For some reason - Lord knows why - the guy who runs this place likes to hire very young girls who don't know what they're doing and seem to think you ordering a drink is an infringement on their leisure time.

Will was great with service, advice and adding a good vibe. Will visit again.

Went recently , asked for a pint of lemonade with no ice. Pretty normal request you’d think? The bartender gave me a half full glass of lemonade ( in a pint glass) , cost about £3.40. Interested to see what I would’ve got if I asked for a half pint of lemonade with no ice. a few dashes? Never seen this before anywhere. What a joke of a pub

They refused to grant me the opportunity to explain my sobriety and completely disregarded my valid concerns. It was evident that they were uninterested in providing fair customer service or resolving the issue. As a customer, I believe it is crucial for businesses to treat their patrons with respect and attentiveness. Unfortunately, my experience at the gordon arms displayed a complete lack of professionalism and customer care. Their unfounded accusations and subsequent refusal to listen to my side of the story left me feeling humiliated and disrespected. I strongly urge potential customers to reconsider visiting the Gordon arms if they value fair treatment and reasonable customer service. It is disappointing to see a business that fails to uphold basic principles of customer satisfaction and instead opts for unjust actions and a dismissive attitude towards its patrons. I sincerely hope that my negative experience serves as a wake-up call for the management of the Gordon arms to reevaluate their customer service practices and foster an environment of fairness and respect.

I've been a regular at the Gordon's Arms for many years and have always enjoyed the warm and welcoming atmosphere of this classic pub. The staff have always been friendly and attentive, and I've had many great memories here with friends and family. However, during my recent visit, I encountered a new European bartender with dyed hair who was less than friendly. In fact, his attitude was downright condescending and rude, and he spoke to customers in a way that was unprofessional and disrespectful. While this experience was disappointing, I still have a lot of love for the Gordon's Arms and the great times I've had here. I hope that management takes this feedback into consideration and addresses any concerns with their staff, as I would hate to see such a great pub lose its charm.

Good old authentic manky worn English pub. These proper pubs are very few and far between in Southampton now so thoroughly enjoyed watching the rugby in raw energetic company with proper old fashioned unflavoured cider! Bar staff could have been a bit more authentic and friendly which was a disappointment and the toilets were absolutely disgusting. It’s been a while since I’ve had to hover over a toilet seat! Nevertheless, a fun time.

Cheap drinks, usually very busy so get there early.

This is more of a student pub than anything else but there are several non student locals that use it. It seems friendly and based on my experience it is almost as cheap as a wetherspoons. Recommended!

Horrendous visit. Went here for a quick half a pint with a friend before going to a restaurant. The bar staff were two lads. Swearing loudly, shouting loudly talking about their glasses smelling awful. My mate had to start shouting across the table just to talk to me as the staff were being so loud. Not surprising it’s empty all the time. 10 years ago this was a great pub I used to visit weekly. Utter shambles now. I felt embarrassed for them.

12 tables in the garden, only 3 or 4 with heating. Out of at least 4 beers, it is just after lockdown but a bit disappointing. Coors light was £2-90/pint. The person behind the bar was very helpful and apologetic. Sport was on in the bar but no-one could watch out and no TV in the garden

Firstly it’s a shame I feel the need to write such a poor review. However this evening myself and a friend went to visit this pub for a quick pint while waiting for our takeaway to be cooked and was greeted by the rudest person in the pub industry. Before entering we ensured we had face masks on and proceeded to the bar. We were then literally shouted at across the bar to ‘go to the door’ We proceeded to the door and waited where the male member of staff approached us. There was not even a simple hello. Just ‘are you meeting anyone’ We weren’t, so he literally said ‘We’re full, leave’ I was shocked by the attitude and asked if he was usually this welcoming to customers. To which he replied . ‘What you say!’ It wasn’t worth the argument so we left.

This pub used to have a nice inclusive vibe and serve cheap and cheerful drinks. My visit today was ruined by bar staff acting as condensing tryants, over me and my friend not appreciating the complicated online sign-up rules—incidentally not enforced by other Portswood pubs—and expressing our dissatisfaction. I was told they didn’t need my custom if I didn’t like it, and there were plenty of others pubs to go to, if I didn’t like their particular regime. Well, that exactly what I did. I went to two other nearby pubs that were more welcoming and apologetic about the hassle. Later on I peeped in the windows. Unsurprisingly, the place was empty. Except for bar staff playing on their phones. They didn’t care.

Best pub I've been to in the area. Look after their beer, charge very very sensible prices, not sure I've ever been so pleased with a pint at such a luxury of having been well looked after and a low price. Beer selections to seem to rotate a little bit, although Doombar is always available. Very wide selection of lagers and ciders available on draught as well. 5 televisions (4 big ones and one little one) showing two different sporting events simultaneously. Great for watching the Champions League on a midweek evening. Very friendly staff and the landlord is a great guy who takes his pub seriously.

One of them alright pubs. You go in you drink and you leave nice and easy. They don’t accept card though and the nearest cash point has started charging for cash withdrawals which is a shame. And the fact that they allow dogs adds an extra star because everyone loves dogs ! :)

Do you ever remember the little local pub on the corner which seemed like home ?? Full of real people and in the days before having a drink was called 'leisure' or 'wine bar'..and the prices doubled overnight to accommodate the new title. Well people they still exist here and there and here is one of them. We drink in here quite often and just love the pub and the people who frequent it. It has to be the cheapest drink in Southampton by far.... There are numerous TV.s to watch the matches on, nicely decorated and overall an enjoyable night out. In summary just a proper street corner local. Try it !!!....It wont suit everybody granted but if you are into a pint and a conversation then you will. If its a 'wine bar' giggling and pretentious, and ridiculous southampton prices you're looking for you wont.

Walked in last night. Some punter commented on my 6 year old daughters beauty and told us that no children aloud! Small sign on front door you wouldn't notice and they don't except cards. Creepy place! Old men commenting on young children.....great crowd! Turned around and happily left. Seems like the 50s and 60s haven't left this pub! No women in there except barmaid so assuming no women aloud either!

It's an OK kind of pub. The beer is cheaper than surrounding areas, bar staff are friendly but the only thing letting the place down is the type of people drinking there that were frequently visiting the toilets every ten minutes but I doubt that's the bar staff's fault.

Los precios son muy competitivos con una pinta de Carling de solo 2. 50.Lo único que se queja es que el servicio del bar fue un poco lento con solo 1 persona detrás de la barra, pero con suerte eso mejorará y tampoco habrá pagos sin contacto. Contactless se utiliza en muchos establecimientos y es la forma de pago predeterminada para muchas personas en estos días. También Portswood es un área estudiantil grande y se puede imaginar que muchos estudiantes querrán usar sin contacto.En general, fue genial ver regresar al Gordon.

On a hot day we were looking for a good pint and found it at The Gordon Arms. It was really well kept and though lively due to the temperature the bar man managed a good glass full. For me the sports tv's and music is a turn off so we headed out to the back. The place lacks atmosphere but I'm sure the younger punters find it acceptable.

This pub for me was fine. I like the general building and the inside, but it was uncomfortable and a bit expensive for my tastes. Certainly not bad, but nothing to write home about

I like this place. Cool, relaxed, and a little bit quirky. It's like a traditional pub, with four cask beers, but it also serves Indian meals. They call them Indian tapas, but it's not really tapas, it's proper Indian food. Come here for the pub. Come here for the Indian food. Come here for both. Well liked by the local student population.

hi we have been to the Gordon arms 3 times now the food is great freshly cooked, big potions for the larger appetite( that's me and my husband), very tasty, the chef will cook to you liking, more or less spice, which is very handy as l like slightly less spicy, and hubby likes spice a lot, more than reasonable price meals, cant wait to go again, :)

I absolutely love this place. The atmosphere is great and really feels like a traditional English pub. The food is just as amazing with a traditional Indian twist, and its the best Indian food in the area. We even had the chance to speak to the Chef who was very nice and clearly cared deeply about the quality of his food. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. I am now a regular to this pub and would definitely recommend it without hesitation.

I came into the pub with my family. The food was excellent; we had a mixed grill, lamb Karahi, Garlic Chilli Chicken and Butter Chicken. It was all served beautifully and we really enjoyed. My children had the burgers, which were also absolutely amazing. The staff were very polite and friendly and the atmosphere was very pleasant. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone.

The curry is excellent here and there was a bunch of great offers - I had lamb and rice curry with a few tapas sides between us when visiting my little brother at university . - lamb samosas are simply amazing! Highly recommended.

As a valleys boy from South Wales, the lack of proper pubs in the southampton area has been an area of major concern for me. However, the Gordon arms is the one pub I've been to down south that has the feel of a traditional English pub, one that is friendly to the max and serves a fantastic pint. Asides from this, the food is unbelievably good. The only English pub I've ever been to with authentic Indian cuisine, the food is truly sublime and I recommend to anyone.
