This is a mixed bag of a review. Good food and value for money. Service is very friendly but a bit too casual - leaning against the wall when taking our order, calling us 'you guys' - quibbles I know but a little irritating. I know that it is now increasingly the norm for dogs to be taken everywhere but they should not be allowed in restaurants. The one at a table near ours was constantly being touched, petted and fussed over by the owner ( not by the staff I must say) and at one point jumped up at the table - at best a distraction, at worse a health hazard. The room we dined in would benefit from some art work - and bare brick doesn't do much for the acoustic. But - the food was simple but good, well seasoned and well presented. The fondant celeriac with cherries was particularly good and the chicken was tender and juicy. It was encouraging to see the restaurant so busy especially during what is a difficult time for the hospitality industry. So. definitely worth a visit.

We enjoyed our experience here. We were given a friendly welcome and we were asked if we wanted to go straight to our table, but as we’d arrived early, we opted for a pre-dinner drink in the bar. The issue here was that there were only two tables, with two armchairs per table and stools. One table was occupied by a member of staff using a laptop. It would have been much more comfortable if we all had been able to relax in armchairs. I’d requested a quiet table and we were seated in an area with few tables away from the restaurant proper. The issue here, was acoustics, the brick walls creating a sound bounce, so the area wasn’t particularly quiet. Dining seats are hard. We were served by a very pleasant young man who was attentive and friendly, but clearly he’d been told to ask guests if everything was satisfactory- quite right of course, just not four or five times! However, the most important factor must be food and food here was very good. The menu was very interesting, certainly not run of the mill and had some most intriguing contents. Two of us opted for the celeriac fondant with pickled cherries and this dish was very good indeed, the cherries complementing the celeriac perfectly. Two of us chose the vegetable risotto as our mains and again the dish was very good, certainly flavoursome, but we felt the texture should have been more creamy and seasoning needed slight adjustment. Having said that, the vegetables were fresh, seasonal, al dente and overall the dish was extremely nice. Bread, served at the beginning of our dinner was disappointing and had a “supermarket” quality. We decided that dessert was a step too far as we were quite replete and had enjoyed a satisfying dinner. We would hope that the menu changes seasonably which would certainly ensure that we return. The wine list here is comprehensive and most listings are very reasonably priced with one or two items over-priced, but there is enough here to please most people. The Ginger Fox is a very good place to lunch/dine and it won’t break your bank.

We had drinks in the beautiful garden for a large group of friends, followed by lunch in the restaurant. The whole team pulled out the stops to make this 60th celebration special, but super Shan and the lovely Esme deserve particular mention. As do the chefs! Every course was delicious. Loved the cute thatched roof, old timely pub vibes. The food was delicious. Almost former style roast, by which I mean very nicely curated and tasted unbelievable. We had the beef and pork and would recommend. There’s easy parking and we didn’t find it too busy (arrived without a reservation). I came here with my wife on a gorgeous sunny evening and sat outside with our dogs. I ordered the hake and a carafe of wine, when it arrived was completely shocked. It was a minuscule tail end piece that was no more than 6cm long and 1 cm thick. When I mentioned this to the very kind server she was extremely apologetic and said that she would replace it. By this point my wife was mid way through hers so declined as it would take another 15 mins by which time…. Our server was very embarrassed and said that she would have complained also, especially at this price. Given the heritage of the Ginger group, this was way below par and whoever sent that from the pass should have known better. There was also no discount offered off our bill. Not quite the service I was expecting. Shocking.

What a shame such a lovely venue and the food did look good. We arrived without a booking on a Saturday and understand its a busy venue but all the staff were rude when we asked if we could just sit down for a quick drink. "You can't sit outside, defiantly not if you're just having a drink." There were free tables the whole time we were there but got sat inside reluctantly. We ordered a snack bowl of deep fried jalapenos which were nice and had one drink. We then left and the bill came with 12.5% service charge on it. We asked if it could be taken off and were met with "WHY? you had food!" it got taken off in the end but it felt like becase we weren't booked and we didn't sit down for a full meal we weren't worth bothering with. Such a shame customer service lets a wonderful venue down. Everyone was rude.

I was excited to experience the ginger fox after a recommendation. When questioned inside or outside eating preference we asked for indoors, our waitress escorted us to an isolated area where we sat on our own right next to the toilet. My daughter asked for a coke, the waitress brought the wrong drink, the food arrived promptly and we were unable to fault the main course however the waitress seemed disconnected and rarely checked in with us at any given time. The recommended pudding left a burnt after taste on our palets and our glasses were removed by the waitress without asking if we would require any more drinks. When asked for the bill again we were left for some considerable amount of time and therefore approached another member of staff. Once leaving we approached the main exit and quickly had to step asside for the waitress whom barged past us without saying thank you. We will definitely NOT be returning

I had been once before many years ago and sat in the garden. I remember that the food was lovely and I enjoyed the garden space. Or recent visit was not very pleasant, although staff were friendly, I didn't feel we were made to feel welcome. It strikes me as a little snobbish. The vast majority of people seemed to have travelled there by luxury vehicle. Despite the place being almost completely empty, we were seated right at the back of the restaurant about 50cm from the maitre d' cupboard and tight next to another couple. The other couple spoke with low voices but I could still understand every word they said which didn't make me want to have a conversation with my partner. Or waitress was forever coming to the maitre d' cupboard getting supplies, folding napkins etc She asked if we wanted dessert and as we said no were presented with the bill within seconds. Lastly, my partner want asked how he would like his burger and it was not very nice. The meat was overcooked, the presentation want great as it was served in a huge white plate with a tiny bowl of chips and no side salad, not even a leave. Will not visit again.

Friendly, welcoming staff and a lovely Christmassy atmosphere. Busy but not noisy so we could at least chat without shouting and we didn’t feel crammed in unlike some other restaurants. The food was very tasty and beautifully presented. Our only grumble was that the rump steak was absolutely tiny, like the size of a small fillet steak but slightly chewy, sat on a blob of puree and two kale leaves with about 10 chips on the side. Not great value for nearly £25. I would return but probably only for a special occasion as it’s not cheap and the portions are a bit on the small side. However, it’s a lovely place if you’re looking for something different.

I've been to the Ginger Fox many times over the years, and have sent literally over 50 people to eat there from my B&B in recommendation too. The food is wonderful, the wine list was once great (sadly not quite as inspiring anymore - no more interesting wines by the glass and not as much range by half as they used to) but it's the food portions have been getting smaller and smaller to the point that it's now ridiculous. One 3 inch diameter circular rump steak with a portion consisting of 10 chips for £27. To put it into perspective, my 8 year old son (with a normal appetite) has to have an adult size portion of food and order extra chips to fill him up! The meals come on large plates which highlights the small size of them even more. This lack of food would be helped (although not the cost of it) if there were side dishes of vegetables that you could order. Apparently it is possible for them to provide side dishes, but there aren't any on the menu, which is a very basic omission for this level of restaurant. Sadly I'm going to have to recommend The Fig Tree in Hassocks (where the ex head-chef of The Ginger Fox now resides) instead from now on.

Just enjoyed my third visit to The Ginger Fox!! It’s a great pub to visit any time of the year - the restaurant area is cosy in the colder months and there is a wonderful sunny garden to enjoy in the Summer. The service here is warm and friendly and the food is exceptional for what is essentially ‘pub grub’ - modern, tasty, and made using seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients. I’ve enjoyed every dish I’ve eaten here. Hoping to come back again soon!! P.s. If you’re having a beer, the crispy jalapeños with blue cheese dip are a must!!

Overall, the service and food was good but I’ve marked them down a star due to drinks and sides being unjustifiably expensive (£4.50 for one slice of bread each and £21 for a carafe of the cheapest white wine), and a real lack of menu items suitable for those who don’t eat red meat (there were about 5 mains with beef/lamb but one fish and one vegetarian). This meant I was really struggling with what to order and was rather put off after being charged for two bread portions.

All gorgeous and flawless as usually. Only sad the wine flight wasn't available.

The food was lovely however I do feel it was very over priced for the quality we received. We went to the ginger fox a few years ago and the food was so much nicer and better value for money. Tom the waiter was totally amazing in every single way. He couldn’t have done more for us and is very good at his job. Thanks Tom.

Lovely little pub conveniently located close to walking routes within the South Downs. Excellent service, cozy atmosphere and good food, although the delicious roasts were let down slightly by the potatoes which were neither crispy nor fluffy.

Went on a very cold December night. Warm welcome, with a lovely fire going. Staff were very friendly and efficient. Despite lots going on, never felt neglected. Food was exceptional, had scallops for starter, steak for main and cheesecake for pudding. All cooked perfectly. Good selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Not the cheapest, but good value for the quality. Highly recommend.

Very disappointing experience. Food over priced for what it is, and the smell coming from the toilets was extremely off putting. Waiting staff very attentive but overall not worth the money.

Food is nice pub is nice but inside is lacking in character. No curtains, pictures looks like they have just moved in. Still worth a visit.

Service is quick, order from the QR code at your table. This makes the whole ordering food etc easy. The restaurant has a good atmosphere as well.

I called into the Corner Cafe for a quick coffee recently and found the staff present & friendly. The coffee was nice and the place was clean, tidy & inviting. Maybe I'll try a breakfast next time I'm in Hassocks.
