Tall Orders in Breckland

I really want to give this place a good review because I've visited lots of times over the years and never been disappointed; but today I have to leave an honest review and I'm sad 😔 It's always busy & booking is advisable. I've visited twice this month and it's not been up to its usual standard. I ordered decaffeinated coffee to be told they didn't have any left; and while I understand, a coffee shop that runs out of coffee is not great. The side salads used to be a good size but are now a small lettuce leaf, one slice of cucumber & a 1/4 tomato. Previously a good serving and included pepper & red onion. Coleslaw is now extra. A sausage panini had ONE sausage in it, so when cut in half, only one side had a filing! Loaded skins used to be a large jacket potato with a generous topping; now half a pototo and cleary microwaved. The toilets were not great on my last visit, quite grubby. The cakes on offer are displayed nicely under big glass cloches and I would usually take home a piece to enjoy later, but the recent offerings have not been that tempting. The business does well with a very busy outside catering side, it's possible more effort has gone into this side of the business and the cafe has suffered.

We stopped here for a mid week lunch after our morning walk. First impressions were good as the food coming out looked nice and the place was busy. When we were handed our menus we were told they had run out of baked potatoes (of all things) and loaded potato skins which then reduced the menu choice by about 50%. The specials board had soup of the day displayed but the female server quickly informed us that the last portion had just been sold so, that now wasn’t an option either. None the less, we decided to go ahead and order from the much reduced menu options. I ordered a fish finger sandwich on white bread and an apple juice and the rest of the group placed their orders. One of our party made a request to our server regarding their food and the server made an audible huff as she walked away! I wanted to take some tablets so I asked for some water for the table. My friend who had nipped to the loo, didn’t hear me order the water and when she came back, she asked the same server for some water and was told by her that I’d already ordered some and as the server left, we heard her mutter under her breath “Ive only got one pair of hands you know”. When she brought the water back, she literally plonked the jug and glasses on the table!! We let it pass but, really?! My fish finger sandwich was wrong when it arrived as it came out in a bap instead of the requested white bread but, as I was hungry and didn’t want to wait any longer for it to be changed, I let it go. Sadly, the food was not good; the fish fingers were of the cheap variety and quite tasteless and I only ate what I did of it as I was so hungry. The rest of the group weren’t overly impressed with their food and drinks either. One remarking about how awful the coffee was and that it tasted like instant. At no point were we asked if everything was alright and the only good point about our visit was the lovely young lady who took our payments and seemed genuinely happy and pleased to serve us. This was the first time most of us had been to this place and, I suspect, most of us won’t be returning.

Food only average, Coffee quite tasteless and whilst one member of staff friendly and helpful another was not so much. Many menu items not available.

Disappointing . Went in for lunch, had to wait quite a time for food to arrive, but biggest issue was waiting over 10 minutes for table to be cleared, while staff did everything but clear our table. Cafe wasn't that busy and enough staff. In the end we gave up on ordering cakes and left, so they lost the extra income.

The tall orders team provided the catering on our wedding day Saturday. There were 100 seated guests and a further 100 for the evening making it 200 guests. The whole day ran seamless and we, our families and all our guests had such a great day and one that will live long in our memories. We won't forget Jennies enthusiasm and efforts to ensure we had the most incredible food and the tall orders team certainly succeeded in making our day the very best they could. All of our guests said the canapés were the best they have ever had. The afternoon tea was exemplary and the cakes and savouries were outstanding. The evening salads and potatoes were also very nice indeed and went down a treat! Will be in for an afternoon tea or two….! Soon. All our love and thanks, Keri, David & Cooper.

Nice food fair prices great service

I went in a couple of weeks ago, asked for the salmon baguette, but asked the staff, to change my order a bit, all staff were lovely and friendly, the food was amazing quality! I was so pleased and grateful 🙏 I would love to go back ❤️

A pleasant catch up with a friend over lunch in a cafe environment. Though food presentation was a bit less than, the taste was ok and it felt relaxed enough to take out time and chat without being rushed.

Asked for coffee to be brought out with the food. My request was ignored. Like to eat and drink together. If food is delivered late then my drink has cooled down and becomes luke warm. HOT drinks served...need I say no more. Listen to your customers.. They are always right and so is their money!

Loved it. Cozy casual feel, staff were all very friendly and food was delicious. I ordered a piece of cake to take away, and whilst I'm pretty sure I got the wrong flavour, I can't really complain as the piece I did get was generous, moist and yummy 😋 10/10 would recommend and will be back

Especially in dereham. But there are some clear issues with it. First off the cafe isn't sure what it wants to be, the dining situation is almost set up in the form of a restaurant with the seating arrangements however you still pay at the front desk and also need to go there for anything you may need assistance with. Then it was onto the food, our waitress was nice enough and we ordered our dishes. A vegetarian breakfast burrito (the only thing to catch my eye after learning their "full English" (in my opinion closer to half empty) 8pound breakfast came with just one measly sausage and bacon and also some gluten free (props on tallorder for doing gluten free) French toast. I decided to get their "fresh" orange juice. Which contained around 6 dead baby flies. And what I can assume is their mutilated mother. I was given a tango which I assumed was a replacement but it turns out they tried to charge me for this. Luckily after persuasion and a lengthy debate I managed to get both the orange juice and tango off the bill, they seem to really value your money here and not the experience they offer. Now the actual food itself was edible at least! My vegetarian burrito was very bland. No seasonings, id recommend using a herb wrap and cooking the mushrooms in chilli oil. Then adding some English whole mustard and instead of normal tomatoes sun dried. The French toast was clearly not pan seared/fried and the egg wash was done poorly to the point where there were yolk streaks. There was also too much syrup ruining the balance of this dish and the dark red veining and darker portions of the bacon prove that it was precooked and frozen, along with this it was not press cooked meaning the charring was uneven and it made a hard eating process. Overall this isn't exactly a good place to eat in dereham, nor get a drink. If I was you I'd stay clear of it

Quite appalling. Me and my partner wanted to go out for breakfast and because of the good aesthetic and high ratings we decides to take a look. The decor was nice and our waiter was very nice and welcoming, however our problem was with the food. My partner ordered freshly squeezed orange juice but when it arrived, it had over 6 dead baby flies in as well as a larger parent fly which we, at the time put down to the warm weather (however the oranges weren't washed before being placed into the juicing machine as they were piled up inside the top of the machine so I believe it could've been avoided) Our next problem was with the food. The presentation was good and they hand gluten free alternatives (as I have coeliacs disease) but the quality and taste of the food is my biggest concern. I ordered a, 'Luxurious French Toast' which was toast and bacon topped with chives and syrup which pooled on the plate almost filling the entirety of it. The toast had streaks of yolk and wasn't seared to a nice crisp, it was still quite floppy and bread-like (the syrup didn't help) and overall wasn't very nice to eat. The bacon was cooked from frozen (you could tell from the graining when pulling it apart) and was cooked inconsistently (some bits were charcoal whilst other parts were undercooked). My partner only really complained really about the blandness of their food and the size of the sausage/amount of bacon (which I believe to be part of a breakfast burrito? I can't quite remember what it was called on the menu but I digress). Overall I believe my experience wasn't at all what I was expecting. They did take the drink off of our bill and compensate it after my partner went up and complained after they tried to make up pay for the drink that had flies in but despite that I was severely underwhelmed. The price for both of us was £17 (including the compensation reduction) otherwise it would've been £20

Tall Orders catered for our wedding. Absolutely delicious food, and nothing is too much to ask for. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Their veggie sausage rolls are incredible! Thank you for being a part of our wedding day, we will be back for some cake!

Could have done better. Our first visit and our order didn't go through to kitchen 30 minutes later after asking (Have we been forgotten) we were told we had been missed.... food was lovely but time and wait not so good. Drinks were taken off our bill in comparison. If in the area would try again.

Tall Orders catered for my parents anniversary celebrations. Everything was so nice and the waitresses such lovely girls. Nothing was too much trouble. We had afternoon tea served to the tables with delicious sandwiches scones cream and jam plus a yummy selection of cakes. The girls went above and beyond to help and can’t recommend them enough. Thank you for making the day so special. Everyone was full of compliments x

After a very long wait, the pannini and baguette we received had so little filling that we couldn't taste it. The 'baguette' was a partially baked roll. The baby high-chairs were very dirty.

After a long wait, our ciabatta and baguette were both very disappointing. There wasn't enough filling in either to taste it and the baguette resembled an under-cooked long roll. There were no condiments on the table and I had to ask for cutlery. Our table was next to the baby high chairs which were very dirty and obviously hadn't been cleaned properly for some time. It was our first visit to the restaurant and it will be our last.

Friendly place & busy but then there’s not much real competition. Was offered a choice of tables which was nice however the flat white was average. Bottle line: for ambiance better than the big American chains especially in this town, but not for the barista part. Make sure you visit in company so as not to focus on the coffee. BTW they do meals as well but it was too early in the morning for me.

Really nice place to go to for afternoon tea. They allow dogs inside, which was great for us and such a good price for what you get; £10 for a selection of sandwiches, cakes, a scone with cream and jam and pot of tea/coffee. Free parking nearby too, which is great.

The staff were very friendly and the place was busy with tea and cakes We had a full English breakfast and pancakes with bacon an maple syrup. The food that came out look ok but was only Luke warm We asked for the full English to be reheated which they did with a fresh egg. The problem I think was the plates were cold which made the food very cold.

First visit but went with family who have visited three times. Setting is welcoming and cosy. Service was superb with friendly, understanding staff. Menu and food were excellent. We ordered salads, sandwiches, wraps, ciabatta's and coffees. All were fresh and beautifully served. Thank you.

We heard of tall orders through our wedding venue and decided to pay a visit with Jennie to discuss a wedding buffet, from the moment we met her she was very professional. Lunch (and cake) at the cafe was fresh and tasty, as was our wedding buffet. The sausage rolls got rave reviews, the staff were very helpful and all in all a great experience, would highly recommend

Only had a coffee here which was reasonably priced, but it was so hot it burnt my mouth! Other people were eating and appeared to be enjoying their food, I noticed a table of four people all having scones which looked so pale and unappetising.

Very nice breakfast plus dog friendly. Just unfortunate our dog is used to getting biscuits brought to him. He didn’t understand when no biscuits arrived. But he was letting all the staff know.

Following the death of my father, Tall Orders were wonderful when they catered for the light reception following his memorial service. Thank you. for being efficient, the food tasty and the response to all enquiries friendly, quick and clear.

Went for breakfast with my friend at first we were only two customers then a few other people came in but oddness 2 coffees and a coke, we never received the coke. My friend had scrambled eggs spinach and mushroom and I had French toast. She said the scrabled eggs were cold and tasteless and my French toast was bland soggy eggy bread. I ordered a sausage aswell which came stone cold (out of fridge I'm guessing) and bacon had cold spots which I'm guessing was microwaved. Honestly one of the worst breakfasts we had in dereham, no one checked on us even though there was 4 staff working, we didn't bother saying anything because we ate what we could as we were hungry. Safe to say we will not he back.

Sadly we were advised “ no jacket potatoes, beef or pork” after we had looked through the menus and decided! So we had to revise our order. My food, avocado with poached eggs and crispy bacon was cold and mush. Eggs broken, bread not toasted bacon cold disaster. Never again will I want to eat there. Service not great, cutlery not brilliant and overall no for us.

This was our first visit to Tall Orders in Dereham, stopped by on the off chance for lunch, they were very busy, good choices from the menu, the Ciabatta with brie, bacon, salad and a few crips plus the cappuccino was excellent, staff were cheerful and polite, would definitely return when in the area

We had a delicious breakfast here. Coffee was good, poached eggs perfect, hubby had full English which he says was the best he's had. Not at all greasy. The staff were friendly and professional. Cafe was very clean. Definitely worth a visit.

Today Myself, My mum, Sister and Nan came here for lunch, we have been before and always have found it hit and miss and we ordered a lovely afternoon tea delivery from here in Lockdown so now restrictions have lifted we came here for lunch.We booked a table, however when arriving we were told to just take a seat & we explained we had booked a table so any preference and the waitress replied with “we haven’t put the reserve signs out” so we sat down. We ordered our drinks which were 2 Apple juices, a diet coke and a normal coke with 2 glasses, no glasses where offered with the cartons of apple juice and my glass given to me for my diet coke was filthy with dried food on the bottom. I approached for a clean glass and 2 more glasses for the apple juices.. one of the glasses given then had a bug in the bottom so again I had to approach the waitress for another new glass. Our food that we had ordered then came. My sister asked for no tomatoes in her sandwich and coleslaw- she got no coleslaw and tomatoes in her sandwich. The waitress just placed the plates down without asking any sauces or anything else and just walked off and this always gets asked when putting plates down in any place to eat. I then had to get up out of my chair to again approach a waitres asking for my sisters coleslaw and some mayonnaise. The waiting staff were so unapproachable. No one came and asked if our meal was okay and when we had finished our meal we waited 25 minutes with dirty plates infront of us including 4 other tables who had the same and still wasn’t asked if everything was okay. My Nan & a women from another table had to wave to the waitress and ask to have the table cleared so we could order some cakes. It seemed a problem anytime we had to ask for anything and had to wave down a member of staff to get any attention. There was an unfriendly atmosphere and we felt like a burden. Never have I ever had to try and approach a waitress so much for some service. My mum went to the toilet and there was no toilet roll and no soap and when my mum approached (again) a waitress regarding this they ebruptly replied with “ yeah we’re gonna sort it” and turned away. I went to another local cafe recently which was much bigger and much busier and had excellent service and excellent hospitality. My sister is a manager at a hotel in Sheringham and was appalled by the service received today for such a simple lunch out. I have never met such unapproachable and unfriendly waiting staff and service and I myself eat out a lot. Unfortunately we will not be returning.

I love tall orders they do lovely cakes and latte unfortunately today I was torn between cake and flapjack and the flapjack seemed wet very crumbly which was disappointing and not like their usual standard

Popped in for a coffee with my wife as we thought it was starting to rain, and ended up having lunch. Had a homemade beef chilli jacket potato with salad and coleslaw. It filled a large square plate and was delicious.The portions are a full meal size and incredible value for money. Coffee came in a good sized cup or mug and was very good. Staff are lovely, service quick. I live in Dereham and wish I had come here years ago.

We ordered the jacket potato with beef chilli and a salad bowl. The reason I gave four stars is because the potato skin wasn’t crispy. The food came quicker then I expected so I suspect the potato was reheated instead of bake to order? Just me being picky. When you go for a nice jacket you want a crispy skin! The jacket does not come with salad and coleslaw they are extra to be added. For the price of almost £6 that’s okay. The salad and coleslaw that come with the jacket is fresh. The salad bowl is decent size. Not much else to say about it. The staffs are smiley and friendly. If they can pull off a crispy skin on the jacket then it is a place to comeback to for sure:) their homage cake looks amazing maybe we try that next time.

HAD A DOUBLE HIT MOCHA AND FRENCH TOAST FOR BREAKFAST. BOTH WERE PERFECTION. GOOD SERVICE HERE

We were at home when the door bell rang and on opening there was a very large plater that our granddaughter had done as a surprise I have seen platters before but this one was the best we have had with every thing from ham, beef, two types of cheese fruit very nice rolls butter well every thing very pleased with this and would willingly recommend TALL ORDER for service and delivery When in lockdown treat your self, or others it’s worth every penny Thank you all and our granddaughter for thinking of us.

Great club sandwich. Visited Saturday lunchtime as a party of 3 . Covid restrictions in place. Typical cafe style menu and food pleasing to the eye. All of us agreed food and drink of a good quality and fresh.

Jenny done the food for our wedding (Godwick, 2018) which was amazing (especially the brownies!), the staff were wonderful, all the guests loved the food, pretty much no food left as people went for thirds. I also come here for coffee and cake when I am in Norfolk, again lovely food and staff :)

Popped on for a sandwich and wernt disappointed. Due to the present restrictions some tables have been removed and they were in short supply. We managed to get a table after a short wait. Food was delicious and was in generous portions. Prices were good as well. Staff were friendly in spite of the fact that they were rushed off their feet. Well worth a visit. They also do take outs.

We visited as a group of 6 during Help Out. Phoned to book and they managed to squeeze us in with proviso we had the table for an hour. Watched numerous people being turned away as they hadn’t booked.Staff working hard, moving tables to keep distancing. Door open as Gov guidelines so wrap up!We had tasty ciabattas, which cane with salad and crisps. There is a great selection of cakes. We took a boxful home- carrot cake, lemon cake, briwnues and Victoria sandwich. Huge slices and delicious.So important to support local businesses, we will be back.

I've yet to have a bad experience in Tall Orders and my latest visit was no exception. Despite the Covid restrictions, the staff were friendly and welcoming as usual and my order was spot on again. The sandwiches are always on the generous side, especially with a side salad and coleslaw, while the takeout menu offers a great range at great value. The only downside is the lack of ambience within the seating area, which is rather cold and could do with some background music or something similar. Still preferential to some of the food chains that operate in the town, in terms of value and quality.

We managed to visit at a quiet time and we didn't feel hemmed in with the threat of covid 19. Our cakes and coffee were delicious. The staff were using face screens. The second and third attempted visits, it was full, except for one table - which I am pleased for them but we couldn't enter, it was too crowded for us! Sorry girls.

A popular, busy, independent cafe in Dereham. Good coffee.

I like stopping here for lunch. You get good portions and they use quality ingredients. The ciabattas are good.

Lovely little cafe. Ciabatta were good, with very tempting cakes on the counter I somehow managed to resist! Highly recommended for a quick cuppa or lunch.

Had lunch here today, Food and service excellent, but oh! the noise. A smallish room with a tile floor, full of people chatting: it was deafening. I found it hard to hear what my companion opposite me at the table was saying - and vice versa. Even worse when a party of six scraped their chairs over the tiles instead of lifting them. We left after eating and went elsewhere for coffee as a result. Please install some soft furnishings - even curtains would help - to deaden the acoustic. A shame, as the food was very good indeed.

Stop in this nice cafe for lunch first time in Dereham. Nice find we had a chicken club sandwich, chilli jacket potato and a cheese and baked bean potato. These were all very good the chilli all home made asked for sour cream on one one of these which was no problem. Chicken sandwich very good too. Cakes looked nice as well quite busy as doing something right.

We've recently spent a few days in Dereham on business and what a find. Friendly staff, great food and what a choice. It was just before xmas and the festive menu was exciting and original - well done. During busy times there was a wait but it was worth waiting for.
