Attended a birthday meal here and the food was amazing, but soooo much of it. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the whole atmosphere was really relaxed. Would definitely recommend.

We visit this pub at least once a year as family are living in the village. The staff are always friendly and the food has always been fantastic every time we’ve visited. We’d definitely recommend The Golden Dog for family occasions. Thank you for another fabulous Christmas dinner, pudding was taken home as we were all stuffed like our stockings.

Visited the pub this evening after reading the good reviews. Me and hubby & our 16 month old baby were celebrating the purchase of my new car. Our reservations were at 7.30pm but we arrived at 7.10pm.We ordered our drinks at the bar carried our drinks to our table. There were only us and another table of 6 adults & 2 kids and that was it in the whole dining area. We were seated but were told after 20 minutes that there was a “little” delay. They did not even take our orders. I then walked to the bar to order my little one’s food. Just before 8pm still no one took our orders, hubby went to the bar to order our food and check on our little boys food. At 8.20 after an hour & 10 min our starters arrived with our little boys food.We asked how long would our mains take? The answer was another 20 min. We were so hungry that we finish our starters quite fast. The starters were acceptable but nothing in the wow section. Our mains arrived at 9pm. Which was double the 20 min they said it would. I order the seafood platter & hubby ordered the Rump Steak. It was so DISAPPOINTING. The Rump steak look like it was dried and burnt & my seafood platter looked like frozen stuff fried up and put on the plate.I lost all appetite & we were way pass our little boy’s bed time. We asked for boxes to take away our food so we don’t waste it and at least our doggy could eat it. Hubby complained to the owner and he did not even bother to give a reasonable discount for the horrible experience and food we had but kept saying they were a staff short and the won best pub food. I think that could have been 20 years ago... or in their dreams.I could understand that they were a staff short but at least let us know how long the delay would be & not just saying a “little” or only 20 min which were lies. The cook who must be the owner kept saying their food was fresh & the steak came straight from the grill. I can understand it’s straight off the grill but admit it if you over cooked it. Only amount was discounted was one glass of our drink and we paid a bill of almost 60£ which our dog will eat. The place had leaks and the toilets were not good conditions too. Bad experience & stay away from this awful place.

We went to The Golden Dog Shipdham for a family celebration meal last night and I cannot recommend it too highly. The unassuming front of the building hid a great secret. We were greeted by the barman as if we were old friends. Drinks were reasonably priced. When we were shown through to the dining room, what a surprise greeted us. The room was brilliantly decorated and wonderfully set out. We tucked in to starters including prawn cocktail, cheesey mushrooms and sizzling prawns. THis was followed by BBQ ribs, butterfly griddled chicke, herb crusted salmon, Norfolk burger, crab and lobster burger and one of the best surf and turf spreads ever seen. For the first time ever, neither of my sons could manage a dessert. WHat we hadnt mentioned when we booked, was that we were celebrating 2 birthdays and 2 wedding anniversaries. The owners, Puala and Dave certainly did us proud and made us feel special. Not sure they could have bettered the welcome and whole experience even if we had told them we were celebrating.. The whole family agreed that it was a great evening. My eledest son has announced tha the will be back there tonight for a takeaway when his wife finishes work. We ALL agreed that we will certainly be back for future birthdays and other family events.

We have driven past this pub many times and decided tonight to visit. What a hidden gem and totally unique. Very beautifully decorated interior. Made very welcome, with a two year old in tow. Brilliant beer gardens for the family. Simply lovely. More than adequate bar food, well presented and very good price. Will definitely return!!!

Having been to this cosy village pub several times, for a function, for dinner and also just got a beer, we decided it was ideal for our wedding reception. Dave and Paula made all the arrangements so easy and, on the day, we had a perfect day! The food was beautiful and plentiful. The venue was beautifully decorated and the children had the run of the beer garden which has swings and slides, etc so they were never bored. The beer was excellent and all prices were more than reasonable. All in all, the day was a complete triumph, thanks to Dave and Paula.

We attended a family wedding here at the weekend. the food was superb!, the staff so helpful, every stop was pulled out to ensure everyone, children to grannies, had a great time and even the fussiest of eaters commented on the high quality of the food. The bar was very well stocked they even had my favorite... Rhubarb and ginger gin. very happy. Will visit again.

I phoned through to make a booking a week in hand as heard the restaurant can get busy. We met up with friends of ours in the bar and at first when i walked in i thought i booked the wrong pub as it was a small local pub with a few friendly locals and no restaurant i could see. After speaking with the bartender and said i had a table booked they told me they had no recollection of my booking...all 4 of us feeling a little bit disillusioned and disappointed because we were all hungry. The bartender went off to check with the manager and came back with an appologie and realized they made a mistake. We were then asked if we wanted to take a seat in there restaurant and from that point on our first impressions quickly turned into a lovely evening. Overall its a nice local pub with a nice pub side with dart board and barstools. Other side of tge bar is there restaurant which can occupy a good coach load of people.

Well that was a revelation, an eatery that treats vegetarians as people that eat as much as me's (meat eaters) what a treat.

Visited The Golden Dog Shipdham as advertised Dinner with dancing. Three course meal for twenty pounds, had to order what we required a few days before. Food was well presented and a lot of it, the only time we have been for a meal and could not eat it all but was allowed to take the cheese and biscuits home.

We were the first customers to be seated when we arrived upon opening and my husband and I watched as other customers arrived and get seated. We watched as the server went to their tables first to take their orders whilst we sat there seemingly unnoticed. I decided not to say anything just to see what would happen and one of the lovely ladies who seated us came back from whatever she had been doing and asked if we had been served yet. I said no and she was straight on it. Fortunately all staff on shift were well organized and the barista got through the drinks orders like a champ so we didn't have to wait too long. I ordered an oat milk latte and tarragon mushrooms, my husband had the full fry up. Food was delicious and hot. I felt the pricing was a bit off between our two dishes. Mushrooms on toast with 2 poached eggs and a bit of spinach £12 yet my husband's big fry up also had toast, eggs, mushrooms but then had beans, tomato, bacon ,sausages, black pudding for £14. Not a complaint, more of an observation. When we went to pay, the cashier read out what we had ordered and said Almond milk latte. Good job I don't have a nut allergy! Overall a nice experience, delicious food, friendly staff, excellent chef. Will return.

Walked in Sunday afternoon with no booking, staff were so accommodating and friendly, made sure food was available and offered us a table. The food was amazing! Huge Yorkshire puddings, plenty of vegetables and vegetarian options available too. Will definitely be returning.
