coffee & was run by the Uni. Nice staff & acceptable (but sadly not great) coffee. They are also a "card only" establishment which loses them ponts in my view. I value the convenience of paying by whichever legal tender I choose.

Best cappuccino I have had in a while. The coffee is nice and there is no bitter after taste just the nice taste of coffee

Hmmm decor and location are good. Service is meh. Staff seem too deep into their own conversations to notice the customers. You feel like you are interrupting when ordering.

Lovely decor and all looked very clean and tasteful . However there were three members of staff behind the bar deep in private chat . Just about looked up to take my order before returning to the chat ! Coffee tasted bitter and was too hot for a flat white . I won’t return :(

Ok coffee shop, no signal where I was sitting. Couldn’t find free WiFi. The staff didn’t bring the drink over just called out when it ready. No chat really when I ordered or anything. Was quite busy being that close to the school. Nice interior, lovely finish. Likely won’t return. They are better coffee shops in town closer to my work to be honest.

Poor options and tasteless coffee

It's not awful but it's not great. The redecoration attracted me, it is a very visually pleasing venue. The coffee is not great, but palatable. Main complaints are the poor food choices and overwhelming heat inside.

One of the worst coffee I've ever drank.

The coffee is better than the major chains (though visit Quilliams, Pink Lane or Flat Caps for the very best coffee in Newcastle). The staff are lovely too. The food is like other Newcastle University cafés. Could be better, but cheap and cheerful.

Great place to meet, far cheaper than rival chain coffee shops and often much quieter.

Usual eat@ offers, nice interior, friendly staff.
