Went for a Birthday Afternoon Tea.. It was Absolutely shocking!!!! Dry Sandwiches. Basic plain sponge cake. Had to ask for our Glass Trifle deserts. When we got them they where white chocolate which was like a custard and the milk in it was off.. All in all Awful. Worst Afternoon Tea Ever. Bland and Dry!!!!! Would Never go back.. Just another note to say. I Emailed to complain and no one has replied and it's been 4 days now!!!! So Obviously they really don't care..

Stay well clear of this place. Popped in for lunch today and OMG. The toilets were filthy The food was awful and the head waitress/manager had a terrible attitude. The ‘fresh’ focaccia was stale and very dense The turkey lunch was terrible. The meat was cheap and tasteless The potatoes dry The gravy had a very strange taste Some sprouts were hard and others were soggy. The meal was microwaved for sure. Nothing fresh. Nothing proper. Our table and 2 other tables beside us were very unhappy with their meals also. We raised concerns about the meal and the manager said she would get us a fresh meal…. Surely every meal should have been freshly cooked ?? We tried to give some feedback to the female manager when we went to pay at the bar but she refused to admit there was anything wrong with the food. We were happy to pay for our drinks but the not inedible food. She then tore up the bill and told us to leave ! I went back to update the other tables about my awful experience at the bar and, I was told to leave the premises immediately. There was nothing good to say about this place. Terrible attitude, awful food and dirty toilets. Must be embarrassing for the owners to read this but honest feedback is important if you care about your business and your customers

Popped in for a quick drink with my family at lunchtime and the place was empty! This was a Saturday lunchtime! When you sit down you realise why it’s empty, freezing cold December day and the pub was absolutely freezing, open fires/wood burners can’t be lit as they’ve been ripped out, spoiling the atmosphere completely, too many tables crammed into a small area, no snug area/ sofas to just sit and chat. It’s a country pub that’s lost its roots, concentrating on food only, not everyone wants to eat all the time. Far too expensive too, plenty of other options in the area that are better value for money and warm! For example, across the road…

If I could give this pub 0 stars I would. The pork belly was the toughest, driest pork belly I have ever ordered. It didn’t come with gravy, but without an extra ask for their incredibly thin, bland gravy, we wouldn’t have been able to actually swallow it. The potatoes and carrots were hard and tasteless too. The service was poor, the waitress gave us 5 minutes to order before the kitchen wanted to shut. Don’t offer tables if you don’t want to serve them that close to closing?! When we went to pay, three members of staff were stood there, two with backpacks and coats on, and one taking the payment. 20% tip was added to the bill for service. I’m not sure what this was paying for exactly?! £113.50 for two bone dry pork bellies, a dry hard roast and a very average sausage pinwheel meal, as well as a wrong drink order and zero interest or service from the staff. We will not be returning.

We visited as a group of four for a nice Christmas meal. When we arrived at 5.45 we were told we had to order quickly as the kitchen was closing. Then, when our pork belly came out, it was the driest, toughest pork belly I’ve ever eaten out (and we always order this when out). We could barely cut it, and chewing it, it was so dry… we asked for some gravy to try and wash it down, also really thin. The carrots were hard and the potatoes were dull. The service was really poor. No one really made us feel welcome. When we wanted to pay, there was no one at the bar to ask for the bill. When we went to pay, the waitress plus two other staff were stood there, two with their backpacks and jackets on waiting to leave, and making us feel again like a massive inconvenience. There was then a 20% tip added, of about £18… for what I’m not sure?! We will not be returning. The Stag is far better and only across the road.

My fiancée and I ordered Christmas traditional Sunday roast which was turkey. The only edible thing on the plate was the turkey. The chef had heard of Sunday roast but never actually seen one. Burnt parsnips, under cooked “roast potatoes”. One piece of raw broccoli. No yorkies and some juice that defied explanation. When they brought proper gravy you could almost see the bottom of the jug. We were reimbursed for one meal. The desert apple crumble and blackberries, didn’t taste right either. The crumble was rock hard. Never again. Do NOT recommend this place.

We booked a table for 8 people. The table we were put on was incredibly narrow and we were crammed in with no space. Luckily the very nice waitress moved us to another table but not in the nice dining room. We had pre ordered 4 starters but only 2 came out, we asked why and told the menu had changed so not avaliable. We were found an alternative quite quickly. I have allergy and ordered burger chips and peas, nothing else on the plate please, no bun just plain. It came out with cheese on, if I hadn't noticed I would have been very sick. The replacement was dry, hard chips and not very hot. Other pork meal was very fatty, others were not very impressed. They were very busy and I think the waitresses were very busy, I was impressed with the care she showed us. It's a shame the food and organisation let us down.

Definitely the worst meal I have had out in a long time! Everything on my plate was incredibly salty (I had the steak), my parents pork belly was just very clearly put in the deep fryer and the fish and chips was incredibly bland. Overall the feedback from our table was everything lacked flavour, except for my salty steak unfortunately! Will absolutely not be returning. Even when I made a complaint about my steak it wasn't handled in the best way (I am also a waitress and work in hospitality so I understand this!)

We had a lovely meal here as part of Norfolk Restaurant Week. I have to admit I only live a few minutes away but I’d never visited The White Lodge, but it was nice to try somewhere local. The staff were exceptionally friendly and we felt very looked after, the food was great but not excellent - I think some of our dishes maybe just needed some additional flavouring but this was really just personal preference. The White Lodge has both a nice dining area, or a bar area if you would just like to come in for a drink. I would highly recommend!

However I was very very disappointed my chicken was very tuff broccoli was rock hard so was the cabbage. I had one carrot well half large carrot roast potatoes not great and I do always order extra roasts. Well the Yorkshire pudding was flat as a pancake I couldn't believe thay even thought that was OK to put on your plate IT WAS A JOKE..... I did complain thay did offer another dinner but I said no. And I said I won't be paying full price and I was very disappointed. I was so looking forward to my roast being cooked for me as been up at 5.45. The lady with the pink hair wasn't in but I sure if she was she wouldn't have aloud that as she is great. Will be giving a Sunday roast a miss for a while.

Travelling back to Essex after a delightful few days away spent in Norfolk, we decided to stop on the way home for lunch. All my partner wanted was a pint and carbs! Furiously searching for a village pub, this delightful looking building popped up. Both being fans of Georgian properties, we thought this would be the place for us. The menu wasn’t inspiring and seemed pretty standard but had a few decent offerings. We arrived, it was relatively busy for a Sunday which we thought was a good sign. The staff were incredibly helpful, polite and the beer offerings good. We were told several items were not available which didn’t leave much in the way of carbs so we opted for lasagne, chips and garlic bread. Carb overload! (It was a heavy night!) The food arrived, presented well, but therein lies the end of my positive review. Wow! I can honestly say, I don’t think I have ever left a meal within its entirety. The lasagne was dry, tasteless, and could have been used to fill brickwork! The chips were frozen (at £16 I would have expected hand cuts chips) and the salad pathetic. We provided feedback, the incredibly helpful and courteous staff did offer to replace the meal with anything else on the menu, but for fear of going through the entire saga again, and not wishing to call in sick tomorrow at work, we politely declined. Drank out pint and swiftly exited the building quicker than you can say Elvis!! My one and only star is for the staff who should be knighted for I’m sure, dealing with complaints daily!

We first visited in March of 2023 and loved the place...the location is charming and immaculate, and at the time the food well-presented with care and DELICIOUS, and the service--unbeatable. With that memory in mind, we took family there in late December 2023 and were quite surprised that the selection had changed and the food itself wasn't as good as before. Was there a change of management? Something was off and we left disappointed. Change isn't always a good thing.

Popped in for a couple of pints on a Monday evening. The staff were very friendly and efficient, there was a reasonably good selection of beers available and a large, quiet, if slightly featureless garden in the back. Not even the basics covered, not to mention a lump of mud in the salad. Welcome was cold and off-putting as we had not booked (quiet Monday night). Sticky menus, items ordered from the menu were not available, even though we were told what was out of stock. Gin and tonic, had to ask for ice, meals served - no offer of condiments - I had to queue at the bar to request. Waitress had zero training. Lump of mud eaten in the salad, again had to queue to make aware, no apology, no offer of another meal...just told I would get it comp! Didn't eat it anyway as put off with the soil still in my teeth!! Honestly terrible experience, looked like a mess in the kitchen as you could see down past the bar. Got the bill and same waitress rolled her eyes when checking we had not been charged for service. Really lacked any ownership taking control. Been several times recently and has been much better than the last few years, but feel so strongly I just had to post this review as too many issues to be a one off. Shame as it was my daughters birthday tea.

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND! Half of the menu was unavailable to order. On ordering, we were then told that further items we wanted were sold out. There should have been a good slection of children’s meals, which we had seen online, but on arrival we were given the option of a burger or pizza and there was no menu to see as the printer had stopped working. Children's burgers were raw inside, which was our main complaint. Fish had been overcooked, so batter was hard and inedible. Salad was a dish full of rocket, which we had specifically checked wasn't in the salad before ordering and were assured it wasn't. We sent it back and asked for no rocket. The salad came out again, containing rocket. Sour cream missing from skillet. We were not offered a dessert menu or coffee. The assistant manager on site avoided us once she knew there was a problem and left the waiter to deal with our table. Our bill was reduced at the end due to our complaint, but it ruined a Birthday meal out with my family.

Called in on way back from Thetford originally planning to stop at another pub/restaurant nearby but the white Lodge looked more appealing. Rather empty (and a bit cold) on entering but it was 1200. Pleasant service Great menu with good range of GF dishes. Why do other places find it difficult to offer GF dishes? My wife had crispy chilli beef to start and fishcakes as a main. Bothe were excellent in taste and presentation. I opted for the fish goujons in a ciabatta and whilst OK it could do with more fish and less batter. We’ve been going to the white lodge for years held plenty of occasions there and hire the back restaurant twice - went for NYE since the new owners have taken over , booked weeks in advance and invited friends over for the night to join us, when we arrived half the menu wasn’t available not just a few things were talking around 10 things so we were already left with minimal choice, wasn’t even shown to our table just told to “go and sit over there “- took ages to order drinks and even longer to order food, when the food finally arrived it was horrific- I ordered the house burger and it was completely raw just pure mince inside , everyone else ordered a roast and no one could finish it is was that bad quality, the young waitress took my burger back and I had to wait over half hour if not more for a new burger to which I asked to if I could have it taken away as everyone had finished to be told no,leaving the whole table to wait whilst I ate. I addressed my concerns the next day to which the reply was so poor they basically advised me to come back again and give them another try, I sent a follow up email for it to be completely ignored.- Don’t bother eating here it’s not what It used to be and I won’t be returning.

Was very disappointed with the food and the service. Food was well presented but was luke warm, I'm not sure they are aware that food should be served at a minimum temperature of 63 degrees, its actually against the law not to and of course the risk of food poisoning. Was offered 10% discount, but really wasn't enough as we couldn't eat and enjoy cold food. Sweets were very small and not home made, needless to say we won't be returning. Definitely avoid, the stag is better and the service is always good, and we all know that is medioka!!

Sadly disappointing after so much anticipation. We didn’t book as it was mid week but we’re made to stand whilst she checked the availability, only 1 other table occupied and we were seated almost next to them. Pleasant young waitress who’s phrase was ‘no worries’ but overall the service was very slow considering how quiet the restaurant was. Good selection on the menu so I chose the Game Pie which was very authentic with a shotgun pellet in it but the pastry was hard, the gravy was awful with separated lumps of bistro/ thickener in it and the lumpy carrot and swede mash was served with carrots and swede, talk about root vegetable overload. I then ordered the Passionfruit Crème Brûlée which once I cracked through the sugar was totally split and full of clear liquid. I quietly returned it and it was replaced with Lemon Posset, which tasted pleasant but once again was not set and had the consistency of double cream. During the time we were waiting for our food we observed 2 other couples, seated right next to us, look at the menu/ prices, get up and leave with no explanation. Such a shame all round, I had high hopes we would finally have a decent restaurant in the area but the place had no atmosphere, service was slow and whist the range of food was very good the execution of it was poor, sorry all round.

Cannot recommend this place enough, we came here on a whim after visiting the dogs trust nearby and we brought our dog Harry, the staff were so friendly towards him and accommodating towards where to seat us. Me and my partner both had the venison burger which is part of their limited time menu, honestly one of the best burgers we've ever had, we would love for this to stay on the menu for when we return! Cannot recommend enough for a great atmosphere and top class food! 👌

Just had one of the best meals for a long time, the chilli beef was so tasty, as was the suet steak and kidney pie. Lovely staff and the atmosphere was nice. Thank you we will definitely return.

A favourite spot for lunch, coffee, and baked goods. Food always well made and fresh. Baked treats always light and well baked. Very happy to admit to visiting at least once a week.
