I have NEVER ever written a Trip Advisor review for anywhere but having read a recent review I have felt angered and upset regarding the dangerous dog comment and felt I absolutely need to give my review. Dangerous dog??? I dont think so! Anyone that has been to this pub and knows the pub dog Roxy would definitely not say this. Local children play with her and she is a very friendly and people loving dog. For the incident to have occurred she must have felt very threatened by the visiting dog that she had to protect herself. The pub, staff and dog are all very welcoming and I would not hesitate to recommend it.

We visited The Golden Cross to celebrate a friend’s birthday on the evening of 25th August. There were eight of us in the party and we had pre - ordered our main course. It was served extremely quickly, hot and looking very scrumptious, not only was it one of the best meal’s I have tasted in a long time, the price was very reasonable. The atmosphere was relaxing and the staff extremely helpful. I would definitely recommend this place to all weather you are on your own or having a family reunion. Well done all at the Golden Cross we will return.

I recently went to this pub on a dinner meal , I have been here on a lunch which was slightly better . But not good quality pub grub . More like students meals . If you like microwave meals this is the place for you , everything was microwaved as we had a perfect view of the chef .menu says lots chips which is laugh , I ordered the ribs which are tasty but had no colour few chips and 3 small onion rings 13.95 not good . I then ordered cake 55 minutes to arrive, suppose ro be chocolate, it was brown warm from microwave. Won't be going back . All the people with me had various complaints on the food and very slow service.

We were travelling home from a day trip and made a snap decision to stop here for a late afternoon drink when we saw the kids play area from the road. We are not from the area and knew nothing about the pub but weren’t disappointed. The staff were extremely friendly, and very helpful with food over an allergy within our group. We had some bar snacks, baguette, cheesy chips, onion rings etc… and all were great. The play area kept the kids (3 & 5) easily entertained for an hour without us having to hover over them. Also dog friendly! All in all, a really nice spontaneous stop at a random pub!

We stopped here for lunch as we were passing and wanting something to eat. The pub looked very nice from the outside so we decided to give it a go. They say never judge a book by it's cover but in this case you most definitely can. Upon arriving I was greeted by a very friendly landlady (I assume) and she was excellent throughout our visit as were the waiting staff. Very friendly and welcoming. The food was amazing for the prices charged, all home cooked and very generous portions, so much so that I could not finish all of mine. The menu is very varied catering for all tastes and diets. The rotating cake stand certainly got my attention and the cakes and desserts in there looked amazing. Sadly I was too full to be able to entertain dessert, but again I could see that all the desserts and cakes in there were homemade. If ever we are in the area again we will definitely come back here. Well worth a visit.

The Golden Cross rides again! Great to have our local (well, only) village pub open again after lockdown. They’re doing food from a slightly shorter menu (served in boxes, like you get your fish & chips at the seaside - eat then throw the box in the bins on the patio) but there’s loads to choose from. The half a roast chicken with chips and gravy is a complete feast for only £7.95! There’s steak & ale pie, scampi, beef chilli, veggie burger, Penang veg curry (really coconutty), cod, plaice, cheeseburgers ... Pre-made fresh baguettes in the chiller cabinet all day as well - great if you’re walking, out on a bike ride or rushing for the train. It’s been done up too - lots of tables in the garden but really well spaced out.

Roadside pub on the main route between Wycombe and Princes Risborough. Reasonably priced food, mainly wholesome pub grub type food, including a range of pies. Two ales on offer at the time of my visit: Ringwood Best and Wye Valley HPA. I enjoyed a decent pint of the latter, although I would like to have seen something local on offer, perhaps something from XT or Rebellion. Overall this a good pub but not a great pub; somehow it just lacks that wow factor needed to achieve five stars.

It may be on the side of a busy main road and the interior may be modern, but this is about as good an example of a traditional village pub as you’ll find. Top class home cooking, big portions, a good selection of real ales and local craft beers, plus a couple of very decent draught ciders. Best of all are the staff, who can’t do enough for customers, and the locals who make new visitors welcome. I brought my walking group here, so they had to deal with sixteen hungry, thirsty and cold souls. Everyone loved their food, which was served quickly and exactly to our pre-order. I especially recommend the Ham, Eggs and Chips, but the Steak & Ale Pie is impressive too. Prices are very reasonable. Overall a first class pub experience.

All the food arrived at the same time and was hot with plenty of gravy, we also asked for more and that was forthcoming. Great value and atmosphere with nice balance of regulars and new customers. The staff are lovely and very thoughtful, the barman who doubled as waiter that night asked if we wanted a rest before he brought the sweet, many restaurants could learn from this. Well done all.

You know you're on to a bargain when somewhere is full of grannies - they can spot a deal at 100 paces. Such it was on arrival at the Golden Cross Saturday lunchtime. It's a bit tired decor wise, it's old school basics on food (lasagne, pies, gammon egg and chips - none of your gastro grub here!) but it was a good find for a basic nice meal. Main courses were about £8, rare as anything in this neck of the woods. Service was relaxed, warm and friendly. Dog and child friendly with a lovely garden, exactly what was needed. They warned us food might be a while, not a problem, gorgeous day to sit in the sun. And then it arrived promptly. Good portions, piping hot. Yet another visit to the Golden Cross, and yet again NOT disappointed. We were 3 adults with varying food likes. We all enjoyed our food. The bar staff were as usual very helpful. We will be returning. Their Christmas menu looks great value.

We held a family celebration here and The Chef was very accommodating with the buffet choice beforehand. The day was fantastic from being able to decorate the back room before the event to the music list that was compiled especially for the day. There was plenty of food and it was all excellent all the guests commented on the excellent food. No waiting at the bar for drinks enough bar staff were eager to help. I would recommend this pub to anyone who wants to hold a party they accommodate all. Fantastic

Went for a family meal.i ordered nachos I asked for them to be spicy as nachos should be. There was no spice to them it was like mince with cheese on the top after the chef came out and I said about it to him and he said he's not going to cook for one persons taste as he cooks in bulk. I can understand this as I work in catering but u can add spice to a single portion but he was very argumentative with me the customer should always be right all other meals were ok

We have eaten here many times. It is very child friendly and offers a good selection of typical "pub grub" in hugh portions with a friendly service and at very good prices.

Went for Saturday lunch here. Great friendly pub serving good hearty grub with decent portion sizes. A nice little garden out the back with a play area for younger children (it says max age 10 but probably under 8s is more appropriate). They even turned the music off outside so we could relax and have a conversation. Easy to park too.

I first visited this pub about 15 years ago with my parents near Christmas and can just about recall it was quite nice.Since moving to Risborough, I had driven past this pub practically every day until earlier this year and now go every other Sunday for the quiz. Serving 2 ciders on tap as well as a pool table and darts board has me and the lads visiting more frequently to enjoy what is simply a rather nice pub.

Have been lunching here fairly regularly for years, and it never ceases to amaze me how great the staff are, how fresh the food is and how quick the service is.A very large varied menu which is changed fairly often.Eating outside in the large garden is great, weather permitting, notwithstanding the shattering noise of the fast train to Birmingham literally at the end of the garden.Initial impressions may not be the best but trust me when i say that the food and the staff are excellent by any standard, so please find a parking space, pop in and you will not regret it ..apart from anything else it is NOT expensive .

My husband and I were on our way home from an excellent visit to the Kop Hill climb yesterday when we came across this very busy village pub. After we were lucky enough to find a car parking space we ventured in to find the place buzzing with people of all ages. The garden was also very popular with the weather being reasonably pleasant for a change. We were greeted by a very pleasant barman who promised to be with us as soon as he could. It was at this point that we thought we may have to wait a fair time to eat, but our fears were unfounded and we were soon sat at a table perusing the menu. The list of dishes was extensive and contained all the classic meals, even though it was explained to us that the weekday menu is even bigger ! We were slightly disappointed at first that there were no specific starters listed (although there were light bites and snacks that would have sufficed) but once our main course came out in record time (aprox 15 mins) we realised why they don't do starters. The meals (Beef bourguignon and Steak and ale pie) were piping hot and served on hot plates, which makes for a refreshing change to many places we have visited previously. The food was full of flavour, and the fresh vegetables cooked just right. All in all we could not fault it in any way. Our plates were cleared by the Chef himself which was a nice touch, especially as he took the time to chat with us and ask if everything was to our liking before returning to his busy kitchen. We were offered desserts but unfortunately we had no more room left. The bill including drinks was less than £20 which I thought was amazing value for money. We left to a wave from the barman who said "we hope to see you again some time" Our answer to that is DEFINATELY !

We had this pub recommended to us by the landlady of a nearby (non-food-serving) pub in West Wycombe, after trawling up and down trying to find somewhere that looked like it would welcome a family with two young children. It's a very small place, with only approx. ten tables in the bar area. It has a great garden with a slide/climbing frame/swing combo for kids and lots of tables. It was late in the evening when we visited so didn't sit outside as it had got a bit chilly, but the children enjoyed 20 minutes playing outside while waiting for our food.On arrival, the barman was very welcoming. We explained that we were waiting for my brother in law and nephew to join us, and ordered meals for the children and a plate of nachos to keep us going! I am vegetarian and it was no problem for them to do a veggies version of the nachos without the beef chilli. Meals were very reasonably priced. Childrens' meals are all the usual suspects like giant fish fingers, sausages etc at £3.75 each. The portions were very generous and the food very nice. We ordered our and my brother in law and nephew's meals once we knew they were on the way, and the barman delayed putting them through to the kitchen for us until the last minute as we explained they were on their way but would still be half an hour, this was ten minutes before they were due to finish serving. Again, meals were very nice. The pub has a freezer in the bar area with pots of ice cream and ice cream lollies, which the children all wanted to have after their meal. My three year old son managed to trap his fingers in his excitement to get into the freezer, cue lots of screaming. The barman, without being asked, made my son a cold compress of a tea towel with ice cubes inside which went down very well with my son and soon stopped the crying, for which I can't thank him enough! All in all, lovely for a drink or meal, and welcoming to children, although with the place being so small and there being other people enjoying their meals, we made sure they kept the volume down! My only slightly negative comment is that the place looks a bit tired and tatty, but it's very clean and that's the main thing.

We went to this pub today with our young children. The play area is great. However we ordered nachos and specified to the barman we only wanted salsa with it, no chilli or cheese, and he bought out (after a long time waiting) nachos with chilli and cheese. When I told him I'm vegetarian and had requested no chilli or cheese, he just looked baffled and did not even apologise but just said 'there's been miscommunication' and I'll change it. So he went back and next thing the chef comes out in quite an aggressive manner and gives us nachos covered in cheese and says in a fairly aggressive manner and very loudly 'Next time you come here ask for a vegetarian nachos or you'll get chilli blah blah'. It was sooo rude! I was so shocked that I didn't say anything and just wanted to get out of there. Didn't even bother to tell him that I had again told the barman for NO CHEESE yet it was covered in it. Really disappointed with the service as the beer garden has a good play area for kids but I would NEVER go back because of the AWFUL service!! Can't believe they are so rude to their customers.

Outstanding - food was absolutely divine. We stayed over and had to be away early so landlady got up earlier than usual and made us bacon butties and tea and coffee to take with us. Went above and beyond to make us welcome.

Truly awful service. Stayed one night. Lovely room with great facilities. However woke the next day and went for breakfast at 9.15 and no one around. Called for someone but not staff on site. Other people staying were perplexed as literally no one on site. We left having paid for breakfast but went into a local cafe with others who followed. Will be ensuring we get a refund for no breakfast we paid for. Never had such a bizarre situation occur staying anywhere.
