Went for afternoon tea on the Groupon voucher , it looked like they had been to Tesco's for the cakes, one tea bag in tea pot for two, sandwiches looked like they had looked in fridge to see what they had, I did complain, they they tired to right it but the moment was gone as it was a birthday treat, I did ask if we had different food from full paying clients the answer was no... We had been previously and it was a very enjoyable occasion will not be going back..

Booked for one night Oct 24, It was reduced by £20.00. 4 star hotel. I could have chosen from inns locally. If only I had. My late gran could have decorated the small room exactly to her taste. I was so disappointed that i nearly left to go to another Inn but i was told we are here now. Travelodge is better. We booked a meal in the restaurant for 8.15 pm but being as at 7.30 on a Saturday night the restaurant had NO customers we chose to eat outside the hotel. The hotel postcode is wrong and the car park took us 15 mins of driving through one way streets to find, we went around in circles. I'm quite good at getting it right but this hotel was an absolute disaster. Finally to sum it all up the room had a safe in the wardrobe but it was light and not affixed...

Second time and we were optimistic. I'd asked for a quiet room on first floor. As we were on a Travelzoo offer I didn't expect a best room but we couldn't get to it, key wouldn't work, after two trays with hubby going all the way back to reception, they changed batteries in door and we were in. It was ok, clean but small. But outside was a large air vent so we had to keep window closed. Dinner ( in offer) was fantastic but rather hurried, had to keep asking for another 5 minutes!! But food was excellent. We asked if they could change mattress as hubby had a bad sleep, told sorry, no. Breakfast was ok, quite a lot of choice but don't bring toast too early, it gets cold! Poached egg was overcooked and bacon was inedible. I also prefer to help myself at a buffet. That evening coming into hotel we saw a DJ!! Oh dear we thought. Asked if we would hear disco and we're told no!!!!!! We could still hear it with ear plugs in, thank heavens it stopped at about 12. Second breakfast was better as I asked for soft runny eggs. Black pudding was lovely as freshly cooked. All in all a reasonable stay for price. Would we return, sorry, no.

Good location in the centre of Peterborough if this is what you are looking for. You can walk within 10 minutes or so from the railway station. Rooms are okay, most I’ve stayed in are good, comfortable, a little traditional/dated but you get a good nights sleep. TV’s could be better but it’s not something that would effect the rating I give. Never eaten breakfast here as I’m up and out before it starts serving. The bar has recently been refurbished, it’s good, definitely a positive feature of the hotel. Good on an evening to watch some sport too. I would recommend the bar. Parking at the rear, including EV charging included in the price which is another positive. Point to improve - the hotel is a Best Western, despite being a platinum member and staying here well over a dozen times this has never been mentioned on any stay I’ve had and it’s because it’s a Best Western hotel that I choose to stay here. So that personally is a disappointment to me.

Hotel rooms and public areas spotlessly clean. Bed was comfortable. Views out the rooms not great (city centre) but location very convenient. Large car park with free 7kW EV charging for residents. The breakfasts were good. Food from the bar was also excellent, and reasonably priced. I stayed here a few years ago and it was a tired and sorry place. My recent stay was very different. I'd happily go back. Any downsides? Peterborough city centre unfortunately seems to have a problem with beggars and homeless. The hotel is in a perfect location for the station and the city but that means it's also in the midst of lots of people just hanging about. Wandering around the city centre, expect to be approached for money or cigarettes.

The make over is lovely, and the staff were very nice, however the bar was very busy and all evening the waiting staff was carrying large trays of food from the kitchen through the bar this was very dangerous and a nightmare for the poor boys and girls trying to make their way with trays of food, as a customer we could not relax as we were afraid we would get food raining down on us, such a pith as the craic was good but we left as did many more. This needs addressing by the management.

We have stayed at the Bull Hotel a few times over the past years but this time we were really disappointed and feel that it is sadly not as good as it used to be. Our room was comfortable enough, although not very spacious and the 7 cushions in addition to the 4 pillows on the bed were difficult to store and rather unnecessary! Also there was no stand for a suitcase. The view from the room window was not good either. The bar area has been redecorated since our visit last summer but we found it dark in there and whereas in the past I have enjoyed cocktails in the bar the menu has changed. I was pleased to see that my favourite Singapore Sling is still on the menu but I didn't have any because they now make it with raspberry Chambord whereas it is usually made with cherry brandy so I was very disappointed. Breakfast was not good at all. We went down for breakfast at 08.45 knowing that it is available until 09.30. Hot food is set out like a buffet but is served to you by staff members. I requested bacon and the lady said "Do you want one or two?" I asked if I could have a bit more than that because I don't eat sausages or beans and she put a little bit more on my plate. I felt as if they were rationing customers and it made me feel very awkward. On the menu it stated that the buffet included a "selection of fresh croissants and pastries" There was one sad looking almost circular pastry with a yellow blob in the middle sitting on a plate on the buffet table so I asked a member of staff if they had any croissants but they said they didn't so I took the menu over to another member of staff and pointed at what it said. They offered to cook one and I accepted but again I felt awkward. There were quite a few people who came into the breakfast room after us so it's not as if we were late arriving so I can't understand why they couldn't have prepared a selection of croissants and pastries to put out on the buffet as stated on the menu. The menu also advertised "fresh fruit salad" There was none at all on the buffet. I took the menu over to another lady who was serving and asked about the fruit salad and she said "We don't have that any more". All in all not a good experience. We will be thinking twice before booking there again next summer.

Very spacious and fairly clean room. However the hotel would benefit from having a lift as it was tricky taking my luggage up 4 flights of stairs. Since most of their guests seem to be quite elderly this is something that needs to be considered. It's also a bit of a rabbit warren with lots of twists and turns before I found my room. The view from the window wasn't great, just a wall, but it didn't matter too much as I wasn't planning to spend much time inside.

Customer service training is needed - no apologies and lack of smiles. Asked for slight changes on a meal (eg: no chutney and well done fried egg) It came with runny fried egg and chutney. Another meal came as a deli sandwich and not as the burger described on the menu. They had put it on the bill as the more expensive of the two! Approached the two staff at the bar to advise 2 meals were incorrect. I was told by the male member of staff that I had said it incorrectly to him! Therefore it was my fault and he walked away! There were 5 other people at my table that heard my order. The female checked and she had put it through incorrectly. No apology from either member of staff. The meal was changed but all they did was scrape off the chutney and changed the ciabatta to a brioche roll!! There was no pork belly either but I couldn't be bothered to try and get it changed. There is a £5 difference between the two meals - how can they justify the price difference? It may be a 4 star hotel but you do not get 4 star service. The male waiter also tried to take our plates away even though one person was still eating! Basic manners? Then it took ages for the plates to be cleared even though there were 3 members of staff and it was quiet in the bar.

So I stayed at the Bull hotel in Peterborough for 3 nights in June 2024! The hotel itself is quite nice and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The price was fair and the food was good. The only negatives that I can see are that the sockets are at the opposite side of the room than the bed, meaning you need to leave your phone at the far side of the room to charge overnight unless you have a super long cable. Another negative is that it is extremely difficult to find the entrance to the car park. I drove around for ages before I found it! It is effectively down a dead-end street and through an archway. It would be beneficial if the hotel had pictures of the arched entry to the carpark on their website. The hotel is right in thr middle of town so shops and restaurants are very close by.

Afternoon tea was quite frankly hideous! Where to begin… So the sandwiches were just about edible (apart from one) they lacked filling, yet did have copious amounts of butter! One sandwich my friend and I couldn’t even work out what the filling was! Some kind of bacon, chicken and tomato mix, looked revolting, tasted revolting. (This one was infact inedible after taking one mouthful). Moving swiftly onto the “scones” - looked like a “scone” certainly didn’t taste like one. I can only imagine it’s what a brick must taste like! It was rock hard and dry, thank god I had the watery, cold, sewer like tea to wash it down with. Finally the “cake” selection on the top tier - small, wet & soggy! No taste what so ever, yet again no idea what they were, one resembled a small Yorkshire pudding with a burnt lifeless peach stuck on top of it, it was truly hideous! Seriously i’m not exaggerating, that was the worst food I’ve ever eaten in my whole entire life. How you are still in business I do not know! Also just to add salt to the wound, staff were rude and looked extremely scruffy. I would avoid this place at all costs. I’d sooner eat dead, rotting roadkill than your afternoon tea & that’s putting it politely!

Really rude staff that made you feel chastised, floppy sandwiches with little or no flavour, just ok scones - no fruit, just plain and no butter, defrosted watery bite size cake style offerings. This was the worst afternoon tea we have ever experienced and very embarrassing for our friends! Fortunately we did get our money back. Never for us to return - in our opinion - one to avoid!

Went for Mothers Day lunch. Surprised we had to pay in full at time of booking for a table of 5. On arrival at the table we were served by one of the long serving staff - not a great experience. Very rushed speaking to us. No drinks order taken, apparently no drinks menu. Took food order in a very hurried fashion. Had to order desserts too. As only 3 to choose from (only serving Mothers Day menu) why the rush? Eventually drinks order taken and the drinks arrived towards the end of our starters. Soup arrived on a hot plate, but soup was stone cold & had to be sent back. Vegetables served with main course arrived without any serving spoons - we had to use dessert cutlery. For 4* hotel. where website quotes unrivalled service - lunch service was very poor. Newer younger staff (might even be weekend staff still at school) were great - the more experienced were not welcoming or attentive.

Staff were not welcoming at all. The bar was understaffed and very small. The drinks were extremely expensive £14 for a can of Guinness and a glass of Prosseco. The starter of crayfish and prawns consists of 1 lettuce leaf slice of tomato and some maryrose covered prawns, all 5 of them. The seabass main was small and dry and served with overcooked carrots and Brussels! I had cheese and biscuits for dessert, the funniest things I have ever seen with 3 small bits of cheese and soggy crackers. The DJ was crammed into the corner, the dance floor was small and just not big enough for the number of people crammed into the room. The night came to a climax with a fight between a couple.of Peterborough Chavs, followed by a visit from 6 police officers as The Bull Hotel had no security staff to brake the fight up or deal with the issues. The Bull Hotel is ideally situated in central Peterborough and has a good-sized car park at the back. Reception provided an adequate service but the best service we received was in the bar and also in the breakfast room where staff were very attentive and efficient. Our room was down a separate ground floor annexe-like corridor and although it was spacious it was sparsely decorated and didn't feel homely, unlike the rooms we've previously stayed in which were located in the main older part of the building. Also the one and only tap in the bathroom had a sprinkler attached and was most annoying as it almost gave you a shower every time you tried to wash your hands - we did mention this to reception! We had drinks in the bar in the evening - a good variety of cocktails on the menu. Breakfast food was great quality and staff were very welcoming and helpful.

How disappointing.....as with other reviews we were given a voucher for Christmas but due to COVID we have only now redeemed it. Unfortunately they don’t offer a savoury option anymore although this was on the voucher. The food was fresh and nicely prepared but the sandwich filling choice was poor. The voucher suggested Cucumber and cream cheese, Ham, Oak smoked salmon and Chicken, bacon and tomato mayo. We got cheese and pickle, ham, egg and tuna!! Not quite what was expected. Our waitress was surly and no where near giving the customer service we have received elsewhere. So disappointing when our voucher was given with love and kindness. Would not return.

We read about this hotel in a neighbouring community magazine and felt it would be good to support the couple as they had not long taken it over and with COVID outbreak we thought it would be good To support where we could. Unfortunately both evening meals were lukewarm and on a really hot summer evening there was really no excuse for this. Very disappointing.

Just returned from a relaxing hour or so enjoying a splendid afternoon tea at the Bull Hotel. It was served in the main restaurant of the hotel which is spacious and light.A glass of fizz to start while we chose between a savoury or sweet offering. We opted for one of each! Given the choice of tea or coffee we went for the coffee which was served in large pots-one each. The sandwiches were fresh and tasty served on a platter. . The mis matched cups saucers and side plates added a retro feel to the occasion and tables were dressed in starched white linen decorated with fresh flowers. The savoury etagere had a warmed mini quiche, spring rolls and a terrine served with mixed olives. The cheese scone was also warmed served with chutney and cream cheese. The sweet one had both a plain and sultana scone served with jam and clotted cream. The whole thing was toppped off with a lemon posset, large piece of millionaires shortcake, flapjack and rich chocolate cake. Thankfully we were offered a box to bring home our leftovers as there was just too much . Service was efficient and helpful. Would highly recommend.
