Tyne Riverside Cafe in Northumberland

I have a very minor criticism: please use tongs when picking up the cakes and not with bare hands. I got a thumb print in my chocolate cake 🤢

Only tea this time!.,/./...full English today which was good...just wish the plates weren't stone cold.

Fabulous home cooked food, what a cracking surprise. I defy anybody to scoff the scones quickly - huge.

Canny little cafe, in a nice location

Came to this cafe after a long walk, the service was amazing and such lovely friendly staff.

Won't be going back.

Visited after Saturday morning Parkrun. Staff are really friendly, the food was lovely, huge portions and great price. And they are dog friendly too.

Buildings looks better in photos, definitely more like a cafeteria than cosy cabin, sticky tables and floors but at least it was dog friendly! Food was awful, egg was over done and crispy. Overloaded with sausage and item was missing. The sausages were massive. Way too much for a sandwich, quality was like rubber, probably why they give out more, definitely a quantity over quality. Coffee was trash! Everything is just cheap. If they bought quality produce and made the portion sizes smaller then they might be able to compete with the others cafes in the area. But for the price and quality of the food and drink you are better off travelling to one of the better ones in the area.

A nice cafe. I had a hot beef sandwich for lunch which was lovely. Reasonably priced and nice staff.

I heard good reviews but i think differently. As I entered the building reminded me of a youth club building. Sticky tables, had to find a non sticky. The food was OK, but swimming in mayonnaise. Cost £15 for everything. Definitely won't be going back. The coffee was good though.

Food is good (breakfasts are massive!) and reasonably priced. Dogs made welcome, but if you don't like dogs go upstairs as they are not allowed up there.

Great place for lunch if your out on Hadrian’s cycle path. Good food and friendly service. The bike racks however are out of sight if the cafe windows and I recently had a tool/spares kit stolen from here, fortunately the bike was very securely locked and I’d taken the smaller expensive computer, lights with me. Try to visit as a group so that someone can keep an eye on your belongings.

The breakfasts are fantastic and such good value for money. I’ve had a large breakfast on two visits and I couldn’t fault them. If you have a big appetite you won’t be disappointed.

Had a full English breakfast this morning, food was absolutely delicious, service was excellent, fantastic place to visit with a warming atmosphere 10/10.

Great food and drink as well as a great spot for a rest on a riverside walk. Slight downside was cafe seemed as if it needed better kitchen extraction, slight cooking smell.

What a fantastic little gem this place is. The food is great and brilliant value. Its all fresh and cooked on site including the cakes and bakes. It's in a beautiful location beside the Tyne River with local walks galore. So this is a perfect place to refuel after a long walk or to grab a quick cuppa when visiting the playpark. The staff are friendly and welcoming too.

A friendly cafe serving a good range of freshly made food and drinks, at prices which are fair these days. Good location on the NCN72 cycle route. A couple of tables outside, several more inside although it can get crowded. There are public toilets round the back.

We notified the cafe our cycling club were visiting, The staff made sure there was an area reserved for us, the are was very comfortable and the service was great. The food was even better, thanks to all the staff who looked after us on 25th February.

Nice place to go after finishing our walk. Been twice, within the space of a week. Rated 4 ⭐ as the first time it was noisy - not with people but with dogs. Second time, we could chat without raising our voices as any dogs present, were quiet.

This cafe has the most amazing selection of sweet treats. Spoilt for choice. The team are lovely people. Spotted someone having a breakfast will certainly be back for that. A nice warm welcome too.

Lovely place for a stop on a river walk. Has plenty to choose from. I was sick of hearing my dad bang on about scones and hot baguettes, so went and chose the sausage and onion baguettes. Well, they looked amazing. Loaded with chunky sausage and onion and coated in gravy....only to tuck into it and find it barely luke warm. Very disappointing. I'm not one to complain, so tucked in regardless. The coffee was nice though 👌

Scone Nirvana This wonderful caff, part of the Visitor Centre and right on the edge of the young Tyne ( lovely walk to Wylam) but even better is the food, all cooked fresh. Cakes home made and fabulous , but THE SCONES, THE SCONES! I am a crone who has consumed many a scone but I have never had one as sumptuously delicious as the fruity one I had the honour to consume here. Tears of joy as I recollect it in tranquillity.. The platonic ideal of a scone. Thank you the fabulous baking lasses of Tyne Riverside. Service great too.

Delicious filled baguettes and not expensive

Always a friendly welcome and fabulous food. Most important though.... a great cup tea and a drink for the dog after our exertions.

I'm a bit of a regular to this cafe, Kerry and the team do an amazing job. On a weekend they are really busy with parkrunners on the Saturday and Sunday, feeding hoards of hungry runners, also walkers and cyclists. The scones are HUGE and delish! Hands down the best NCC run park cafe, the cakes are amazing. My dog Dave loves it here, his favourite food stop!

Love this cafe, it's a great place for some good food and a cuppa after a walk along the riverside/spetchells or just for a meet up with friends and kids in the park! We've never had a bad meal from there and are always welcome when we visit.

What an amazing beautiful cafe. Staff are so lovely and service is second to none. What makes this cafe so special is the homemade food, all cooked on the premises. The scones are a must to try. Cakes too. Nothing bought in. Makes such a difference, especially when just brought out the oven.

We are so lucky to have this place! A lovely little cafe serving gorgeous homemade food at fantastic prices. Dog and child friendly. The fruit tarts are to die for, the scones are incredible and the cheeseburgers are simple but delicious. Oh, and the full English breakfast! You won't need to eat for the rest of the day! Staff are kind hard working and attentive to their customers, very homely. Top quality food. Love the sitting area upstairs where you can exchange books sit on a sofa and be out the way of the busy people. Dogs are welcome!

One of the best full english breakfasts I’ve had. Would really recommend it. Great location when our walking too.

We stopped here for coffee during our coast-to-coast cycle ride in June. We only ordered 3 coffees, 1 x latte, & 2 x black Americano and the young girl managed to get them wrong !!🙄 We got milk in all 3 and we had to take the 2 Americano back and get them remade because of a dairy intolerance. Lack of attention and interest, we won’t bother calling here again when&if we’re out that way. 👎👎

The riverside park is absolutely beautiful, wonderful walks and access to the stunning Tyne The cafe is worth a visit at the start of your visit and again at the end We were staying just across the river in Ovingham so just a short walk across the bridge to Tyne Riverside park The cakes and bakes are fantastic we also tried the breakfast which was excellent All the staff were very friendly. This is a real community hub we saw several people again and again Peaceful stunning scenery and great food

We are a group of military veterans who meet up and cycle on Thursdays. This week's ride brought us here where we stopped for refreshments. I have to say the bacon sandwiches were amazing and the staff were great . I think we'll become regular customers from now on . What a great find 👍

The best value caffe in the whole of the North East! The staff are some of the most down to earth and friendliest staff, and the portion sizes are absolutely huge! We had an issue with the eggs and a machine tripping in the kitchen but the staff went above and beyond and made us giggle. Absolutely outstanding!🥰

Wow!! Just left this great restaurant after a lovely walk in the sunshine along the banks of the Tyne. It’s clean and tidy, the staff very helpful and friendly, the cafe is also dog friendly. As for the food you will go a long way to better it for value for money (see photos). Hope to visit again before going home to Shropshire.

First and just as important I have to mention the people that work in this little gem of a cafe... they are cheerful, chatty and very friendly and you can tell they just love working there...and care a lot about the cafe . We walk along the river from Wylam with our dog Archie and always have to call in.... Their fruit scones, quiches, corned beef and mince and onion pies are delicious....cakes look amazing and it's all freshly baked.....Can't wait for our next walk there........👍👍

Great spot for a tea, coffee, a snack or even a proper fried breakfast, then you can burn it off with a walk along the Tyne. Cant get better than that.

We called in late afternoon and the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. Dogs are allowed inside and lovely hot drinks to warm us up. The cakes were all homemade and delicious. Will definitely call in again.

Fantastic cafe food on cycle route 72 staffed by pleasant and enthusiastic people. Home made cakes, well filled sandwiches with fresh side salad. Recommended for replacing calories used getting here by bike or on foot. Beware if you arrive by car - this will be your calorie allowance for the day.

A wee gem. Totally amazing food. Simple menu but grand helpings. Home baking is the best there is. Delicious cakes and tray bakes. Staff are so friendly. I was just visiting the area, I need to work out a reason to go back! Look out for it on Hadrian's way cycle route 72, at Ovingham

It’s ok. The food is quite cheap and quick but it’s nothing amazing. The drinks are decent. It’s in a good location though. Would go here if you were having a walk by the riverside but the Adam and the swan are miles better than this place.

Lovely friendly helpful staff make this a compulsory stop whilst walking the Spaniels. Great value food and dogs made to feel very welcome. Go - enjoy the scenery, the fresh air and walk to build up an appetite for a lovely pit stop.

We were at the Riverside Leisure Park for a birthday and decided we'd eat at the Riverside Bar. A great choice, so we decided to have our first evening meal there. The food we ordered was good but there was a slight mishap with one order, ordered fish and chips but received a burger instead. It was accepted with good grace by the person that ordered it and it got the evening off to a good start. Next day we had breakfast and the same waitress served us. (Bet she thought, Oh No, not them again!!). Our last day on Sunday (26 June 2022) we popped in for Afternoon drinkies. The same waitress was behind the bar when we created some cocktails and she must have thought we were a bit nuts. First one was a Blue Raspberry Slushie with double shot of Vodka, Second one was Vimto Slushie with double Disarono, Third one was Vimto Slushie with Coconut Dead Man's Fingers and Archers, Fourth one was Vimto Slushie and 1 shot Disarono and 1 shot Coconut Dead Man's Fingers, Last one was Blue Raspberry Slushie with Banoffee Dead Man's Fingers and Coffee Dead Man's Fingers (which changed colour - I said it had gan green!!!). As there was more slushie than alcohol, we didn't get the least bit tipsy, but we had a great afternoon. I can say, absolutely, that the staff at the Caravan Park and the Riverside Bar were the absolute tops. Thank you for making our holibobs perfect.
