The afternoon tea was fabulous and the service was very efficient. We were meeting family but, they had a DJ playing in the bar area and the loud music could be heard in the dining area therefore, we had a shout to be heard! It was a real shame as we had already asked to move tables and it was still noisy at the other end of the room. Our chilled afternoon tea was anything but relaxed and I wouldn’t go again! Why doesn’t the music start at 6pm and not 3pm??

I booked the HarBar for Afternoon tea for my birthday on 2 Nov with some family. This has become a bit of a tradition now. Tea, food and service didn't disappoint as always. Love the little handmade edible desserts. Didn't get my special birthday treat this year, despite me telling reception that it was my (actual) birthday when they asked. Love the atmosphere, the view and friendly staff. Will be back!

Absolutely delightful. I took my daughter here as a treat for finishing her exams and this place is honestly one of the best afternoon teas I have ever had. It was super creative, full of surprises and plentiful, we had to take a goody box home. The staff were polite and attentive but gave you space to enjoy your time. The views are exceptional here too. I cannot wait to return, thank you so much for an incredibly beautiful day.

The host at reception (Adam I think...) was fabulous. 5*. I'd booked to be in the bar not realising the music would be far too loud for any conversation, so I asked if we could go into the restaurant. He tried but was only able to offer us a booth in the bar which, actually, was perfect. The service of the waiting staff was good and they were friendly. However, the food was very average. The soft shell crab taco came battered which wasn't mentioned on the menu and it was pretty tasteless. There were no broccoli florets in the smoked salmon pasta, only tough stalks and the pasta felt like it'd been microwaved. Apparently the fish and chips and the beef tataki were good.

This was very disappointing. We went for an afternoon tea given as a gift by family. Afternoon tea is a traditional, quiet cultured experience, enjoyed with traditional English food in a quiet and pleasant environment. So, five minutes wait for the lift, nobody around to advise. Greeted pleasantly in bar and shown to table by the window. The noise was so loud, it was impossible to have a conversation. The waiter was helpful but it was very hard to hear him as he spoke softly. He offered some water...more about this later. We asked him about the tea as this was our first visit here and we were already unimpressed by the atmosphere. He was as helpful as he could be and brought us pots of tea. Then came the food. Not much of the savoury was to our liking, but that's a question of taste. There was certainly enough food, but the large scones were very dry and contained too much bicarb. I know it's heresy, but there was no butter. Yes we could have asked, but getting the waiters attention was not easy. They are understaffed. We finished what we wanted and asked for the rest in a box to take away. They had run out of boxes and brought one small one and a small piece of foil. We had handed over our gift token. We were stopped at the lift by the waiter who told us we had to pay extra for the water. £5.59 for a bottle of water which had been offered to us at the start. I'm not sure why anyone would want to go here. It's a very mediocre place all round and to risky for a really special occasion. This one is off our list.

The waiting staff were excellent and attentive, I was offered tea 3 separate times! it’s a lovely restaurant with beautiful views. It was sadly let down by the breakfast which was dry and flavourless, and the buffet selection somewhat limited. I’d actually had a better breakfast at a worse and lower ranking hotel the night prior. The roast I had on Sunday was ok, visually looked great, lovely glaze on the gravy but the gravy needed more flavour and some of the vegetable dishes didn’t taste right, red cabbage compote was too sweet and not balanced, and the roast potatoes were dry and not heated properly. The pork was cooked well but the skin wasn’t crispy enough and couldn’t be cut. But overall I’d give the roast 7/10. They also accidentally served me a Yorkshire pudding, when I’d told them I was allergic to eggs. They apologised quickly returned with a new plate of food.

So we went for a long over due family get together and had I had a roast pork belly. Was this worth the money? No, so the pork belly came as a rolled 1inch thick rolled up joint, which to me was reheated and dry, and the skin or rind what ever you wanna call it was soft and chewy, if it's a roast wouldn't the skin be crackling?? Also we in a better quality food place so when you ask for some apple sauce to go on the pork being served apple sauce from a pre bought jar (similar you get in a cake or donut) rather than homemade with a richer flavour is pretty piss poor to be honest. Our waiter was really good and was the only saving grace really from our visit, really disappointed as thought this was one of the better places to eat in Southampton.

A great place on the top floor of the Harbour Hotel. Grear views of Ocean Village and the Solent. Modern interior with good spacing between generously-sized tables. There is also a wrap-around terrace with plenty of casual seating for after-dinner drinks. The restaurant also shares the space with a bar, which we found pretty noisey when trying to have a nice quiet dinner, but this was the only down point. The food was very good. My wife had a chicken supreme and I had duck's breast, and both were excellently cooked, succulent and very tasty. The dessert's were also very nice too! The service is top notch. We were served by a lovely young lady (Laura) who was friendly, courtious, efficient and attentive. The other waiters were also very competant and polite, and we enjoyed speaking to all of them. All in all, a very good experience and we are likely to return when we've moved to Southampton permanently.

*updated for disappointing breakfast* I tried to give a better rating because I regularly frequent this location, but I’m going to stop eating here when all possible until they improve their vegan options. When there is no vegan cooked breakfast option (other than changing the smashed avocado to be without egg), I’ve got to be honest with my rating in that this restaurant is way behind others in Ocean Village for their consideration towards non-meat eaters. :( £22 for this sad overcooked toast with avocado & chilli flakes. 😞 *Dinner review* After discovering the head chef is vegan, I must ask how there is only 1 veggie option on the main restaurant menu of a 5-star hotel, other than salad, when you have such skills available within the kitchen? This isn’t a good leverage of knowledge or expertise and shows a lack of awareness into where the world is going. If I was a meat eater, like my partner, I’d have sent back the chewy, overcooked lamb rack. But since I’m not, and the salad was ok (though was my only option, other than gnocchi :( ), I have to say how unfortunate it is that they don’t seem to be leveraging the inside skills of their team to create a more innovative, inclusive menu. Every other menu for restaurants in Ocean Village have several options for vegan/veggie diners, knowing that’s what more people want, and even offering to make anything on the menu vegan, if required. Seems like Harbour management might need to follow the lead of their smaller local counterparts, as they don’t seem to be reflecting a sustainable, eco-friendly image through their menus. :(

Booked a table months prior for drinks on the terrace and a table in the restaurant after for 7 people. Waited 20 minutes to even be acknowledged after seating, let alone have the order taken. Overall a 45 minute wait for a round of drinks. Took our drinks inside to go to our table in the restaurant, to then be told by the host that they have over booked the restaurant and we had to sit in the bar for our meal, which was very loud with music and dirty tables. There was no apology offered, no clear explanations and when charging at least £25 per main and £14 a cocktail, this service was appalling. I was with my elderly grandparents and we specifically put in our booking to be in a quiet area, let alone the bar with blaring music. Luckily, the Jetty restaurant downstairs made up a table for us and they could not do enough for us. Night and day difference.

Saturday lunch was booked for 10 of us. The 3 pizzas came out after the mains. Drinks took over 10 mins arrive when re-ordered. The excuse of "there are alot of afternoon teas next door" is not something that should be passed to a customer and should have been better staffed. The restaurant was less than half full at the time. Pizza was decent when it arrived. I would avoid the lemon cheesecake again...the smattering of crumbs does not constitute a base of a cheese cake and there was no hint of ricotta, more akin to cold lemon custard piped from a large toothpaste tube.

10 of us booked the outside terrace for a Saturday lunch, but due to high wind we were sat inside, in the rather nice surroundings. The menu is primarily bar food with us choosing a variety of dishes. Two Calzones from the outdoor oven were decent, the Burrata was also well received. However, the other dishes such as Mackerel and the prawn sandwich were not great. The service and the great views went some way to make up for the inconsistent food. This is a nice venue for a drink and snack, but not somewhere I'd recommend for a good meal.

My wife and I stayed at this lovely hotel for my birthday, booking the Sunday dinner bed and breakfast package. We checked in around 3pm and was treated well my the great checking staff. Our room was clean and modern, with a small balcony overlooking the harbour and cruise ship dock. We spent an hour in the Spa facilities, there were limited loungers inside by the pool, but luckily the weather was OK enough for us to lay outside when not making use of the pool and various rooms. We had a cocktail in the Jetty bar downstairs, this was very nice and the host provided us with great service. We then headed up to the HarBar on 6th floor for another drink pre dinner. We were surprised to see “The Sunday Menu” for dinner, since I had called in advance and was told this was only for lunch and the standard menu would be available. This was a bit disappointing since the Sunday menu was limited to basic things as well as a roast, which isn’t something we’d usually choose when out for a fancy dinner. Anyway, we chose the roast, one beef and one pork belly. Both were rather fatty and nothing to write home about. For desert I had the cheese which made up for it 😀 We had some complication when checking out, since we needed to highlight the fact that the breakfast was covered in-part by our prepaid package, but this was sorted and the correct amount taken. All in all, we had a great stay and loved the place. If the menu was standard on a Sunday evening, we would have preferred it. Thanks!

We were at a family dinner to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and maybe we weren't lucky with the dishes, maybe we ate in different places but we weren't impressed, the dishes were rather average, definitely not wow, I eat duck quite often and it didn't impress me here, it was dry, even the chicken from the children's menu was too browned and dry and the children left it because they didn't like it, only the Brulee cream was very tasty. Reading the previous reviews, I felt a bit disappointed because I saw that guests celebrating a special occasion receive some sweet little thing with wishes to make the evening special, but as you can see, this is not the rule. The location is very good, but we won't remember anything about the menu like we did in other places. We expected something more at this price. The service was fine, not intrusive.

I have heard good things about HarBar on the 6th, so I was a little excited to experience eating and drinking here. I was especially keen to check out the views from the terrace. It was drizzly and cloudy on the day we arrived for lunch, but the views are still worth going for. We hadn't booked, but that wasn't a problem. We were welcomed and shown to a window table in the smaller dining area. This looks out onto the terrace and the Marina beyond. The cocktails were superb and beautifully presented, probably not the usual way to begin a meal, but I had been meaning to try the Martini Espresso for a long time. Our food was cooked to perfection, well presented, and the chef even made a small amount of homemade bearnaise sauce for me. The service was impeccable, attentive, unhurried, friendly. We could have moved to the lounge area after our meal. It looked very inviting with large sofas and soft lighting a lovely place to socialise and enjoy another expertly crafted cocktail, but we were booked to watch a film at Harbour Lights. There were groups of friends and a few couples enjoying the wonderful 'Tipsy Tea' by the time we left, another treat, for another time. I would love to return on a sunny afternoon and enjoy lounging on the gorgeous terrace. I hear that the Sunday lunches with live music are special too.

We've visited the HarBar since it opened & have put up with the menu hardly ever changing, as we enjoyed its location. HOWEVER, the standard of the food has gone down so much that it's barely edible, as well as the price of wine being crippling high (think London £££!) Not for the first time, we came here for afternoon tea and again it was beautiful and delicious. This time I requested plain ham sandwiches for my daughter which they were happy to accommodate. There’s plenty of food, very beautiful and creative sweet treats and big scones, more sweet stuff than savoury. The only reason for not giving 5 stars is that it’s a busy, quite noisy restaurant and I, personally, see an afternoon tea as a quieter, more chilled event. This was a Saturday at 16:15, not a time we’ve been before, so my bad! It was just me and my daughter, and people love this place for special occasions so quite a few groups in. I’m sure there are times when it’s quieter and would be something I’d consider investigating for another visit. It’s definitely worth going though!

We have just been to the HarBar restaurant for our Wedding Anniversary lunch. Apart from the Lamborghini parked outside the front of the hotel nothing oozed 5* luxury or service whether in reception or the restaurant. I’m afraid it will be the first and last visit for us to Southampton and back to Christchurch Harbour hotel in the future.

Impeccable service, the presentation of the dishes nice, the view good, the food itself not so good..

First time at this hotel and cannot recommend enough. Marina view hotel room was beautiful and classy. The free gin was a nice touch. Miriam at reception was super helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much and all the staff front of house were friendly, helpful and attentive. The gym had everything an avid gym goes would need and the spa area was relaxing. All facilities very conveniently immediately accessible by lift from the rooms. There is a cuisine restaurant on the lower floor but we ate dinner in The Harbour upstairs. Again waiting staff were super friendly and attentive. We had booked a table at Harbar on 6th and the amazing DJ Ross E B made sure we had one of the popular window tables near the DJ booth. The staff were attentive and we were served by a lovely young man running the Southampton marathon the next morning. DJ Ross E B kept us highly entertained with some banging House Music. The bar was busy and the ambience was spot on. Every bit of this hotel from the atmosphere, the staff and the decor was outstanding. After a restful night sleep we went back upstairs for a prepaid breakfast which we had added to our booking from Booking.com. However, despite paying for this it had not come through to the hotel. The staff were amazing and generously gave us the breakfast complimentary. What I would say is do not use Booking.com to book this hotel. It also said that parking was free which it wasn’t. It’s probably best to call the hotel and check the booking. The parking however was on site and a reasonable £16.70 for 24hrs and the staff were on hand to assist and offer help. The breakfast was a sea view with a buffet and cooked option which again was outstanding. Staff super attentive and friendly for a Sunday morning and go above and beyond to help and chat. Whoever trains the staff on customer service at this hotel is on point! The whole stay was faultless and would 100% stay again, just not through the booking provider. A lovely romantic, enjoyable, entertaining and beautiful night away.

Stopped off for a drink and a catch up with a friend while enjoying the waterside view of the boats coming in and out of the harbour.

After my fabulous experience on last year's birthday (see my previous 5 star review) I decided to go back to harbar for this year's birthday. How very different the experience was. We were placed on a table right next to a group of 4 people, when there were other table's available. There was no list for tea choices as you would usually get on an afternoon tea. We were simply asked if we'd like coffee, or tea. My cup was chipped and the water jug stained heavily. (Cup was replaced when I asked) The afternoon tea was nice enough, but sandwiches seemed a bit stale & wrap was soggy. Again just not as good as my last visit. There was no offer of more tea or hot water to top up our teapot. which is surely something that should be offered. At the end of our afternoon tea I could not get anyone's attention so I had to go up to reception to find someone to pay the bill. 3 members of staff were standing at the little pod. I discreetly said to the lady that printed my bill, that I was not happy to pay the service charge as things were not as good as before & we'd not been offered anymore tea. The lady who took payment went straight over to our waiter and told him! It was highly embarrassing as the atmosphere turned quickly sour. We scurried out feeling very awkward. To do this so obviously whilst the guests are still there is extremely unprofessional. I had paid my £60 bill and had every right to not pay an optional service charge on top of that if I choose!

Sadly this place has changed. We left the bar on 6th as the table we were offered was dirty and the seat covers were stained and wet. We went down to the bar in the jetty and again were disappointed. £14 plus service for a large glass of house white wine is too much - significantly more than premium hotels, which sadly this is not, and this is only for house wine. Also they no longer bring any nuts with the drinks. This place has sadly deteriorated.

We came for lunch & drinks. Ordered burger & fries, club sandwich & fries & Mac & cheese side. Burger & fries good. Bacon jam lovely. Club sandwich poor. Mac & cheese ok, primary flavour mustard. We’re divided if we’d recommend eating here! We do recommend ordering their cocktails (on & off menu) - these are very good.

I have been to the Harbar many times and there has been a few mistakes made but none of which really bothered me. But my last visit was absolutely appalling. The waiter was rude when I mentioned the pinot had changed, I asked for the bread to come out as a starter so we could chat and enjoy before the meal (it came out at the same time as the dinner), I had a large piece of bone in my duck pizza, the service was slow even though it wasn't busy. I think for a relatively expensive restaurant their standards have definitely slipped.

Terrible experience. The only decent food was the roast. The rest was beyond terrible considering the price. Kitchen staff shouting and cheering (at something? Football) My daughter’s pasta had other food accidentally mixed in. Just awful. I know it’s Morhers Day and standards slip but some tables were empty and plenty of serving staff. Almost £1000 spent on a meal you wouldn’t be happy paying a pub for. Avoid!

Great drinks and cocktails, good wine list. Service is generally good, depending on how busy the staff are. Food is abysmal, and averaged over 4 meals here, has achieved a position of worst restaurant in Southampton for me. Key points- Olives, mushy and on the turn. peanuts and scallops - a foolish mix, not well executed. Pea, leak and potato soup - unremarkable, sugary. Gnocchi - 30% garlic cloves, just silly, returned this dish. Guinea fowl - dry, laden with garlic, lack of herbs

1st takeaway from here. Things missing from commando chips. No onions whatsoever. Burgers were VERY DRY. 1 tiny slither of avo. Everything tasted of hot sauce and nothing else. . Very expensive for what we got. So dissapointed with this meal.

I ordered my cheeseburger and chips on the just eat app as I do 3-4 times per month, around 7pm delivery was estimated to be 8pm-8:20pm, I tracked my order and watched the delivery driver take a route that was way off being the fastest, the delivery actually stopped for nearly 10 minutes or more about 8:15pm on route to me, my order arrived at 8:40pm, when I opened my food in my kitchen most of my chips had been eaten, one of the burgers had been eaten and the 2nd burger had about a quarter to a third of it eaten. I called five guys straight away and complained I was told to complain via the APP I ordered from, I asked to speak to a manager because I was very unhappy and very hungry as I had waited so long for my food that had been mostly eaten, the person I spoke to said that he was the manager and couldn’t help me any more and hung up on me. 😡😡😡
