Warkworth has a small nucleus of great places to eat, and we'd never tried Bertrams, so we went. It was a no brainer given the quality of other reviews. The only downside was that we had to get in and out early so were nearly the first people in hence little "atmosphere" but that was our agenda not the restaurant, and we were there for the food... ... which was first class. Superb hake served with a beautiful herby crab pate and dauphinoise potatoes. The flavours were immense and everything was cooked to perfection. You notice the difference with real quality and top chef standards and this delivered for me. The lemon meringue dessert was the proverbial icing on the metaphorical cake. Superb.

I visited Bertram's yesterday and had a fantastic afternoon tea. The food and tea were great and the arrangements for safety and separation were very good. The only possible criticism was that the slice of cake was too big - definitely a fault in the right direction.

We popped into Bertram’s for lunch today, during a downpour. We received a warm welcome with good Covid measures in place. The cafe has been thought out and decorated beautifully. We had local crab and salmon sandwiches, which were delicious, followed by huge slices of cake - carrot, and caramel biscoff! We were also impressed with the takeaway hatch they have set up. Would highly recommend.

We had lunch here before tacking Warkworth Castle. On the main street in the town we found Bertram's, The staff were delightful, our lunch of goat's cheese, basil and tomato quiche were good value and very good. We took a generous slice of lemon and blueberry cake away for post castle consumption, that was great too. Very glad we found this cosy little place! Our cappachinos could have been a wee bit hotter.

We had a lovely evening meal at Bertram's bistro. Just had main courses - one lamb, one pork - but the portions were so generous, we could not have managed more. Our meals were excellent - good quality, well cooked and well presented. The staff were very friendly. The place was warm and cosy, with a nice atmosphere. Would certainly recommend a meal here but think you would need to book. We also visited during the day when Bertram's operates as a cafe. Very tasty soup and the cakes are fab! Wish it was close to where we live.

If Bertram’s didn’t exist someone would have to invent it!! It is a delightful place for food at any time. Excellent Covid compliance too. For a few weeks they have been open for dinner, reservations only. The staff are excellent and have been in all the years we have been coming here.Good holiday memories of faultless food and as a bonus most of it is locally sourced. For lovers of cake it is a veritable treasure trove. Twelve different types of cakes, fruit and cheese scones too. Since day one Bertram’s has been consistent in levels of food and quality.

A welcoming tearoom with good Coronavirus procedures in place. We visited about 3pm so can only comment on the daytime menu, I understand there is an occasional evening bistro menu. My husband and I both had quiche with salad (although my husband had wanted crab which had all gone!). The quiche was a good size and very tasty and seemed to be homemade. I then had the cream scone (2 small ones) and my husband had coffee and walnut cake, both delicious though the scones were probably not quite as fresh as they could be, given it was the end of the day. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxing.

Really enjoyed an evening meal with my wife in Bertrams bistro. Food excellent and good value given the quality and choice. Staff very nice. We were so impressed we wanted to book again but were refused as we wanted dogs with us (we had our meal in the company of our 2 labradors). Apparently we had been a mistake - despite the sign outside saying dogs welcome - the rules were dogs in the day but not nighttime EXCEPT if you were staying in Bertrams accommodation. The staff phoned the owners for advice and even commented how well behaved our dogs were ( they slept after a 10 mile walk). A real shame the owner managers seem to be inexperienced when handling customers. Good luck with the venture woof woof.

Enjoyed a fantastic meal at the newly opened bistro at Bertram's. Pleasing to see that the bistro makes use of local produce. Beetroot with blue cheese and Northumbrian ham hock terrine - both very tasty were followed by mains of trout and beautifully cooked lamb. All dishes were of the highest quality with portion sizes that left us too full to enjoy the tempting looking dessert list. Prices were very reasonable given the quality of fare on offer. Only open Thursday to Sunday - so get in quickly to try this place out.

Bertrams was recommended to us and didn't disappoint. Like many restaurants, they are now offering a takeaway option in addition to a sit-down menu. The takeaway is served through a window hatch which you ring for attention with a bell, quite fun. We opted for takeaway coffee and sandwiches which were served in individual boxes. The crab sandwiches were particularly good, if a little pricey. A good choice before visiting the castle.

After a frustrating rainy day in Northumberland we rolled up to Bertram's, waited in the short, well-managed entry queue for 10 mins and then entered into a world of deliciousness and impeccable hospitality. The staff were very professional, the Covid restrictions were carefully managed and the service was quick and friendly. The cakes here are TO DIE FOR - and from, as portions are LARGE! There is an excellent selection, and the savoury items (which we didn't have) look great too. The place is super-clean but not clinical, the atmosphere is relaxed, dogs and children are all welcome. We popped in for afternoon tea having rung ahead to discover it was walk in or take away only service. I was worried we would be waiting a while but actually we’re seated immediately. Bertram’s has never been overly seated so it still had the same warm atmosphere just with extra masks for the staff and hand sanitiser upon entry. The take out option is accessed via the window and even though today isn’t warm the open window didn’t make the place feel any cooler. The kids were both defeated by the amazing chocolate cake and a lovely afternoon tea for the grown ups provided more than enough food, so cake boxes were procured and we can continue to enjoy the experience later. Highly recommend a visit to Bertram’s for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea or early supper as it never disappoints.

Having never visited the area we were thrilled with this part of the world and will definitely returnBertram’s is a very stylish B and B with lovely rooms if a little compact size wise. The main disappointment was that I have twice emailed the proprietors asking whether or not the change in VAT would have impacted on the price of our trip. Now, I am not going to die in a ditch over the saving but at least we would have merited the courtesy of a reply. The breakfast had to be continental style in the room until the Covid restrictions are lifted and, whilst I am a full English guy, there was plenty to set us up for the day.

We have visited Bertram’s on several occasions. We like that our dog is always welcome. The food is fresh and tasty. However the portion sizes are getting smaller. I ordered the quiche (Brie, bacon and cranberry) served with;as, coleslaw and pickle. £7.95. What arrived was a decent sized slice of quiche accompanied by handful of dressed salad with only 1/4 of tomato in it. On the side was a small pot of pickle -enough as pickle. The coleslaw came is the same sized pot - it must have contained a small desert spoons worth, if that. The quiche had a couple of pieces of bacon in, but the Brie was missing in action. This is very poor value for money. It was not as advertised - quiche and salad but quiche with a small salad garnish. I’ll not be returning any time soon, which is a shame as the food is lovely and we have visited regularly up until this point.

Illy coffee served and a selection of homemade cakes to die for. One of us had the homemade soup with cheese scone - also recommended. The only downside was that because it is so popular there was a queue of people waiting for tables, we didn't feel comfortable lingering.

I overheard a conversation between two people in the Lake District about a coffee shop they had found in Warkworth, I made a mental note as we we staying in Amble a couple of month's later. Well their tip off was correct, this place is fantastic! It is do good we visited 3 times in a week, twice on one day on a walk from Amble to Alnmouth and back

Stayed overnight in all 5 rooms with extended family. Fantastically well looked after. Lovely cosy warm well appointed rooms on a wet weekend in October. Great breakfasts and a very warm welcome. We have stayed/eaten here umpteen times and love it.

Really loved coming here. The lady who served us was very sweet and friendly, the food was really tasty (had Maccaroni Cheese, some fries and tasty, locally-sourced bread), and the overall athmosphere of the restaurant was cozy and welcoming. If we're ever in this region again, we'd return to Bertram's!

Great food, lovely service. You can’t book - and at lunch time, expect to wait for a table - but the food is worth it. Lovely soups and breads- the cheese scones we had with our soup were amazing - and a heavenly seafood platter. Only regret was that we had no room for a homemade cake. Next time, we’ll have to rectify that.

This place is so popular, I hardly need to promote it any more. The staff are lovely and although we had to wait for a table, they were very efficient at getting us sat down. It was difficult to choose, from tasty burgers to fishcakes of smoked haddock. Not forgetting the famous Cullan Skink! I had a great bottle of Golden Plover (Allendale) whilst my companions appreciated the wine. All in all a good place to stop for lunch.
