The Golden Pheasant in Peterborough

I really wanted to have a positive review to write, but sadly it was really underwhelming. We booked for Sunday lunch for a special celebration for quite a large booking and we made our reservation weeks in advance and also pre ordered. We arrived and we had to promt the waitress twice to order our drinks, she then came to take our food order, but explained we had pre ordered already. The waitresses were polite and explained that the sharing 800g rib of beef was unavailable, so something else Was chosen. Unfortunately two of the main meals came out with no sides, followed by couple more mains and we had to wait for Sides/Yorkshires. Everything came out at different times and our meat was getting cold, so we ended up eating most of the meat without the rest of our meal complete. We shared two Yorkshires between 6 adults, which didn’t seem enough. We ordered dessert, but everything was just slow and we really wanted to have good things to say, especially as friends of ours traveled from Nottingham specifically, but we were just underwhelmed and disappointed by our meals unfortunately.

We have been to, and eaten, at The Golden Pheasant a few times now since its reopening with new owners. Everything is settling in brilliantly. The staff are all so friendly and welcoming. We have eaten there a few times, enjoying from the Pub Classics and the Specials menus. The Sunday sharing roasts are truly fantastic. We ate last Thursday night at their speciality Steak Night and were not disappointed. Huge compliments to the new Chef, Max. The fillet steak and choice of different sides were outstanding. Keep up the excellent work, it’s great to see this beautiful village pub coming back to its glory again. Also, keep an eye out for the Nine Bridges Beer Festival to be held there again next year, superb event with excellent ales on offer.

Visited on Thursday evening. I would like to put Good on the ratings but it’s either very good or average . I had the beer battered cod and triple cooked chips and it was lovely and the fish looked super fresh and was an enjoyable eat . My friend had the other fish dish which he also enjoyed . Having looked at the online menu prior to my visit , I was very much looking forward to the apple tart tatin with crème anglaise , only to be told it was not on the menu that evening . So my point is , please can you either update your online menu so we can see what is actually available or state that it is a sample menu . I truly hope you guys make a success of the pub as a food venue , but ultimately it’s about bums on seats and I feel that will be achieved with a slightly more varied menu and good quality “pub food” .

The venue had just re-opened the day of our visit, very busy and lovely friendly atmosphere. I had booked a table of 10 for a surprise lunch for my partners birthday. The staff were fantastic in keeping the other members hidden away until we arrived and played along with the surprise. We were even given a complimentary bottle of fizz to celebrate. Food was absolutely delicious, we all opted for the roast option.

Our friends had invited us up to go to the Nine Bridges charity beer festival at the Golden Pheasant and suggested we have dinner there too. This was our first visit for food and we were not disappointed. I started with lobster bisque and home made focaccia - delicious. My main was battered cod, triple cooked chips and mashed peas, the fish was cooked to perfection as were the chips. All of our food was freshly prepared to order and the servings were generous, so much so that we couldn't fit in a pudding. Price were good too and the staff were lovely and efficient even though it was busy with the beer festival. The beer festival itself was a great success and many a decent pint was downed. Hopefully we'll be back again soon.

Four of us came for dinner on a Thursday evening. The food was very good and we would certainly visit again and tell friends about our experience. We had a selection of sharing nibbles which were all very tasty. Mains, two of us chose the chicken and one had the crab and prawn tagliatelli and the other steak. All meals were very well cooked and presented. Looking at the website I see they do offer a Sunday lunch and also breakfasts. The menus for those look great and we will look forward to trying them out. Lovely garden area where you can sit and space for children to play. We will be back! Thanks.

Best Sunday roast I've ever had. Attention to detail, amazing taste to the sirloin, really friendly and efficient service. Excellent wine choices, really special lager and fine real ale. We've booked up already for another meal.

We visited on a Saturday lunchtime… as we know it has new owners, I had steak bavette and my wife had a 8 oz beef burger the service was very good ,the meal was quite acceptable the steak was cooked to perfection ( I ordered rare ) and my wife said her burger was good we will be back however it would be good to have a bit more choice on the menu

Had a lovely couple of meals here since the new owners have taken over. The food was wonderful and staff friendly. Will definitely be visiting again. They have a kids play area, outside and inside dining and easy parking.

Booked a table (on line) for three. We sat in the main restaurant. Lunch was delicious I can recommend the lamb - so tender and tasty. I selected Apricot Frangipane Tart for second course. Very enjoyable lunch. Thank you to chef.

Great Sunday lunch, had a 2 course Fathers Day menu on (we hadn’t made the connection :-), huge portions, great beef, cauli cheese and lots of veg and gravy. Lots of lamb but a little too thinly sliced so had dried out a bit (as we were last in for lunch). Had a bit of a wait for dessert as behind a large family party, but probably welcomed the breathing space TBH Pavlova bit heavy on the cream and light on berries but lush meringue nonetheless. Decent price for what we had, definitely recommend it!

Visited here with my daughter as we were staying in Peterborough for the night. The food was amazing. There was only 1 person serving, however, any drinks that were ordered came very quickly. The barman was also really happy, pleasant and funny. It was a nice atmosphere with a real fire.

Brilliant food, my beer battered fish was one of the best I have had. Service was excellent, we had two small children with us, no problems to them at all. Just a shame the crazy golf was closed, but this is a more seasonal thing.

A lovely welcome and fabulous service. Thank you for being so accommodating with gluten-free. The GF Yorkshire Puddings were great. We all really enjoyed our Sunday Lunch!

A warm welcome but a tad cold in restaurant, also needs a bit of ambiance. But the food there was great, there were 6 of us two had sea bass which was divine, maybe another veg (personal choice) and a tad more sauce. One had pie he said delicious and the gravy fab! Had extra gravy… Pizza nice and thin good. Duck great would have liked another veg rather than just one. Fish and chips huge, again personal choice maybe a choice of side rather than peas. Two brownie and ice cream deserts again really good. This restaurant is great just a little on expensive side to be a regular visit, we went for birthday treat. 🥳

First time coming here and really enjoyed the food and the service was amazing! Highly recommend and will be back again soon

we had an absolute blast at the festive bottomless brunch! we stayed for the vinyl night too which was great fun! we laughed and danced the night away. the food was delicious the service was outstanding. would highly recommend. such a lovely pub! thanks guys! xx

Had lovely lamb roast and haddock and chips. Gravy is to die for and roasts are amazing! Deffo the best roast around.

There are so many positives with this beautiful place. First off all the staff were amazing and so friendly. The food is unreal, starters, main and pudding all fantastic. Came here for mum and dad's 50th anniversary, and we had such a brilliant night. I will definitely be visiting this little gem soon

Popped in for a Sunday Roast and we were met with a lovely roaring fire, nice surroundings and a very friendly greeting. The very quickly served roast lamb and roast beef we had between us were perfect, with more than enough to eat. Finish off with fudge cake and treacle pudding. Will definitely be returning sooner, rather than later

Visited here for special bottomless brunch with my hubby and it was a treat and a half. Beautifully presented delicious, homemade and carefully made sandwiches and cakes. Lovely selection and plenty too. Served up on lovely crockery by friendly welcoming hosts. Surroundings were warm and comfortable. Will definitely be recommending to family and friends.

Great venue to Eat, drink, socialise. Had a lovely antipasti sharing platter. My hubby had taken some bread and cheese of it before I took the photo. Had the best fish & chips the tartar sauce was lovely. My hubby has the Steak pie every time we go. It’s the best he has ever tasted. The service is brilliant. The landlord Stuart can’t do enough for you. His wife Kirstene does the cooking. Proper grub. Lovely and clean warm and welcoming. I mean look at the beautiful fire below.

Great pub and a really warm welcome. Food was served promptly and was hot and delicious. Staff were friendly and checked everything was ok for us. Prices were extremely reasonable. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at this lovely pub and would happily recommend it to family and friends.

Recently visited the golden pheasant for a bottomless brunch with friends. We had a lovely experience from start to finish as always. This venue does not disappoint. The drinks were consistently topped up, tasty food and a family friendly atmosphere! I will definitely be coming back for another bottomless brunch very soon!

We had the roast which was hot and potatoes and veg good but roast lamb🤔 no it was definitely beef!! When questioned they said the juices from beef and lamb mixed to make gravy.

Bottomless brunch was amazing . Prosecco was constantly topped up food was really good service. Would definitely recommend going. Staff was really friendly and a lovely warm atmosphere.

Hadn’t been in here for about 10 years, but after taking my mum out for dinner on her birthday, I’ll definitely be back. All four meals were perfect and the steak was the best I’ve had for a long time. Great service too. Highly recommended.

Lovely environment, very tastefully decorated and friendly helpful service. Would have been five stars except one portion of chicken was overcooked making it very chewy and dry. The sauce was delicious and it was a treat to have fresh vegetables and potatoes.

Been here on a regular basis for area meetings. Popped down for a drink with my brother who is recently out of hospital and requires a wheelchair to get about. Made extremely welcome on all occasions and they did all they could to accommodate us.

We had the biggest and the best fish and chips ever tonight. Stuart and Kirstene are great hosts. All of the food is excellent and we can definitely recommend this pub/restaurant. We will be back

Went to the Golden Pheasant told for Sunday dinner. It was lovely. From walking in the door being greeted by Stuart the land Lord and dinner being cooked by his wife Kirstene. It was really lovely. Had dinner then went and sat in the beer...

I visited for the first time today, my nan lives nearby and enjoys the food here, the roasts were lovely and so were the desserts, the outdoor seating is really nice and the children loved playing in the playground area! We will be back 😊

This is our regular, Go to, for a good value and great quality meal. The pub itself, is nice, nothing fancy, but the seabass is the best ever... and we have eaten this dish all over the country. It will not disappoint

Absolutely can't recommend this place enough. Hosts Stuart and kirstene so friendly, welcoming and accomodating. Very comfortable and clean. We have eaten here many times and the food is always freshly cooked and delicious. Lovely relaxing outside patio in summertime too.

As a large family we mostly ordered the lamb and Beef roasts. I was really disappointed with what came. The beef looked like it was from a packet and the lamb was so thinly sliced and with no taste which is super disappointing especially Lamb...

Simply the best handmade authentic vegetable pizza you could ever have. Deffinately coming again. Stuart and Kirsten are fabulous, Service is fab, food great, and sitting next to an open coal fire with a pint of real ale.

Not the first time visiting Golden Pheasant - it’s a favourite with our family. Had to come back for the pie. So tasty, good amount of filling. Nice Gravy! We’ll definitely be back again. Good service. Highly recommended!

Staff were welcoming and the food was delicious. Ordered fish and chips and was made to perfection. We treated ourselves to a cocktail and it was fabulous. Will definitely be visiting again.

Although the pub was busy the staff were very friendly and attentive. We both had the roast beef, which was cooked well and tender, as was the vegetables, a nice touch was the gravy came in a gravy boat so you could put on as much as you liked. The outside of the pub looked as if there was a lot of character, although the interior did not reflect this. Overall the food was good, the service was good and it was not over priced.

We went for lunch today and wanted to sit outside in the park area as our children were playing they had no problem in bringing the food over to us, very friendly and had a little laugh with one of the ladies. We ordered the vegetarian pizza which was so lovely not greasy or fatty the chips were lovely and crispy. We also ordered the sea bass and WOW it was amazing so so tasty and we ordered chicken nuggets for the kids which were lovely and golden and crispy and chunky well done to the chef. We also let the kids play on the crazy golf and I love how much fun it looks with the cute little animals the kids loved playing it and price was good too. We can't wait to hopefully have our wedding here if we can secure the date. thank you for such a lovely experience today.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The greeting was good. The drinks were nice and presented well . However, the only thing that let them down was the food. We had the pil pil prawn and this was dreadful. It was 4/5 slightly anemic prawns laying in fat with raw chilli and prawn in. The mains were the burger and fish which were ok. Overall a nice place to go , lovely setting , good drinks but the food let them down

A Tuesday lunch. Just 2 of us and we had the steak and the plaice. Absolutely delicious, John was very welcoming and we had a really good funny time. I can't reccomend this place highly enough and will certainly be going back.Beautiful clean building too.

This is a gem of a place, the staff invite you in and make you feel very welcome. They take time to talk with you, deliver excellent table service and the food is delicious. We love the Northern Soul background music and ambiance. Great people, great food and attentive service. No surprise it’s busy and well deserved to be. Try it out, I doubt you’ll be disappointed.

We stopped here for lunch whilst on holiday at nearby Landal Rockingham Forest Park. There was a lovely peaceful outside area and plenty of parking available.We ordered drinks and I asked for an IPA, which they did not have so settled for a nice pint of Doombar. When the drinks arrived the waiter (Owner) also bought out a taster of the nearest they had to an IPA called Atlantic, a nice touch and also a very nice ale! For our mains we ordered fish & chips, and steak & ale pie. Both dishes were very nice, the fish was well cooked with a light crispy batter. The steak & ale pie was excellent and full of tender chunks of steak. For desserts we had strawberry cheesecake and Etton mess. Both dishes were very tasty, the strawberries were excellent. The only slight negative was half way through our meal a food delivery truck arrived and parked in the area opposite where we were sat and left the noisy engine running which spoiled the lovely peaceful ambience. However it was only there for 10 minutes or so and supplies need to be delivered. The service was friendly and efficient throughout even when it became busy very quickly. We had a very enjoyable lunch and it was great to see an independent pub / restaurant so busy.

Have visited before when staying locally & booked an outside table for lunch last weekend. We called ahead to say running a little late as walk took longer than expected. When we arrived we had a table in the shade with water provided for our dogs which was a lovely touch. There are pubs that have adapted in covid times ! All we can say is wow for this one in terms of their outside area - the bar definitely raised! Just beautiful & sensible system in place for ordering / toilet access etc. Everywhere spotless & food was gorgeous with quick service even though it was dead busy. Our waitress was super attentive & gave good drinks recommendations. Will defo be back next time in area was just lovely - well done could see it’s a well run ship!

What a fantastic country pub. The host was professional, friendly and extremely welcoming. The food was fabulous and the service was fantastic. Visited as a family of 7 to this sleepy village location. Everyone was catered for which included 2 vegetarians and a vegan. Stunning home made food which was piping hot and presented perfectly. The landlord is amazing with a great personality and warm, friendly manner. Do give this place a try, you won’t regret it !!! Will back very soon !! Thank you .

We popped in for an evening meal on a Thursday, we had the fish and chips and pizza which were both lovely and cooked to perfection. The staff were very attentive and the atmosphere was lively. It is always busy which is a testament to the food and staff - will definitely be back!

We really enjoyed our evening meal at this lovely, welcoming pub/restaurant. The hosts Johnno and Kirstene were very helpful and friendly. Our food was excellent, the steaks were cooked perfectly. We visited on a Wednesday evening and it was pleasantly busy and had a great atmosphere. It was lovely to find a great restaurant on the outskirts of Peterborough and we would recommend it to anyone visiting this area.

First time eating here and the food is to die for!! I had a burger and chips , I've never had food like it before! Me and my family felt really comfortable with the covid measures In place to and the staff were amazing and quick service! Would highly recommend to anyone .

Back again and cannot fault the staff or food here. The landlady does all the cooking from scratch and it’s fab, fresh and tasty, definitely 5 stars. The staff and landlord are very attentive and regularly check if everything is ok or if you’d like more drinks etc. Loads of seating space outside when the weather is good and plenty of parking. Keep up the good work, we’ll be back again very soon!

We went out for our anniversary meal, plus points beautiful location outside due to Covid. As we got there owner said he was closing at 7, we arrived at 6. I had burger, very plain & boring. I had salad with it which was good. Hubby had steak okay. Considering the price I would expect some beautiful relish or onion rings as would my husband. Value for money very poor. It will be a very long time till I go back and spend my hard earned cash of £50 for two main courses a red wine and shandy!! Very disappointing...

Meeting family in the middle of where we all live so didn't know the place. They were very friendly and helpful when I arranged to book. Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient and the food was excellent... they were right - they said their steak and ale pie was the best I'd have and it was! Thank you for making our evening pleasurable.

We went for an evening meal at the Golden Pheasant, (when we were allowed to in December!) and had a absolutely lovely evening. Everything was so safe and the food was absolutely delicious - I had fish, and my husband had the pie - would really recommend both. Also Johno and Kirstene regularly do a Facebook live music night (soul/funk/northern soul etc) which is brilliant - Please do another soon!

Mark and I want to say a massive thank you to all the staff at the golden pheasant. It was a last minute decision to move our venue as sadly our original one had to close. We were recommended the golden pheasant from a friend and we couldn’t have wished for a better place! They went above and beyond to make our day wonderful! The staff were friendly and welcoming, always popping in and seeing if we were okay, and were so quick and efficient if we needed something. Could not fault their service at all. The food, was Devine! The presentation was beautiful and it was all so delicious! Mark and I are so grateful to John, his wife and his crew! Thank you again and we will visit again soon xx

Have been here a number of times and me and the family highly rate the food its lovely. Staff are super friendly and the grounds are well kept and child friendly. Excellent in the summer months. one of our fave places to go.

We love coming for meals with family in “normal” times - last visited in September for my parents wedding anniversary, my nephews love it too as they can go outside & play while we enjoy after dinner drinks . Thank you for cheering us up through lock down with the DJ sets - the one today was fab - can’t wait to actually visit again but until then KTF ( to those that know)

Great pub, great food and the staff are very friendly lots of outdoor seating and playground for kids. The quiz nights and vinyl nights playing soul ska and funk are very entertaining.

This is our favourite pub and restaurant, and whilst we can't go there in person, Johnno and Kirstene have once again kept us all going with their lockdown vinyl afternoon. We can't recommend this place enough ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We booked a table for a late Sunday lunch as we were in the area sightseeing and walking. Staff were perhaps a bit pushed due to how popular the place clearly is, table service puts an extra strain on any busy pub, but this is no complaint, all staff were attentive and friendly and helpful. Selection of ales, open fire. From the Sunday menu my wife had the roast lamb - very nice, well-presented, all trimmings and a large portion - and I tried the burger, again delicious. Dessert-wise the chocolate brownie was lovely. We would definitely book again if in the area and try out further menu options, recommend.

WOW...steak and ale pie was out of this world! Delicious pastry, loaded with amazing slow cooked beef which melted in the mouth. Topped off the evening with a couple of drinks in JK’s soul lounge, perfect end to a perfect night.

Great lunch for my 50th birthday. Cosy bar with real fire and lovely food and beer. Very friendly service. Recommended.

It was the first time we (a group of four) had been for a meal here and it wont be the last!The service was excellent from start to finish, the food was of superb quality and the bill was extremely reasonable. Our group opted for pies and fish and the food was hot, well cooked and very tasty. The owner Johno was attentive and friendly and a credit to the place. We will definitely return and will be telling our friends and family to go and try it too :-)

The best restaurant/pub in Peterborough. Always amazing food and quality service. All Covid restrictions adhered too, feels very safe and clean. I would 100% recommend going if you have not been you will not be disappointed.

Nothing was touch trouble, cooked vegetable lasange that was requested by myself. Food all freshly cooked and so very tasty. Made to feel so welcome, service first class in a restaurant that felt very covid safe. This restaurant is in the country with wonderful views and plenty of outdoor seating areas. It a long time since I enjoyed a meal when eating out but boy the golden pheasant delivered. We will be back, thank you.

We booked in advance and received a warm, friendly welcome, and a very professional approach to mitigating the COVID risks. The atmosphere is also friendly & relaxed and, despite a limited Menu during these extraordinary times, there's something for everyone's liking. Between us, we thoroughly enjoyed main-courses only, a delicious Seabass with Samphire, Crushed Potatoes, Prawns and light creamy sauce; and also a [Double] Burger with Chips & a delicious Relish. All their food is prepared fresh and it was absolutely worth the wait. Highly recommend a visit, or two, or more :O)

visited this pub and was very impressed with the service and how they welcomed us as a family. Kirsten and Stuart were very accomadating to all our needs and are a very out going couple. Great atmosphere and extremely friendly. Great one way system and hand sanitation were on point, made us all feel very safe. We will be visiting this venue very soon.

Went there with my wife, masked up to go into the bar to order, having gone past several groups that clearly weren't observing social distancing, to find a group of blokes close to the bar and very close to each other.Asked the girl behind the bar who wasn't masked (none of the floor staff were) for a dry, rose wine and got some medium sweet drink. She was, though, training so we let it pass.Went back for a second wine for my wife and asked the Manager, again, for a dry rose. What he gave me turned out to be something like sweet fruity pop. Either he has no regard for his customer's wishes or absolutely no clue about wine.Somewhere to avoid if you care about your palate or your life!

Not sure what the poor review about covid care and wine is referencing, certainly not this venue. The owners and staff are superb, caring and in tune with society. Everything is well thought out, completely professional and fun - a word some people have forgot. My wife will only drink wine here, because it is the best. The manager knows his wine and has often advised us on wine, also his pint is the freshest and coldest in the area. A trusting experience and good crack, exactly what the world needs right now - plus the outdoor seating area, kids park, football goals, bbq hut and superb and cavernous marquee are all just an added bonus. We went today for afternoon tea for our wedding anniversary. Wow the food and service is outstanding. Everything on the tea is freshly made and all cooked on site ie: cheesestraws sauage roll which where warm and beautifully large cup cakes with cream and not forgetting the scones.Thank you for make our afternoon special

We arranged to meet friends for the first time since lockdown and needed to find somewhere halfway to eat at. It was well worth the 100 mile round trip for each couple to find a warm welcome, good service, excellent food and a safe environment. We all decided to make this our venue of choice when we next meet up.

It was by accident we came across this fabulous establishment. What a wonderful first visit. The food, service, atmosphere and genre of music was fabulous. Thank you for making us feel so welcome. We will be returning many many times in the future.
