The Golden Lion Hotel in Northumberland

We had a hen party booking for lunch yesterday for 16 ladies. We had pre ordered our meal options. The food was lovely, catering for food allergies and dietary requirements. Vegan lasagne was excellent. Jonny and his whole team were well organised and made sure we had everything we needed! Lovely cosy pub in a beautiful village!

We had Sunday lunch and thoroughly enjoyed it. Are in the Bar/Lounge area, rather than the Restaurant as the atmosphere was friendly and not too crowded.

On a tour of the area from Weardale via Alston and back via Allendale. Planned a pub lunch somewhere and were quite disappointed to find many places closed during the week. Eventually found Gilden Lion in the square in Allendale Town. Large bar area with good selection of ales, lagers and ciders as well as gins etc. menu selections ranged from sandwiches to bar snacks to full pub grub meals. We selected Battered Cod and chips. It was satisfactory although batter and chips were a little on the ‘soggy’ side of crisp!Staff were friendly and polite and service prompt. The pub did have a rather ‘musty’ smell.

The food was great. Also the waiters made sure to set up a lot of trouble for us. Recommend this to anyone!

I'd visited last summer and enjoyed a pleasant chickpea burger and excellent chips sitting outside. Unfortunately the experience was not replicated when I visited on 17th March. I ordered steak and ale pie and hand cut chips. The pie was only half edible, with the crust being rock hard and impossible to cut. The chips were almost very good, only needing a minute more in the fryer, but the veg was awful and looked and tasted like it had been scraped off last night's plate and revived with some hot water. I had to leave half the meal and it cost £11.95. I cannot understand why anyone would think it was acceptable to serve this meal to a paying customer.

We ate here three times over the week that we stayed in Allendale. The Sunday dinner here was the best I've had in a pub in a very long time. Fish and chips were epic. We took the kids and the dogs but couldn't take the dogs up in to the restaurant upstairs. Very very good

Very friendly pub, accommodated a party of 6 at very short notice. Moved a couple of tables around and found us a time slot to suit. They honestly couldn’t have made us feel more welcome!To top it all, food was fabulous - thanks everyone in the team.

From the moment we arrived on Friday evening until we left early Sunday we had the most outstanding experience…Customer service 10/10 A+++, warm, welcoming nothing to much trouble.Room , wow just amazing no expense spared , really nicely done, beautiful, quality, every attention to detail considered. 10/10 A+++Mattress amazing, slept like a baby Food OMG, 10/10 A+++++, a simple but selective menu which did not fail to deliver, fresh ingredients, cooked from scratch, just amazing…, service was delightful even when busy, staff attentive and caring.Quality of food was outstanding!!Overall 10/10. …A+++++ , pricing was very competitive and worth every penny, can’t wait to revisit…Thank you for making our stay at Allendale pleasurable and restful….

The Golden Lion in Allendale is a fabulous hotel and pub. Situated in the centre of the village, there is ample free parking in the Market Place. We had booked a superior double room and on arrival we were advised that there was a problem with the room, viz a broken window pane that had been boarded up. We were offered an alternative room or the one we had booked, but at a reduced rate. We elected to stay in the original room as it was very spacious and, as the boarded up window didn’t bother us at all, I advised that there was no need to discount the price - although it’s very nice that the offer was made.As I’ve said, the room (number 2) was spacious, very nicely decorated and furnished, and very comfortable. The en-suite bathroom was also very smart and came with lovely big, fluffy towels.Breakfast was served in an attractive dining room and was freshly cooked to order and very good indeed.The pub is one of two in the village and is, in my opinion, the best. This view seems to be shared by the locals as it was very busy on both evenings we were there. The owner and all staff members were welcoming and friendly and the service throughout was exemplary.In short - super hotel and pub in a lovely wee village. Looking forward to returning for another visit.

We had a fabulous Sunday lunch as a extended family of 16. We had booked and pre-ordered in advance. We arrived a little early and were invited to have a drink in the bar downstairs until our table was ready. The dining room upstairs, is light and airy and overlooks the square. The food arrived quickly and was served by friendly attentive staff. The quality of everything was excellent and my slow cooked beef just melted in the mouth. I would definitely recommend.

Lovely, warm pub with delicious British Pub grub. Chilled out friendly atmosphere. A proper British country Pub, will visit again if in town.

Walked here from our holiday cottage in Catton along the river, and had an excellent meal in the pub. The fish was huge and beautifully cooked, and the steak and ale pie was bursting with meat. It was so good, that we came back later in the week and were not disappointed on our second visit either.

We found a warm and friendly welcome at the Golden Lion.. it has a relaxing atmosphere and an open fire for those days when it’s a little chilly.. great after a good walk!There is a good selection of beers and the choice on the menu is great as it caters for all dietary requirements. There us also a ‘specials’ board too and we were lucky to be there when it was Curry week and both meals we ordered were delicious.Our dog was able to sit with us in the bar area where we could eat but there is a 1st floor restaurant too if you don’t have a dog with you. We can highly recommend the fish and chips.. very generous portions and it was delicious.. If you are in and around Allendale please give it a try.. you won’t be disappointed..We can’t wait to come back.. thanks once again to the Manager and staff.. your welcome and customer service is second to none

Sunday lunch here was amazing great portions of roast pork for me, enormous Yorkshire pudding, lovely fresh vegetables and good beer. Very generous and so reasonable. Lovely dining room too. We’ll make this our regular.

Best Sunday roast I've had, all four of us agreed! Lovely pulled lamb Wellington and great beef. We'll definitley return.

It was a trip out to Neil Cole’s Sci-fi museum in Allendale which led to a visit to The Golden Lion Hotel, Allendale for some lunch.Service was very welcoming, 0% beers were available and I opted for the cheese and bacon burger on a quite vast menu. I enquired whether I could have an extra beef patty added to my cheese and bacon burger and this was absolutely fine, although I did have to pay a little extra but I was perfectly happy and expected this.Food arrived within good time and was nicely presented and hot, my burger with extra patty was absolutely delicious and an impressive size served up with great chips and a couple of very large onion rings.The bar area was lovely with that feel of a proper old countryside boozer which you can never quite get replicated in a larger city centre venue, it’s all wood floors and traditional wooden pub furniture with that wonderful smell of real ales lingering in the air. I was delighted with the lack of music, although there probably was a jukebox kicking around somewhere near the pool table area, there were no noisy background distractions whilst enjoying lunch and having a conversation.Full marks for service, food and venue.It was all part of a great day out, I’d happily recommend The Golden Lion Hotel in Allendale, Northumberland.

Have been here numerous times for the excellent food. 5 star for the food, 1 star for the clientele. Unfortunately on our last visit a very drunk couple were there with kids. The man worse for wear was looking for a fight and started shouting and swearing at a couple seated next to us for no apparent reason. The couple in shock moved tables but the guy was still looking for trouble. We would have stayed longer but finished our meal and left. Although the barmaid said she could handle these people my question is: should they continue to serve drinks to people in such a state and is it acceptable for staff to realise what is happening and do nothing about it. Sorry but on this performance won't be hurrying back soon.

We stayed for two nights and arrived to a warm welcome late on Friday night after a very long drive. On the first morning, sadly we had to be up and out very early, before breakfast. When I explained this, they very kindly brought a choice of cereals as well as fresh milk to our room so we didn’t leave on an empty stomach.It’s a great location for visiting Hadrian’s wall which is where we went on the Saturday.On Saturday night, some friends joined us for dinner and both the food and service were excellent.The room itself was a great size, very clean, comfortable and had everything we needed.I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending The Golden Lion, lovely pub, restaurant and hotel in a pretty village location.

Lovely hotel and food! We stayed at the hotel for a night, and the rooms were very traditional and robust. Both room and bathroom were very clean! The hotel provides you with clean towels, soaps and complimentary hot drinks inside the room. To add, we also had dinner and breakfast here, and the food was absolutely delicious! The owner and staff were super friendly and helpful and would like to thank them for our wonderful stay!

They're slowly refurbishing the hotel and it now has an elegant wood floor, and the tatty old carpet has been stripped from the wooden staircase. The rooms are small but comfortable, the staff are friendly, the beer is very good, and they now do a couple of decent vegetarian options on the menu, all home-made.

This is a brilliant place for Sunday lunch - all the way to 5.45pm! There is a wide choice of meats, a vegan mushroom nut roast and even fish and chips. Both the silverside beef and the nut roast were fantastic and we loved the Yorkshire puddings and selection of veg. Fitting in a desert may be a squeeze but the lemon posset is worth it.

Four of us decided to go for a meal at the Golden Lion on Tuesday night. The food was amazing and it was beautifully presented. We didn't have to wait long and it was lovely and hot. I for one will certainly be back!

Family of 5 we were here for the weekend. We ate at the Golden Lion, Saturday and Monday. Both times we have had delicious food. As a vegetarian I struggle to find restaurants that cater for vegetarians, the foo£ normally is basic and covered in garlic!! The vegan lasagne was delicious and so tasty. Would highly recommend the Golden Lion.

We stayed in Allendale for a weeks holiday and booked a table at the Golden Lion on Friday. We were told when ordering our drinks that there would be a wait for food but we were on holiday and in no rush. The staff were all very friendly and kept us informed on our food and asking if we need any drinks. The food arrived and it was certainly worth the wait. It was absolutely all amazing. My son had the fish and chips it was huge, vegetarian lasagne I was told was the best she had ever eaten. My husband had the pie it was full of delicious tasty chunks of steak and he too said it was the best pie he’s ever had. I had the hunters chicken and again it was amazing. Definitely worth a visit if you get the chance.

We visited the Golden Lion for Sunday lunch. The Sunday menu is traditional roast, or vegetarian roast or fish and chips. Between the 5 of us we had roast lamb, silverside beef and sirloin beef. All of the meals were delicious: meat was tender, range of well cooked vegetables, perfect yorkshire puddings, well presented and very good portion sizes. Desserts were homemade and delicious. There was a friendly welcome and a good atmosphere. We really enjoyed our meal.

We visit The Golden Lion every time we visit friends in Allendale. If we have dinner here in this excellent local pub I always choose the fish & chips- honestly cannot fault it, it’s absolutely delicious and without doubt the best fish and chips I’ve ever had.

From all the other reviews our expectations were high however we were really left disappointed. We visited on a Sunday afternoon for fish supper, given a table with two stools in the midst of drinking locals from the football (it seemed we were seated not in the restaurant area) and the limited menu was not what we had seen elsewhere on their Facebook page and on leaflets. The food was good, fish had a few bones but it was still nice. Good selection of beer and ales. Staff did apologise for delays and checked in on us. Overall I would say visit when it’s quiet.

Had dinner here at the weekend whilst visiting Allendale. The pub itself is in the main square of the village, it’s welcoming, friendly and has a great atmosphere.I had the steak and ale pie with chips, the pie was amazing and the chips were homemade. The portions are big here so come hungry. The staff were friendly and helpful and accommodated me and my family. When I am back up this way again, I will definitely pay the Golden Lion a visit again.

Booked an inside table for an early dinner. Three lovely meals, excellent service and would have loved to have stayed longer to enjoy the atmosphere , and lager!

Stayed here for 2 nights recently and loved every minute of it. The staff were wonderful and couldn't do enough for us especially Kameron with a K! Peter the owner was also very welcoming and the food was first class. This lovely hotel is highly recommended as are the facilities, we shall certainly return, thank you Pete, Kameron and the rest of the wonderful staff.

I don’t recognise the place described by John below.Returned home today after a two night break up in beautiful Northumbria. All the staff at the Golden Lion were friendly and helpful. A brand new fan was bought and delivered to our room (no 3) which helped keep it cool in the unusually hot weather.Our evening meals were first class (we tried four different main courses), well cooked, well presented and large portions. The breakfast spread and full English was also excellent.Large bedroom, comfortable bed, renovated and smart bathroom with large walk in shower.

Having been here under previous ownership we were so disappointed to see how far this place has fallen. We booked a table weeks in advance to be given a small table with stools in front of the draughty door. We moved ! No covid checks or details taken, people walking around with no masks shaking hands and hugging people who had just walked inLimited menu as things were "off" and basicI suggest they take a course in hospitality as they seem to have surly and ignorant down to a fine art

We turned up without a booking just before last orders on Sunday, all tables booked but as we were staying in the village and no other food was available went out of their way to ensure we had a meal. Best fish & chips we've had in a very long time. Can't thank you enough.

The steak pie is too popular..they'd run out by the time we got there! I had a hot beef sandwich instead, which was really nice. The people around us all tucked in with abandon. One to visit if you're in the area.

Great food, huge portions, lovely atmosphere and a particularly welcoming Landlord Johnny who went over and above to make sure we had a pleasant evening.

Meant to be a simple road trip overnight stay at a village pub, our time in Allendale was made very memorable by this historic pub (currently in transformation by the new owners). Friendly Johnny and a yummy vegan breakfast, after a comfy bed and great shower set us in just the right mood for a visit to the independent sci-if museum a few yards away. Thankyou Golden Lion - may the force be with you!

Heartily recommend this traditional style village inn. Johnny the manager is a very welcoming host, born and bred in Allendale. Service from him and his team was impeccable from a few afternoon drinks in the bar, dinner later in a different part of the bar (dining room currently being refurbished), through to a full English breakfast. Very big room with a few things to be repaired/upgraded during this period of new management; very comfortable super king size double bed and we slept well despite being 2 floors above the pub and retiring before closing. A good base to explore the local area including sites on Hadrians Wall.

Really good Sunday lunch, beef was amazing. The food could have been a bit hotter but other than that it was lovely. We will def come back

We came to Allendale for a mini break and booked into the Golden Lion Hotel. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming and the food is exceptional. I had the best risotto I've ever tasted and my partner said the same about the haddock and chips. Our room was beautifully decorated and very clean and comfortable. Would recommend it very highly.

We stayed at the Golden Lion Hotel over the weekend of 11-13 June 2021. We had a family wedding in the village and used the pub as our base. The manager, Johnny, was a superb front of house host. He made us feel very welcome and did a fair bit of bag carrying. We only had breakfast there due to other eating arrangements being in place, but the food was lovely and there was lots of it. The rooms (top floor) were large and were old but quaint. The pub was being renovated during our stay, but the impact was minimal. We will definitely be back after the renovation and would recommend the pub for accommodation and great hospitality

Just visited Golden Lion today since new ownership took over. Was very disappointed with the quality of the food as it used to be exceptional. Much smaller portions and the lovely homemade chips are now skinny fries.

The pub can only do takeaway food during this terrible time but I’ve been cheered up no end tonight by one of the best fish suppers I’ve ever had! As a veteran of the Magpie in Whitby, Stein’s in Padstow and Curly Burton’s in Barnsley, this was as good, if not better. No flattery here.

We’ve just had the most fabulous Sunday lunch at the Golden Lion. As locals, we know that the standard of their food is always very high, but we feel that the chefs really surpass themselves on Sundays.We had generous portions of locally sourced meat and an imaginative vegetarian option. The flavours and ambience made for a wonderful afternoon. (And there are sensible Covid rules, including friendly table service.)We can’t recommend it enough: we’ll definitely return for Sunday lunch again!

My daughters, nephew and I once again had a great meal at this lovely pub. Vegetarian Sunday Roast was unbelievably tasty and great value. Beer and atmosphere is great too. Highly recommended, and please don't change a thing. Thank you.

Visited because we hoped they may have Allendale Brewery GFPA available, sadly not!. However the food was really good, only had a GF bacon butty, and my partner A cheese and onion sandwich. Both exceptional. Will certainly be back (the brewery did not have GFPA either, waiting for stocks from the bottler).

After visiting the other two locals which I was very disappointed with apart from the bar maid in the kings who can talk and interact.with customers well we had brilliant service and great food and made to feel very welcome at the golden lion I would highly recommend a visit there .

We ate here July 2020, so very much still in COVID-19 restrictions. Pub was offering a limited menu and we sat outside, we’ve eaten here before and find the staff and food are both great. Welcoming atmosphere and we thoroughly enjoyed our food (again!).

Great selection of drinks, and the serloin was perfect. Pool table if your keen, the decor was so welcoming. Staff and owners were so brilliant.

They welcomed my daughter and I with 2 dogs, following covid rules. Very friendly and welcoming. Reduced menu but still a good variety. I had fish chips and mushy peas. Home cooked chips and the fish was enormous, came in a box for added protection My daughter had scampi and chips. Loads off scampi and a good size. Even the dogs got a biscuit.

The best fish & chips for many years. Ordered for takeaway and every part was good - on time, hot, crispy & tasty batter, moist and tasty fish, chips crispy outside and soft in. Delicious!

The perfect pub especially on a cold day as the wood burner was very welcoming. The staff were really friendly and the food was delicious.

We have been to the Parkhouse lodges at Catton three times now and decided this time to go into Allendale for a Sunday lunch as The Crown has shut. Staff really friendly lovely atmosphere we were both gutted the beef and lamb had sold out (by just after 1pm) so I opted for Pork and my partner had chicken. Have to say the pork was beautiful just a bit of a shame the chicken had clearly been grilled so was a little tougher Veg were fab, good portion size and a decent amount of gravy too! Will return

Food was excellent. We had calamari and duck spring rolls as starters and then steak and ale pie and a sausage and mash. Pie was definitely the winner in that one! Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Will definitely be back!

Really enjoyed my lunch here had a sharing plate of panko prawns, chilli beef and salt and pepper squid...shared with my husband. Really good so had to come back and try more from menu. Loved the steak and ale pie. Lucky we are staying locally!

Bus driver of the recent stag party here. Well looked after, extremely friendly staff and amazing hospitality. Best Steak and Ale Pie ever. Lovely surroundings. Will be back on a personal level without a bunch of drunken Scottish men lol

We had an excellent meal,enjoyed by all six of us. The choice was varied from starters, mains and desserts. The staff were cheerful and friendly and we look forward to visiting again next year.

Cosy bedroom but quite warm, very good breakfast, excellent beer in the bar. The only real drawback was there was only one veggie option on the food menu - frozen burger - could definitely improve there.

This is the second time we have stayed here. The rooms are lovely clean and modern. Breakfast is nice, we didn't have the cooked.The staff are lovely.Only downside is the stairs to the rooms. I have fibromyalgia and found the stairs difficult to negotiate so not really suitable for disabled but once in the room the showers are easy to access. We would definitely visit again though because the hotel is really nice regardless of these problems

My wife and I tried this pub for the first time in a long time as our usual favourite next door was closed on a Monday. We were only popping in for a drink but were tempted by an offer of 3 starters for £9.95.The three dishes were excellent and the beer was really good too.We will definitely try this pub more often when we are back in Allendale.

I stayed at the Golden Lion for a couple of nights in early August; staff were friendly and very helpful. The room was comfortable and well furnished with all conveniences / facilities. A good selection of well priced tasty bar meals were available (the chips were exceptionally good). The owner, Louise, served a comprehensive breakfast in the upstairs dining room. I can recommend and will definitely stay again when in the area.

This was a busy little pub which we frequented on our stay in the area. The menu was typical for a pub with pie, fish and chips, lasagna, curry dishes etc. Good atmosphere and service. Seating outside for the warmer evenings.

This is a really friendly pub and the owners are working really hard to ensure they enhance its reputation The bed was super comfy and the refurbished bathroom was very smart. Will definitely visit again.

The Manager was very helpful and welcoming. The room lovely and the food excellent. The area is well worth visiting as it is steeped in history. Good for cycling and walking holidays.

The place is being updated, but still has a way to go. Chicken burger was fine, but the triple cooked chips were exceptional! The staff were very pleasant. The beer was good.

Fantastic lunch of top quality ‘pub grub’. Huge portions, no room for pud. Prices and service top quality. Wish we lived closer!! Highly recommend.

Went here with a couple of friends on the Sunday of the Allendale fair weekend. Staff had had a super busy weekend but were welcoming and friendly. We all got food, I had some great homemade onion rings. Great pub food. Staff deserve high praise for their customer service during a hectic weekend. Whenever I'm next out for a walk in the area I'll be sure to come here afterwards.

Stayed in a holiday let in Allendale for 10 days and ate here numerous times, friendly staff, good food and very reasonably priced, in our opinion the best of the 3 pubs

Comfy pub, great hotel, the room was comfortable, as was the bed, view of the market place. The produce at breakfast was first class, lovely bacon, free range eggs, really lovely croissants. Louise the owner, was at breakfast, friendly lady. I would return.

We visited this pub over 2 years ago when staying in Allendale, so when we came back to corebridge we had to visit again as the food was gorgeous. This week we visited the pub twice and the food was still as nice, the staff are lovely and very chatty, the owners are very friendly and recognised us from 2 years ago. And with downstairs been dog friendly it was great for our doberman and she had plenty of strokes. This time it was definitely worth the 40 minutes travel from our place to visit this pub to have the great food. We definitely recommend visiting this pub if you are near and we will be back again next year.

Have been coming to Allendale for many years. First time stayed overnight in the pub since 1986, as bedrooms have not been available. Must admit our bedroom had the wow factor overlooking the Market Place, with a fantastic bathroom. The king size bed was very comfortable.

Enjoyed a lovely meal at the lion with family. Just like it always used to be. Nice to see Richard and Louise back here.

Having had great food on previous occasions and it being hubby's birthday we decided to treat ourselves. We live in Weardale but haven't been for a few months.

We were in Allendale for the May Bank Holiday weekend and popped into the Golden Lion for a late sandwich lunch on Friday which was excellent fresh bread lots of filling delicious salad garnish and nice crunchy chips.

We arrived just before opening and sat outside in the sunshine. Once opened we waited 20 minutes for them to clean their pipes so we could have a lager. We then ordered 4 Sunday lunches and waited 45 mins for our food which eventually arrived cold. Plus I’m not sure what they expect in a Sunday roast but half of a small roast potato is not sufficient in my eyes!! They said it was because they were busy but the pub itself was all but empty, although they did say their restaurant was full (can’t understand this as we had been there from when the doors opened and we didn’t notice lots of people arriving) The other people who had ordered food had been waiting 35 mins by the time we left and the chap outside whose food did arrive returned it because it was inedible! The only visible staff were two teenagers who tried their best, but were completely out of their depth. Apparently the manager was at home!!!. We got our money back and left and we will not be back!

Visited with my daughter for Sunday lunch before visiting the Allendale Dalek, lovely gent running the pub, roaring fire in the cosy bar area, reasonably priced. We had a vegetarian and a chicken Sunday lunch, really tasty, then chocolate fudge cake and sticky toffee pudding. All delicious, well presented and promptly served. I couldn't fault anything. The whole pub looks recently renovated, but sometimes the toilets are overlooked.. Not here.. So pretty I took photos!

Very friendly to both people and dogs. Great beer. Try 'TALL STORIES' one of best beers I've tasted in a long time. Didn't have a chance to try the food but it looked and smelled delicious. Look forward to trying it in June.

Stayed in Allendale for two night. Had dinner here both evenings. I can highly recommend the food. We had sausage and mash (me twice!).

We wandered in on spec while taking the elderly parents for a drive. What a warm welcome in both ways, a blazing real fire and friendly reception.

Went in for a quick something on a Sunday lunchtime about 2pm. Cold outside, Warm, busy and serving up great food inside. Interesting beer and a mix of locals and visitors. Service quick friendly and prompt.

We called in for a bite to eat on NYD, it was packed but we still managed to get a table. Food was really nice. Very reasonably priced too. Also dog friendly :)

Popped into the Golden Lion a few times during our stay in Allendale last month. Had some really nice pub grub washed down with some decent hand pull beers.

Nicely laid out with plenty of room for people and dogs. There's a pool table and darts as well as sitting areas for chat and food. Also an upstairs restaurant. The food is really lovely. There's a choice of good beers and a lively mix of visitors and locals at New Year. Free wifi. Very busy on NY's day - went next door instead (see Kings Head review).

What a wonderful evening. Very often pre ordered dinners and set menus for occasions such as this are very ordinary. Not this time. Dinner was amazing. Beautifully presented, tasty and timely. Staff were attentive but not over-so, helpful and friendly. A great night all round. Would love to visit and sample full a la Carte very soon. Thank you to all the team.

Great Pub. Does what it say on the Tin. Has a good Menu and the food is good. Open fire, pet friendly and the staff are friendly as well

Good choice of well kept real ales. The sharing platter with an extra portion of chips makes a good lunch for two. A great atmosphere in a very welcoming pub.

What a lovely place with friendly staff. Food was beautiful including a substantial breakfast, good home cooked food. Room 3 is lovely, overlooks the main square, a bit warm and couldn’t open a window. Shower was great and very clean. The only gripe was stair carpet is grubby and could do with a good shampoo, otherwise a lovely stay in the lovely village.

Visited here twice whilst staying in Allendale for a week. A party of five we ate upstairs in the restaurant in the evening. The food was very good and the portions were generous. I had the squid and then Cumberland sausage which I would recommend. Good service from friendly staff. Worth a visit if you’re in the area

We had the 3 course special and it was very nice (I had the pasta and as good as in an Italian restaurant!) have eaten here on sundays before as well and do a very good roast dinner. Lots of tables and nice feel to the pub it is quite classic inside but modern with that . If in Hexham and you want good food worth a visit

Friendly pub, good choice of beers. We sat outside in the sun and enjoyed a pleasant few hours. The female toilets were immaculate and such a surprise.

Stayed last night before meetings in the area today

Without realising, we booked a table for the Italian night on a Tuesday. The menu was simple and slightly strange however the mushroom beefy fettuccine was very tasty as well as the scrumptious prawn fettuccine. The restaurant was busy but had a good buzz to it despite its small size.

This is a really nice pub. Brews its own beer, cooks its own meals. Owners (not tenants, not managers) are a local couple who want to make this pub the centre of village social life which yet welcomes visitors. I haven't tried the rooms since I live in the village but I know the tradesmen who created them who tell me how nice they are. This is a happy place to eat and drink and (if you're a visitor) stay.

Reserved a table for Sunday lunch. Arrived on time and we were seated at a nice table overlooking the market square. Unfortunately that's where it ended. We were then totally ignored - not asked if we wanted a drink or even if we wished to see a menu. We sat there for over 20 minutes and then left. A shame that such a nice place should be let down by such poor service.
