The Glasshouse Cafe in Amber Valley

Great, well cooked breakfast that arrived promptly. Good service as usual. It was busy as usual but lots of seating and all in an amazing garden centre. Well recommended.

Popped in for breakfast over the bank holiday with a friend who visits regularly. Met by a lovely, friendly lady who took our order and chatted to us. Nothing was too much trouble. We were served quickly and the food and drinks were delicious. Would recommend a visit, we had a lovely time, then bought plants. My favourite kind of day. Thank you team :-)

I felt the need to write a review, given the previous ones. I am local to the area and visit the Glasshouse Cafe at least a couple of times a month, if not more. I have been early, late and in the middle, at quiet times and at busy times. The food and service have always been lovely, yes when it’s busier things take longer but you can literally see the staff working their socks off to get customers their orders. If waiting a while during busy periods isn’t your thing, stay at home as it happens everywhere! There is a great selection of food, from meals to snacks and coffees and cakes (which are absolutely fabulous!) and the setting is beautiful. I have always found staff to be helpful and attentive. I really would recommend the cafe to people and have taken many friends who have agreed it’s a gem of a place 🙂

What has happened to this once lovely cafe? Long wait for a couple of drinks, only to be presented with a so called teacup the size of an egg cup. Bizarre. Everyone was complaining, orders being brought out in dribs and drabs, uncleared tables being ignored, and staff serving food whilst chewing on biscuits! You need to up your game. If it wasn't for the brilliant plants you would have no customers.

We have been going to the Glasshouse cafe for two or three years and have found it reasonably acceptable but in the past couple of weeks things have gone rapidly downhill. The other day they decided that, because of the queue, they were only going to serve breakfasts and nothing else. To top it all the breakfast was only available in a cob which was absolutely ghastly and messy; surely it would have been simpler to place the items on a plate with a cob if required On our latest visit today I decided to have Beef Lasagne only to be told that it was not available. The member of staff who told us said it has never been available for a while and it may as well not be on the menu list. I eventually settled for a turkey cob with stuffing and cranberry sauce which was absolutely ghastly. My wife had a small breakfast which was nearly cold. Only one member of staff showed any professionalism and the younger members seemed to be totally uninterested and working at snail’s pace: they seemed to be in a permanent dream and left most of the work to the older, longer serving member of staff. Clearing tables did not seem to be important. As well as all that the roof was leaking making some tables uninhabitable . From now on we shall only be visiting to buy plants.

Don’t believe everything you read- We visited this lovely cafe during half term and could not fault it! Really lovely setting, served by friendly staff and a fabulous coffee. Also dog friendly, which is such a bonus. Very relaxed atmosphere with music playing in the background. We ordered a scone with jam and cream and was very reasonably priced and a brownie. Excellent choice of cakes and really large slices. Reading previous reviews who seem to be all moaning about the wait time for food - chill out! Take time to sit and relax, the food is made to order - if you want fast food then go to a takeaway! People are so quick to complain and write bad reviews - give the girls a break and stop moaning! I love this cafe and will be telling everyone I know 😊

We visit this cafe regularly and have only ever had good food and service. Everything is freshly prepared and the food is great. The cakes are amazing. The staff are lovely and we always thoroughly enjoy our visits here. Lovely little cafe, great to sit outdoors in the summer, and a fab garden centre to visit at the same time, what more could you ask for.

Food was not good at all. Poached egg on toast - cheap thin bread that was soggy with a sad looking small poached egg on each slice I would expect this in a cheap greasy spoon as that was the standard of all three of our meals. Very underwhelming Wont return for food

Queuing for ten minutes only to be told they haven't got time to make a tea and milkshake. Terrible costomer service

They were obviously short staffed but that is no excuse for the service we received today. We were told it would be 30mins wait for 3 cups of tea and 3 pieces of cake it was nearly 50 mins. No apology just staff saying loudly 'can't wait to go home'. Eventually the cake came in cardboard take away boxes when I asked for plates I was told they were all in the dishwasher. Tea came in paper cups, as did the milk, not a teapot .At no time did anyone apologise. Staff seemed to find the customers a nuisance. Garden centre very good but will not be going to the cafe again!

This will be the last time I use this cafe for theses reasons. Waited 35 minutes for just two coffees and only one tea. The two coffees were only half full, very unapproachable staff. Extremely dismissive and rude, having no time for their customers when asking for our long awaited coffees to be rectified due to poor presentation. Very slack and poorly ran!!!

New best value cafe. Great choice of cakes and breakfasts. Friendly staff and good quality produce. Only thing they could improve, is to do something about the weekend staff (very young and inexperienced and seem to need an awful lot of direction rather than faffing and wasting time)

There is a board on the counter saying that there might be a 30 minute delay on drinks/food but on this visit it was 40 minutes for just a drink and cake, even then two drinks came out with a different cake to the one that I had ordered, its all gone pear shaped. Also when staff eventually bring drinks/food out they are oblivious to tables that have been vacated, just clear them for other customers rather than just walking straight past them, its not rocket science.

Just had a very upsetting experience at this cafe. It appears that the system for ordering falls down when more than 2 or 3 tables are filled !!. There seems to be little or no organisation or management. In spite of there being 3 front of house staff on, we were left waiting for 10 mins, completely ignored, in a queue to place an order. When I asked a young waitress when anyone was going to take our order, I got shouted at by this girl, who clearly has no idea of what customer service is all about. She was rude, loud and almost abusive to me. It was totally unacceptable. Although in the past a regular user of this cafe, this will be my last time, and I shall certainly be telling friends of my experience.

Stood in a queue for over 20 minutes only to be told when i get to the front that we’ll be waiting another half an hour just for coffee and cake. Really poorly organised. left without anything. waste of time. Really need to sort their service and staff out.

Well laid out cafe situated inside of the Garden Centre with a choice of cakes, light lunches and hot/cold drinks. Well run service from the staff, outside seating for when it gets a tad warmer and plenty of parking available.
