Not a great meal, nothing on the menu. Why can’t it do normal food like pies, fish & chips, chicken dishes all this fancy stuff is just not appealing at all.

Good friendly service, nice beer and a great atmosphere. Food was great, just sandwich and chips, but very well done and served with a smile. Great company, people we only met whilst sitting in the beer garden. Dog and child friendly. All in all very relaxing on a lovely day.

The Golden Ball is our local. It’s friendly and food has always been good. We haven’t eaten here for a while but decided to have a mid week treat as my sister in law ate here recently and said that she had a great meal. It was really delicious. I had the goats cheese risotto which I find can be bland but it had so much flavour, my husband had pork loin which again was cooked perfectly with a lovely well balanced mustard sauce. Even the salad was lovely! I passed on my compliments and was told there was a new chef. We will be returning again very soon.

We ate here twice during our stay in Ironbridge. The pub is attractive with good food, not just the usual "pub grub." I had a beet and goat cheese tart and another time spinach and feta tortellini.

Fantastic local pub. Dog friendly. Always prompt bar service. The chilli and rice was fantastic this week. Leffe lager always a life saver at the end of a hard week.

5 of us eat at the Golden Ball for an evening meal. There were a few regulars at the bar but strangely nobody eating. we need not have worried as the food was lovely and the young lady serving was very friendly. Upon speaking to the owner we discovered that the locals had been there earlier to watch Wales beat Scotland (oh and the other game featuring the Italians) and had probably had enough to eat and drink and had gone home. Would throroughly recommend

Really excellent food and very fair pricing. We both had fish and it was really excellent. The Inn was not busy so service was good. I had the one (French) chardonnay and it was good. Desserts did not disappoint. Finding this place and parking is a bit of a challenge but worth it for a great weekday lunch

We were actually planning on going to the pub next door after reading the reviews on TripAdvisor so after walking through town and up a large hill was very disappointed to find that shut on a Monday night, so went to the Golden Ball instead. I had baked haddock with prawns which was delicious and would recommend it, the menu was not large but was enough to choose from they also serve the Eley pork pies if you fancy a snack. There is seating outside in the garden as well as inside. The downside was the beer, husband likes real ales but did not have one he considered to rate as good. The service and friendliness of the staff was good

What a great find the golden ball is. Run by friendly Helen and her staff. Meals are superb. Varied menu. Food is freshly cooked and delicious. Accommodation is clean and very comfortable with a dog friendly room as well. The bar is friendly and lively with regular quizzes and local fundraising events as well. Now found we do not stay anywhere else. Convenient for Ironbridge and easy car parking.

We found the Golden Ball thanks to a local man we spoke to as we were beginning to think there were no pubs open in the area. We were the only customers but it was about 2.30pm. The staff were very nice and we had some really nice sandwiches and chips

We had great food and local brew here. I tried the ploughman's lunch which came with a small baby lettuce salad and my husband tried shrimp and grits. If you want to sit on the restaurant side, get here early.

We stumbled across this pub by accident looking for The Horse & Jockey and stopped for a drink before dinner. We didn't eat here but the menu looked good. In hindsight, wish we had trusted our instincts and stayed for food after our rather disappointing dining experience at The Horse & Jockey. There was a good selection of locally brewed ales on offer and the pub had a homely atmosphere. Would recommend.

We were disappointed tonight, on Christmas Eve, when we arrived at The Golden Ball for a drink, only to be turned away. It has been our annual tradition, since 1982, to sing carols on the Ironbridge on Christmas Eve. From 1988 that included a drink in the Golden Ball on the walk home.Tonight we were told that our family of 8 was too big a group to accommodate. The pub was obviously not full, as we could easily see through the windows. This has ruined our night and we will choose to drink and eat somewhere more welcoming in future.

We love the golden ball. Excellent food, always a good variety and not your normal pub grub. Great choice of real ales too. Such a pleasant little place to eat. We use it for special occasions, such is the abience but also for the occasional nice meal when the mood takes us.

The pub is well run and you will find the Landlord behind the bar making sure everything runs well. They serve food during the day and up to 9pm in the evening. There is a nice outdoor area and parking. Wooden interior and tables and you will find locals there enjoying a pint or a bite to eat!

I great place to dine. We use it as a "special occasion" place. They offer some great food, inventive menu. They offer some great real ales, good selection and guest ales frequent this pub. Good for a larger family gathering, has a nice pub garden, a short stroll down hill to Ironbridge centre (bit of a steep walk back though). Great hosts, we have always felt very welcome.

We have visited the Golden Ball at least half a dozen times a year for the past 5 years and have never had a bad experience.Service is always friendly and efficient while maintaining a relaxed feel. The menu has a good choice of interesting meat and fish dishes and there is usually at least one vegetarian option. The quality of food is more restaurant standard than pub food and the pricing is what you would expect to pay in a pub. There is a good selection of local real ales available and they are always well kept.We normally come here as a family group and we find it ideal for a mixed aged group.

Having used this pub many years ago on a regular basis, it was nice to go back to see what it was like. The menu was good, something for everyone, prices not too bad. Had a glass of Pinot Grigio, it would have possibly been nice had it been chilled not room temperature, but it still tasted like a very cheap bottle of wine. We ordered 2 steak baguettes. The onions were extremely greasy, so much so the bottom of the baguette was soggy. Tasted ok but could be better. Nice pub though with no loud music blaring forth, so you could hold a conversation. I will return, maybe this was just an off day.

A lovely local pub just up the hill out of ironbridge, its tucked away so if you dont know about it its not obvious but that means its not over run with tourists. The beer is always good as is the food.

We discovered this pub on a recent visit to the Ironbridge Gorge and felt it worthy of a review. The pub doesn't look much from the outside but it had been recommended by our hosts at the B&B so we decided to give it a go. Very glad we did as the inside was decorated perfectly and had a real homely feel. The menu is by means of a blackboard on the wall with around 5-6 starters and 10-12 mains. We decided against starters as we we're still quite full from lunch at an excellent café in Shrewsbury (which I will review elsewhere). For mains I had the Stuffed Chicken (which I requested the chef replace potatoes and veg with chips and salad and he was happy to do so) and the wife had the homemade lasagne. Both dishes were absolutely delicious. I tasted my wife's lasagne as I don't normally order these out (preferring my own recipe) but I have to say it was very good.Price wise I don't think they're too far off the mark - £12.45 for the chicken and £9.95 for the lasagne, a trio of ice-cream for dessert was £3.95.All in all an excellent find and I would go back if in the area again.

My friend and I were looking for somewhere to eat late on a Sunday afternoon and decided upon The Golden Ball because I had enjoyed an evening drink there a couple of years back and thought how nice it was.The menu is drawn up on a blackboard in the dining area of the pub. Some of the dishes had run out by the time we got there but that wasn't a problem as it was quite late and although there wasn't a huge variety available there were some unusual choices as well as the classic pub type dishes. I chose a greek style lamb cutlet which came with greek salad and sounded very appetising. Now I'm not particularly squeamish and quite like rare cooked meat but happily for me someone on a nearby table had ordered the same and had to send it back because it was so pink that all the fat appeared to be completely raw. On seeing this I went back and requested that mine be well done. I'm so glad I did because when it came it was lovely, crispy fat and all. There was a very generous helping of salad which included greek cheese and black olives and lovely fresh tomatoes. I thoroughly enjoyed it.My friend had a generous sized roast pork Sunday lunch which he seemed to enjoy as there were no complaints. The pub is situated just outside Ironbridge down a very quaint little road with lovely little terraced cottages either side. It really is very pretty with a lovely beer garden and plenty of parking space in a large car park. The prices were reasonable and the portion sizes were good.I would say give it a try - I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Visited in a party of 10 on a Friday night. The pub was busy, but the restaurant fairly quiet. No printed menu as such, just dishes listed on a blackboard. The waitress started off by telling us which dishes were in short supply which was a bit strange. We ordered a range of food from chicken to fish to vegetarian dishes. All of it was served hot and was very tasty. Not quite gastro pub quality but a good pretender. Would definitely return again.

I found this through Trip Advisor and agree that the food is excellent, The only problem was that we had to wait a bit to long for the food which meant we didn't have time for puds (gutted as I was looking forward to the orange cheesecake!). The reason was probably because of the unexpected surge of bridge players (we were 4 of them) which they hadn't bargained for! I would eat there again though as the food was excellent at a good price and the service friendly

While we stayed at the Calcutts House in Ironbridge, we went for for an evening meal to The Golden Ball. The pub was not easy to find as the sign-posting was a bit obscure but once we got there, there was ample parking just outside. They have a small restaurant but I don't think they care much about it. It's basically a 'drinking pub' and if you want to eat, I suggest you have the bar menu and eat in the bar. As for the restaurant, there was no printed menu (just the black board), and the staff did not bother to enquire after serving food. The food itself was not bad at all, but a little expensive for pub-standard service!Basically, if you want a drink (and a bite even), this place is probably OK, but if you are after a nice and cosy evening meal, please look else where!

We came out for my birthday dinner. Myself, partner and 2 children. The waitress was beyond amazing, took our drinks order and was so quick! We ordered our food, I ordered a lot of sushi, my partner the lamb chops and both kids had the kids burgers. The lamb chops were tasty, the kids enjoyed the burgers but my goodness - the sushi was absolutely mind-blowing!!! I enjoy my sushi and have it regularly and this was the best sushi I’ve had in a long time!! I do not understand why this restaurant isn’t busier!!! They deserve to be busy all the time! If your nearby give them a chance!!!
