Puerto Lounge in Exeter

Me and my friends spent about six hours there and they made us feel so welcome the whole time. Between the four us we had about 20 cocktails and they were amazing. The food was absolutely delicious, they had such a good menu for our gluten allergenic friend and we all really enjoyed the food especially the tapas. We had Finley, Caitlin and Tilly serving us and we couldn’t ask for better service. They are absolutely incredible and a massive asset to the business. We 100% recommend going there as you won’t find anywhere better.

The food is extremely poor here, almost inedible, dry / burnt, staff did not want to be there either. Tables were not cleared and there was no care or conversation from a single member of staff. Female staff wearing sleeveless clothes should wear deodorant. Basic hygiene!!! What a poor example of lounges.

Really lovely service from fellow Irishwoman Janna on the bar! Gave our dog a water bowl and a treat after a nice walk on the quay, made our day. Food lovely, and will definitely be back 😍

A bit noisy, but superb variety of tapas. Delish!

This was our third visit and the puerto lounge ticks a lot of boxes because of the location and menu and it’s dog friendly - but each time we have come away amazed at how unfriendly the staff are. No one greets customers on arrival or are approachable. Eye contact seems to be avoided at all costs. Everything is down to the customer to work out and when we tried to get help (our table didn’t have a number) none of the staff would stop and engage with us. Today there were no menus and the staff member turned her back and walked off rather than answer our question. We helped ourselves from the serving counter in the end. When drinks or food are brought to the table old dirty ones aren’t taken away. No one asks if your food is ok. No one thanks you for visiting. We came away saying the staff are always so prickly! It’s a bar. It’s such a shame. Why employ staff that don’t like customers or doing a hospitality job. This isn’t just one or two staff. It’s a culture of staff seeming pissed off and doing the bare minimum!

Great evening in the sun with tapas and a glass of wine. Music was an added bonus.

Janna served us today and she was amazing. She was so attentive and helpful as we ordered from the gluten free menu due to my allergies. Couldn’t have asked for a better server she was so fantastic. Will definitely be coming back!

Half an hour + wait for a burger and chips! Need to speed up that food. Not good!

I asked for ketchup, and the staff went to look for some but couldn’t find any. Instead, they took a bottle from another customer’s table—where I’m pretty sure people were still eating—and gave it to us…… it was empty, they are obviously struggling to afford ketchup and bottles…. Ill have to bring my own next time should i want some

Given a jug of coke basically just for an extortionate price…. Supposedly a jug of Long Island ice tea!! Maybe a bit of training needed….

Stopped in here for a bit of lunch, good food and beer. Good service too. Worth a visit if you're in the area.

This a good budget option if your staying in Exeter and it's near the river. Bit difficult to get to at night, steep hill might be an issue for some. I had the fantastic 'pulled brisket chilli' with extra jalapeños. Recommended dish if you want to warm up. Also the Bristol Cream Stout goes down a treat.

A big shout out to Tyrg, who has an amazing personality. I didn’t actually eat this place but will most definitely be back as he was so kind and polite and showed me the way to the restaurant I had a booking for His level of service has def wanting me to come back

2nd visit 2nd disappointment. This time waiting 50mins for food in a Half busy restaurant with plenty of staff.. our chicken food was undercooked to the point where it was still clucking at me. Maybe the 50 mins wait was because they were chasing it around the chicken. All I know is I do not want the shiiits. Never again.

Understaffed. End up eating your food alongside the previous customers dirty plates. Wouldn’t recommend and wouldn’t visit again.

Terrible experience! Massively understaffed! Staff need training and basic understanding! We had to tell to the waitress to clear the table as we were sitting on a table with dirty cups and plates from previous customers. She seemed to be put off by that rather than apologising! She took cups eventually but this took her 3 trips to be able to that! She still left the table with sauces and old menus and she did not clean it either! I wouldn’t recommend to anyone and will surely never visit again!

We came as party of 15 for my daughter's 17th birthday party. Staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating. Food was awesome and we had a great time! Thank you so much xxx

Popped in for lunch with a friend who had never been before. Food was excellent 1 lounge eggs and 1 harissa chicken flatbread. The food arrived promptly delivered by a pleasant member of staff. Both meals were excellent and great value would definitely recommend and had a nice atmosphere for a Monday lunchtime

The food was so delicious! It was really busy today, but the service was on point. We had the chicken harissa flatbread, and buttermilk chicken. Presentation and taste was a 10/10! If I could hug the chef I would!! 😍 Really liked using the app as it saves time and is easy to pay upfront without having to go to the bar etc. We’ll be back for sure ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Had a friends birthday party, it was fairly busy but the service was great and the food was really good and hot. The back round music they play was just right so you could all converse without shouting. Going to call in when we have the dog as they are also welcome!

The portion sizes have definitely got smaller. Clearing of tables and little slap dash at times! But overall a good place to relax and soak up some Christmas cheer!!

We came here for my partners daughters birthday and the staff were great. I dropped off balloons and cake earlier in the day and they were super accommodating.

Two of us ate lunch here today. Staff were very friendly and helpful - especially as in so many other restaurants my need for gluten free and dairy free meals seem to cause problems. The Lounges always offer a selection of suitable food and l have learned to have complete faith in the food that is served to me. Happy to recommend Puerto Lounge.

You have a choice to order with an app that lets you edit the order too. You can ask for less ice in a drink or to omit certain food options from the meal. Friendly, cosy, and good space, not cramped.

Perfect afternoon, staff were friendly and approachable, especially Ruby, she was very patient with my friend who has learning difficulties, she really was a hero! Will be going again

Brilliant time in the Puerto Lounge all round. The food and atmosphere were excellent, but the service was second to none. I asked for the server's name which was Ruby, who was very calm, gentle and patient with my order. I will be returning when I am back next.

Unfortunately, we felt very unwelcome upon arrival. I understand we turned up without booking but a good restaurant will always cater to their customers. We made eye contact and made initiation with mutiple workers but was left ignored and embarrassed. Eventually we left after being made to feel like idiots and had a lovely brunch at Crave next door, (where we were seated and catered to straight away)

Had a lovely time on Saturday night! Great food and great drinks from the young lady and two gentlemen in matching attire, great service and the young man’s first day was handled exceptionally! Very welcoming attitude from them all, Pina Coladas were amazing!!

A nice location with a good atmosphere and great fast service but the food was poor. Weak coffee, undercooked egg on my partner's veggie brekkie, undercooked pizza for my three year old and my avocado smashed toast with a side of Halloumi was tiny under seasoned and had an overcooked rubber egg hidden amongst it.

I came here on the weekend and had the best experience especially with a specific worker Brooke. She was the loveliest most welcoming young lady I have never experienced service like this when attending in the past. The food was amazing as always and I haven’t been since the menu change so Brooke gave me so many recommendations that were PERFECT for my tastes. This place is clearly on the rise couldn’t recommend more 😊

I visited with my 83 year old father, his childhood best friend and the friend's wife. So the average age would have been mid-70's!! 😳 And the place suited us. There was a good atmosphere, and it was filled with many people, all of whom were much younger!! 🤣 A good and varied menu. Reasonably priced. But the highlight has to be the service. Everyone was busy, and everything worked. We requested chips, which unfortunately were missed off our order. The response from the server and the barman was excellent - customer service personified. Really impressed. Thank you for a great experience.

Why is toast so expensive at £1.65? It is only cooked on one side and isn’t even buttered! A poached egg is cheaper ???

This is my second visit for lunch. A place for lunch was good; my friend is a Coeliac, so diet is important, and my allergic reaction to certain foods is not such an issue. But here they have all the bases covered for our needs. Please ignore the atmosphere rating, as it was a quiet day and not a representative of what could or can be.

Saturday afternoon, no beer on tap, then no curry, no bang bang chicken, very disappointed, usually one of our favourite places

Nice pub restaurant by the Exeter Quayside. Decent food, good service but if you sit inside you may feel a bit claustrophobic as the massive area inside is missing windows on the side. So it's a big rectangular space. Sitting by the windows would give you a view of the lovely quayside. In summer of course you can sit in the patio and take full view of the Quay. I can see medium to big groups of students or young professionals having a great time. Having a small family myself, we don't really pick this spot if spaces are available at say the neighbouring restaurants.

Probably the cheapest meal you can find at the waterfront, but also the worst. Lots of gluten free and veggie options, but not worth it due to the quality.

Excellent gluten free menu. Delicious food , friendly , efficient staff , highly recommended a visit. Today we had GF Tapa but have also had a fabulous GF breakfast there too. Prices are reasonable and well worth it .

Inside echoes a bit. So if you are looking for somewhere quiet to talk, this isn't it. Menu could do with being a bit more extensive, but is good quality

Good service, and food comes out fast. Funky atmosphere with lots of space. Good place if you fancy a Friday night drink after work but aren't after a pub. Terrace for the summer.

✨️went here with friends with one with a baby 👶 and pushchair. Very accessible and large spaces to accommodate so highly recommend anyone with a pushchair ! We all went for the lunchtime special (from Monday to Friday), which was soup and half a panini for £6.75, really recommended 👌 that the soup was delicious. We had roasted squash, onion, and cranberry. Definitely done homemade, if it isn't then a very delicious bought soup ! Recommend coming here of a weekday lunch.

I regularly eat in lounge restaurants while I’m away on business, unfortunately the one in my home town of Exeter is by far the worst run I’ve encountered. We were unable to book online and when we rang we were told we wouldn’t need to, however, on arrival it was made clear by the guy that welcomed us that we were at best an inconvenience for having not booked! We were then told that the wait for food was over an hour (this happens every time in this restaurant, I’ve never encountered it anywhere else). The bloke running the bar was evidently stressed and did everything he could to put us off ordering food. Compared to the experiences I’ve had in Truro, Plymouth and Lichfield, which are excellent, this place is a disaster.

Really quick service and great food. Good menu with options for vegetarians. Dog friendly. Outdoor seating with lovely views of the river. Would recommend!

Such a lovely place and I’d definitely recommend it here, so welcoming and the location is incredible. If you love cherry based cocktails you HAVE to try the cherry Bakewell. It’s genuinely the best drink I’ve had in a while! In the shop across the road they sell bird seed for the geese and ducks on the quayside, perfect for kids!! The food is ok, kind of flavourless depending on what you order. The brunch they do is incredible but the lunch/dinner options are fine. Lots of different meals and things but just lacking in flavour. A meal was requested to have no mushrooms but we were told to just pick them out because it’s all pre made so if you’re picky then maybe not one for you. However, there was a severe nut allergy in our party and they cater for this very well!! All round a lovely atmosphere with lots of things for kids and a very good drinks selection, just a little boring with the evening meals.

Good place for decent food and cocktails. Staff were friendly and food came out pretty promptly.

We came for dinner with our Labrador, who was welcomed 😀 The tapas however was served lukewarm warm at best. Did not complain as we were starving. Sadly was infested by seagulls, which is not a fault of the restaurant.

Seven of us enjoyed a tasty relaxed meal. Staff attentive, food tasty and fresh.

My husband and I had a delicious brunch here. Staff were friendly and service was excellent. I especially want to commend the restaurant in stating clearly on their website that they are wheelchair accessible. As a wheelchair user, this saved me a lot of time and I really appreciate it. We loved our food- my lounge eggs with spinach & mushrooms were especially delicious.

Atmosphere as always good, however service and food was shocking. Out of the 7 of us that went, every single meal was cold yet there was a wait on food. No one came to see how things were, half of the table have been ill since eating it. Almost felt pointless in sending anything back since no one came to us. It’s a Sunday in the summer holidays I get it’s busy, it’s usually great food and good service and after this experience I will be thinking twice about coming here or another part of the chain.

Four of us, plus dog, in for dinner yesterday. All good, we ordered on the app and drinks then food appeared promptly. 4 burgers, 1 salad, everyone happy. Have been before and it seems like a safe, reliable choice.

Food tasted nice but was served cold which isn't great. Also seemed a bit over priced to me. Service was very slow. They allow dogs so that's a bonus to be able to bring our dog with us.

Online app would not work so ordered at bar. Paid for drinks and food and took drinks with me. However food order was not confirmed so after 30 I asked at bar and fault was acknowledged and dealt with quickly and efficiently. Offered drinks in compensation. Food was good and service, apart from initial issue was good.

Food order want processed properly at Bar so no food for 30 minutes. Went to check and the issue was resolved quickly with apologies and drinks as compensation. Did was good when it arrived and problem was dealt with well.

I love the lounges, good food good service, plenty of vegan dishes for those in the group that eat a plant based diet so they feel welcomed. Brilliant concept by the person who came up with the idea. This was my first visit to The Puerto lounge and it fulfilled all my expectations. It's like having the certainty of a big chain with the feel of an independent. Well done everyone involved.

Overpriced, awful service and mediocre drinks

Nice location, and good vibe. The place is very much a Spoons. Food was at best average, and arrived warm. It is a fairly cheap place to eat around there, so you get what you pay for. Nice views if sat on terrace. Sorry wouldn't return.

I had an over-priced, blandly tasting microwaved Nasi Goreng which arrived on a plate five minutes after I ordered. It made made feel ill for a few hours afterwards.

AVOID like the plague - never been so sick in my life after eating the chicken kiev burger. Also as previously mentioned by others glass was so dirty, I thought it was frosted!

I have spent the last 24 hrs caring for my daughter who has been violently sick after eating a chicken burger at this establishment, she will not return ever again . That was the only thing that could have caused her illness .

Alright place to grab some food if you're on the quay. Not the greatest quality or quantity but decent for the price. Drinks are good, staff are friendly.

Great location overseeing the river and the bridge. Went with my wife, ordered two glasses of rose and some tapas. The glasses were visibly dirty, sticky on the outside, with lip marks on them. Went to ask for new, clean glasses, the waiter came back with only slightly cleaner ones. Is it that hard to properly clean the glasses before pouring wine on them? We are not returning.

Find ourselves having breakfast alongside the river, Good selection on the menu. Options to order at bar or from the table which we did both with fast efficient service. Staff were pleasant and polite. Sat on the back deck in beautiful sunshine, perfect.

Unfortunately this was my first and last time visiting. The food was all cold. Poached eggs beans and toast and a fry up. Lovely place to stop for a drink but food wasn't up to scratch.

Nice atmosphere, not too busy. The only staff member who stood out was Rachel who acknowledged us in a friendly way, checked we were happy with our meals once and acknowledged us again on the way out. Other staff seemed busy with each other and we felt like an inconvenience. I'm not sure staff are trained in customer service anymore, it feels like they are left to it. One member of staff lighting candles reached across us to place a stained plate on our table, then returned to reach across us to place a candle on it. Bizarre!

Delicious food with staff who catered to special requests. Easy ordering through the QR code on table and food and drinks came quickly. Variety of options on breakfast menu which makes it a ‘safe’ option for brunch as there’s something for everyone. Love that the breakfast menu is served all day so no need to worry about timings. 20 min walk from city centre, but definitely worth it and a great choice if you’re in the area and don’t know where to go!

I have been to Puerto Lounge a few times for drinks, and it has always been lovely. Last week, we decided to try their breakfast, and it was absolutely delicious! The staff is very friendly, and they are dog-friendly too. I really recommend it.
