HarBAR on 6th in Southampton

The location is amazing, overlooking the marina and the view out to sea. The food was good although a little on the small side. The service was absolutely awful. The young man at the front desk spent more time chatting up the other staff that doing any work, the staff seemed untrained and a bit lost. The only saving grace was the chap who served our sweet (used to work on the cruise ships) who obviously was the only person who understood good customer service. Harbour Hotel....come on that was a poor experience!

Booked online Saturday morning for afternoon tea at 3pm that day. When we arrived we were sat down at a lovely table in the sunshine, we sat at our table for over 30 minutes without being served/asked if we would like a drink, despite the table of 6 women next to us being served/having food bought over to them multiple times, eventually I stopped one of the staff and asked if we could please be served. I then mentioned we had booked in for afternoon tea and were waiting to be served that too and was told that cant be right and was asked to show my booking confirmation, another member of staff then came over and told us you cant book afternoon tea on the day as they have to know numbers the night before, we completely understand this and it is fair enough, however it was on our booking notes so surely someone should have made us aware of this before sitting us down at our table? We settled for pizza and a club sandwich which were both lovely, however my fiancé then ordered another cappuccino when our food arrived, which must have been forgotten about as it didn't turn up. After 30 minutes of waiting for it we stopped a waiter and asked for the bill and asked if the cappuccino was coming, and if not to remove it from the bill. Another 10/15 minutes later it finally arrived with the bill. 45 minutes for a single Cappuccino?! No one came over to take payment so again we had to stop someone and ask them if we could pay. Would have loved to visit again to try the afternoon tea but after this weekends service I don't think we would bother sadly.

Came for an afternoon tea, it was well presented and a wide selection of sandwiches and sweet desserts. One of our party had allergies and this was catered for. Views are stunning.

A la llegada - a tiempo, pero la mesa no está lista para casi 15 minutos! Entonces se puso a la mesa y no se instaló en absoluto - ¡ponga en la esquina cerca de donde la gente fuma! Pedí nuestra comida - pedí pizza sin chili pero salí con chili puesta - así que se la llevaron y casi habíamos terminado la nuestra cuando ella tuvo su comida entregada - pedí gelatina de tocino de lado - pero vine incluido, pero no me molesté en decir nada y esperar. No había atención - Nadie comprobó si todo estaba bien - tuvimos que subir al bar para obtener la cuenta. En general no es una buena experiencia esta vez. Hemos estado un par de veces, pero este fue el peor servicio que hemos recibido?

Today we visited HarBar on 6th for my husbands birthday lunch. We sat in the restaurant. I ordered the sea food burger which wasn’t to my taste, nothing wrong with the burger itself but I just didn’t find it enjoyable (I thought the seafood would have been fresher than it was). I should have ordered something different - so was totally my error. However, the waiter (sorry I didn’t take his name) came to check how our food was to which we said it was fine, but he later was observant enough to see I wasn’t eating my meal so he came over to check if something was wrong. I explained the above and he proceeded to go above to try and offer me another meal to give me a great experience. Just writing this as I feel the attention to detail and service was exemplary. Your kindness was appreciated. Thank you

Such a disappointment. I booked a breakfast last weekend for 10:30 am as a treat to my mum who has had a really hard time of recent. We waited 20 minutes not to be asked if we wanted any drinks so had to interrupt a waitress who was extremely rude to us and told us she would get to us when she had time. She eventually came over and said do you want some drinks then at which point I just turned round and said no, absolutely not we do not want to eat here at all. We won’t be returning to this restaurant and it’s rude staff.

Visited for a family meal last night, superb location and view, matched equally by quality of food, drinks and service. Will definitely return very soon.

A delightful restaurant on the sixth floor, would recommend the terrace especially on a sunny day. Great views across the Solent. Great food and service would highly recommend the fish burger.

Great views, limited menu but food quality good but very small portions, particularly on my crispy pork and Asian salad starter which only had two small pork pieces, so not at all impressed with that but salad was excellent.

Fabulous restaurant in a really lovely location with an incredible view. The atmosphere was vibrant and the food very good. The staff were very welcoming and attentive, a huge thank you to Ethan! We will definitely be back!

Got a voucher - afternoon tea for two. The savoury tier tastes like M&S or Tesco arranged on a plate. The sweets were sickeningly sweet, make out of cheap icing sugar. Didn't eat much, my boyfriend did and felt sick from the sweets. The scones were good, as promised just good scones. Point is I wouldn't waste £46 on it.

I booked a table with the intention of eating in the restaurant area but, due to a private function, we had to eat in low informal chairs and tables in the lounge area. Also the music was too loud. Not impressed! This layout maybe ok for snacks and sandwiches etc but not for a gourmet 3 course meal! The food was very good but I would think twice before booking again!

Great place for drinks but… Came with family ordered 3 gluten free pizza. 3 different pizzas out of 4 or five choices were THE WORST pizzas in my life. Came raw. The flavour is oily and awful just no taste and super small for that prise. . I just felt that they have never tried by them self’s. We have received pizza in 1.20 minutes. It’s the first bed review in my life. On the other hand my dad had pork and it was amazing. I think that they have to do something about gluten free base. 60£ waisted Sorry for that but the actual place is good

Just recently celebrated my retirement with afternoon tea for 18 🎉 it was amazing from start to finish. All the staff worked so hard to make it perfect. Johnathan made sure everything went to plan and I couldn’t be happier with the service. I’d highly recommend the afternoon tea thank you x

Awful service but beautiful place. We waited 60’ to have lunch although having a reservation with clear instructions of what kind of table we wanted. Waiters had to be chased for their service although bill was fast as a thunder with naturally a full service charge.

We had Afternoon Tea in Harbar on 6th on Saturday, and while all the food looked amazing, we felt all the sweets tasted the same. There seemed to be a cherry theme in all the sweets which wasn't to our personal taste, we would have preferred if they all tasted different. While the service and atmosphere were good, we were extremely disappointed that we couldn't have a drink at the bar after our Afternoon Tea. We had travelled a very long way and to be told we couldn't sit down and enjoy a drink after spending alot of money on Afternoon Tea was very disappointing. There were plenty of seats available and when we went to sit down, we were told abruptly that we couldn't sit anywhere and we would have to stand at the bar. We decided to leave and unfortunately won't be returning to Harbar on 6th.

Quiet on a Monday night but nice atmosphere for a couple of drinks, sour dough and Fish and Chips.

My family had a breakfast table pre booked, on arrival and on time we were shown to a table that had not be cleared or cleaned from the previous group although the restuarant had many spare tables, bearing in mind we had pre booked the breakfast by the time we had cutlery on the table we were then informed the breakfast buffet was closing and hot food would not be available and the cold section was also closing by the time we got to the buffer area most of it had been cleared, back at our table we had already ordered coffee only to be informed none of the coffee machines were working any where in the hotel but someone did go to the Tesco express around the corner and brought us back 15 minutes later a tepid coffee in paper cups? They did muster up some food but I have had far better in a high street cafe, certainly very disappointed, very expensive for what we received, we did complain to the business only to receive a very poor response. Far better venues in the areas which we now use. 01/03/25 further to your response I can confirm it was your venue on the 19th November 2024 we made you aware on the day when paying the bill and followed up with a written complaint, I am not surprised you are not aware or have no recollection of the complaint a similar pattern to the19th and the Tesco express coffee in paper cups.

A company early evening team social was held here. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff to deal with and accommodate. The food, the service, the staff; and above all else, the atmosphere and views were excellent. A great place to spend sundown!

We occasionally use this restaurant when we have visitors because of the splendid views. Last night was a disappointment. The food was rather bland, even though it looked inviting. The biggest disappointment, however, was the service, which eventually became no service!. Eventually I searched for someone so that we could pay our bill. A rather grumpy male waiter explained that that he had been busy elsewhere in the restaurant, although it didn't seem that busy. As we left we passed a small group of staff chatting happily at the restaurant reception. As I have commented previously, this attractive restaurant needs improved management.

Excellent afternoon tea which was a Christmas Present from family , very nice food and great service, we will be back again.

Beautiful location and friendly staff but dinner marred by very loud music provided by a live DJ. It was honestly like trying to have a dinner in a nightclub. Reservation was for 7pm on a Saturday so a reasonably early hour and yet the music was already very loud. It was impossible to have a conversation at our table for a family dinner to celebrate a birthday. We asked to move further from the music but the restaurant was unable to accommodate us. If one of your group has ASD/ADHD, consider whether this is the venue for you on a Saturday evening - music far too loud to make the environment comfortable.

They really want you to book a table to eat and if you don’t you have to stand at the bar. Service at the bar is very slow as all the bartenders are mixing cocktails etc - curiously they were all male. Can’t women mix cocktails? After waiting forever our bartender was very efficient & knowledgeable. Trendy place - not cheap. The restaurant on the ground floor is the best in Southampton. The upstairs bar has indoor & outdoor areas with sweeping views of unattractive car parks and Itchen Bridge but then you don’t come to Soton for its architecture. Worth a visit.

We had an amazing Christmas party last Saturday at the HarBAR on 6th! DJ Rosseb was absolutely on fire, spinning incredible tunes all night. The atmosphere was electric, filled with great vibes. Definitely looking forward to coming back soon!

Such a fun bar to meet up with friends, delicious ‘Double’ Bloody Mary’s, a great V&T, unctuous olives, crispy popped corn & pork scratchings. Good service, great views over the marina, thoroughly recommend!

We had an absolutely Christmas themed afternoon tea with delicious sweet treats as well as savoury sandwiches and - of course - fluffy tasty scones with cream and jam.

I’ll start by saying the staff were very nice and professional for meals (breakfast and evening meal) but when it came to drinks in the bar there need to be another 4 bar staff/servers. The bar service was SLOW. Breakfast was nice but the continental was limited. Change the coffee you serve! It’s terrible.The staters for the evening meal ranged from good to very bland. The mains ranged from bad to sent back . Duck was rubbery and the fat had not been rendered at all, was 5mm thick. The monkfish did not work as meal at all and was sent back.. now .. the bar! What a waste of an evening. Slow slow slow service. No parties or big crowds of people to crowd the bar so don’t understand slow service. If you are going to set up as a cocktail bar you need a lot of bar staff as cocktails are labour intensive. Loud one trick dj in the corner and the place was full of what looked like ‘working girls’ …. 2 drinks and left.

The afternoon tea was fabulous and the service was very efficient. We were meeting family but, they had a DJ playing in the bar area and the loud music could be heard in the dining area therefore, we had a shout to be heard! It was a real shame as we had already asked to move tables and it was still noisy at the other end of the room. Our chilled afternoon tea was anything but relaxed and I wouldn’t go again! Why doesn’t the music start at 6pm and not 3pm??

Last night I went out with my friends for my 20th birthday and had the BEST time! The vibes were immaculate. Very boujee but very fun. The staff are great, amazing attention to detail and very professional. The dj Ross E B is fab! Music definitely made the night… We got up, danced and had the best time. Nights like that need to happen more often!!

I booked the HarBar for Afternoon tea for my birthday on 2 Nov with some family. This has become a bit of a tradition now. Tea, food and service didn't disappoint as always. Love the little handmade edible desserts. Didn't get my special birthday treat this year, despite me telling reception that it was my (actual) birthday when they asked. Love the atmosphere, the view and friendly staff. Will be back!

If there's a better destination for Sunday lunchtime in Southampton than this?.....we haven't found it !

Disappointed, went out for a birthday meal for my partner for 6 people, all but one of us thought the food was bland and very average. Chicken supreme is like something you'd get from a cheap Christmas dinner a rolled up sausage of chicken. Duck was dry and fish flavourless. We asked for a bottle of sparkling rose which was £72 and they gave us 3 glasses of sparkling rose. Not what you'd expect when you ask for a bottle. Starters were okay but very small. All in all it was a very average meal we paid £450 for starters/mains/drinks for 6 people (£50 service charge) and it wasn't worth anywhere near this. I would expect this kind of food in a cheap pub not in a high end restaurant. The restaurant and setting is nice but it is not worth it at all.

i have been there before. No one aswers my calls. No comments are made about the food. Waiters skimmy away shamelessly. you would assume the customers are drunk but yet the waiting staff challenge that statement. When trying to switch reservations the staff simply don't repsond.

This rooftop bar is located on the top of a hotel. The atmosphere is really nice with views across the harbour and ocean village. Recommend coming here for some food but I would say don’t have too high hopes on all dishes. Service is okay but they don’t bother topping up your wine if you order a bottle. our waiter spilled it a bit which is okay but it wasn’t busy at that time. Overall a lovely experience and nice location. I had a tropic negroni but it didn’t particularly stand out. Along with a chicken supreme which lacked flavour and was instead boiled and covered in chilli as there was no flavour to it. Could be better but the best part was the wine 🍷 3 hours free parking for guests. Would come back for drinks.

I had an extremely disappointing experience at HarBAR on 6th for my birthday meal. Despite booking weeks in advance, my table was given away to walk-ins. The staff were incredibly rude and dismissive, making no effort to resolve the situation. We waited at the bar for 40 minutes without being served, and when finally seated, we had to ask for menus ourselves and wait 30 minutes before anyone came to take our order. On top of that, we were charged for drinks we didn’t order, and when I raised the issue, the staff were rude and dismissive. For a "luxury" venue, the lack of professionalism and respect was shocking. Would not recommend, and I’ll definitely be sharing this experience further. — A very disappointed customer

Looked lovely but the bar decided to shut at 12.30 even though they should be open till 2am

Great location, fabulous views, good food, excellent service. What's not to like? Comfortable tables and sofa areas, balconies with table seating if you still need to smoke or vape, prices a little high but it keeps it exclusive in the main. Would hugely benefit from being a piano bar rather than a DJ station for music which can be a bit invasive in volume, especially if you're not feeling a genre vibe. All round though, a smart venue, and a well deserving 8/10.

The atmosphere was lovely, and the service was friendly. However, when we first sat down, we had to get up to find someone for assistance, though the staff remained pleasant throughout. The food was decent but not outstanding. The prosciutto pizza was tasty, but a few more slices of prosciutto would have improved it. The cheese was good, and the crust, baked in an outdoor stove oven, was decent, though a couple of slices lacked prosciutto. The beef tataki, while flavorful, wasn’t truly tataki—it was a small, medium-rare steak, thicker than the typical thin-sliced, seared style. The fried onions were stale, but the ponzu sauce and greens were a nice addition.

Booked this for our special wedding anniversary. When we arrived we were seated at a table in a room that looked nothing like the pictures on social media with the afternoon tea! The space was like a noisy tea room, no ambience or lavish decor. If I'd have known where we would be seated id have not booked. I asked the waitress who explained afternoon tea isn't served in the other part of the restaurant (the lovely looking part thats advertised !) and she understood the frustration and felt a bit awkward I think. The afternoon tea itself was beautifuly presented - no issues there but I have to say we were again disappointed, not enough savoury atall, its basically chocolate eddible stuff which made us feel very sick & uncomfortable which as big afternoon tea fans was unusual. The chocolate didn't taste very quality in my opinion either. A bit like the cheap Christmas calender chic you get. Anyway we were very disappointed & sad that we didn't get to experience the restaurant as the pictures on social media shows.

It was so disappointing. We have always recommended this to people because we live in OV and has been here many times. We went here on 07/09 for a birthday lunch. But from the start they had the coffee wrong. Then they started moving chairs around us which made us not hear each other due to the noise. They were dragging them all around. Then when the mains was served, the battered fish still had skin on it. I asked the server if the fish and chips really come like that and he said it does which is weird for a fish fillet. We have been here so many times and was our favourite restaurant but after this, maybe not anymore. We might come back for afternoon tea but not for mains anymore.

Impromptu visit here for a Sunday roast. Excellent service, delicious food and good views even on a bit of a grey cloudy day. Will definitely return to try the other delicious sounding dishes on the menu!

Absolutely delightful. I took my daughter here as a treat for finishing her exams and this place is honestly one of the best afternoon teas I have ever had. It was super creative, full of surprises and plentiful, we had to take a goody box home. The staff were polite and attentive but gave you space to enjoy your time. The views are exceptional here too. I cannot wait to return, thank you so much for an incredibly beautiful day.

The service was average, and the food didn’t come at the same time. Last person didn’t get their food until 10/15 mins after the others. Views were good but definitely expected more from the food and service.

The host at reception (Adam I think...) was fabulous. 5*. I'd booked to be in the bar not realising the music would be far too loud for any conversation, so I asked if we could go into the restaurant. He tried but was only able to offer us a booth in the bar which, actually, was perfect. The service of the waiting staff was good and they were friendly. However, the food was very average. The soft shell crab taco came battered which wasn't mentioned on the menu and it was pretty tasteless. There were no broccoli florets in the smoked salmon pasta, only tough stalks and the pasta felt like it'd been microwaved. Apparently the fish and chips and the beef tataki were good.

This was very disappointing. We went for an afternoon tea given as a gift by family. Afternoon tea is a traditional, quiet cultured experience, enjoyed with traditional English food in a quiet and pleasant environment. So, five minutes wait for the lift, nobody around to advise. Greeted pleasantly in bar and shown to table by the window. The noise was so loud, it was impossible to have a conversation. The waiter was helpful but it was very hard to hear him as he spoke softly. He offered some water...more about this later. We asked him about the tea as this was our first visit here and we were already unimpressed by the atmosphere. He was as helpful as he could be and brought us pots of tea. Then came the food. Not much of the savoury was to our liking, but that's a question of taste. There was certainly enough food, but the large scones were very dry and contained too much bicarb. I know it's heresy, but there was no butter. Yes we could have asked, but getting the waiters attention was not easy. They are understaffed. We finished what we wanted and asked for the rest in a box to take away. They had run out of boxes and brought one small one and a small piece of foil. We had handed over our gift token. We were stopped at the lift by the waiter who told us we had to pay extra for the water. £5.59 for a bottle of water which had been offered to us at the start. I'm not sure why anyone would want to go here. It's a very mediocre place all round and to risky for a really special occasion. This one is off our list.

The waiting staff were excellent and attentive, I was offered tea 3 separate times! it’s a lovely restaurant with beautiful views. It was sadly let down by the breakfast which was dry and flavourless, and the buffet selection somewhat limited. I’d actually had a better breakfast at a worse and lower ranking hotel the night prior. The roast I had on Sunday was ok, visually looked great, lovely glaze on the gravy but the gravy needed more flavour and some of the vegetable dishes didn’t taste right, red cabbage compote was too sweet and not balanced, and the roast potatoes were dry and not heated properly. The pork was cooked well but the skin wasn’t crispy enough and couldn’t be cut. But overall I’d give the roast 7/10. They also accidentally served me a Yorkshire pudding, when I’d told them I was allergic to eggs. They apologised quickly returned with a new plate of food.

Went with family for lunch and drink. Everyone seemed happy with food. Register your car at HarBar and get 3 hours free parking.

I had a wonderful breakfast at the Southampton marina, made even more enjoyable by our server, Ana. She spoke to us in Portuguese, which made the ordering experience so much smoother and more comfortable. Her beautiful manners and attention to detail were impressive. Despite our group being in a hurry, Ana expertly sped up the service without sacrificing quality. Her warm and efficient service truly made our morning. Highly recommended!

So we went for a long over due family get together and had I had a roast pork belly. Was this worth the money? No, so the pork belly came as a rolled 1inch thick rolled up joint, which to me was reheated and dry, and the skin or rind what ever you wanna call it was soft and chewy, if it's a roast wouldn't the skin be crackling?? Also we in a better quality food place so when you ask for some apple sauce to go on the pork being served apple sauce from a pre bought jar (similar you get in a cake or donut) rather than homemade with a richer flavour is pretty piss poor to be honest. Our waiter was really good and was the only saving grace really from our visit, really disappointed as thought this was one of the better places to eat in Southampton.
