The food was very good, but could have done with a bit more meat.

Had an amazing dinner at GingerFox! The food was exceptionally delicious, and we were lucky to get a table as a walk-in. Fantastic experience all around -highly recommended!

This place is an absolute delight, everything you want from a country pub. The staff are so lovely and welcoming, a real credit to the place. Dogs are welcome, which is also great. And the food is outstanding. We’ve now been a few times and there is some really great cooking on show. Really excellent cooking of classics but with an occasional twist, especially with the desserts that should not be missed. This place is outstanding in every respect.

A chance visit with a friend, no booking but the staff were able to fit us in. Great service by polite and attentive staff, fantastic food served in a lovely relaxed atmosphere. I would go again.

Loved this place. Really nice welcome on arrival. Good stop off before heading into Brighton and to meet with friends. It does shut reasonably early so check and book in advance. We went for 5:30pm sitting and were not disappointed

Had the lamb pie, this has gone to no1 in my pie chart, it was excellent. The others in my party said the bacon chop they had was equally as good too.

Popped in on the off-chance of Sunday dinner, they were busy, but still accommodated my wife and I. The service was very good, the food was excellent. Thank you for a very pleasant experience, will certainly be revisiting again.

Had valentines 💝 lunch with my wife for the first time here, wow amazing staff, amazing food, great friendly atmosphere, table service from a young man was exceptionally good, will be dinning here again and recommend to all. Bubs.

Been here a good few times over the years and it has always been fantastic. Took some friends for Sunday lunch and all agreed it was one of the nicest lunches we’ve ever had The food is well presented and the flavours are sublime, all topped off with friendly efficient service

My wife took me here for my birthday. The fried Jalapeños nibbles were awesome and all the dishes were pretty fantastic. Only a couple of issues, they actually forgot my starter. Mains came out and then realised hadn’t served it. I would say the steak portion is small too, admittedly I was full afterwards. But you eat with your eyes and when came to it it’s like ‘oh is that it’ for £32. I had food envy of my wife’s vegetarian platter. But was yummy.

Truly high quality food in a lovely location a quick whizz down the A23/M23. We will be back.

The Ginger Fox is always a favourite for us, but we had a particularly lovely dinner there this evening! The food was excellent, but the service was the highlight! All the staff were lovely with our toddler, but our waitress was particularly great - it made for a lovely meal out.

Service was good from the young lady there. Others not so with wrong condiments brought out. Food and menu not as good as our last visit last year. Scallops were tasty if very small. Lamb loin was very small. Might expect that portion in Michelin star restaurant but no a pub for the price. Was told the rib eye steak was only 150g so gave that a miss. Menu had 2 lamb main course. Could be more balanced with fish perhaps. So 2 mains, 1 starter, 1 jalapeño nibble and bottle wine that retails at £11 was £118. A new menu might bring us back. Maybe.

We also noticed the horrible smell of raw sewage permeating the dining area. It was terribly off-putting and the management's response that it happens in cold weather is hardly adequate. This is England and it is quite often cold.

Apart from the horrible smell of the external septic tank that pervades the rear section of the restaurant for the entire time that you are there this is a lovely gastro pub and one of the best in the area. It’s not cheap (which some reviewers seem to expect regardless of the quality of the experience). Consistently excellent food and varied menu. The staff are super friendly and professional. My advice is to not to sit in the rear section, the smell will make you gag. They really need to fix it instead of hoping that nobody will notice and making excuses.

The Ginger Fox is really impressive. Ticks all the boxes. Food is delicious and seasonal, service is excellent, it’s in a beautiful location on The South Downs by Devils Dyke with amazing views and the atmosphere is lovely.

Food was nice, but there wasn't much of it. Prices are on the high side and the lady serving our table couldn't be more surly if she tried. Shame as it is a nice pub in a great location

Firstly, before I get to my review, I am utterly baffled by some of the negative reviews about The Ginger Fox. If you’ve come to read the negative reviews before trying out this place, ignore them. Here’s why. As soon as my wife and I walked into The Ginger Fox we were greeted by wonderful smiles and it felt like we’d stepped into a friend’s house instead of a pub. We sat at a lovely table and were given time to choose what we wanted. We loved the fact the menu wasn’t exhausting to read and the options available all looked lovely. We chose the spiced carrot soup, coated and fried jalapeños (with Brighton blue cheese sauce) for starter and the Redlands Farm beef burger with duck fat chips. All I can say is wow! The flavours were incredible and all food was nice and hot. In a nutshell, the service, food and atmosphere were all exceptional. This is not a cheap pub that serves a bit of uncared-for food, this is a lovely place to come, the food is extremely fresh and tasty, and the owners certainly care about their customers very much. We will be coming back, for sure.

visited with my son and his wife. Lovely ambience, pleasant staff. My son and wife had pheasant which they really enjoyed. I had a rib eye which was a lot of gristle and fat and was disappointing. Disappointed no one asked me what was wrong with my steak and didn't want to spoil the evening by complaining. My soup starter was hot large and tasty. If I am invited again I will try the filet.

Lovely typical English pub in the countryside but easy access from the A23 and Brighton. Food choice and quality tops. Service was very good with a lot of care taken in making sure everything was OK with the meals. 6 happy customers.

Came here for a roast with a friend and naively ordered the nut roast assuming it would be vegan/dairy free. When I tried it, it seemed to taste odd and after more felt like it tasted cheesy but thought I was going mad. I asked the staff member who had taken our order if there was cheese in it, as it didn't specify on the menu and she said it shouldn't do but checked. She came back to say it does and instantly apologising because it doesn't state on the menu either. I didn't ask for a refund because I ate the rest of my meal and did eat half before realising what it was, but seriously.. who puts cheese in a nut roast? And why is it not mentioned on the menu?? I'm lactose intolerant so I had stomach upset for the next 2 days. They offered to have our drinks on the house which was accepted but then receiving the bill it was only the one drink and my gosh, I was also shocked by how expensive a guiness 0 is. Really dissapointing experience for me. My friends roast was fine though so ehhh. Just really need to put down those things on a menu. Would have given a worse rating but the person looking after us was nice I guess

Great place for drinks and food.

Party of 4, we all loved our meals, I had the special which was venison sausages with green beans and Mash, which was delicious. My friend is celiac and had what they said “best gluten free burger I’ve ever had” highly recommend

Simply exceptional. Fresh, tasty and beautifully presented plates. Lobster linguine starter was incredible, my mouth watered between mouthfuls. All of this in a relaxed, not too formal, setting. Oh and the house red is excellent too.

As good a Sunday roast as you can get outside your own kitchen. The staff are lovely and easygoing, the food is delicious and has great portions. The wine list is delightful with lots of local wines. The atmosphere is perfect for an English county pub. It's a win!

The staff are caring and really nice helpful the food is out of this world. We had our wedding party meal here 10 years ago and boy it was good then. It is now stepped up a level and is serving Michelin star quality food. My wife and I left feeling like kings and Queens. Thanks people for making today special

Attended for wedding reception- absolutely fantastic. Staff were lovely, Esme went above and beyond to make sure we were all happy with everything and made it special. Food was amazing, definitely recommend and will go back for a roast one day 😋

They were such friendly and attentive staff. We had crispy jalapeño and scallops for starters and steaks for main. Enjoyed the wine, scotch whiskey options they had. Overall everything was amazing!

So after going to the Ginger man we wanted to try here and it certainly does not disappoint at all. The setting and atmosphere is amazing and the food most certainly lives up to the hype. The staff were amazing and friendly and attentive so value for money and setting it’s a must try. You most certainly won’t be disappointed.

We have been scouring Sussex for the perfect Sunday roast, but everywhere has failed on their roast potatoes, until now (crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle - the perfect roastie). Will definitely be coming here again.

Loved the cute thatched roof, old timely pub vibes. The food was delicious. Almost former style roast, by which I mean very nicely curated and tasted unbelievable. We had the beef and pork and would recommend. There’s easy parking and we didn’t find it too busy (arrived without a reservation). The only photo I have is my sausage dog sitting in a strange way outside, so enjoy!

Beautiful restaurant, lovely friendly staff. Roast was top notch. Thinnest slice of lamb I've ever had but still tasty. The cheesy celeriac was amazing.

I came here with my wife on a gorgeous sunny evening and sat outside with our dogs. I ordered the hake and a carafe of wine, when it arrived was completely shocked. It was a minuscule tail end piece that was no more than 6cm long and 1 cm thick. When I mentioned this to the very kind server she was extremely apologetic and said that she would replace it. By this point my wife was mid way through hers so declined as it would take another 15 mins by which time…. Our server was very embarrassed and said that she would have complained also, especially at this price. Given the heritage of the Ginger group, this was way below par and whoever sent that from the pass should have known better. There was also no discount offered off our bill. Not quite the service I was expecting. Shocking.

Just looking for somewhere to get a drink near the A23. Very much a dining pub but we were served just a drink without any fuss. Nice surroundings, and drinks prices quite reasonable for the area. Food menu looked good, we may come back again and try that.

This place is really just if you are eating. Called in for a pint and the only place to sit was in 2 deck chairs/small plastic ‘table’ in the garden…..where everyone else was eating on the picnic tables. Quite tight car park.

Pub food at its best. Traditional English styles with perfectly cooked meats. The lamb options were fantastic. Highly recommend the lamb pie and beef scotch egg. Service was perfect.

A little disappointing Sunday lunch all in all. Service was lovely but the food was a little on the average side, particularly for the price - which was a shame as we were there for a birthday meal!

Oh, what a fantastic pub. The Ginger Fox has everything going for it. Beautiful garden, heavenly food - the roasts are a great portion and some of the best in the UK - and friendly, prompt service. This gastropub sits in a lovely location in the middle of the countryside, has beautiful decor inside and has ample car parking. What more could anyone want? One of the best pubs in the UK.

First time visit. Came for a roast for 2, good service, very tasty food and plentiful, nice atmosphere. 12% service charge is added on the bill but we were happy to pay this as the service was attentive. We look forward to coming back :)

We have been to The Ginger Fox several times and we have always enjoyed it. The food is wonderful as is the service and atmosphere. They also cater for food intolerances and there are vegetarian options available on the dishes of the day board and main menu. It is also situated in a beautiful part of Sussex near the South Downs and has a lovely garden which is great for dining outdoors in the warmer months.

Not the best on food but service was good. Was Boxing day so could explain how quiet. Staff efficient and other patrons friendly. Food so so and pricey we thought!

Didn't eat today but will be back, menu looked lovely. Friendly staff & service spot on 👍

The Ginger Fox is a hidden countryside gem - superb cuisine with a family friendly ambience.

Fantastic venue for lunch. I turned up early for a lunch appointment due to no traffic on M25. About 90 mins early. The restaurant was not even open yet, they found me a spot where I could work, brought me coffee and drinks until my colleagues arrived. Once they arrived and was ready to eat, the food was excellent. We all had a variety of starters and mains and not one thing to question, it was sublime. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone Andrew, would really like to take my wife there. Distance may be a challenge for lunch though. Would definitely recommend.

Outstanding food and consistently good. Book early. Atmosphere is genial although the restaurant can be a little drafty. Take a blanket and enjoy snuggling up instead.

What a shame such a lovely venue and the food did look good. We arrived without a booking on a Saturday and understand its a busy venue but all the staff were rude when we asked if we could just sit down for a quick drink. "You can't sit outside, defiantly not if you're just having a drink." There were free tables the whole time we were there but got sat inside reluctantly. We ordered a snack bowl of deep fried jalapenos which were nice and had one drink. We then left and the bill came with 12.5% service charge on it. We asked if it could be taken off and were met with "WHY? you had food!" it got taken off in the end but it felt like becase we weren't booked and we didn't sit down for a full meal we weren't worth bothering with. Such a shame customer service lets a wonderful venue down. Everyone was rude.

I was excited to experience the ginger fox after a recommendation. When questioned inside or outside eating preference we asked for indoors, our waitress escorted us to an isolated area where we sat on our own right next to the toilet. My daughter asked for a coke, the waitress brought the wrong drink, the food arrived promptly and we were unable to fault the main course however the waitress seemed disconnected and rarely checked in with us at any given time. The recommended pudding left a burnt after taste on our palets and our glasses were removed by the waitress without asking if we would require any more drinks. When asked for the bill again we were left for some considerable amount of time and therefore approached another member of staff. Once leaving we approached the main exit and quickly had to step asside for the waitress whom barged past us without saying thank you. We will definitely NOT be returning

Went on the 26th with the dog to celebrate Fiona and Fergus's birthday. Food was up to it's normal brilliant standard and service was slick and friendly as always. Thoroughly recommend

We're fast becoming regulars at The Ginger Fox, and for good reason. Refined pub food, wonderful staff and they make a decent cocktail.

Wasn’t looking for this place but stumbled across it on the way home, and I’m glad I did! The beer garden is lovely, my kids enjoyed playing in the play area, the Vegan Burger was the best one I’ve ever had and my wife thoroughly enjoyed her spicy margarita and the beetroot gnocchi! It wasn’t the cheapest pub I’ve come across but the food alone was worth it… you get what you pay for as they say! I’m summary, I’ve saved it to my favourites and I’ll be coming back for sure 👌🏾 PS: The service was 10/10 - very attentive and smiled throughout 😊🙌🏽

Chose the GF to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary. Great choice. Delicious food from an interesting menu. Service was quick and charming. Laura looked after us and gave the evening a special touch at the end of the meal to make it a memorable date night. Highly recommended.

I had been once before many years ago and sat in the garden. I remember that the food was lovely and I enjoyed the garden space. Or recent visit was not very pleasant, although staff were friendly, I didn't feel we were made to feel welcome. It strikes me as a little snobbish. The vast majority of people seemed to have travelled there by luxury vehicle. Despite the place being almost completely empty, we were seated right at the back of the restaurant about 50cm from the maitre d' cupboard and tight next to another couple. The other couple spoke with low voices but I could still understand every word they said which didn't make me want to have a conversation with my partner. Or waitress was forever coming to the maitre d' cupboard getting supplies, folding napkins etc She asked if we wanted dessert and as we said no were presented with the bill within seconds. Lastly, my partner want asked how he would like his burger and it was not very nice. The meat was overcooked, the presentation want great as it was served in a huge white plate with a tiny bowl of chips and no side salad, not even a leave. Will not visit again.

Tucked away country pub with a good sized beer garden. It was raining when we went so the dining room was quite full but the staff managed to accommodate our table for two. It has the vibe of a smart restaurant but maintains the character of the pub. Definitely more of a place to go for a meal rather than a cosy drink. Nice atmosphere overall. Excellent Bloody Mary, nice pint of Long Man ale and a fantastic lamb Sunday roast. Decent sized portions! Highly recommend

Have had many people recommend The Ginger Fox - and we found out why last night. Fantastic food that the whole team clearly love. Great atmosphere and wonderful front of house staff.
