Visited Saturday afternoon for a cold drink and scone. Wanted to sit outside as it was such a nice afternoon. The only free table was literally stacked with dirty plates, glasses, cups, cans. I went inside and although the entire place was empty EVERY table was also stacked with dirty crockery!! Half eaten meals, flies everywhere. One of the tables outside became vacant so I ordered my coke and scone and asked that the table be cleared.. A very reluctant lad came out and cleared the debris, didn’t bother to wipe the spilt salt, ketchup and general mess up. Another customer was loading dirty plates from her table onto another but still nobody bothered to clear up. My scone came out like molten rock,it had clearly been zapped too long in the microwave. When it had cooled down enough to hold I tried to cut the scone,it was rock hard. By this time the staff were out enjoying the chaos that was happening in the grounds of the cathedral and clearly weren’t interested in customers. Definitely won’t be returning, the whole place was dirty.

Thought we would support local business when visiting Sundays for the first time. Ordered 2 breakfasts with one tea and one coffee. Drinks arrived, tea was hot, coffee luke warm - it was replaced after complaining. Breakfasts arrived after 15 mins. However no cutlery or toast, further unexplained wait for the cutlery. Breakfasts were disappointing. Barely warm baked beans, overcooked rock hard bacon and a fried egg that was also over cooked. No runny yoke. First impressions count - as a local resident, l won’t be returning. I will stick with the chains!

Ordered the breakfast meal deal for myself and 2 family members. Was overcharged, which they later corrected. My egg and bacon roll was dry and unpleasant. The fried potatoes did not arrive and we had to ask for them and then wait. Some of them were undercooked. My daughter’s tea bag had a hole in it. No serviettes and no cutlery provided, had to use our fingers. One small portion of tomato sauce between 3. Really aweful. Seating uncomfortable thin wooden benches around the edge. Table very wonky and moved when leaning on it. Dirty environment around windows etc.

Visited late Saturday afternoon, checked with the guys as it was near to closing time, no problem & shown to a lovely room with a fantastic view of the cathedral. We were advised that the roast options had sold out (expected this due to the time of day) & we ordered our drinks and sandwiches. The coffees, tea & hot chocolate weer all great & the sandwiches (complete with salad and crisps) filled us up! I can personally vouch for the ham, mustard & cucumber ones and no complaints from the other family members about their triple cheese /homemade pickle, egg & cress and salmon /cream cheese ones either. A hidden gem right in the shadow of the cathedral, will defo return earlier to try a roast when in Peterborough again.

We had visited the cathedral and decided to go to the cathedral cafe, we ordered 2 hot drinks & 2 x bacon rolls. The drinks were fine but the rolls came wrapped in paper and were cold, why would anyone serve cold bacon rolls?

We had two small roast beef meals that were far from satisfactory, reasons being the beef was dry, potatoes more boiled then roasted, the cabbage like it had been stewed for days, the Yorkshire pudding was thick, misshapen and stale and the gravy had the consistency of thick glue. To top it all, by the time we sat down at the table our meals were lukewarm to cold. Horrible meals to say the least. When Sundays was operating some years ago near the shopping centre the food was great, fresher and served hot. Shame the place has deteriorated!

Four of us visited looking for a light lunch. The homemade soup was declared delicious and served with 'nice bread' according to my daughter, one friend opted for a hot roast beef roll which she says she greatly enjoyed. My other companion and myself went for sandwiches. The bread was beautifully fresh and the fillings imaginative. We wouldn't hesitate to go again

We visited Peterborough Cathedral on a Sunday and as we walked in through the Gate House entrance, the delicious aroma of roast dinner wafted over us. It was coming from Sundays (previously Becketts Chapel) Cafe and we decided we just had to have lunch before our tour of the Cathedral. Not only was the aroma delicious, but the entire selection of food was so inviting. We ordered a small roast pork dinner each - well that was all we thought we could eat. When plated up, we got a pile of succulent roast pork, roast potatoes, steamed carrots & cabbage, a huge crisp Yorkshire pudding, crackling, apple sauce & gravy. It was divine but the helping, even though a small one, was too much for us and we had to leave some on the plate. We can highly recommend this amazing cafe to anyone visiting Peterborough Cathedral on a Sunday - the price is very reasonable, the food exceptional and the service superb.

Located near the cathedral, where we had a guided tour, this was the obvious place for lunch before we set out for the second part of our trip. Eating indoors or outdoors by choice, but order the food at the counter inside. Try the salmon and cucumber sandwich, which was light and delicious, but be wary of the baked potato - our were over baked, hard skins, perhaps sitting in the oven too long waiting for an order? One redeeming feature was the courtesy and effort staff made (after hours) to recover a coat left behind on a hot and sunny day. :)

It is easy to walk past this place without noticing it is there as it is tucked off the main drag from the arch into the cathedral grounds. Once found this is a great place to come for coffee, snack or a full blown roast meal. Friendly service, there is even a licence which enables them to serve alcohol. We only came in for a sandwich, which was very tasty and prepared to order but there was a full counter with a hot roast available which looked delicious. My only concern was the number of flies also showing an interest in the roast, maybe a way of covering the serving area when no-one is there would be useful.

It’s easy to walk past this place without noticing – I’m glad we spotted it. The interior is splendid – with high ceilings, beams and even a ‘throne’ built into one of the walls. The service was welcoming and friendly, and the cakes looked very tempting indeed. We plumped for the ginger flapjack. The friendly young man serving us said that was one of his favourites. And once we tasted it, it became one of ours too. This is a seriously scrummy cake. The coffee was excellent too. Highly recommended.

I was recommended to Sunday's by the cathedral staff and you might miss it if you look for it in the square so just go through the archway as if you were going to the cathedral and it's on the left. The roasts are to die for, including, so I'm told, the nut roast. I had a generous serving of beef with yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and plenty of vegetables for only £4.99. We were served at the counter and it was busy but the staff were working well as a team and it didn't take long. We chose to sit outside but a shower drove us into where there are two separate rooms. The facilities are old but perfectly clean.

Initially intended to "grab a sandwich" but the roasts looked excellent, there were three available on a weekday lunch and although we chose "small" there was no room left on our plates. Turkey was moist and the pork really tender, lots of veg and apple sauce. Proper mugs of tea Efficient service at the counter and plenty of places to sit. Not fine dining but well cooked and presented roast dinners offering excellent value.

The place could defiantly do with a revamp as could put off potential first time diners. If you are a regular, you see past all that and are subjected to the best quality BBQ meat in Peterborough and would rival known London bbq restaurants. The brisket and beef ribs are to die for as well as the wings. In fact, everything is bang on and if you get the full platter, make sure you are hungry. Andy is a great host and really makes you feel welcome. I have been going every Thursday for the last 3 months.

We decided to give the Sunday lunch a whirl and this was not too bad.....only two choices of veg, cabbage and cauliflower cheese, I would have preferred more choice and the Yorkshire puddings were too hard to eat by the rest of it was OK, The surroundings were grim.....I was not expecting fine dining but I was expecting cleanliness at the very least. The toilets are a disgrace and there is no working tap in the ladies loo...just a black board apologising for a broken tap which I suspect has been that way for sometime. The toilet was filthy and you need good leg muscles so you can hover rather than sit! There was a hand rail covered in a a thick layer of dust, dirty marks on the walls and doors. The restaurant floor was filthy and the walls need painting, there is plaster and paint hanging off the ceiling. The clientele mainly consisted of lone diners of a certain type who shouted conversation from table to table. Similarly, a member of staff kept going in and out of a door beside our table and letting it slam shut repeatedly which went right through us.....no consideration for diners. We couldn’t wait to get out of there and would not visit again. It certainly needs to clean up its act.

What a mountain of food and excellent value. My friends and I enjoyed a sharing bbq board for £37 which was more than enough for three people. There was chicken wings, pulled pork, beef brisket, ribs, coleslaw, pickles and bread and butter. American style cooking of various Bbq meats that you might see on a Man Vs Food episode. We have been to a similar sort of restaurant when in London, so I have marked Sundays down slight for comparison as I am sure it could be capable of producing even better standards of food. What we had on this occasion was nice with reasonable portions of meats and sides served together. There are couple of things not available, as the proprietor has to try and consider what he needs to cook ahead of time, so you may find that going on a Wednesday might reault in less food options that going on a Friday or Saturday evenng. For a family of five we got through the meal without any waste but could have had much more than that and were overall quite satisfied. If Sundays were to look to Bodean in london for some inspiration they could add a few additions to the menu to really surprise and impress customers.

I had heard many stories about this place all good but from the outside it is very deceptive and never was on my must visit list! However I was invited to join friends for a birthday meal and thought why not? In the day it is very busy serving a variety of food from breakfasts to good range of food. In the evening it offers a BBQ night and we went on a Thursday night. We had to book so I advise this! It was busy and we were taken to our table. The menu on offer was good and included food for our veggie people too. I have brisket with sides and 3 glasses wine. There were 6 of us and the Bol was reasonable at under £20 each. Great value and good service from the waitress. Yes it is small basic no thrills but value for money and quality make up for this. We will go again definitely

Also ordered a filter coffee and it came in a generous mug....great..... all that for around £6. The menu choice is good also.Once we had ordered we didn't have to wait long until the biggest plate of food I have seen was placed in front of me. Four of us visited Sundays for the 'Barbeque Nights' after hearing good reviews from friends. What a surprise and what a different type of meal. We ordered the meat platter which contained beef brisket, pulled pork, chicken wings, a full rack of ribs, barbecue beans (contained pieces of pulled pork), pork in a spicy tangy sauce and two sides. We opted to add extra pulled pork and sweet chilli sausages (came with fried onions and cheese) as the platter is normally for two plus fries, wedges and macaroni cheese. There was more than enough for 4 people and we were so full we couldn't manage a sweet. The meat was all tender and locally supplied but tasted lovely. The ribs were full of meat and the barbecue marinade was delicious. This is a hidden gem and has only been doing the barbecue nights recently. We will definately be returning. They even do a vegetarian platter but not being a veggie didn't enquire as to its contents. This is however a meat feast location. The staff were very attentive and friendly. There is a small but well stocked bar and I was even able to get a nice bottle of local Oakham Ale. With the amount of food we had plus drinks the bill only came to £72 for 4 people. The platter for two is only £17.

We went not really knowing what to expect, Sunday's has historically been all about their roasts and these are served canteen style. It is very different for the BBQ Nights, table service and proper plates etc. The waiter was awesome, he helped us decide on the sharing platter. With this came ribs, pulled pork, burnt ends, chicken wings, rib ends, brisket, pickles and coleslaw. As there was 4 of us we also got 4 sides, we had BBQ beans, mac n cheese, sweet potato fries and normal fries. There was way too much food, we were stuff after and loved everything. The BBQ beans were my highlight, beans in a BBQ sauce with sausage mixed through, pulled pork on top and a mustard glaze. I could have just eaten a massive plate of that. For pud i had the cherry pie with custard, i'm not 100% sure it was home made (but i'm not sure it was advertised as being so), still fab though. We went during their opening offer so it cost us £10pp (including pud) plus drinks. After seeing that they offered BBQ food in the local paper I thought I would give it a go. I haven't eaten there during the day, however based upon the food and service in the evening I recommend this restaurant. Advice from the staff, portion size and most importantly the quality of food was spot on. From booking to a table to paying the bill, the service was fantastic, I thoroughly recommend this restaurant!

Very simple restaurant/cafe serving good food at very good prices. The set up is great with the roasts all on show ready for carving for roast dinners or hot rolls. Yorkshire puds, roast spuds and veg also on show so you can see exactly what you're getting. Choice of sizes in dinners and rolls appropriately priced and good selection of hot and cold drinks. We sat outside in late September, it's a real sun trap so felt more like we were abroad drinking cold beer from chilled glasses with a hot turkey roll. Great little place well worth a visit.

What an appaling experience. The guy behind the counter was rude and very obnoxious. The meat portions he gave me and my family were probs ok to feed my 1 yr old baby, not for fully grown adults. When i go to pay i am told in an appaling manner there is a 40 pence charge for using my debit card! What i said, well we are a small business and have to pay charges i am told, then he turns his back an walks away. Disgusting service. And the food wasnt much better. Worst restaurant in peterborough. I wont be returning.

I have now visited Sundays restaurant about half a dozen times and I have had nice roast dinners there but I will make a special comment about the breakfast, all ingredients used are of the highest quality and a special mention goes to the sausages.Probably the best I have ever eaten.Service is fast and friendly with reasonable prices.

Sundays offers plain, wholesome, traditional roast dinners every day - local meat and locally grown vegetables, all freshly cooked at amazingly good prices. Other basic foods also available including hot filled rolls to take away. Unsophisticated but excellent.

This place is small and generally feels like you are stepping back a decade or so when you walk in but it all adds to the charm. The service is great and the food is second to none. There is a real pride and quality taken in this restaurant with a varied customer range for that reason. My only annoyance is I didn't find this gem sooner. Should defiantly be shouted about more

Called here for lunch and was very surprised. The food is nice and simple roast meat as either a Sunday lunch or a sandwich, brilliant! It's reasonably priced and in a convenient location in the city centre. My only criticism is that the place is a little bit dated but you can get passed that easily.

Wow, Wow, Wow.These guys do Sunday Lunches, all week!Great beer from Samuel Smiths brewery, quaint little eateries, be prepared to eat in the same restaurant as your local bin man, office manager and tramp, all at the same time. As close to a city pie and liquor experience as you can get in the Fens!

Not sure how long this restaurant has been here, but I've visited fairly frequently over the years. On this visit I took my mum. The food as always was pretty good. It's carvery, and you have the choice of beef, turkey or pork. I went with beef. It was very nice. You get a good portion (smaller or larger if you have a little or big appetite) and there's a range of desserts too. Service is good, you queue up, select your food, pay and find a seat. The place itself is nothing outstanding, but it's serviceable. Good price. And let's be honest, you can eat a nice roast dinner on a Wednesday. Or Monday. Hell, any day you fancy. Cool.

If you are the sort of person who loves the Macdonalds or formulaic restaurants you can find in every town throughout the country, or who thinks unless you spend a fortune on a meal for it be good enough for your palette and need to be waited on hand and foot, then this might not be for you. The food is great, locally sourced fresh vegetables, "proper meat" and is everything good about English cooked meals - and excellent value too. It has a cafe feel about it but what's wrong with that?

The food was good, excellent value and very tasty. The ambience was poor - a real 'cafe' feeling but with restaurant food. The chairs are pretty flimsy and metal legs that scrape noisily (you know that sound of nails down a blackboard?? Similar!) so overall a great meal, but the place needs updating inside.

Not one to write reviews normally - but felt I had to put something down when I saw the appalling misrepresentations of my favourite Roast Dinners place 'Sundays' (anyday of the week). I have eaten here a least a couple of times a month over the last 6 or 7 years. The English Roast Meats, the local/seasonal vegetables The crisp roast potatoes are always great, but the homemade proper yorkshire puddings & gravy are simply amazing!!!!! I understand the gravy is made from actual meat juices & thicken ITS THE BEST (& its only £4.99). also breakfast is pretty good (award winning proper sausages!) The service-style is a counter:polite, fast & efficient ( don't expect to be waited on, they get very busy over lunch times) & the layout & decor is very clean & functional - it seems daft to review a place which isn't a restaurant as such - Great cafe though - Slow Roasted Fast Food is the slogan I LOVE IT

We only went into this place because the Italian restaurant across the road was too full. We should have waited. It is advertised as a traditional English food restaurant but I hope no visitor to this country goes in and thinks that the food really represents England, it doesn't. My wife, who is from the Philippines, can cook far better English food than is served here. The roast potatoes were soft and soggy, the carrots virtually inedible. The beef pie I had just about OK but was probably bought in. My wife said her roast chicken was OK but the Yorkshire pudding was horrible.Needless to say we did not want to try their 'traditional' puddings.Overall a very poor experiences.

My friend visited Peterborough on Thursday to do some shopping and not being sure where to eat we asked at the tourist information office, they unbelievably directed us to Sunday's, never never again, the service was dreadful and the food left much to be desired. We both ordered a small carvery meal, we were asked what veg etc we wanted on our plates, this made no difference as a second waitress immediately put everything on, including cabbage which was soaking in so much water, talk about cooked to death, the gravy was awful and within a minute of sitting at our table it had congealed over all our food, we both left our meals at they were truly inedible. As an aside, the meals, once plated up were put on a hotplate until we had ordered our drinks and paid, the cloth the waited used to then move the plates onto our trays was disgustingly filthy. As we discarded our dreadful food a young girl appeared with a mop and bucket to start mopping round where we were sitting, there was an overwhelming smell of bleach and we asked her to wait until we had left the table. I have to say, this is possibly the worst meal I have left in my life, the staff are rude, the place itself far from welcoming and the food is totally disgusting. If I could award a minus rating I would be more than happy to do so.

Basically a choice of 3 or 4 roast meats with the trimmings using a carvery type system, but no going back for more!. The £4.99 'small' plate (Oct 2014) is more than adequate for most folk. I've always had a pretty good meal, hot and tasty - and fabulous crackling on the pork. The seats and tables are basic as is the floor and decor. Space is tight and there is no 'ambience' to speak of. It looks a little tired and uninspiring. I certainly wouldn't take anyone for a special treat, and it's not a place you would linger in - it is just a simple cafe. However, for a good filling midday dinner it's fine.

Whilst the roast pork tasted good. The service was not so good. The lady taking orders did not listen to what the customers ordered. When you ask for a Roast Pork Sandwich with stuffing and sauce, you do not expect to be asked if you want a dinner or a sandwich. It said on the sign that it came with veg, potatoes and yorkshire, mine didn't. May be when she asked me if I wanted anything else and I asked do you mean to drink and she ignored me, maybe then I should have asked for all the trimmings. This was my first time at Sundays and I'm not sure I'd go again as I thought she was rude.

This place doesn't have the fancy look of Carluccios just across the walkway, but at 1/4 of the price why should it?Very simple, Roast dinner for two with everything plus drinks for around a tenner!. Better value than a Toby carvery and very pleasant staff. served quickly, food was hot and tasted good.

Well what can this place do wrong? They serve a whole host of roast lunches, in a simple environment, but they do it superbly. You can go here for a beer and lunch, sit in the same square as Carluccios and have a really decent, filling, tasty and well priced meal.Go here, try the food, be impressed like I was!(do not go here, if you are a snob!)

Had an english breakfast. Staff were polite and friendly but the food was awful. Greasy and very poor quality and cost me over £6. If you are just looking for a breaky there are more options in town. Maybe the roasts are better but avoid the breakfast at all costs!

Good tasty roasts here at a reasonable price. Been here a few times now, always nice cooked meat with plenty of gravy. This time tried the beef and horse raddish roll with a bowl of roasties & gravy....Mmmmmmm lovely. only downside is place is a bit on the small side with tables too close together. But still well worth a visit.

Food fair price and good service by kami. Hot chocolate was nice, pet friendly, plenty of parking. I'd reconmend to pop in the daytime for pub grub

We had booked a table and four of us enjoyed sitting outside at the rear of the property for lunch. The pub has a incoherent system of routing you out to the side of the building to the patio attge rear, rather than straight through the building, where you see a no entry sign on the chair. Made no sense at all, just irritating. We ordered from a good choice of mains, small plates or starters. I really enjoyed a vegetarian aubergine dish, with breadcrums and garlic bread. Othere had burgers and peri peri chicken. Staff were mainly friendly. They hold your credit card as a means of ensuring people pay.
