Bluebell plaice in Peterborough

Walked all the way to this place to see it's closed for 5 weeks. Would have been helpful to post on website, Facebook and update opening hours on Google search.

My husband Jim and I have 34 years experience in catering. The fish and chips at bluebell plaice are without any doubt the best we have had . The fish is cod ,not Pollock a cheaper fish sold as cod. Try for yourself and I am sure you will agree. Although I no longer live in Peterborough I will definitely visit this fish shop every time I am in the area.

Been here many times during the break for home deliveries , food allways freshly cooked and service excellent ps the steak and ale pie was amazing.

The first time here it was recommended by different people ,so we thought we would try it. We were not disappointed. The chips were fresh, the batter was crisp, and not as greasy as a lot of chip shops I have been to. We will be back .

Very nice fish and chips, cost £11 with a bottle of coke. Look I know it may seem expensive but these businesses have their hands tied with energy costs and food prices increasing all the time. Use them or lose them. Nice portion sizes, friendly customer service.

Great fish and chips, but expensive

Honest review…standard tasting chippy, overly expensive, two cod and chips cost £25! That’s half my shopping budget! Chippy used to be a cheap take away! Shocked that a bit of cod costs 9 quid 🤔 if it was super tasty that’s different but it was bland and dry, chips were like bullets. One staff member was friendly. The “medium” cod at £7 was quite big but not worth the money.

Prices just shot up. A couple of weeks ago - 2 X regular cod + large chips = £12. Today = £17.60 Today Golden Cod - cod + chips = £6.50 X 2 = £13. Golden Cod it is.

Clean (spotless) good food and service

Stopped at nearby Tesco for petrol on way home and searched for a chippy. This came up with good reviews and thought I would try it. Bought Chips, fish and curry. My 7 year old son said "This food is really good, there can be no complaints about this chippy"! I will leave that to speak for itself.

Every fish and chip shop goes through phases, often brought about by changes of owners and menu choice. We wanted good quality fish and chips from our local chippy and delighted to report that, on our visit, the food was top notch.

This is probably Peterborough's best chippy, food is cooked fresh while you wait... normally a bit of a que but thats a sign its good. You wont be disappointed.

Long wait despite being quiet , staff standing in front of the window on their phones which doesn’t look good. Couldn’t manage timing as noticed chips wrapped and put in top cabinet 10 mins before fish came out which meant they were soggy and not very hot. Asked for more chips but I would have had to wait even longer as none cooking.

Over 23 pound for 1 large chips and cod 3 cod roe and 3 sausage in batter I called back because we ordered more than that but the lady denied we did and that's the price for what we had. Last time we're be going there. O yer we got 2 pickeled gherkins

I'll be honest, I've had nicer. Chips very greasy and I had a battered sausage that wasn't very warm.

Used to love this fish and chip shop But despite trying many times to get great fish and chips this place continues to fail,Very pricey for what you get £10.75 for 2 cod and large chips,To cap it all in one of the tail?? pieces of Cod??? Was a bone measuring 1/1/2 inches , to sell this as boneless/skinless cod is a lie!! Despite living a few minutes away,we will not visit again!! Bring back Dale 😩😢

This used to be excellent until the latest owners took over. The chips are mostly good, but the fish is not good. I was hoping that things would improve, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Gave this place another try to see if it was just teething problems the first time. It wasn't as the food is still greasy and over/under cooked. This was never how this chippy served food. Won't be back for a third try.

Very disappointed the fish is over cooked and very dry, the fish is very oily hasn’t dried out enough. The chips was still raw in the middle needed longer to cook. Definitely needs improvement.

Not as good as it uses to be old owners left 2015/16 new owners a nice asian family but chips not as dry as they uses to me now they are greasy. IMO

Several disappointments from this place since the owner change. Frequently serves fishcakes that are dry and very dark in colour, obviously sat in the range for ages. The burgers often have stale buns and occasionally they are wrinkled from being frozen when the burger was made. It is sad, as they are capable of making good food, they simply have no consistency at all. I strongly suggest avoiding.

Brought from this chippy for over 20 years with its various owners, it was always okay, the Dale took over and the food became fantastic and people travelled for miles. Everything was freshly cooked and the queues would be down the road(nobody minded as they knew it was worth it) but since it was took over it has plummeted. This is only a 5-10 min drive but we travel across the city to get decent food. Everything seem to be under/over cooked or greasy.I sometimes drive past here on the main road and glace across but never see anyone queuing outside.

I have not been here for months. It changed hands and I tried several times with its new owners, thinking they needed to settle into the business but the fish and chips were repeatedly just too greasy for me. Service was efficient.

Used to be a nice fish & chip shop, but since they've changed owner it has gone downhill. At least 10 minutes for food ( no matter what you order) and fish sizes are tiny. Also they don't put the lids on sauces properly and twice my curry sauce gas gone everywhere when I got home. Such a shame!!!

A great chippy.....no no no, much more in fact. Moved to the area a little over a year ago and I keep coming back. Good food, all cooked fresh, great flavour on their batter. A wide variety on the menu. Very good price and friendly service. Would definitely recommend to everyone.

Used to be the best in Peterborough, not any more with the new owners. What looked like a large piece of fish was all batter with the thinnest fillet ever inside. Was pretty much just the fish skin. My husbands was the same. Nearly went out again to take it back it was that much of a rip off. One star only because the batter was crisp and the chips fine.

DONT TAKE LARGE GROUPS. Came in a day early to preorder 20 small portions of chips for the local beaver and cubs group but matey wasn't interested. Basically told me not to come there as they would be busy and didn't need our business. Went to fishy business instead as they were happy to accommodate us. The previous owners used to do a deal 9n the chips as it was garenteed business and give the kids lollys and drinks. Still good food but not sure how business savy these new people are.

Decided to buy fish and chips from the shop for a change. This place is within walking distance, so I popped up for dinner. There were several people waiting, and my order was taken straight away. The food was cooked to order - so pretty fresh and hot. I had the standard sized fish and standard chips which was plenty. At £5.15, nice food.

Unfortunately since there was a change in management the service has significantly declined. Hardly any conversation takes place between the staff and customers. The food usually continues to be cooked freshly but it does not appear or taste as great as it did before. The...

One of the best fish and chip shops we have ever been to. We go there often and not once have we been disappointed. Cooked to order every time, the fish is always fresh and delicious and with an excellent batter. At a time when it is becoming increasingly difficult to find even a passable fish and chip shop, we are extremely fortunate to have the Bluebell Plaice here in Peterborough.

Yuk!, I've been using this place for years now and they was the best fish and chips shop i've been to. Until today... It seems there is a new team managing it. What a greasy pile of mush. Service could of been allot friendlier and the food is prepared with no effort I can still taste the grease whilst writing this. I rated this place 5 stars before what a shame..

I have never had a bad piece of food from here in the last 5 years I've been going. Food is always cooked fresh to order, it's resonantly priced, the place is clean an the staff are friendly. Even though the food is made to order it never seems to take long an I'm more than happy to wait. Couldn't recommend this place enough.
