Very much enjoyed our late lunch here. Young staff and manager were very friendly and helpful. Extremely good value for money, reasonable prices and big portions. We actually quite like the unique interior it’s cosy!

We used to go here very often 25 years ago, so on a rare trip to Blandford we revisited for a bit of nostalgia but we were very disappointed. Food was average 'greasy spoon' and ok for the price which is what we expected.....but... Our autistic daughter refused to drink her drink and noticed it was out of date, I quietly asked at the counter if they could change it, the owner who was sat at a side table gave a sample bottle of robinsons (which was fine) to the counter staff, but loudly went on about how there was nothing wrong with the drinks just the date 🙄. Tea was awful, but food was ok. The staff were discussing how much money the cafe had taken that morning and who was or wasn't on the rota, and what people had been up to, it all felt a bit awkward unprofessional and not what you expect in a cafe. Before we left we used the bathrooms which are very very tired, tiles hanging off the walls, broken floor tiles, mismatched damaged tiles in cubicles and overall just not very clean. The cafe itself really needs a coat of paint and a good clean. Sadly won't be returning.

After a walk at Milton Abbas we dropped into Blandford for lunch. This gem of a cafe was the most reasonable of all. A warm welcome, nice service and good sausage sandwiches. We were even provided with a small pair of scissors to open the mustard sachets. What a great idea! All meals were very reasonable priced, would definitely go there again,

What a wonderful unexpected visit we had here. Great place, great staff, great toilets. We visited here on our weekly Pattern Designer breakfast here. Completely by chance as we were driving through Blandford and Sally needed to get her Nan some new pants as unfortunately she had an accident whilst driving up from Salisbury. Straight away you knew this was gunna be a ‘real’ spit and sawdust cafe full of proper greasy food, and we were not disappointed. The food itself was wonderful, really tasty and it’s Nice to find a place that does the No.1 breakfast ingredient ‘fried bread’ honestly couldn’t fault any of it. And it was delivered to are table in super fast time. You feel like your in lord of the rings once in there and next time I might wear some big ears and take my bible 🤣 Big shout out to the head of house, head honcho, and generally top man, who was serving the food! You know he loves and takes pride in his job because he was wearing a shirt and tie. Really nice bloke who was full of banter, and he definitely took a shine to Sally’s Nan. My only moan would be that the condiment selection needs improvements. The toilets were also on point, and accessible enough for Sally’s Nan to privately sort herself out, the staff also very kindly provided some wet-wipes. A really great old school cafe, that deserves an award, which was a lovely act of kindness. Thankyou gorge team. We will be back.

The Gorge Over from Essex visiting family for the weekend, and decided to go out for Sunday breakfast. The Gorge was open early, we had a cheery welcome from "Mr Right", and all options of breakfast were catered for under his watchful eye. This place is tastefully decorated, there is far more seating available than it looks from the outside and the food was delicious. Highly recommend and will definitely eat here again.

Whilst on business I was looking for a breakfast place and came across Gorge cafe. Your typical fryup the owner Tony is very accommodating. Good thing is it opens earlier than the rest which suited me. So you can normally get in anytime after 6.30. Large portions, not the healthiest but you know what you are getting for this.

I hadn't been here for about nine months after the last experience. I thought I would give it a second chance. Burger bun dry and crumbly. Clientele were "special" (PC term) I do have sympathy, but please control them when it disturbs every other diner. Years ago this place served great reasonably priced food in pleasant surroundings. Such a shame to see it now. A third chance will not be forthcoming.

What a very nice little hidden gem we went in for breakfast today and got two whopping gert hot breakies the cafe is very nicely decorated in a similar style to an American diner without the vulgar colours all done in nicely varnished pine and mirrors then at the back rests a very nice surprised the whole room is like a hidden cave with rustic decor brightly done , the only downer for us was the meats used for the breakfast had had cheaper end of product used. Sausages were cheap and tasteless and the bacon was very very salty and ketchups were watery and cheap we asked for bubble and squeak but we got a couple of preformed processed blobs obviously not home Made but bulk purchased from the same sellers as the above , it takes very little money or time to make your own bubble is it really worth selling inferior product just to save a few bucks ? Your customers would Love it if it was a little better thought out also could we suggest slightly better priced and products which would put you on the go to list of breakfast eateries because everything else is perfect thank you for the experience

We have been going to the Gorge for many years and always had good meals. Our experience on Monday was pretty poor. The lady taking orders took ages to take orders when it came to my simple order ( quarter pound burger, chips and a mug of tea ) she went through it 3 times and still overcharged and had to refund me. When it arrived, the burger was plain with no relish, onions or salad in a very dry white bun. I took it back and the burger was put right. To top it all we had some "special" (PC term) people there with a carer who could not control them. They were throwing whole platefuls of hot food and drinks, wailing and groaning. The meal from hell. Couldn't wait to get out.

Came here when we were waiting for the WW1 homecoming parade. Absolutely terrible. The water tasted VILE as if it was really dirty and was just sat there for days. There were bits floating around in it. The food looked very unappetising. The staff member who served us look way too young to even be working fairly rude too! The toilets were even worse! Tiles coming off the walls no locks on the men’s toilet doors! Really dirty aswell. Safe to say I’m not coming back and not recommending it to anyone

Tried this place for the first time yesterday and was very disappointed. The coffee was little more than brown coloured hot water and the jumbo breakfast was most unappetising. The baked beans had obviously been reheated and congealed on the plate. The sausages were a very low quality with an unpleasant taste but it was the eggs and bacon that were the most unappetising, they were covered in black speckles as if cooked in a dirty frying pan and had the flavour of well used cooking oil about them.

I have eaten here for many years and always had a good no-nonsense meal. Today they must have had the "B" team cooking. Firstly, I heard the cook saying that he couldn't find the burgers. Secondly, the chips were like translucent bullets and I think they had been deep fried twice. The burger was fine though. If I had been a first time customer I wouldn't come back. Hopefully they can get their cooking back up to standard before I come here again. Come on The Gorge, get back to your usual high standard like you used to be.

We visited for the first time a couple of weeks ago despite living in Blandford for the longest time. As it was my birthday I asked my husband if he could take me to breakfast and I chose the Gorge after asking for people's suggestions on the local FB page. We weren't at all disappointed. The breakfast was absolutely yummy, great portion sizes and a really good price. The staff were so friendly and despite having never visited before, the owner gave us our cups of tea on the house to say happy birthday. We will definitely be visiting more regularly from now on. Yes, it's a little dated but everything you would expect from a cafe that has been serving us general public for years. Thank you to the Gorge and their friendly staff.

This is a classic cafe with a style which reminds me of the cafes if the 1970s. You can get mugs of tea and a cooked breakfast of course. The days are over that Ethel would give a huge teapot a swirl and a murky brew would be poured. A good place on the bench style seating to read the paper.

Sunday roast was good ie.good selection of vegetables (blue cabbage and cauliflower were tasty, vegetables were not overcooked), generous portions of meat (I had beef which was a bit overcooked for me but it’s just me being a bit picky about beef. It was seasoned very well).Really enjoyed sticky toffee pudding. Good value for money - there was 2for1 deal for Sunday roast. Friendly and helpful service. Nice atmosphere and decor. Will definitely come back to check out the rest of the menu.

On our journey home from an overnight-stay in Bournemouth we decided to take a minor roads route back home rather than the direct main road route. This took us through quite a few small towns and villages. Our plan was to find a Farm Shop Café or a village / small town-centre café where we could get lunch: ideally a snack and a hot drink. We were over an hour into our journey when we saw the signs for Marcia’s Farm Shop and turned into what was a heavily pot-holed carpark. We then walked into the signposted barn noting that there was plenty of tables and chairs arranged in neat rows but no-one was sat there. There was another door into ‘The Shack’; inside was actually a full bar; like you would find in a pub. There were a few locals propping-up the bar, chatting and drinking draught beer. This is not what we had expected and we assumed that the ‘Marcia’s Farm Shop’ and ‘The Shack’ were one in the same business. There didn’t appear to be any farm produce on sale: other than, we assumed, the food offered in the menu. It was almost exactly 1pm when we were approached and welcomed by a pleasant lady. We asked about food, and she advised us to select a table and choose from the menu of snacks that were available, and that she would return to take our order. We studied the menu having ordered some tea and my Partner chose a fishfinger baguette, whereas I chose a toasted ham and cheese sourdough sandwich. The plates took a good 20-25 minutes to arrive from ordering, but freshly prepared food does take time. So, we sipped tea and amused ourselves with the help of a large (probably over-fed and under-exercised) old Labrador who constantly wandered and sniffed around the bar and seated areas. The dog then settled at our table once our food order arrived. This was not a serious issue for us (others however may dislike being ‘hounded’ by slobbering dogs while they eat their food). Both plates featured a colourful and tasty fresh dressed salad which was really good. My sandwich was really firm and crunchy with a generous helping of thick-cut ham and plenty of well-melted cheese, and a small portion of red cabbage coleslaw to go with the salad. It was really good and enjoyed. My Partner’s baguette featured homemade cod loin fishfingers and tartare sauce (both inside the baguette). The fish was a bit moist and insubstantial; despite being made from the loin. Cod can be like this and it is why we prefer the meatier haddock. The baguette also accompanied by a few crisps, but they were a really strange flavour for accompanying fish (reminded us of Oxo beef - but very artificial). Our food was on the whole good, generously portioned and very much welcomed, and it was good value.

Six of us had lunch here. The food was good but they struggled to cope with a group of six people; three of us got our food promptly, then there was a long wait before two more were served, and the last poor soul had to wait even longer for his toastie while people who had come in and ordered after us got theirs. We didn't expect all six orders to arrive at the same time, but for one person not to be fed till some of their companions had long finished their food wasn't good. When the food did arrive it was tasty, hot and filling so we were happy with that. Best to come here in smaller numbers, methinks.
