I booked a table before we went arrived on the Saturday. We arrived early so we said we would have a coffee while we waited for our table as they were busy. When we went in at 1pm.there was not a table to be seen reserved. They tried to fit us in a tiny space only fit for one. No apology at all. Just said we ware busy. I really didn't want to hear that as we had pre booked a table. It was my partners special 60th birthday. He loves this cafe. They let us down. So we will not be going back again. They have lost our business. But I'm sure the owner doesn't really care. They even made me pay for the coffees which I thought was a joke

The German Cafe in Shirley provided a delightful experience during my recent visit. As I awaited the outcome of my son's driving test at the neighbouring test centre, I indulged in their full English breakfast, which was nothing short of exceptional. The breakfast was a hearty and satisfying meal, featuring perfectly cooked eggs, crispy bacon, succulent sausages, and a generous serving of baked beans and grilled tomatoes Each component was cooked to perfection, making it a truly comforting meal. The ambience of the cafe was warm and inviting, with friendly staff who made me feel right at home. Their attentiveness and cheerful demeanour added to the positive atmosphere, making my wait a pleasant one. The decor was charming, with a subtle nod to German influences, creating a unique and cosy setting. The highlight of my visit was receiving the wonderful news that my son passed his driving test on his first attempt. The German Cafe provided the perfect backdrop for this memorable moment, and I couldn't have asked for a better place to celebrate. I highly recommend this cafe to anyone in the area, whether you're looking for a delicious meal or simply a welcoming spot to relax.

I use this cafe infrequently. The last three times I have visited I have ordered a cappuccino as my drink, each time I’ve had to ask for them to warm the drink up. It was each time unusually lukewarm. On this visit, I ordered a sandwich and brown bread, it was delivered on white bread. I mentioned it and they did offer to change it, but I said it was okay. When I was leaving and paying the woman who had served me asked if everything was alright. I mentioned both of the issues and that the cappuccinos had been cool on two previous occasions. Her response was to say that they did offer to change the sandwich which I agreed with her. Then she also said that I I should remember to ask for the cappuccino to be heated more the next time I come, but also said that it is the way that it comes out of the machine. Being a regular visitor to café I know that cappuccino comes out a lot hotter from 99% of other outlets. I found her response, defensive and inappropriate.

Raw egg( yolk like water and whites still gelatinous), 2 tiny sausages, 1 mushroom sliced into 4 and undercooked bacon! You can slice a mushroom into 50 slices, its still 1 mushroom and I've never seen sausages so small before. Taking the micky for what your charging and its the 1st time I've ever had to return food and leave a cafe. Wouldn't have left a negative review but owner was rude to me so others should be made aware.

£6.20 for a take out bacon and egg sandwich is extortionate. Normal white bread, nothing special other what you would expect from a greasy spoon, except you’d only pay around £3.50. Don’t mind a fair price but I don’t like being ripped off.

My husband and I enjoying walking up the road to have brunch here regularly but we’ve noticed today the quality of the meat and portion size has changed. My sausage and egg sandwich was pitiful (sausage covered half of the bread it was on with a small egg). My husband had the Grosti which was presented well but wasn’t like it used to be. I don’t think we will return sadly.

Hi Came with some expectations as it says "German Cafe" and both the interior and the menu seems attractive enough - so we decided to give it a try. Blonde girl showed us to our table, she was quite pleasant. She finished her shift I guess and so another girl came to served us. she too was quite pleasant and well mannered. However being German menu I was interested in German Bradwurst but wasn't quite sure which was which so I asked her about Tiroler Grosti whether this includes the German sausage - her response was "I havn't a clue!" and that's it. I expected her to say I havn't a clue but I can find out but instead she just left it a that. so without wanting to ask further I just orderd the german bradwurst curry and chips. my friend ordered a pork schnitzel. The food came, I was a little disappointed to see good portion of chips but small tiny pre cut up sausage. The pork schnitzel was slightly better piece . Overall its rather expensive for small piece cut up sausage for £10 and pork Schnitzel for £12. So it could have been so much better but the waitress could have been more knowledgable and offered to find out more and the food could have been better.

Came in here before going shopping and I was very pleasantly surprised. Lovely decor and great menu. My girlfriend and her son, both went for the full English, whereas I wanted to try something German, so went for their version of breakfast, which was very filling. Very pleasant staff and I heard another customer speaking to the, I assumed, owner in German, so it must be known in the local German community. We will have to come back later one day and try other traditional foods at lunch time.

I have regularly frequented this cafe snd last weekend went for breakfast. I noticed on sitting down that it was extremely cold and asked politely if the heating could be increased. I was immediately told that there was no heating and was extremely confused as to why the cafe should be open if that was the case. There was also no visual notifications about an ongoing heating issue. I had to bring in a blanket from my car to make it bearable. Disappointing. Will never return.

You can only have free parking for an hour outside, so as the cafe was busy and service was slow, we had to rush. As stated by others, it's not cheap, but the food was nice. Someone queried whether the owner is German. She is, I've spoken to her (in German). And yes, the tradition is to have powdered curry sauce on your Currywurst.

Food quality was awful. And very poor value for money. Paid £7 to be given a single sausage on a plate and a bread roll. The quality of both was poor. Then my wife’s curry wurst was no more than a plate of cheap tomato sauce with curry powder sprinkled on. I’m very much doubting the owners are German or German cuisine trained. The chips ended up being a lump moulded together, as in lift one and you lift your whole portion. When we first went in we were told a 45 min wait on food. When we said we didn’t have the time and left they ran after us and said actually it’s a 10 min wait. Dirty child seat, dirty table, chipped coffee glass. Overall poor service, poor hygiene, poor food, bad prices. Would not return. And I recommend you don’t waste your time and money trying it. This is one to avoid.

Wow, they had this lentil soup, so good I couldn't believe it. I tried to make it home myself, but it wasn't as good. They use proper stock and fresh veg, is so aromatic and tasty. From then this is the place we go every Sunday after church for a relaxing tasty dinner. We have also truer other meals from the menu. My top favourite is the Wiener Schnitzel with sauerkraut and mash. You can have it with any other sides, but this is the classic! I have been in Wien few times, but I dare to say that the schnitzel here in this small cafe is better than I had in Wien and for half of the price! I'm so glad to have this place so near by. Went here on a recommendation on A Saturday early afternoon. I admired the German decor and authenticity of the place. However, both be and my wife came for the traditional full English breakfast. The breakfasts are modestly priced at 7.95. I ordered a pot of tea and glass of orange juice without paying attention to how much this place actually charges. The apple pie looked home made and delicious so I asked for two slices to takeout but was taken aback when I was charged circa £30 for the meal!!I usually don't mind paying the premium for quality but the breakfast was certainly on the small side and I genuinely did no feel the price was justified. Overall, had I known I would be paying so much I would have made the extra few miles journey to Becketts Farm as I find their breakfasts to be much better value for money (and larger for the same price). I would certainly return here again to sample the traditional German sausages in future.

The portion sizes were good and the food delicious. Having been to both Vienna and Berlin, the food was authentic and just as good. First visited this place for a breakfast a while ago, since then it's been my go-to place for a quick bite to eat. A modest cafe with with a very homely feel, owned and operated by what I believe to be a husband and wife duo? And a small front of house team. The menu is a blend of English and German cuisine, influenced by the owners and their respective nationalities. Personally, I would regard the traditional breakfast/brunch as the strongest feature on the menu, although don't that that deter you from visiting for lunch, as there is still a wide range of options to choose from. There is ample parking space nearby, and is worth the walk if you live in the area. The only negative I could come up with was a lack of atmosphere, there is no background music, and although not a total deal breaker, definitely draws away from the overall experience. When the cafe is quiet, the silence is taken over by the sound of shuffling papers and clanging pots and pans, not ideal. Sets itself apart from its competition on the stratford road with its unique spin on the Cafe business. Always worth a visit and is just what you need.

late for lunch so thought to pop in for a German meal. Lived in Germany and love the food. Had Schnitzel a while back and it was very nice with sauerkraut. I would have preferred a salad as a side dish but from a previous time I knew it was not going to be one of those delicious side salads you get in Germany with their lovely salad dressing. Anyway this time I thought I would try the gulash. It was delicious but only 8 pieces of meat and a load of instant chips. Disappointing. I was asked if it was ok and I said yes delicious but not enough. He said Aberdeen Angus meat. I am sure had the owner been there I would have got a few more pieces. I should have had fried potatoes instead of loads of chips. I think noodles would have been a better accompaniment. I shall try the breakfast next time which I hear is very good. I will also hope that the owner is there too though the gent was very nice.

Had been meaning to visit the German Cafe on the Stratford Road, Shirley, Solihull for sometime and finally did so recently. Glad I did as it lived up to the recommendations that I had received. The menu as a good selection of German country fare and the portions are generous, tasty and well cooked. I had the Jaegerschnitzel which arrived with a generous mushroom sauce topping. Having had Schnitzel many times in Germany, I would say that this compares favourably. Must ensure that I do not leave it to long until my next visit as there are other menu items that caught my eye.

The full English at £7.25 is a tad on the high side, especially when compared to the Sainsburys up the road. £2.65 for a coffee on top is also a little OTT. However, the food is of a good quality and was cooked well so I suppose you get what you pay for. Clean and tidy inside, the host is efficient and friendly enough.

Stopped on our way through for a quick lunch. Excellent salads. Great service. Recommended. Says Cafe Shirley on the front, so we were surprised to find it being a German cafe, but it was no problem at all, and if I wasn't trying to lose weight I'd have been all over the bratwurst.

An ok cafe for a breakfast butty but not my kind of place for a meal. The german element is very tenuous althought they do do bratwust which is something. They also have decent coffee and beer but at a price. Overall it is not bad clean and pleasant but nothing special.

I first discovered The German Café ten years ago while keeping my wife entertained while she was suffering from a knee injury. It is now a favourite for lunch or just a tea or coffee. The cafe is quite small but has also some outside seating. Our first impression was the cleanliness and the friendly welcome we received. Following close behind was the interesting menu, an Anglo German mix including both full English and German breakfasts. When the food arrived we realised we had found a gem. I strongly recommend the schnitzel, our favourite is the Jaeger Schnitzel. Freshly cooked to order with a range of side dishes it is delicious. My choice of sides is fried potatoes with pieces of crispy bacon and either sauerkraut or red cabbage. We always leave full, both of food and bonhomie, and vowing to return soon. My only concern on writing this review is that it will become so popular we won't get a seat! Its popularity would however be well deserved.

Drove past many times and thought I'd give it a go. Nice little place inside although quite small and a friendly owner. I had Currywurst which was just as I remember it in Germany (would love to know where to get to sauce from), lot of chips but not a lot of sausage. Friend who is vegetarian didn't have much to choose from but enjoyed the panini. Both sets of food came pretty quickly.Overall I'd go again, some meals looked a little pricey for a cafe but I don't know of any other German places around.

I called into the German cafe at lunchtime there are quite a few German options on the Menu but as it was my first visit I opted for the English option. Very good service friendly and helpful the service was very quick. Food good and tasty. I will certainly visit again and look forward to trying one of the German options.

A cute, quirky little place with nice staff and good use of local produce. I had the full English, my friend had the German breakfast. Both were great, nicely cooked and presented. Coffee is really good. I must go back in the evening and try the schnitzel..

This cafe has been with us a few years now and is consistently delivers. They do English breakfasts but it's the German specialties I come for: Bratwurst, Schnitzel, fried potatoes and their versions of a German Breakfast. They don't have many covers so it can get busy, though I've never failed to get a seat. It always feels a treat.

It's not big and it's not cheap, but the food is excellent, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is relaxed. We use it regularly. Give it a try.

Worth a visit .freindly staff authentic style of german traditional food . Generouse portion size .Only restricted by use of local produce with the lack of fresh fish .Having worked in deutchland was hoping for vennison goulash and the perch fish they have fresh there .Senf and mett would make it more authentic there was also an absence of the oork knuckle and dumplings .It was nice for a pleasant visit but not german enough for me .

Went here for breakfast this morning and thoroughly enjoyed it! I'm vegan but was still able to have a 'full english' breakfast - sausages, hash browns, beans, mushrooms and fresh tomato. It also came with toast - I had delicious German dark bread with mine as Andrea the owner came over to tell me that the granary I had initially chosen may contain milk. Such wonderful service! My partner also had a full english, but with bacon, sausage and egg included with his. I'm looking forward to coming back here again very soon!

A definite family favourite, superb quality home cooked German food. On this occasion I had the meatballs in mushroom sauce with fried potatoes and salad. Whilst meatballs is a bit of a misdescription, you get a large homemade frikadeller, the meal is none the worse for it. Very tasty in a rich mushroom cream sauce with plenty of mushrooms and a good helping of fried potatoes with bacon and onions, in all a very generous portion, particularly for lunch! My wife had a wiener schnitzel, which was clearly homemade and freshly cooked. The puddings all looked very tempting but given the portion size for the main courses they were not an option at lunchtime. They do a fabulous and very popular English breakfast right through to lunchtime but I usually prefer to go for the German specialities.

Tried to eat here today, waitress tried hard not to make eye contact as I stood at the counter, as did the chef. Yes, they were busy but a brief 'we'll be with you in a minute' would have sufficed. Eventually I asked if it was table service and was told to sit down where I was ignored for another 5 minutes, I had to leave in the end as I only had an hour for lunch. If felt like an unwelcome guest not a paying customer.

We were staying in the Travelodge over the road and as it was chucking it down we decided a quick scamper to Kismet would be sensible. I’m glad we did as we really enjoyed the food and service. We chose king prawn with garlic and chilli, tandoori lamb chop, then meat thali and duck bhuna. All of the food was well presented, tasted great and was very filling. We ended up leaving some as the portion size was a bit much for us.
