This place is an absolute treasure and is the perfect kind of pub. Great selection of drinks including their own beer, a simple but delicious menu and a wonderful ambience. It is quirky with some amazing furniture. A proper pub.

Souless. Waited ages for the cold food, which was poor. Basic at best. Hope the arrival of the Nat Trust cafe in 2025 will encourage improvements, or at least will offer a (better) alternate!

We walked here from Woolacombe - an awesome route with super scenery. Enjoyed a venison steak sandwich washed down by some super local beer sat in the vine clad veranda as the rain fell. Lovely. Barman great. Gave us some great advice about a return route. Set in a lovely little village. Car parking a real problem so do suggest you walk there

Walked from our campsite (warcombe farm) beautiful walk but food was unfortunately lacking. Quaint and quirky pub lovely beer garden and veranda with grape vines, very popular. Felt a bit tired and shabby ?chic Plowmans served on a board with generous cheese portion with red cabbage slaw and ham, menu said home made bread but was ok and nothing special. My wife had ham egg and chips which was very average. The otter opa was good. Ok but not as good as we were expecting after reading 5* reviews.

This is our local pub / restaurant. If you love home made food from a small menu. They cook what’s local and what they enjoy cooking . Everything is homemade even the chips . The food and quality is exceptional , the price is very good and the staff are lovely . The wine / beers / ciders reflect the same philosophy. The ambiance is second to none .. it’s such a lovely / real pub . Enjoy it for the food / drinks / open mic / music evening / games evening … or just for what it is .. which is a gem …

What a gem of a find. Lovely quirky little pub. My wife is a coeliac, and most of the main courses on the menu were gluten free. Delicious food, very friendly staff. We had the added bonus that the local folk band were practicing, so great food, nice chilled music & lovely surroundings. Definitely a 10/10.

Homely, welcoming pub which is so relaxing! We visited on a cold, wet February day and were cheered immediately by the roaring log burner. Looked forward to trying the beer brewed on site - which was a real treat. The food was freshly prepared and yummy. I loved my venison toasted sandwich. Dog friendly pub. Too wet to explore the garden sadly but hunkered down inside! Definitely on my list of favourite pubs!

Very oversubscribed because there is no competition for miles, Trying to pack too much in to a pub that is not designed to accommodate. All tables reserved but still serving food that takes far too long to come and risks turfing people outside in the cold. Food was only a snack and was appalling, coke on draught made the drinks taste off. Certainly not designed to have an open mic session as well as people eating on reserved tables. No space for musicians. Damn shame as could be a lovely atmosphere but no effort made to improve or accommodate. Perhaps more could be used of the outside space

Visited on Sunday 26th March 2023 as part of an Ilfracombe (Torrs) walk along the Tarka Trail/SW Coastal Path to Lee Bay & Back. Solo walk on a cloudy but dry day. Here is the first element i.e. the walk to Lee and stopping off for a break at this pub which appeared to be pretty much the only business open in the town, so a bit of a captive audience which isn't ideal. As it was I just ordered a pot of tea and some chips. When brought out, the tea was supplied with no sugar option and the chips with no tissue or other condiments. Not the end of the world but less than what I have experienced elsewhere.

We have been here a few years running as we do a reunion walk every year from Ilfracombe to Woolacombe and usually stop here for coffee and cake. This year no coffee available (machine broken) and no cake at all. A scoop of ice cream was around £4. It was a major disappointment as not a lot else available locally. Will take a flask n slice of cake with me on the walk next time!

I really don’t understand how this place is getting good reviews. We drove 25 minutes to go here on a recommendation and it was bad in every way. The atmosphere is dull and lifeless, with no music, no friendly welcome or anything to make you feel that you are out for a nice dinner. The whole place needs investment - it takes “rustic” too far and is completely rough around the edges without any charm at all. The food was mediocre at best - without doubt the most bland and uninspired meal I have had in a long time. Waiting absolutely ages for food didn’t help either. I don’t want to be harsh but this place needs some love, care and serious attention.

Unfortunately awful. Ordered three chicken roast lunches and one toastier with chips. The toastie and chips were fine but all three roasts at £13.50 each were appalling. Small slice of chicken, odd assortment of veg, all of which barely luke warm and poor quality. It is such a shame as so many establishments are suffering badly now, but we had to complain. In addition the service was poor, initially comments were met with ambivalence and then table not cleared at all. Whole place was freezing cold.

The service was a bit patchy, great staff but clearly flat-out all night. Although we booked a 6pm table, it was still almost an hour from ordering to receiving our food ... definitely worth the wait though. Only slight niggle was the number of people walking in to and around the place without following any covid guidelines and not being challenged by the staff who were all wearing face masks/gloves/using sanitiser all evening. Great big beer garden, easy to park and dog friendly. We will be back next Summer!!

This was once a lovely pub, even allowing for Covid Rules , this was a strange experience, No tables in the main Bar area that was full of PC's and Guitars. The tables were set up in the old games area which was like being in an old garage. One previous visitor in our cottage guest book likened it to a scene from Poldark. You ordered your drinks and food and it was delivered to a different table for you to collect (OK it was Table Service) did not experience this anywhere else. However when it came to paying the bill they were happy to come to the table with the card machine, so why not with drinks and food? The Garden once a lovely place was a tatty mess. I have no issues with the staff all polite and friendly. I felt for what you got the food was a bit on the pricy side. I was very dissapointed on seeing how run down the pub had gone. On our last evening we booked a table, a gentleman behind was choking on his food and despite my wife calling for help nobody turned up for some time. Luckily my son is a qualified First Aider for outdoor activities and after many thumps on the mans back managed to dislodge the obstruction. Not the pubs fault, but if my son was not there could have been a different story. We will be going back to the cottage next year so lets hope it has improved

Had a number of lunches and meals here over the past month all have been good - particularly enjoyed the lentil curry and the leek and cheddar sourdough sandich with red slaw - great wine list - staff that are happy to leave you alone and follow covid guidelines to the letter

Staying locally, we asked the owners where would be good to have a sunday roast. It has a small parking area directly to the left of the pub.We tried booking via their website on Friday but no response so called them sat evening to fit us in. No problem. They had space. When arriving you have to ring a bell for them to show your to a table. It is tapped to a gate and well sign posted. It is all table service and they have 2 real log fires. Gorgeous. We had already decided on a roast. They only had one meat choice for £12. Though it was gorgeous. Had 3 dessert choices...I went for the apple crumble. It was nice. All home cooked. It's a very nice no frills pub, quite small with about 5/6 tables so need to book.Staff were happy to leave you to your own devices and you had to attract them for help though they did come over.Very quiet in there and the 'office' seemed to be in the bar area.Maybe a bit of music from radio in the background would be nice and check backs on food. Having said that the food was nice..no complaints.

There is nothing in Lee Bay except the sea and the Grampus Inn. So I booked for an early evening meal in advance for our party of five as we were staying nearby. We visited on our first night just for a drink and to check the place out. One has to ring a bell so contact details could be taken and to limit numbers. The staff were busy, attentive, very polite and very coronavirus savvy. The beer was good, the wine list reasonable and the ambiance very pleasant. The pub looked a bit scruffy but certainly not unloved. The following night we returned for our meal having already been told our table would be outside under a verandah. What a lovely meal it was. There was an excellent humus started, a potato and leak soup you could stand the spoon up in with just the right amount of flavour and seasoning. Four of us venison steak and chips for our main course and it was superb as were the accompaniments. the candles and garden lights added to the atmosphere. Very pleasant evening. This is a no frills pub serving good potables and comestibles with good quality staff. I reserve my dislike for their website which bears absolutely no relation to the pub and is no help whatsoever..

A dog friendly pub 👍 The food was fantastic. Vegan options available. I had the black bean and sweet potato stew which was so yummy! I'd definitely go back.

Visited for lunch and picnic tables were in the back yard/garden. Had Ham Egg and chips and wife had Nachos and pulled pork which we both enjoyed. Tables well spaced and 10 out of 10 for social distancing. Not sure how it would be on a wetter day.

Visited here a lot as a child so decided to pay a visit with the family for a carvery today. Quickly served at the bar and given tokens to collects our food. Beef, turkey and pork on offer, I had a bit of each. The food wasn’t bad but the potatoes were quite undercooked, the Yorkshire puddings were awful, huge burnt rocks, totally inedible and unfortunately the food was luke warm. Meat was lovely as was the gravy and the cauliflower cheese. Great atmosphere in the pub but the food was a bit of a let down.

Very pretty pub. Like a tardis it seems bigger on the inside! We popped in for a snack. Food was lovely. Husband really enjoyed the real ale. Definitely recommend
