We stumbled upon this place after a photo shoot we’d been doing at Simonside and thought it looked nice. Inside it’s very clean, comfortable and modern, we were slightly taken by surprise when we asked about food and we were told that they don’t start serving food until 5pm, this was on a Sunday afternoon and we thought that it was a total missed opportunity as if they did a Sunday carvery people would be travelling from far and wide to have it as I can imagine the food being nice here. What place describing itself as a bar and grill doesn’t serve food until 5pm!? I was personally also taken aback when we arrived and me being 7 and a half months pregnant I asked for a coffee and the barmaid said, “is it decaf?” I said, “well no I’d like caffeine” and the facial expression was a bit of a smirk and looking down at me, I felt judged for being heavily pregnant and asking for a non decaf coffee which is totally my choice. The coffee was so mild and weak that I felt she had given me decaf despite me saying caffeinated. My friend asked if they did bar snacks (maybe the barmaid thought she meant hot snacks) and she replied no but when my friend looked over the bar they had crisps and nuts so we asked if we could have some. Overall a lovely pub in a lovely setting but slightly judgemental and odd behaviour from a member of staff which for me was a little off putting. We’re unsure if we’ll be back but it’s a nice place to stop if you’re travelling back from a walk nearby.

This is an excellent bar with great food and friendly staff. It has an ‘adults only’ section with log burner and settees if that’s what you like but they also have a larger area with a small stage for acts and an enclosed soft play area for kids. The doors at the back lead out to a great playground for kids. Attached to their static caravan park they have acts on most ‘holiday time’Saturday evenings and do lots of charity raising with things like bingo etc. There is also a pool table. Always very keen and tidy and the toilets are kept to a high standard. Sunday lunch is a carvery that we love!

Having read some good reviews we decided to pay a visit. It is well off the beaten track, very new looking, and was outwardly clean and tidy. It had a large seating area, a kid zone, an outside play area and a pool table (more later for this). The staff, two young men were very pleasant and polite. The menu was quite good, with loads of choices. We ordered bake potato for the two children and a Balti Chicken and Chicken Sizzler. The food arrived in a good time, the place was not busy. The baked potato, beans and cheese were very good but the chicken meals were very bland. The chicken did not contain any of the spices it should have been cooked in, I think it may have been microwave from frozen and dropped into the sauce. It was as if it was prepared with a "blander". Very disappointing as it promised so much more. The sticky toffee pudding, also microwave looking, was very enjoyable. The pool table, £10 deposit per cue and a cost of 70p per game was shocking and unusual. They must have a lot of thievery in the pubs with pool table setups here. Quite a disappointment to be truthful.

Wasted Journey, rang before we left home to check what the timings were for a Sunday roast. We were told we could arrive until 15.00 and that they were serving until this time. We arrived 13.30 and put our 2 adult meal orders in for the carvery to be then told they had a group booking and they needed to keep the rest of the food for the booking, when I explained I rang to check on the way here they said the booking communication had not been past on to the person who answered the phone.

The play park is great fun, clean, well maintained and the staff were lovely and helpful. The venue is very welcoming, the food was ok and we were very happy that they let us have a small portion from the main menu for our little one as the children's menu was very limited in options of a healthy choice. At the end of our visit we realised that the smoking area was the play park which was a huge disappointment, as there is an adults only bar/lounge I'm sure there would be a way to put the smoking area away from the play park .

The staff and maintenance team all do a fantastic job in keeping the park up to date and very clean and tidy. All the seasonal pitch owners are lovely and all look out for each other in time of need, it really is like one big family onsite. Second time staying here with tourer. Easy to book and check in a breeze. Quiet time of the year so not really busy, clean, immaculate toilet facilities and well manicured pitches. Only gripe was pitch 14 is quite away from the “services” and thankfully the ehu reached but the water pipe did not. It would be a suggestion to paint up the hump to the entrance of touring pitch as twice I stumbled forgetting it was there. Adequately lit, just a reminder to lift your feet a bit higher. Would return. Highly recommended and the bar/grill had the same staff and just as nice as our previous visit.

In arrival they want £20 for a key fob (barrier entrance/toilet access) not a problem but a warning in advance when booking would have been helpful. Pitch was ok, apart from being near the bar/kids play area we were out Saturday night but on Sunday night we stayed in but we may as well have been pitched in a primary school yard the noise was unbelievable from screaming kids. Plus side at 9.00pm it was as quiet as a grave :) (park closes). Next time I will ask for a pitch as far away as possible from the playpark. Plus points Adult only bar, food was good. Site is well kept. Toilets and showers nice. Negatives - leaving was a problem nowhere to park up as get through the barrier to take the fob back so pulled to one side, went in and they want the map back as well! So have to climb over a fully packed van to get the bloody thing out the window (they forget to tell us that on arrival). Yes I would come back again on the quiet season oh and no Tv signal either.

Although I haven't tried the the food there I have been told by a few people on the food is very good. A well aquiped play aeria & football aeria for children. The only fault I could find was that were some of the hookup & drainage points were not in the best place for getting a large caravan in & out & you needed extra long gray water pipe to reach the drain. I have been told they are going to rectify that. The park is under new ownership so they are learning as they go. I enjoyed my stay there, so I have booked again for August bank holiday

Nigel and the team have been very helpful with the transition and we love the location being just 20 minutes from beaches and many other places to visit including the fantastic dinosaur golf at the garden centre nearby. The new bars and restaurant are lovely serving good food and the range of food is increasing weekly. Our grandchildren love the freedom and using the new play area. A swimming pool would be a fantastic addition and you never know maybe something for the future. It has been mentioned the park closes at 9pm this is could be confusing as it is only the external play area that closes at 9, but nothing to stop children playing by their caravans.

poor experience of what used to be a great family park.Stayed with friends, after many years ago, having a static caravan here- wondered what it would be like now, since so much was promised, as a 5* park.It felt like the heart had been ripped out the park, with most the long stay residents of yesterday having moved out- now I know why!Previously the park had a vibrant friendly feel to it, where tourers were welcomed and families all joined in organised activities. yes there was football on live in a packed out bar during the season, and the Hamilton family who then owned it, were like extended family to all.On my most recent visit, lots of vans were empty, no one appeared to speak to each other and the bar for a pint, and to watch football was no more. It appears the new owners want a "better clientele on site"- I was even told that by a member of staff! (now that's snobbish!)- but its their park, and they can do what they like to it, and I know its a work in process- but by gum- its gone downhill fast!I saw a few people out and about, but if I had the money to invest in a holiday home again, Id want to feel friendly with the neighbours, and enjoy a night outside sharing drinks, and having a laugh- alas no more of that here!

Will definitely not forget this campsite in a hurry. On our way south and saw this in our campsite book. Had reasonable reviews online so we phoned and booked for one night. Didn't need electric but told all pitches were serviced (hookup, water, waste water). Cost was £25 to be paid upfront by card. Non-refundable. Bit steep as Camping and Caravan Club sites are around £14 but website showed great views with bar, restaurant, laundry etc so booked it.On arrival we paid our £10 deposit for keycard to gate and toilets and were shown to our pitch.Site is basically in the middle of nowhere. Fields all around. Telescope required for views. It was static home city! There was one other 'tourer' on site, the rest of the caravans were obviously permanent. We could only use the electric as like many/most motorhomes we didn't have the adaptors to connect to the fresh and waste water. We couldn't see any fresh water taps around then found reception and all other staff disappeared promptly at 5.00pm.Also tried to report that smoke alarm was beeping in ladies toilet but no one around. The advertised motorhome service point (with a big sign) on the site had a large boulder over the very rusty drain so was unusable. The bar and restaurant were closed and only opened fully at weekends and on Wed/Thurs nights. Luckily we had food with us. The laundry was closed for refurbishment. There was free WiFi but as you had to give email address etc to sign on I suspect I'll get lots of spam as a result. The WiFi service was poor to non-existent.We later went online and found out that you could pay £40 for 4 days so we paid 250% more for our one night with no facilities apart from toilets etc. We complained when we left that most of the facilities advertised were unavailable, which should have been mentioned when we booked, but were met with indifference.Very disappointing and one of the worst/most expensive sites I've ever been on in over 30 years of camping.

On first site the camp (country park) looks fine. However, we soon learned that it had been recently purchased by the Maguire family and they had plans for redevelopment. We booked a fully serviced pitch but upon arrival found no TV access and the signal from our caravan extremely poor. The WIFI was also erratic with at best 60% strength signal. We found it strange that so many pitches at this time of the year were vacant, particularly as the site is situate conveniently for Cragside, Wallington etc. Of the 2 washing up basins in the block near to us, only one was fully functional, the other needing plumbing attention. The shower block was fine, apart from the water being far to hot to stand under. Our hard standing pitch required extra long pegs to secure the awning (we assume the same applied to other pitches). We wont be visiting this site again.
