Whether you are looking for quality traditional pub food or dishes with a fine dining Mediterranean flair this menu will fulfill all taste and appetite requirements with their options of small or large dishes. We eat here regularly and always enjoy working our way through their new menus, as do friends and family who also have them at the top of the list for a great meal out. Excellent value on both food and drinks menus.

Had Sunday lunch with the family. Five of us, all had a different meal .WOW! Every meal was superb. What a lunch. Our three and a half year old grandson is allergic to egg and soya. After we had mentioned this a chef arrived to ask what he would like (Sunday Roast) and perhaps to offer an alternative. Then the Head Chef Fabio appeared to check if everything was fine. Of course our grandson couldnt have yorkshire pudding (which he doesnt like anyway) They said they would cook his potatoes in a different oil and make him some separate gravy. Nothing was too much trouble. All the staff were great. We cant wait to go again. Would highly recommend, Definitely a place to visit. Thank you to all.

Excellent service and delicious Sunday lunch!Starter of belly pork with crackling, roast potatoes and garlic & herb sauce was Michelin Star quality but larger.Traditional roast beef and/or turkey with all the trimmings really hit the spot. Excellent selection of deserts if you can find room after the splendid main course. This is a fantastic country pub offering stunning quality food, excellent local ales (Milltown Brewery) and first class service! Have eaten at Brosters farm shop cafe up the hill, which owns this pub, I believe, lots of times. Due to the cafe having reopened at the farm shop being so busy today, which is now called Graze, we decided not to wait 40 minutes for a table but to eat at the pub instead. We were very glad we did. The pub was adhering well to Corona virus precautions, we were asked our contact details on entry & to sanitize our hands, the tables were spaced well apart so we felt as safe as you can be at the moment. The menu was quite limited but enough for the 3 of us, myself & my husband ordered the steak & ale pie, 1 with mushy peas, 1 with garden peas both with chips. The pie was enormous ! Big, tender chunks of meat with delicious pastry, so big that I couldn't finish it all & the chips were excellent too. You can get a smaller portion of most of the meals too for half the price. Our son's prawn linguine off the specials list was excellent, really authentic Italian & a good size. We all really enjoyed the food and were glad we'd tried the Fleece, it wasn't cheap but it was a lovely filling meal & we would definitely return.

Rang 10 minutes before arriving to check if they could fit us in and they did. places are extremely busy as got turned away from 2. i could see when we arrived although quiet the diary was full so grateful to be given a table. shared a garlic bread (big round one) to start and was more than enough and lovely. the young lad assigned to our table was a cutie, he at a young age was a credit to your establishment. he explained why things were different and how he couldn’t just hand over certain things. steak pie and fish n chips for main and my husband couldn’t even finish his. i had the small steak pie not the regular size and was advised i wouldn’t be disappointed with the size and i wasn’t, there was loads. my husband refused a dessert so i ordered 2 ha ha and oh my they were yummy, actually i could have ordered every one on the menu, they were all my favourites. i must add and this is a big add that they serve new zealand marlborough sauvignon blanc by the glass....you literally don’t find this hardly anyway as normally wine by the glass is pretty naff. Can’t wait to go with kids when rules are relaxed slightly and sit outside.....so glad we ventured out of Ripponden. Thank you

Try taking a food order it’s not difficult....On arrival nearly 5 minutes to order 2 drinks. Twice had to state we had a booking. 45 minutes to take our order. There was only two of us. The elderly lady actually came to our table to tell us she would be taking a party’s order first ? Really. She needs to smile! 3 times I asked to order food. On arrival no smile no nothing. This place was a joke. It will be a long time before I return. Table 15 FYI. On this basis no tip left which was a shame. The food was actually ok but the visit spoilt by your useless elderly waitress.....NOT GOOD ENOUGH AND A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. Also a date night 2 stars and won’t be back anytime soon. Kids been allowed to run round the restaurant at 945pm. It’s not a hungry horse. Get a grip guys. Such a shame. Make it one star on reflection.

Visited Thursday evening. Nice location and restaurant. Food excellent however several mistakes on the bill. The waitress was very abrubt and wearing far to many rings for my liking. Studies have found that the concentration of microorganisms increases with the number of rings worn and people who wear rings have higher colony counts before and after washing their hands. Sould a waitress handling cutlery and serving food be allowed to wear so many, I think not.

On a Thursday evening there were only 4 tables taken in the restaurant, but it took over 45 minutes to take our order. This is not the first time this has happened. No one in this pub has a clue what customer service means. There were three staff on, one behind the bar and two on tables. We were shown to our table and the lady behind the bar brought us menus and took a drinks order. The drinks arrives 5 minutes later. We kept asking one of the waitresses to take our order, but she told us it was the other who did this. After about 40 minutes the bar lady came to our table asking if we wanted more drinks, but seemed taken aback when we replied that all we wanted at that stage was food.Eventually after almost 50 minutes and asking 3 times our order was taken. This has happened on a couple of times before and someone senior needs to give the staff a severe kick up the backside.

Not as it was on line and consisted of poor sheets of paper on a board. The staff were a mixture of young and older.. the young ones clueless in serving people. To be fair my beef dinner was ok. We booked in as a family of 5 for Sunday dinner. Firstly they tried to put us at a table for 4 despite pre-booking. When we pointed this out there was a discussion between staff and they managed to find us a table to seat 5. When the meals were being served the young waiter passed my husbands meal over our heads (rather than walking around where there was plenty of space to serve the meal). He split a jug of gravy that was on the plate over 4 of us which smashed onto the middle of the table. It splashed my daughter in the face and covered us with gravy. All over my two daughters clothing, all over me and my clothes and also all over my husband who was wearing his favourite white shirt! Appalling service, why didn't he walk around and serve the meal in a proper fashion. So okay, accidents happen right? So me and my daughters went to the toilet to try and wipe up a bit, all rather shocked at what had just happened. I came back out whist my daughters kept trying to clean themselves up and we had been left with all the meals on the table and no staff in sight. No-one came back at all to clean up the table. So we had a table full of meals, gravy all over the table it was absolutely swimming in it, knives and forks in disarray etc where the pot had crash landed, our faces and clothing splattered in gravy. Still no-one came back to the table at all. No attempts to clean up, check on us. Just left. On a filthy table. So I'm now looking around in disbelief, is no-one really going to clean this up at all, or check on us, or perhaps even apologise? The young waiter at the time said oh I'm sorry, but no manager coming over to deal with what was clearly a 'situation' and no help at all offering to clean us / the table up. Absolutely unbelievable. Just left. I then manged to find a waiter cleaning an empty table (only two tables away from us, why wasn't he helping us??). By then eventfully hearing my now raised voice another clearly more senior waiter came over and started to clear up the table. Too little too late by this point I just couldn't believe that they had just expected us to sort ourselves out and for us to eat dinner with gravy splashed all over our clothing on a table covered (yes really really covered) in gravy.. Another waiter then came over and asked if we should be moved to another table (there were several free) and the main waiter said oh yes that's a good idea. Really? You think? Wow, too much time had passed by then. So we left. Outside the owner by this point had clearly become aware of the 'situation' and came out to apologise.

Have just got home from having a delightful birthday lunch with my husbands mum. We drove up from the Midlands to take her out for lunch and she chose this place. We met her there and we were first to arrive. A lovely warm welcome and drinks given we went into the restaurant. It was a strange table as in it could only sit 3 people because of a pillar taking the 4th seat but it was perfect for us. We all ordered starters and mains and didn't have long to wait before they arrived. I had the garlic prawns and they were absolutely delicious. Mum in law the pate and my husband chose the mushrooms. He said they were lovely . Plates collected we had just the right wait for our mains. I chose the small Beef Sunday lunch It was massive!!! I checked twice that it was the smaller one of the 3 choices. Hubby had Gammon and said the meat and chips were gorgeous. Birthday girl had the fish pie and it looked and tasted lovely she said. We were all far too full for desserts which seemed such a shame. 2 small bottles of prosecco, pint of their own brewed beer, soda and black current and a bit for £64 which we thought was very good value. So next time we are back up visiting her this will be our place of choice. Thank you for a lovely lunch

I found it hard to cut into it , our friends also had an amount of fat that they had to leave . We mentioned it to the waitress , and she then told the kitchen staff . On her return she said it had a vein running through the 5oz steak that was why it was hard to cut into . We had a drink in the bar before we got our taxi and mentioned it again when asked if everything was all right . We did feel disappointed that no one seem bothered .

Came here for a family meal with 10 of us for a 70th birthday ... Seems there is a familiar feeling around highchairs .... Why has a pub like this serving nice food not got highchairs ? I asked one of the young lads and he turned to me and said 'people usually bring their own' .... seriously? People Walk in the pub with highchairs in there hands ! My bill came to £171 for us all and I'm expected to bring my own high chair !!! Ended up sending mine back to be kept warm Whilst I held our baby and my partner had her food ... And then I had to eat on my own. Really disappointed and will not be returning which is a shame but I don't understand that in 2019 a pub can't be baby friendly ... They obviously just don't want kids in there it's as simple as that ! What I did eat was really nice but it really made it an awful experience and I feel they need to get in the real world because couples (which they obviously want to cater for) will disappear but more and more families eat out with there children which they obviously aren't interested in.

We visited as a pre-booked party of 26 for an 80th birthday. The food was great with generous portions, very reasonably priced. However the organisation could have been better, with food arriving in batches (with diners waiting for gravy, chips etc. whilst their food was going cold). We also had to repeatedly explain to a member of staff the difference between Gammon and Steak as he tried to present it to us. There was limited Sunday lunch availability, which meant most of the party had to choose a second choice option from the menu. There are no high chairs or baby changing facilities, with a member of staff advising that there wasn’t a changing table but there was plenty of room on the toilet floor(!) (this is the only place we’ve been that doesn’t have baby change facilities, and we visit lots of places). The lights in the toilet are on a timer so mid way through changing baby we were plunged into darkness. Overall the lack of facilities and disorganised service made for a poor experience which is a shame given the food was lovely.

Had a meal a few days ago with my wife and daughter and all 3 meals were excellent. We shared a garlic pizza bread to start with and a beef Carpaccio which were superb. Then we had main course's which were excellent, I had the fish pie and it was amazing will definitely be having it again cooked to perfection.

in laws birthday booked a table. A lot of work been done to this old pub now much bigger with waiting area for diners nice atmosphere great staff no waiting for drinks large dining area all new, so the reason for a 3 - the menu was a little confusing ie pie with lid and pie without lid ie in a giant Yorkshire pudding usually my fav. plus all the normal pub grub suspects. Th efood did take a little while to come it was Saturday and the 2nd day they had been open after refurb. my meat pie arrived (with lid) the meat was absolutely delicious but the lid was not puff pastry but resembled bread ! the fish pie 1 of our other diners had did not resemble any fish pie I had seen before we did make a comment to the waiter after we had finished to which he would mention it to the kitchen. I am sure they will get this right and go on to be the place to go in the area.

We’ve visited the Golden Fleece on several occasions for food and drink and every single time the service let’s it down. We’ve always found the food to be lovely, good sized portions for a reasonable price. The service is appalling though, there are always plenty of staff but no organisation whatsoever. We had to order drinks twice as none appeared after the first time of asking. The same happened with the dessert menus. Then as we were leaving one of the waiters appeared with our drinks that we’d ordered about half an hour earlier so we sent them back as we’d finished our meal and were ready to leave. It could be amazing but they really need to sort their service out.

Four of us visited the restaurant on a Wednesday evening. Three of us ordered Fish and Chips, one with mushy peas. One of us also ordered some garlic bread. Fish was ok but very surprised it was not served with proper chips, instead we were presented with a bowl of potato wedges which were very dry and looked and tasted like warm ups. Mushy peas were in a big ball which you could slice through as they also were very dry. Waiter asked if everything was ok and he seemed annoyed when I said the potato wedges were not nice and that we were expecting chips. He said he would mention it to the chef and that was the last we heard about it, also the garlic bread did not arrive, we didn't mention it and I am not quite sure if this was on the bill as I didn't pay. The drinks and the bar area were nice but I won't be rushing back to the restaurant.

Decent pub food and nice atmosphere. Service was good. Was grateful for a good selection of vegetarian and vegan options clearly marked on menu. Was disappointed there were no High chairs for my 8 month old daughter so we had to take turns to eat so someone could hold her which wasn’t ideal. Also would be great to have baby changing facilities.

We have been here several times and last time posted a 5 star review. Sadly tonights experience was severely lacking. I had the parmesan basket and my husband had the small garlic and tomato pizza bread. The pizza bread was thick and doughy, certainly not thin and crispy as described. The quails eggs were way over cooked. We didnt complain as we knew we were gonna enjoy the main course. Last time we had regular calves liver it was enormous so my husband ordered small this time......he had one thin strip and a very small square piece....no more than a quarter of the regular portion he had before and nowhere near enough meat for the mash.

Came here a few months back for Sunday lunch and was superb, came here again today and really was disappointed with food. Meals not consistent with sizes ie amount of veg on plates. Lamb very fatty. Yorkshire puds terrible, burnt and dry. On the plus side gravy was nice. Was really looking forward to my meal because it’s not somewhere you could go every week as prices are above average but don’t think I will be heading back in a hurry:( then to top of off had a hair on the pudThe main reason I have rated a 3 is because the staff were great, friendly and welcoming.

Visited here as a couple for an evening meal. Eating section was about half full but service was still slow. Plenty of staff there but mostly on the young side with plenty of effort but not overly productive. It took about 10 minutes before we were even given menus - which we had to ask for - and rather longer to get drinks with larger groups arriving after us getting attended to before us. When the food eventually arrived it was plentiful and tasty, so much so that we will probably give this venue a second chance to see if we get better service next time. For the moment though this remains the only restaurant I've eaten in where, when asked to remove the side plates as we were not using them, the young waiter declined to do so as he could not spare the time as he had to rush back to the kitchen to serve meals. Who would have thought the weight of a couple of small plates and two knives would have made such a difference to the overland speed of a young gentleman!

We eat out 5 lunchtimes a week so we have been to most places locally. The food at the Fleece is not only excellent, it is consistently good. We have not had a bad meal in the 2 months we have been going there and now we go regularly twice a week. I know of only two other pub/restaurants in the area where food is up to this standard but what sets the Fleece apart is the staff, who including the landlady, are very pleasant, friendly and accommodating. There is nothing to touch this pub for all round appeal.
