Good coffee only thing I would recommend is a cardboard sleeve for my takeaway coffee as it was to hot 🔥

Perfect little coffee shop, busy enough there's a vibe quiet enough you can get work done. Win Win.

Needed a dog friendly cafe and thanks to Google maps found this place. Nice drink(chai latte) decent sandwich (ham and cheese toastie) offers a dog drinking bowl and free pet treats

Drank an excellent cappuccino and a smoothie. I thank an Italian girl who works there, whose name I don't know, for her kindness and professionalism

It is a very cosy cafe and the staff are very freindly. Great to take freinds or sit and do some work.

Always fabulous atmosphere. Tucked away which makes it less hectic than high street coffee shops. Just covered the caramel choux nut and my life is now changed. Oh my God!!!

Our go to Coffee House on a trip to Exeter with friendly staff great atmosphere and lovely Cakes & snacks. Outside seating when the weather is nice overlooking the Roman City Walls. Even let us eat our own cakes (which we had purchased at another place intending to eat later when home) by brining over two plates and forks!!!

Still a great place to come for a coffee or early breakfast as they open at 7:00 on weekdays. They offer two types of coffee normally plus a decaf alternative and the huge selection of pastries, sandwiches and cakes. The berry cherry smoothie was good but did separate after only a very short time so I think they need to adjust their recipe a bit. Sept 2023 Great coffee shop with a range of coffees available. A very busy place though more like a canteen style because it’s so big and noisy. Not really a relaxing place to sit and ponder

It was home. Friendly people. Food was vgood. Coffee tasted fresh and delicious. All in all, it's a very good place.

Terrible service would not bother going

Served a cold toasted sandwich, I took it back and they retoasted it, it was not that great, waitress said I could have a free coffee or sandwich replaced, I chose a free coffee, never saw her again, never got the coffee...shame, better places to spend your money in Exeter.

As a regular customer at coffee #1, I was disappointed with the quality of the cappuccino I ordered, firstly it was served in a takeaway cup due to the back log of pots & secondly the strength of coffee was lacking I spoke to the young lady who served me, she kindly made fresh ones, unfortunately these were no better Not sure what the issue was but hopefully it won't happen again

Why don't you stock gluten free cakes and other foods? Many people have Coeliac disease or choose to be gluten free.

No gluten free savoury items whatsoever!! You missed out on food sales as no one in our party would eat when I couldn't. It's not hard to have at least one GF item on sale. We don't all want to eat cakes all the time! Will choose elsewhere in future.

Lovely coffee with a nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The only downside is the dry/stale cakes i often get given and have to return!!

Ordered from here this morning and was missing items. The drinks also came half empty as they spilled all in the carrier bag. Only received refund for missing item. Won’t be going here again.

Gone right down hill and overpriced. Had bacon roll with hardly any bacon in it and was really greasy. Then had the carrot cake which they put in a bag and the which took all the buttercream off the top. Why not put it in a box. Wouldn't recommend whatsoever

Lovely coffee shop, tucked away behind the hustle and bustle of the city centre. Quality of drinks were to the high standard I've come to expect from other coffee 1 shops.

Nice place, lovely coffee. That's if you can find a table that isn't being hogged by students with laptops and empty cups.

Good chain of coffee shops with early opening times. Range of breakfast items is great for meat eaters, less so for vegetarians. Lots of milk choice for hot drinks. Plenty of space inside the Exeter shop to unwind and watch the world go by.

This place is great, but please, fewer students on laptops taking lots of tables up! is very annoying' when you need a chair

Nice coffee but very sly at adding on the limited edition roasted bean option without stating it costs more.

Someone must have stolen the Christmas decorations. Probably the least amount of Christmas decorations in a coffee shop. The shop has been renovated really well, just a shame the manager haven't inspired the staff to decorate. Staff are friendly enough, but could definitely learn a lot from the Plymouth Coffee 1.

Sat at dirty table. No-one clearing

Always very busy in here which gives it a nice bustle, however that can make it tricky to find a place to sit! I have enjoyed a couple free drinks by using the app and the referral bonus. It's a good place to study (free WiFi), with a good selection of drinks and sweet treats

Missed lunch so called in early afternoon for coffee which has always been excellent here. It was up to the usual standard. However I made the mistake of ordering a sausage bap to tide me over. It was dreadful. poor quality sausage that had been 'cooked' to death and was super dry, delivered in a dry bun with no butter. I waded through it as I was so hungry, people on an adjoining table said I should complain, I looked at the queue and literally couldn't be bothered.

Used to love this place - however today was left very disappointed. Stood in queue with husband to purchase lunch and a young person jumped the line and was served. Then served with a teapot that lid didn't close. The same happened during the week. I don't wish for cold tea ! However considering my age perhaps I am in the wrong place...lots of laptops !!! Shame because the cookie and cream cake is divine.

The decaff Americano was as good as it said on the board, when I eventually got it. The staff are extremely thorough in taking orders and have avoiding eye contact with customers off to a fine art.

I had a delicious piece of carrot cake 🍰😋 Mmm, & my friends had cappuccino cake & a toasted tea cake. Although the tea cake was great & quite large, the cappuccino cake was rather dry & disappointing. It was cold where I was sitting but maybe that's my fault for sitting under the air con outlet. 🥶🙄

Atmosphere positively unchanged since they opened. It's so weird to see a business thriving in this financial crisis where independent venues just don't survive. Nice coffee, nice staff, I've overused 'nice' already so... nice cakes. It could be busy with kids screaming or running around. Which isn't nice! But they are our future after all.

I loved the fruit, Granola and yogurt my husband throughly enjoyed his cheese and mushroom toastie and our daughter was really happy with her choice of croissant. They're oat milk latte was the best we've had yet. Friendly staff, clean cafe and toilets

One of my favorite study spots in Exeter! Fantastic coffees and teas, and excellent Toasties and desserts as well.

The service has been inconsistent. I've visited this branch several times and the staff are always completely disinterested in the customers and their needs. More than once, they gave me wrong order and did not apologise. They seemed annoyed when I asked for napkins. I understand working at a cafe can be stressful, but there is a minimum customer service that is not being delivered.

I recently visited Caffe 1 and had a delightful experience. The coffee was not only superbly brewed but also served with a genuine smile. The friendly staff made me feel right at home, enhancing the overall atmosphere of the café. It's evident that they take pride in their service, creating a warm and inviting environment for customers. I highly recommend Caffe 1 to anyone looking for a great cup of coffee served with a side of friendliness. I'll certainly be returning for more.

The friendly staff, especially Tobias who is always welcoming, thoughtful and shows great customer service, have resulted in coffee one becoming our regular place for a relaxing pot of tea. It's also dog friendly which is a definite bonus.

Tend to always head to this coffee shop when in the city. Still absolutely great coffee but what on earth has happened to the bacon rolls? I assume a new cheaper supplier? More fat than bacon and a really unpleasant flavour, tasted cheap and nasty. You’ve lost our custom!

Coffee was ok but the bacon roll was vile. More fat than bacon and an appalling taste. I always thought bacon would stop me being vegetarian, if bacon always tasted like this I would become vegetarian tomorrow!

Visited Exeter today and again the service and drinks were great. Ines said hello as she recognised me from recent visits and even remembered the drinks for myself and my wife. Monika made two lovely creamy hot small Lattes, House Blend. Tobias is always friendly and chatty and was great with the customer service today when he replaced an item after asking if the lady enjoyed her cake. No quibbles, an apology and a replacement. Well done Team. See you soon. 👍

I used to drink my coffee every morning in different places. But since I went to coffee 1 and was served so nicely by Monika very beautiful girl with a very beautiful smile , I can't stay away from coffee1 anymore!

Popped in for a quick couple of drinks and a slice of cake whilst shopping, both commented it was the loveliest bit of cake we had in a long time. However whilst ordering I almost walked out due to the rudeness of a male server on the till at 2pm. Make sure you answer the regimented questions in full and correctly or you will get barked at. Don't order cake along with your drinks - wait patiently for the server to ask otherwise again you will get barked at. "WERE JUST DOING DRINKS NOW" x2 Such a shame. It will affect the buisness long term - you don't feel relaxed after how you are spoken to, its really demeaning.

fake and robotic not welcoming place to go

Gorgeous coffee - definitely try the guest roast it's lovely. The initial walk in area has been refreshed and looks so much better. Now has 2 loos which is an improvement too. Had a Portuguese tart fresh from the oven - fabulous.

It was humming on a Saturday morning, but the staff behind the counter were friendly and the coffee and scone order was produced quickly. Seemed noisy indoors, but it was pleasant enough to sit outside, which is what I'd recommend if you can find a table.

Ambience brilliant and chai latte perfect but I’m afraid the cappuccino cake was a let down. Waste of calories as so dry but very tasty.

As with almost every coffee shop in England they don't really understand a strong Americana 🤔, it's served in a mug and not a coffee cup and is virtually tasteless, having lived in Europe on and off for many years I find the difference in coffee qualitie remarkably, but perhaps the Brits like weak milky coffee fair enough, but I have not given up yet.

Unbelievably rude attitude from the male member of staff serving on 7th July 2023. He really needs to work on his customer service and accept that in this case the customer was right. Certainly wouldn't visit again.

Lovely little coffee shop. Friendly staff and beautiful coffee. Wasn’t so sure about what I thought was an almond croissant but was some sort of custard filled croissant which was also very dry considering!

Lovely drinks just so slow to process the orders

The let down for me was the male member of the team rushing around while the ladies where organised. The man walked into me knocking a glass of water completely over my face and head....he completely ignored this and carried on rushing around without checking that I was okay.An older person or someone smaller would most definitely have been knocked over. Piss ignorant and will not be going back, over £ 23 quid wasted

I appreciate the vegan cake options. But if your order a frappe prepare for it to be utterly tasteless as they don’t use espresso and basically just milk and syrup. Truly who can afford to pay for a drink when it is lacklustre? In my opinion there is not one place in Exeter which knows how to make good cafe drinks. It is indeed lacking. And it’s worse because I live here so wished there were better places to get nice drinks especially in the hot summer.

I have been drinking coffee here for the past year. The coffee is good and the service is personal and friendly .Monika and Tobias are always nice to talk and make it the friendly place. They make the coffee just how I like it and they now remember it as well . Definitely the best in Exeter .

Manager was in a bad mood, shouting at his staff. No way to run a store.

Waited in line. Staff just looked at me continued to have their social conversation and did not serve. Serving customers was not on their agenda anytime soon.

Mr Piper was unprofessional and rude I recently visited a #1coffee shop and was extremely disappointed with my experience. The coffee that I ordered was cold and tasted like it had been sitting out for hours. To make matters worse, the barista who served me was incredibly grumpy and unprofessional. Their sour attitude made me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable, and I left feeling sad and frustrated. As someone who loves coffee and enjoys trying out new coffee shops, it's always disappointing to have a bad experience like this. I was really looking forward to trying out this particular coffee shop, but unfortunately, my visit was a complete letdown. I hope that the #1 coffee shop management takes note of this review and works to improve their service and quality of their coffee. No one wants to pay for a bad experience, especially when it comes to something as simple as a cup of coffee. I certainly won't be returning to this coffee shop and would advise others to steer clear as well.

Ordered 2 toasties. I came with incorrect filling. Both were not very hot and a bit soggy. Wont be going again

Our favourite place to unwind. Can sit and watch the world go by. Tea cakes and croissants are huge.

Very expensive, and the toilet door doesn't work so I had a very embarrassing experience that I won't go into detail about. However, the coffee was good.

I used to come to coffee#1 all of the time! It was Exeter’s best kept coffee secret for a long while, but since new management have come in, the standards have dropped! Ordered my usual oat latte to-go and it came out in perfect timing, it was just a little too hot.. I also ordered a toasted tea cake, which I was given about 8 minutes after my coffee (so yes I was stood at the end of the bar, like a lemon, while 10 other customers got their drinks and left) when it did come out to me it was burnt, and I was given only a tiny amount of butter to put on it. It was a bit dry to say the least🙃

I came today for the first time and ordered a sandwich and sat outside because the inside was crowded. the sandwich was delicious but I couldn’t finish it because a seagull came and grabbed my food and I left upset. no one advised me that seagulls could kidnap my food, has this happened before?

Lovely man at the till and very nice food and drink but let down by an incredibly rude lady. Asked if I should wait for my panini or grab a seat and she rudely replied with - well yes that’s why you have a table number and rolled her eyes

Difficult to find a seat due to alot of singles at double tables on lap tops with headphones on (37 when we visited) Good service Great food A little to much gelatine in the salted caramel cheesecake

Coffee was good, if a little strong for me but easily remedied, I just asked for more full fat milk. Cakes were delicious and a good portion. We had carrot cake and a chocolate and cream cake. Frankly they ALL looked worth a taste! Worth noting that the cakes on the serving area were covered with cling film which makes a nice change as I will not eat in places that do not see a need for food to be covered if on the serving counter

Horrible, for a coffee shop the coffee was weaker than dish water, nope never gonna return, staff need serious training

I found this cafe by chance while looking for somewhere in town for an early morning breakfast. The staff were friendly and efficient and the food was very reasonably priced. The sausage bap was delicious and I certainly plan to return again to try one of the amazing looking cakes that they had on display.

Fantastic coffee shop with a chilled atmosphere closer to a cafe... The best "pre-prepared" food I've had ever in a coffee shop, the breakfast wrap was well filled and not a dried out husk like other places! Went for a hot chocolate and you can tell passion is put into making these drinks, a world above the chains that just don't care anymore.
