Incredible fish & chips! The size and quality of the cod bites were great. The chips not greasy. I wish we had a fish and chip shop of this quality in Havant!! Highly recommended.

Mediocre food, but it's convenient and close. Chips are a bit greasy, but still good. It's a bit pricey but for the convenience and quality it's OK.

Last Saturday our group held a Friendship Day at the Adastra Hall in Hassocks, and we pe-booked lunch for 63 ladies. The service at the collection time was fantastic, and the food was delicious, we will certainly use the services again in the future.

Excellent fresh fried fish and great chips price is average for the area. October 2023 update just had a superb Savaloy and chips takeaway for two for £12 20p. Loads of lovely chips and a giant Savaloy. Great service and quick. Was 4 star now 5 !

Hi, I feel I need to take time to write this as the standard was below the level demanded by the rate paid. First: ordered a large (£10) Cod fish which was small or stretching to a medium in any other shop I have ever been. Definitely NOT large or worth £10. Second: the chips oil was extremely overused and this resulted in fat-saturated chips. For those without an understanding of grastonomy standards, yellow-dark chips means overused oil. Chips must be as pale as possible which will denote oil used less times. Overused oil gives a rancid taste to chips, makes them very saturated in oil, and a large portion of the batch was discarded for this reason. See picture. Not going there again. A real shame because I have been there before and the output was much better then.

Lovely dinner from here on Friday evening, did a telephone pre order. Food ready when I got there. Staff very friendly.

Excellent fish and chips what more can you say. Good value given the current inflation rate. Went on a Saturday night had to wait 5 minutes while it was cooked but that's better than a soggy fish that has been lying around for a while. As well as fish and pies there's burgers, sausages and the like even haloumi! Best fish and chips I've had in a long time. The only minor issue was the mushy peas. Down South you don't seem to know how to cook them. They need to be thick and have sugar in them.

20 minutes for sausage and chips? Minimum card spend £10; this is 2023. I won’t be returning anytime soon

At least six closer chip shops but Keymer is the best..the fish is beautifully cooked and a generous porshon.The owners are friendly and welcoming.

We go to this Fish and Chip shop every time we visit our son. Always consistently really good quality food.

Always spotlessly clean. Food is always delicious and they pride themselves on what they serve. Service is excellent too. Recommend the plaice!

I moved to hassocks a year ago and have eaten here quite a few times now. It’s consistently good quality for both fish and chips and the staff and friendly. Very happy and feel lucky to have it as my local chipper!!! Keep it up!!!

My husband went there this evening to order 1x large cod, a medium cod and 1x large chips. We were hungry and excited about using this place for the first time as we live locally. A large cod we normally cut in half and share (which is normally enough for the two of us) elsewhere. We had NO fish as pictures show. I called the shop immediately after this as we were shocked and thought this must have been a mistake. They were unhelpful. What poor value at £9 for a battered (no) cod, bill totalling £20. The medium cod ended up being rationed between the three of us! Three adults sharing less that a child’s portion of fish…. We feel totally cheated by their meanness. NO fish inside!!! First takeaway in weeks not having to cook which is a real treat, instead presented with absolute disappointment and anger!

Double or triple cooked? The crispiest chips I have had from any chip shop. The fish is also nicely cooked and they have a wide range of other food including burgers. Staff are very nice and friendly. Queues are big on Friday nights but you can phone your order through in advance.

Never had better fish and chips! I don’t know how they do it but their fish and chips are exceptionally good.

My usual chippy in Hurst had their phone off the hook all afternoon, so I headed for Hassocks as a fallback with zero expectations. Wow. Absolutely superb chips, best for ages, and delicious flakey white cod. Two medium cod, one large chips and mushy peas came to £14. I had to wait almost 30 minutes (Friday evening, arrived 1820), but worth the wait. Service was great too, both people serving were welcoming, courteous and efficient. So I have a new Chippy of Choice.

Fancied Fish & Chips for my tea tonight, so Googled the chip shop nearest the site I'm camping at.. So glad I did, the Cod was cooked perfectly, not to much batter, and the Chips were spot on, not at all greasey. I think I can say they are the best I've ever had, and at 60, I've had a few fish suppers over the years. Staff in the shop were friendly and helpful, couldn't fault the food or the service.

Gluten free fish and chips!!! Amazing, best fish and chips I’ve had in a while. They offered to make the gluten free batter fresh for me for the fish of my choice! Best haddock and chips. What a find! :) all fried in the same fryer though so not suitable for coeliacs.

Seems to be a yearly visit for us whilst camping locally, but it's consistent each time! Fab food and friendly staff. Perfect! My wife says the haddock is the best she's had, and each time I visit, the food is freshly cooked to order. Well worth a visit!

My wife , daughter and I ordered 3 medium cod and chips and curry sauce. We all agreed this was the best fish and chips we had ever tasted. The cod was perfectly cooked and skinless. Lovely smiling lady took my order and the Chef Head fryer engaged in polite conversation. No salt lots of vinegar please - order was perfect and a fork was provided when I said I was going to eat it immediately on a park bench!Good value, great flavour and lots of smiles!Definitely worth a revisit for a larger order!

I noticed the business was under new management so decided to give it one last chance. Back to its best, perfectly cooked fish and excellent crispy chips....and a very friendly team.

Unlike other reviews we enjoyed some take away chips and a child fish and chips today after a family walk. Everything was cooked fresh and chips crispy and not too greasy. My son ate every last bit of his cod and it was just the right size, he got to the last chip and couldn't eat any more. We would definitely go again. We were the only customers as it was mid afternoon.

Used to be a great fish and chip shop about 2-3 years ago but it keeps getting taken over and each time it seems to deteriorate. My fish was totally overcooked , the batter very hard not nice and crispy like it used to be, also the fish was very dry. The chips were Hard due to over-cooking, very disappointing considering the cost.

Worst takeaway i've ever had. Not sure how chips can taste so awful and our sausages weren't cooked properly. Was also 15 minutes late. Save your money and disappointment. Keymer Fish & Chips up the road is always amazing so just go there

Ordered food for 5 people which was very poor quality and took ages. The chips tasted re-heated and very bland, sausage in batter tasted under cooked, veggie burgers were like axminster served in an axminster bun. Wont be going back.

Sadly this place has detoriated since my first review when it changed handsback in 2017.I emailed the owners after a really bad experience and had no response.The chips are now either/or greasy,undercooked and flacid. Really poor fish with chewy batter.

Large chips not large enough, more like a medium size would rather pay more to get more, appreciate the guy staying open during Covid, won't be going to Keymer fish and chips after they closed shop and left us high and dry

I have used this chippy several times since it changed hands 2-3 years ago. It was excellent to start with and the cod was beautiful and batter good with crispy chips. Since lock down we have had two deliveries and both have been below par. This one today particularly bad. Maybe Saturday and being very busy is partially to blame?We will try another local one next time until we can collect as usual and see what we are getting!!

When this place changed hands it was brilliant cooked to order and brilliant, now sorry to say that its true what some of the reviews have said, chips soggy, fish dry and reheated, so now its off and find somewhere else.

Absolutely incredible, my pukka pie was exquisite and the chips to die for. Despite this, the highlight of my meal was the wonderful service from Jacob and Joe, I’d expect their level of politeness and professionalism from a Michelin star restaurant, not your average local chippy...

I don’t often get fish and chips take out but when I do I will always go to hassocks fish and chips. I have never had a bad meal and find their food is always fresh and delicious. They have a great selection on offer and are reasonably priced!

This place has changed management recently, and it shows. Chips are often starting to go rubbery, the batter not cooked through and for the second time, two nuggets short on and order of sixteen. Once is understandable because everyone makes mistakes but again? By the same amount? It starts to appear like a profit strategy in the hope people don’t realise or, like us, they hope people need to get on with the family meal rather than go back. They can’t be employing people who can’t count to 16... so it does make you wonder.

Our last 7 days in England without a vehicle. Staying in Ditchling, a casual stroll to Hassocks takes about 15 minutes.A treat of Fish and Chips for lunch on a beautiful summers day enjoying them in Adastra Park was the best decision.A large piece of cod with a yummy, crunchy batter with chips and salt and vinegar. What I liked about this takeaway was that there was no precooked food to get soft and soggy. Delicious. The guy there was so lovely and took pride in making sure we all got the best for last.

Sadly definitely gone downhill since change of management or head chef. Chips are no longer as crispy as before. Mushy peas are no longer hot enough. (They now appear to be put into the polystyrene cups in advance rather than to order.) Spring rolls not as crispy. Everything now seems more rushed. I would rather wait longer for better quality.

Visited twice in the last couple of weeks. Although the fish is still good, what has happened to the chips? Gone are the lovely crisp double cooked chips that made this place so popular. Instead there are soggy chips no different to anywhere else. Is there new management, in which case please bring back the double cooked chips!

I'm not happy went and brought 3 large chips to find they use the same size containers as a medium portion of chips yet it costs £1.90 for medium and £2.90 for large. What an absolute con! False advertising at it's best will no longer be going there!! Bring the other owner back by far the better manager and want a con merchant!!!

Called in at 14 15 today, sign on door said closed, opening hours supposed to be until14 30, very unprofessional, if you've got an emergency put a sgn on the door, won't be going back.

I always think it's an education walking into this establishment on a busy Friday night. People watching is always fascinating but standing in the queue and looking at how the team work to produce so many wrapped meals in s short period is nothing short of marvellous. I am not sure how things don't get terribly confused but they never seem to and the young staff work together brilliantly and are obviously very professional and also get a buzz out of the job. This is not easy when you are dealing with battered fish and grease. I last had fish there in late February and it was cooked in front of me. I can honestly say it was the best fried battered fish I had eaten in 60 years. Soft, hot, tasty and battered just enough to enjoy and taste but not so much as to smother the fish or be oily and cloying - just perfect. Would return again and again and thoroughly recommend it to anyone even vaguely interested in fish suppers.
