The Globe in Exeter

Wonderful pub! Stopped off for an impromptu meal and we were all thrilled with this place. The staff were welcoming and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. No problem coping with a severe sesame allergy. Food was absolutely fantastic. Good portion sizes and very good prices. Would highly recommend and will definitely be visiting again.

We have been to The Globe many times and will come back in the future. Generally, the visit this time was also enjoyable, due to the attentive and very friendly staff. As usual, the menu had a good selection of meals, including for vegetarians and pescatarians. We were very happy with the taste and the presentation of our selection. Also the value for money is very good. One of the other reasons we keep coming back is the atmosphere, partly due to the interior design, the age of the building, but also with regards to the staff who is always willing to help. One thing we didn't enjoy this time was the long waiting times between sitting down with the menus, ordering drinks, ordering food, food arriving, asking for the bill, and being able to pay. Every step seems to drag on much longer than comfortable. Maybe there was a shortage of staff or other issues. However, when we had the attention of a staff member I can only praise them for their customer service.

Went for Sunday lunch. Although the food was very good the service initially was slow. Should really take a drinks order when bring seated as had to wait quite a while until we could order. Veg portions v. Small considering all roasts over £20 a head. The 2 person veg portion was probably about right for 1 person. Although food was good, felt that it was over priced really.

very nicely cooked lemon sole and steak. Waitress (Charlotte) was a delight, and was very happy to adjust the dishes, substituting potatoes for bread. Relaxed and comfortable meal, with personal service from all the staff.

Really disappointing service and food for our first meal here last night. Yes it was busy but there were three separate requests we made that were ignored ~ a knife we asked for wasn’t brought, nor ketchup we later on requested. Our bill took so long I just went up to pay. Also the bottle of rose we had turned out to be 8% ~ surely most wines are always over 11%? Would have been nice to be informed that it wad “low” alcohol. Ive always loved the Globe for drinks but doubt id use the restaurant there again.

Our breakfast table was pre booked for 10am. When we arrived at 10.05 a very pleasant young man checked our booking and told us that someone had just gone in and sat at the table reserved for us. (They weren’t asked to move) We were then shown to a table outside of the restaurant that had to be laid up in the lobby near reception and the restrooms. We ordered our choice of coffee to begin and asked for a breakfast menu to be brought to us which they did. After waiting at least 30 minutes, our coffee still had not arrived, I went into the restaurant area and told the staff we were still waiting for our coffee and could someone come to take our breakfast order and please bring us the coffee. I also suggested that if it was easier for them we could move & sit in the restaurant as there were now vacant tables but they didn’t take us up on the suggestion. . After another ten minutes the coffee finally arrived and we asked them to take our breakfast order which they did. We drank our coffee but breakfast still took ages to arrive. When it came it was well presented and was nice so no complaints on the food. The restaurant staff were polite & pleasant but they seemed inexperienced and probably were short staffed. As a final comment the beam in the ceiling above was dripping water on the table, probably a leaky shower tray in one of the bedrooms. We told the staff who reported it to the reception staff. They said they knew about the leak.

The most delicious Sunday lunch, there were two vegetarian options which is highly unusual but we had both and they were both delicious. Lots of variety of vegetables and really friendly, helpful staff. We would highly recommend.

My wife and I recently enjoyed a Sunday lunch with a friend at the Globe, we made a prior reservation as a previous visit for drinks had showed us it was a popular pub. Our foot arrived shortly after ordering, it was delivered piping hot and presented really nicely. All main meals were devoured with relish, we then had 3 desserts which again were very tasty and well presented. A great afternoon in a great gastro pub, my go to place when visiting Topsham, thank you the Globe…

Lovely place to stay, beautiful and very clean rooms. Staff are friendly and helpful. Pretty village. Only thing that we had a problem with was no parking. Please don't be put off there are 2 car parks close by.

Been here twice now for a meal and both times , the service and food were brilliant Did not use the rooms so couldn't comment on those.

Stayed here over the new year and all I can say is WOW!!! What an amazing evening, live music and a late bar to see the new year in. The Atmosphere was amazing and one of the best New Year Eve event I have been to in years. Food was fantastic and the staff & service was on point! Had the market fish which was super tasty with lots and lots of Tribute which is a cracking pint. The pub was well decorated for the festive season and was ram packed with people which made the night. The female singer in the evening was fanatic and really made the night extra special. We will be back for sure!!

Just been for lunch but not impressed. Had to wait 40 minutes to be served. Ordered fish sandwich, hardly any fish just over cooked dry batter. Thought we would get better due to the wait, afraid we won't be going back. On the plus side the staff were very nice. Stuart. M.

We went here for a roast dinner on Sunday afternoon. It all looked amazing and we were really looking forward to getting our meal. But the food was served almost cold and the two small bowls of veg they gave us to share between 6 people was laughable! We didn't get our sauces or gravy until half way through the meal and the gravy was cold too. I was hoping it might be hot and heat up what remained of my meal but no. I didn't say anything at the time because our friends had gone on about how good it was so didn't want them to feel bad but it was quite pricey and we wouldn't go again.

I would like to congratulate The Globe for there excellent Christmas Day Lunch and all the staff for all there hard work in making it a lovely day the service was excellent and the food was hot and delicious well done to everyone who was involved

We stayed overnight before our wedding so had breakfast and then came back for a small wedding party Christmas lunch. The staff were friendly and polite. The food was delicious and they had several vegan options on the menu. Comfy beds, very clean rooms and also dog friendly (only certain rooms allow dogs).

We had delicious fish and chips here. Great Christmas spirit and friendly bar staff!

Came here a year ago. What an incredible difference now. The rooms were always good but the food and the service has improved enormously. Fantastic service in the restaurant. Lovely hotel all round.

Pre Christmas so busy and service very slow. Had a modest portion of fish pie for £20 which had two pieces of fish in it. Other diners had average burger and dry venison. Disappointing to say the least, especially as it was a birthday celebration.

Charlotte gave us excellent service , Thankyou . One star deducted for overcooked veg but Turkey was well cooked

Business meeting here Friday and were looked after. Great lunch and nice breakout room. Festive looked in full swing this week, making me want to bring the wife at the weekend !

Great Xmas party - easily the best pub in Topsham!

Right in the heart of beautiful Topsham this is certainly one of my favourite South West pubs 🍺

We chose the globe for our wedding breakfast and we were looked after amazingly. So we decided to come back to stay for a night. The hospitality was top notch, the staff were so friendly and welcoming, like walking into a family home. Grace and Freddie were so helpful, as was Dez (?), they genuinely made it their missions to make sure we were happy, comfortable and satisfied.. it has been the most comfortable and comforting, and fun night away from home. Thank you to all the staff, we have stayed in many places but honestly this has been an utter joy. Thank you to everyone who has made it happen. Can't wait to stay again!!

One of the best places to stay in Topsham. Cozy rooms, great food, and friendly staff! Shoutout to Isabella (Izzy) for her warm welcome and great service!!! We will be certainly coming back soon!

If I could have posted without a star I would have! Dreadful service and mediocre overpriced food! Sat down in the restaurant at 1pm, had to request menus, large party came in after this and order was taken from them and another table before us, had to request waiting staff to take our order, food arrived at 2:20pm

Two nights spent in Topsham having dined in the Globe restaurant. The food was delicious, all home cooked and presented very well. Great portion sizes! All staff very very friendly and attentive. Great little bistro pub for the foodies!

Only stopped for coffee, but it's a lovely place, and I would like to stay here. There's more to see than I could fit into 2 hours

Lovely old pub with oak beams, etc. Nice looking rooms,and even when busy, you can normally find a seat,parking is a bit of a problem though.

August 6-7 Enjoyable break, Comfortable room, breakfasts good, Nice pub, good choice of beers. Perfect location for travelling to Exeter. Parking to unload can be a problem in the day time. Holman Way Car Park is a good choice as you can walk via the rear of the pub and it’s a short distance. We would stay again.

We booked for lunch on Charter Day, which meant the town was busy and service a bit slow at times. My disappointment stemmed from the food and pricing. I ordered the monkfish scampi which was 5 pieces of breaded fish, probably little more than a fish finger in all, with a dish of guochujang sauce, which tasted like soy sauce possibly with some guochujang paste added. A lack of garnish made it look very dull, and meant there was nothing to soften the quite brutal sauce. I followed with a crab sandwich which I was sure would be good at £24. Wrong! One lettuce leaf, margarine, white bread and a modest amount of unseasoned crab meant a seriously underwhelming sandwich. The advertised skin-on fries were just fries and again, no garnish. It looked and tasted dull in the extreme, and was monumentally overpriced. My partner faired better but portions were small for the prices charged. On the plus side the pub is lovely and staff were friendly despite being very busy. However when you’re out for lunch, the food should take centre stage.

Had an extremely disappointing meal at the globe. Usually the foods good but on this occasion my first choice was unavailable so I opted for the crab and chilli linguine. What I got was a bowl of tepid pasta with chopped tomato and oil. There was no taste evidence of crab and definitely no chilli. At £23.50 it was poor value especially with half the ingredients missing and not hot. To be fair I both emailed and sent a direct message to the globe about this giving them the chance to discuss but both have been ignored so have a Tripadvisor review instead

Stayed two nights for Topsham's Charter Day. Great trips on the train to Exeter and Exmouth Beach. The Globe was great. Very centrally located, great room and great staff. They managed to squeeze us in for dinner when they were absolutely full on Sunday night. Great value breakfast too. Will return!

Excellent hotel conveniently place in main street in Topsham. Very friendly welcoming staff, good reasonably priced food and comfortable accommodation. Atmospheric bars and pleasant restaurant and outside seating on raised decking in the courtyard outside.Note parking is not available but there is a long stay carpark which is only 100 metres away from the hotel reached by walking down the road immediately opposite the carpark (Globefield)

Dinner at the Globe was outstanding. Food delicious and lovely taste combinations. Best of all was the service from the lovely Josh. Well worth a visit.

3 night stay in late July, will definitely be returning. Beautiful building and perfect location. Great breakfasts and the evening meal we had here was excellent. Great menu choices, lovely bar and welcoming and helpful team. Room (7) was spacious and comfortable, there is noise from the courtyard but this is advised on the website and the staff are very good at ensuring that this doesn't extend beyond 11pm. Overall, a comfortable and lovely stay. Strongly recommend.

Good pub experience. Decent food & attentive staff. Nice historic building with lots of space if you’re a bigger group.

We stayed five nights in comfy rooms. All the staff were friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived. James, Josh, Harry, Tilda and Jo, and others. The covered garden was noisy but fun, and never disturbed our sleep. The quiz on Saturday night was an added bonus. Breakfasts were delicious and generous. Dinner was nice but not memorable, but no worries. We didn't expect gourmet. The town is a delight, and right on our doorstep.

We had a wonderfully relaxing weekend away at the Globe and sadly have had to leave, but we were welcomed by a cheerful and enthusiastic team. All the food we had there was delicious and our room was comfortable and spotlessly clean. If you want to get away from it all for a while then this is the place along with all Topsham and the surrounding area has to offer

Overall our stay was OK but we would only return if the rooms were refurbished. Our room was a dog friendly room that cost us an extra £15 per night but it was tired and in need of maintenance. The sink was cracked, the shower screen was broken and the carpet was disgustingly dirty and stained. The positives were that our room was cleaned well daily and lovely fluffy towels were replaced along with bottled water, tea, coffee and biscuits. There were nice touches we appreciated which included a great welcome pack of dog biscuits, dog bowls and mat, dog treats and even dog beer as well as a beer for adults. The toiletries were all Elemis and included a pillow spray which was lovely. We only had one meal and it was good. We would have liked to sample breakfast but we had to leave early because The Globe doesn’t have parking and there’s tight restrictions on the street parking.

Used to be our favourite Topsham venue but it has gone downhill. Food was OK but nothing special like it used to be, staff friendly but not very efficient (table was never cleared of dirty plates). Horrible dirty, rusty towel under leaky radiator in the Ladies loo added to the feeing that little care is being given to this fine old establishment. It’s a shame.

Excellent food and service. The roast beef was really nicely done, and the portion sizes really generous. The staff were really friendly and helpful. It is in a great location, albeit there's no street parking directly outside, which is nice once you're outside to be fair.

Fantastic find for a nice price too. Both of us loved the overhead shower and slept very well. The room was a little hot, I would recommend a fan but to be fair, I never asked for one. The quality of the coffee/tea and shower gel/hand wash was superb. I would say though that the bedside tables were a little dusty and the TV couldn't connect to the the free WiFi so we couldn't utilise netflix/Amazon etc. I would also comment on the availability to source hot food elsewhere and take it back to our room but we had to eat from the pub, in the pub. Which seemed odd to me

My husband, the dog and I have just returned from a 2 night stay at the Globe. I have stayed on numerous occasions and it just gets better and better. The welcome is fantastic, the rooms are so well equipped with everything you could possibly want, the evening meals and breakfast are superb. Anywhere that offers marmite at breakfast gets my vote! We will be back…..

Lovely food. I had the goats cheese salad, very tasty as was the redefined burger. Finished with a perfect sticky toffee pudding. Lovely staff too.

2 people behind the bar chatting. "I'm higher educated" said one to other but not apparently to a level where she could spot a waiting customer in an almost empty bar!

Second stay at the Globe. Absolutely fabulous rooms, and nice food too. A joy. We'll be back.

I had such a fantastic experience at The Globe Pub for my sister's birthday! Our waiter, Sam, was incredibly lovely and helpful. He even went the extra mile to put a candle in my sister's pudding, which made the celebration even more special. The food was amazing, especially the mussels - I couldn't recommend them more! I will definitely be coming back when we are all back in Topsham together. Such a great place for special occasions!

We had a wonderful time at The Globe Pub when my husband, another couple, and I visited. We requested a table by the window and were seated at a lovely table. For starters, we enjoyed the prawn cocktail, followed by fish and chips for mains, and it was all perfect - the fish was outstanding! Our waiters, Maddie and Sam, were so accommodating and even recommended the perfect wines to complement our meals. We'll definitely be returning very soon!

Me and my husband came in for a anniversary and we were not disappointed at all, we moved the decor, the vibe and whole experience as a whole, we will definitely be back again, We had a server called Ryan and he made sure we had everything we needed for a great night, hope he gets a pay rise!

Had an amazing breakfast! Now open to walkins serving breakfast which is an amazing. we stopped off on the off chance and managed to get a spot. I had a full English and my friend had the bacon pancakes which were fantastic. They also do an amazing deal, were you can get continental breakfast offer as well for £15 definitely worth popping in and try out their breakfast deals

Recommended by a friend, I thought I'd take a visit. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming and cosy. Bar staff were full of smiles. I didn't prebook a table but a waiter called Ryan was so friendly and found us a table quickly. Nothing was too much trouble for him and he was so helpful and attentive. Approachable and chatty, with such a friendly smile. A great asset to a great pub/restaurant. The food was delicious especially the mussels in garlic and white wine sauce. We'll be definitely dining there again and have highly Recommended to others.

Me and my friends stayed last weekend and the room was lovely, the bar/restaurant staff were lovely but Ryan took care of us and he did an excellent job! The food was 10/10 Definitely coming back again

My wife and I stayed at the globe recently and we absolutely loved it, very scenic and picturesque, we came for a weekend and loved every minute of it, the breakfast in the morning was lovely staff were always on top of it, One staff member Ryan really went all out for us, always checking on our table making sure we are well kept, Gold star for him! 100% coming back again

Went in a Saturday early evening. Atmosphere was a bit stuffy for my liking, to be honest. Seemed to be the time for the "older generation," which was surprising as it was a Saturday! The food was OK. Limited vegetarian options. Husbands chicken was dry, potatoes were dry, and the carrots were too hard. I had mussels with some tasty bread. Butter was served in foil packages, would have liked it in a bowl and not prepacked. Food was quite average really. Good wines on offer tho!

Stayed for four nights. Had two evening meals and one breakfast whilst staying here. Food was generally good. I recommend the trio of fish; Sole, Monkfish and Hake. Breakfast was reasonable value compared to other breakfast venues in the village. Had a nice first floor courtyard room which was well maintained, everything worked as it should. Plenty of hot water, nice quality shower gel, hand soap and body cream. Shaver charging point. Particularly liked the adjustable Temperature towel rail. We got fresh bath towels on day two. Zip and Link bed was comfortable, we slept really well. TV had good selection of channels. Tea and coffee tray was excellent with top quality Tea Pigs tea bags, hot chocolate sachets and nice coffee sachets. A quality two pack of ginger cookies and a pack of chocolate cookies were supplied on three of the four days. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, bar staff were knowledgeable about the local ales. Housekeeping were friendly and looked after our room daily. Kitchen and waiting staff were smart and polite and attentive. The courtyard seating area is nice with large olive trees all around giving it a Mediterranean feel, lots of hanging baskets. Some of the leather furniture in the bar areas was a little tired and in need of repair or replacement, I only mention this in the hope that it helps the inn to get some new stuff when the brewery have a spending spree. I had a bizarre experience as I was departing the hotel to go home. I recognised one of the draymen delivering kegs to be a chap I had served with in the RAF nineteen years ago, we made each others day, it was nice to see you again Andy!

We love the pub, it’s a beautiful country pub in lovely Topsham . The room we stayed in, room 4, was beautiful and super clean. The staff, food and atmosphere were brilliant

What a lovey hotel, we only stayed one night but comfortable rooms, tea and coffee facilities, modern facilities. The Receptionist was very professional on arrival , great food , great location .

Stopped of for lunch as the menu looked good! We weren’t disappointed, hubby chose Fish & Chips & I opted for the Roast Lamb, the food was fresh, tasty and plentiful The staff were welcoming & the service was excellent, We would definitely eat there again.

Disappointing food! I NEVER send my food back anywhere, but the so-called crab linguini was so greasy and tasted of oil, not the creamy, lime, lobster-infused taste the menu promised. I was offered an alternative (squid) which was nice enough (though still charged £18 for the main). My friend had to cut open her fish and chips to relieve the fish from the thick batter which was over cooked and greasy. Such a shame, we were really looking forward to our meal as the menu, pictures and reviews were so promising. We felt so sorry for the young man who served us, he was lovely and apologetic and clearly apologetic. Not his fault at all, he did the best he could!

Great place to stay. We only stayed one night but extremely comfortable and clean rooms. The staff were so friendly and the breakfast excellent. Located in Topsham a good place to explore from.
