Didn't have food, but fast service, nice kind welcoming atmosphere on my first visit, will certainly be coming back.

Great local pub. Watched CariSoul band live! Great band, great beer, great vibe! Good times, good memories!

Great bands and BBQ in the garden Sunday afternoons weather permitting.

We did not eat here as we were just having a drink en route. The service was friendly and the lady behind the bar brought the Guinness over to the table. It was a Saturday late afternoon but the pub was quiet so no real atmosphere but I would return.

Amazing live music, rocking barbecue!

I love old pubs and have used the lion off and on for many years. As it had changed hands I thought I would pop in for a quick pint. I was disappointed to find a group of people at the bar all vaping using foul language, racist and homophobic comments openly and quite loud. I'm all for free speech and personal opinions but sometimes these need to be not so publicly aired. I finished my drink and will not be returning.

I had a swift pint in the Golden Lion on a walk from Broxbourne to Hoddesdon. The pub had quite a few customers but wasn't uncomfortably crowded. I was served without a long wait and the pint wasn't too expensive. I shared a tablewith a couple of guys by the big window looking out onto the main road. In all a pleasant place to stop...

Love this place, was great to go back and kids play area was fabulous in the sunshine. Would be better in the shade but appreciated newly taken over. Great service and drinks delicious. Glad to see the tyre swing still going!

A bit of a hidden gem this one, albeit hidden in plain site. We stepped in last Sunday for lunch prior to a show at The Spotlight. The service was attentive and friendly, I'm told the Guinness was great, and all the food we had was great, including the roast, a baguette, a lasagne and my ham, egg and chips which was actually two thick slices of the roast gammon. Recommended.

Went here with friends for a Sunday roast , the food was amazing . Big portions and lots of variety It was a homely atmosphere, the staff were really friendly . Good value for money

The best Sunday roast ever - quality ingredients and cooked amazingly. The beef was pink, the pork juicey, the veg, roast pots and Yorkshire excellent. The landlord and landlady so friendly and welcoming. You have to visit this pub

Friendly staff and customers. Great music.

Went to see a band and parked in their car park. It not free (AS ADVERTISED), it permit holders only..... Not even parking notice and right of appeal, straight to threats. Maybe just lost in post! Paid up, not worth the effort as threats come after appeals period. Ruined what had been a good night out.

Cosy local pub with Sunday roast all meats and trimmings

We are new to the area and went today for a Sunday roast. The service was fantastic and the food was unbelievable! (Especially the dessert yummy) Made us feel really welcome and at home…will defiantly be going back! Thanks guys x

Really down to earth, fun and friendly boozer with a great garden, serving good food and with a fresh seafood stall outside. Occasional live music - The Fabulous Feedback Band were absolutely amazing!!

Ordered drinks at bar after parking in car park at rear pub as picking up couple family members there yes I did notice couple signs up but wasn't told to register my vehicle even though I told the landlady I was in beer garden and parked in caf park ?? So paid £60 as by time fine come to my address I was Working away from home and rang pub when returned to question parking fine to just get As you paid Can't help you Well maybe you should tell new Customers that you need to Register Vechicle in future and they might Drink and eat at you pub in the future and you won't keep closeing new customers 👍

Just had a tasty Sunday lunch out with the family . We chose the roast . Great selection of meats and the food was delicious. Very generous servings and all freshly cooked . Service was amazing . Prices really reasonable . Will definitely return .

The pub is old and could do with a refurb it's stale and smells it, get rid of the old smelly carpet. Its a shame as the music was good and the 2 guy's behind the bar were very good and fun they make the evening.

I popped in twice on a Saturday night out with my female friends. My first impression was that it's a man's pub. There was live music and quite a crowd. The average age of customers appeared to be 50+. The second time we popped by, the pub had quietened and people were emptying out. We found the staff to be warm and friendly and the remaining customers to be comfortable regulars.

Lovely meals. The roast is superb and they have homemade desserts. A mistake was quickly rectified. Cosy country pub with a lot of original features.

I've spent many a happy lunch time and evening drinks and snacks, when I worked at the Classified group of newspapers back in the 80s. I met my second wife there, anyone can make a mistake.

Most unfriendly bar staff wouldn't even give a number for a mini cab firm even though we had ordered a drink

We don’t go here often but when we do there is always a friendly atmosphere. It’s quite small, but the live music is good.

Had a lovely roast dinner of lamb and my husband had lamb/beef/pork,absolutely beautiful dinner,felt & tasted like a home cooked roast. Followed by Syrup sponge & spotted dick and custard. Would highly recommend,lovely hosts 👍🏻

Had a delicious Sunday roast here, staff were welcoming and friendly. Landlady couldn’t have been more helpful, nothing was too much trouble and to top it off there was live music in the garden! Definitely be going back when in the area.

Has a reputation to be a bit clique'y. Sadly it is the general sensed atmosphere. Me, I can tense myself to overcome this ambience atmosphere. But MANY others do not. Hence, an avoidance. Shame, it does have good potential. Not a covid-19 occurrence! Could Do Better! 😉👍 I very seldom go in The Golden Lion. 🤣 I'm too large/fat for the place. It's okay in the Summer, I fit in the outdoor garden bit. I wanna like the pub, but there's something, mmm, not quite right f'r me. And in talking to others, in other pubs, they say the same. 🤔 So I know it ain't just me. I went in there t'day. It wasn't busy, so I fitted in the pub!🤣🤔🏅👍 It's got BETTER! Newcomers and old customers, are talking, and smiling at each other. This itself pleasing and encouraging the proprietors/publicans. Yes, IT'S GOT GOOD! 👍😉😃

The Golden Lion is a friendly pub and their Sunday lunches are terrific value. I counted NINE different veg on my wholesome plate, served quickly and it was stunning. Lovely relaxing atmosphere, and very good service. Highly recommended.

We have just returned from what I would say was one of the best Lunches we have had My wife chose the Roast Lamb and I had the Liver and Bacon. Both meals were delicious. A very good selection of vegetables. The deserts we had were homemade . That's very unusual these days. The proprietors were really lovely and helpful I would definitely recommend this Lovely old Pub dating back to 1535 It's very unusual to find a good old traditional British Pub with a really good English Menu

We have just moved back to the area and we were looking for a pub with traditional home cooked food. Great menu, we had the roast beef and it was delicious. Tender meat, crispy roast potatoes and well risen homemade Yorkshire pudding. Crumble for dessert, what more could you ask for! Landlady and landlord very welcoming. We will definitely return and recommend to friends and family.

After sat in the house with all this covid stuff, we finally decided to get out and try to have a day of it. After trolling the town with my kids looking for pizza, we first tried the star, their machines were on the Fritz and they didn't have much food on, strike one, then we tried the swan, didn't serve kids, I saw that from the sign but it was reinforced by the look of the lady as I walked it to try my luck. So we walked up to the golden lion. I walked in and was created by a smile. I asked if they served kids and she said yes. I explained what we had gone through and she said simply, I have pizza and a climbing frame out the back in the beer garden. Highly recommended. It was like sitting In a friendly neighbours back garden. We had a lovely afternoon. Fabulous club sandwich and the kids gave it 5 stars. Will be adding this to a routine. Thankyou for a lovely afternoon. See you soon.

We sat in the garden. Food, beer & service were all fabulous. We had the scampi & fish & chips. We hadn’t been to the pub for 25 years as we have moved away. We were made so welcome by the landlady. Definitely worth a visit.

This ancient pub is run to an exceptionally high standard by the current team. Recently we had family celebration with Sunday roast and pudding in the pub garden Nothing was too much for all of the staff.

We’re fussy with our roast dinners but this was spot on. A big choice of meats on offer and 10 different veg on the plate! Including homemade cauliflower cheese and Yorkshire puddings. Just the right amount so we could fit a dessert in, again all homemade and a big choice. To finish the band started so we had to stay for another bottle of wine! Definitely recommend.

We visit this pub fairly regularly and are always greeted with friendly staff and a great atmosphere. Traditional Sunday roast is a must try, today as always delicious yum yum 😋 enjoyed by the whole family

Excellent afternoon and fabulous live music

Nice cosy and friendly pub with a comfortable garden which has a covered area for damp days. Also has a handy serving window at the end of the bar so that you don't have to keep traipsing in and out. Never tried the food, but everything I've seen (and smelled!) appears really good.

My band played this venue Sunday afternoon in their garden. The crowd were great, landlord is a top bloke.

Lunch on Friday with friends always a high point at The Golden Lion and good food. IPA best real ale in town and high standards maintained. Can’t beat the warmth from open fire and good company here.

There is some sort of parking scam going on. I parked in car park and entered my registration inside the pub yet have received a £100 PCN!! Fuming. I’ve appealed with bank statements to show I was at the pub but it’s been rejected? I’ll be taking this further
