The Georgian Townhouse in Norwich

Lovely Sunday lunch. Good to have some plant based options too. Friendly staff. My only criticism is that there were just two roast potatoes and one parsnip with the roast dinner. Would have been perfect to have had a couple more!

Booked for Boxing Day with my family in total six adults and two children. Menu was limited so we had a mix of fish and chips and beef burger and chips. Burger and chips had to be sent back due to not being cooked properly. Fish had obviously come straight out of the freezer and was more batter than fish, also the chips were not cooked. The staff were more interested in laying the tables for breakfast than us and the deputy manager looked as though he had just got out of bed! The deputy manager kept apologising and offered us money off the bill which was accepted but by then our afternoon had been ruined. He said that he would leave a note for the manager to contact me in the morning as he was not there on Boxing Day, at the time of writing this no one has contacted me. I had booked with them for my wife’s special birthday at the end of Jan but having received no communication from them to reassure me things would be any better I have decided to cancel. I sent them a note as to why I’ve cancelled but have still not received any communication back.

Christmas Day, a large booking. Starters were tiny and unseasoned. The mains were bland and my partner believes used a large vat of Bisto gravy. For the prices we were paying, we would expect a homemade gravy or jus. The desserts weren’t great either: Christmas pudding arrived stone cold. Had to go to the bar twice to get served and the only saving grace was the kind and clearly overstretched waitress who took care of us. The bill charged us for an extra child’s menu. Please don’t do Christmas Day in future if you can’t handle it. The standards were really really poor.

Poor food - main course was cold and dessert was clearly microwaved. Every chef in the country knows that if you microwave pastry it goes soggy - GHT need a new chef who actually cares about the standard of food leaving the kitchen. Very disappointing particularly as the price was very high and it markets itself as a fine dining and high quality hotel experience… Very average!

One night stay in our previously home city. How disappointing! The apartment was gloomy due to decor and partially clean. I had to go over to main hotel and ask for the cleaning to be done. Oddly the roof has skylights with no blinds, almost an atrium. Not great if you want to sleep in. The neighbouring building offers noise from its tenants as if they are in your room so beware if you want an early night! We wouldn’t return ever. Recent excursion to central London in similar accommodation at similar price was far superior which is a comparison we struggle with. To be fair the staff seem genuinely caring. This is time for management to look inwardly and consider the environment they are not scrutinising. Another example is the building exterior with smashed glass waiting to be swept, and the pan and brush abandoned by our window. Pride and investment I appear to be missing.

Four of us arrived at 1pm and sat (squeezed) in the back of the conservatory. Cold, noisy, cramped and uncomfortable with far too many tables for the space. The level of noise was incredible and made conversation virtually impossible. We also had to politely ask people to move from adjoining tables if we wanted to go to loo or bar (no table service for drinks we were sat it appeared). As an aside, I had contacted the GTH some weeks before requesting a table with good access for my disabled father in law. He couldn’t make lunch in the end and this was just as well as he couldn’t have got to the table provided. Service was slow and a little confused with wrong starters brought to table after a 45 minute wait. It was then a further hour before we received mains (we did receive an apology). Oh, and the four slices of sourdough bread that were on the table when we arrived were stale and hard. Fortunately the deserts arrived soon after as we just wanted to get out at that point. Starters were poor, mains and deserts okay. And then….. I went to pay for drinks and was told that the total bill was in excess of £540. This was for a pint of lager, two gin and tonics, three soda and limes, a Diet Coke and a Prosecco. I of course said that it was completely wrong. The waiter then said it was because I hadn’t paid for all of our meals, just a deposit. No, I said, I’ve already paid over £500 for the meals including a 10% service charge (I should have asked for this charge back). No you haven’t he said, yes I have I said and so it went (and all of front of other staff and customers). I finally I asked to see an itemised receipt for everything i was being asked to pay for. He printed this out and…. it was for an amount just under £1000 - this for a table of five then reduced to four and not much in the way of drinks. So, between £200-250 each for lunch. Even the waiter at this point conceded this was wrong and then, after looking carefully at the receipt, admitted that other people’s meals and drinks had been added to my bill. After seeing the light and recalculating my total bill outstanding it came to….. £37. This is our fourth Christmas lunch at the Georgian Townhouse, normally with a larger group it has to be said, and we have had good experiences in the past. Profit before quality undoubtedly was the priority on this occasion and it pretty well wrecked our day. We won’t be going back.

Visited for the first and last time, extremely disappointed! Went with a group of friends and we were seated in the conservatory, condensation dripped down on us continuously and soaked our backs and bums! A few of of requested in advance not to have pigs in blankets or stuffing as it has pork in it, no vegetarian option available so we asked for extra vegetables, when the meals were bought out they said they knew nothing about the requested changes and said we’d have to wait another 20 minutes for just turkey, veg and potatoes! I felt sorry for the waitress as it wasn’t her fault just management incompetence! The Christmas pudding was dry and tasteless and we had to pay a 10% tip in advance which was a joke and very cheeky, they wouldn’t have had a tip from us definitely! We spoke to a manager who took an email address and said he’d see what he could do but we’re not holding our breaths and won’t be back!

Very busy and buoyant atmosphere in the run up to Xmas. Service was good, a little slow at times, but generally good throughout. Food was well presented and very tasty. A bit on the pricey side perhaps. Overall a very good visit and we will be back!

Very disappointing Sunday roast, soggy roast potatoes! Wouldn't recommend. Roast potatoes should be crunchy! I asked for no meat, I'm not vegetarian just love veggies.

It was okay. We had fun. We come every year for our Christmas work meal. I have bought big groups here for years. But they have overcharged us on our bill. I have emailed 5 times and they are ignoring so essentially they have stolen our money. Never again will i return, i have now fronted this so our team member is not out of pocket as i organised. I don't mind being over charged as much as being ignored, theres nothing more disrespectful.

We have used the GT as a venue for celebrations in the past, and so it made a good choice for a Sunday lunch with friends around the time of my wife’s birthday. There were 6 of us in total and we spent around 4 hours here. The menu choice is exactly as you would expect - standard roasts with some dietary alternatives, a range of desserts and a wide drinks menu. Food was delicious, service was fast and friendly. Great ambience to the place, bright and buzzing throughout. On a more practical note, the GT is at the top of Unthank Road near the Roman Catholic Cathedral. It has parking out front, but it is also a hotel so a number of places are full from the outset. If you can walk or taxi there it might be better but allow some time for parking otherwise.

Set menu (at £29 a head) had limited choice but food was nice. However I was disappointed with the roulade which was more like a child's portion. Wine over £12 a glass! Then they add 12.5% service charge to the bill. Pleasant evening in the company of friends but I thought it was overpriced and probably won't rush back.

To say I’m absolutely disappointed with our stay is an understatement, having paid £197 for what was supposed to be a family weekend was turned sour by a member of staff asking if we were checking out when we had plenty of time, the room was full of cobwebs, we had a broken chair and a very dubious lamp in our room, the blind in our room was actually broken to the extent we couldn’t open it, the food was to a certain degree ok,the bar staff were to be fair amazing with the exception of the are you checking out staff member, the pictures on their website look nothing like that when you arrive,sorry to say but we would never stay there again,and the fact that when you write a review on their website they actually block it so no one else can see it,talk about freedom of speech.

Decided to give the place another try after a very lacklustre couple of visits years ago. Massively understaffed even though the place was rammed due to a couple of parties/socials. There was one lad manning the entire bar and as a result, we waited 15 minutes to be served! Additionally, the price of a round is basically London prices now. We had two pints and a glass of rose wine and it came to something like £21!!! Left after that and went to a much nicer pub down the road and got the same for £13. This place is the definition of fur coat and no knickers I’m afraid to say.

A business meeting. Staff were great. We just wanted a sandwich as our meeting was more important than eating. As a family with 6 adults and 3 children, we booked in for a 5pm table. One of the children is both dairy & gluten free. Knowing this can be difficult, I emailed to let them know and ask what they would be able to offer. Reply came back several days later saying no problem apart from 1 dish, the other dishes could be adapted. That proved to be wrong. 2 year old ended up with rice and a curry sauce with peas. Drinks came in good time along with 1st course although hardly any chips with burgers, in fact, kids meals had more. However, next round of drinks took over half hour to come as did dessert menu having asked twice where drinks order was. Ordered desserts, clearly stating it had to be raspberry sorbet not ice cream due to intolerance. Again, kept waiting for well over half hour despite asking. Then the sorbet came through as ice cream. Chocolate brownies were cold. Sticky toffee pudding, well I’ve put better in the microwave at home. Asked for the bill and again stated not happy with the service. Finally left 3 hours later by which time the children, 6,4 & 2 were over tired and we were fed up. Staff didn’t appear to realise we weren’t happy despite telling them several times. Not a great evening, terrible service although we were the only table outside and not full inside. Waiting staff polite but not overly helpful. Felt as if we were an inconvenience to them. Food was ok but nothing to write home about and they clearly didn’t cater for dairy & gluten free despite telling them that when booking and emailing to double check. Meals/drinks cost £250 and was not worth it. Definitely won’t be going back again.

In truth the Georgian townhouse restaurant is a mixed bag. A lovely location and on the face of it a modern spacious dining area. However certain elements leave it sadly lacking. Firstly it's expensive for what it is. Beer way overpriced and food was ok but nothing special. Distinctly style over substance. Our roast dinner looked great but was missing true roast dinner unctuousness. Paying extra for pigs in blankets and stuffing was also very harsh. Secondly the toilets. For a place that yearns to be truly boutique like in appearance the toilets are distinctly below par. In the gents one of the taps was broken and my wife reliably informs me the ladies reminded her of a Wetherspoons. Not good! Lastly staff seemed overworked and certainly weren't the most attentive. At times it was a real struggle to get anybody to serve us. I love the hotel. The restaurant could do with some work.

Upon arrival we were excited, it looks the business, was busy and the sun was out so we were happy to sit in the garden and battle the app to order. The app is actually quite straight forward and drinks and food came at a speed you would expect. So we had to ask two different members of staff for a high chair but they got there in the end. We had to ask for cutlery and the young waiter bravely balanced his tray next to our one year old who loves to grab but he will learn when he doesn’t have a helpful dad diverting the danger of baby hands. On to our main course and up to know only a few teething issues that didn’t impact the experience, oh well maybe our starter plates, empty glasses could have/should have been removed when new drinks arrived.We ordered our food on the app only for a waiter to arrive and tell us some was no longer available, we ordered an alternative and asked how we got the difference in money back and was told a manager would come and sort. Our good arrived and I asked again and this time we were shown how to request a refund on the app- I will get my money back in 5 days- feels a bit disingenuous to me that they take but delay giving back. I took great interest in the app and realised service charge was added for food and drink. Whilst I accept you can remove it, it is not as clear as the rest of the app.Main course- disappointed, couldn’t eat the chips as not cooked, fish was on the verge of burnt. Now without a doubt with some robust management and clear roles snd expectations this could be a really good place. I think an understanding that the customers whole experience is important. When you charge £6.10 for a lager you are saying we are top end or our customers are daft.When we left I made a point of trying to say thank you to several members of staff, two whom I would suggest were managers didn’t even look up. I have read some of the other feedback and it feels like a pattern around customer service and quality, such a shame as the location and setting are delightful.Big groan- I don’t think it’s ok for wedding parties to come and smoke near other customers tables as they aren’t allowed in their bit.

A long over due birthday meal out (due to Covid) ruined by poor service and mediocre food.There was not one part of our experience that we enjoyed about our evening. We were sat inside so expected table service.Toilets - absolutely filthy, no soap in the men's !Food - over priced £14 for a baked Camembert with some bread! Only 1 vegetarian cooked option. Avoid! Overpriced food and terrible service.We went for Sunday lunch yesterday and first impressions were that we were impressed with the look of restaurant inside and outside - it really is beautiful.However, despite not being busy, me and my partner were ignored by staff for most of our visit. We waited for ages for our drinks and then our food. We were treated like an inconvenience when I flagged staff down to request condiments as we were not checked after our food was dumped down.Finally - after requesting the bill we had to wait over 20 minutes for it to arrive..Really bad and disappointing service, considering how expensive and mediocre the food is. We really did not enjoy our visit and would not recommend.

Order placed and receipt recieved... 20 minutes later we had to ask where our drinks were and was asked if we ordered via the app.25 minutes later and still nothing.Would leave if we hadn't of paid.Poor show!

I visited the restaurant yesterday evening. We ordered three of the katsu curries which were basically flavourless. We would have complained about this had anyone approached our table to offer us, more drinks, asked us how our meal was or offered to remove our empty plates within an hour of finishing them. Unfortunately this didn’t happen. When eventually someone did come to our table, we asked for more drinks and a dessert menu, they brought both but didn’t come back to us to see what we wanted for dessert. It took for us to eventually attract someone’s attention at the end of the evening (staff were mainly milling around, practicing dance moves to 90s hip hop tracks) to ask for the bill. It was a delight to see we’d been charged £20 for two glasses of mediocre wine (didn’t know the price when I ordered as no wine list/prices were provided) and staff eventually took our money. As we left not one person said thank you, goodbye or acknowledged us leaving. I’ve been there a number of times before and I have never received such shoddy service as we did that evening. The food was overpriced considering how flavourless it was and the service was shocking. The only reason we didn’t complain that evening is because we didn’t think the staff would care less as this was the general demeanour they presented throughout our visit.

A spontaneous Sunday breakfast. What a disappointment Lovely staff but the food was terrible . I haven't eaten a thin sliced of processed piece of white bread since the 70"s Come on Georgian town House. If you state on your menu you serve your eggs and toast as soda bread then serve it. Don't replace it with cheap processed white bread which you probably brought from the local supermarket . Cheap and nasty food but charging more than it is worthy .

Was so excited to go out with my family for a meal after a year of lockdown and many sacrifices... only to come home very disappointed and a bit angry with our meal and experience!Got served a burnt (and I mean black) sausage roll bar snack, which was sent back, anaemic chips, and not served by staff who were more interested in chatting to each other, rather than looking after their customers! Very disappointing experience especially after an epic year... come on guys... you need to up your game!!

We are staying the night at the Townhouse so decided to eat in the restaurant...what a great decision that was! Delicious food, I loved my belly pork and my husband had a very tasty chicken and leek pie. Nice atmosphere too thank you!

Spent the day at the Townhouse following our friends' wedding. Lovely atmosphere and great food and service. We'd also booked our friends a room for the night. They were upgraded to The Nest. Beautiful room. Perfect day!

Gran decoración y genial ver al chef en el trabajo.El personal fue atento y sensato a pesar de las ridículas reglas de Covid que el gobierno está imponiendo a los restaurantes y comensales.El estacionamiento era abundante, pero todavía un poco apretado para los tres autos de nuestro grupo. Sin embargo, el personal estuvo feliz de ayudarlo a encontrar más espacio.La única crítica es que el mesero no tenía muchos conocimientos sobre bebidas y no todas las bebidas del menú estaban disponibles. Pero esta fue una buena experiencia y volveremos.

Good option for a Sunday, offering both roast dinner and also other menu choices. Friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

Tuvimos un asado de domingo muy agradable. Había una muy buena selección de asados y otras comidas del menú. Comimos pollo asado y fue excelente. Muy sabroso con todas las guarniciones y abundantes verduras.El servicio fue excelente y el personal fue muy amable. Habíamos reservado para sentarnos afuera y como había llovido 15 minutos antes de nuestra reserva, teníamos la opción de sentarnos adentro o afuera. Decidimos arriesgarnos y aún sentarnos afuera y el camarero trajo una sombrilla a nuestra mesa y dijo que podíamos movernos adentro si llovía demasiado. Por suerte salió el sol.Comentamos que había muy buenas medidas de distanciamiento social, así como estaciones de desinfección de manos y nos sentimos cómodos cenando allí durante estos tiempos. Esperamos volver a comer allí pronto.

Prácticamente del tamaño de las porciones de patatas fritas.No hace falta decir que pagamos y comimos muy rápido para poder irnos a llevar a nuestros hijos a algún lugar un poco más familiar.Hemos estado en innumerables lugares para comer desde que se relajaron las reglas de encierro y, aunque estamos pasando por momentos de miedo, otros establecimientos tienen el equilibrio perfecto, pero el personal de la casa georgiana realmente nos hizo sentir incómodos, se deben hacer cambios serios para nosotros para volver.

Visité el 13/7/20 a la hora del almuerzo, pero he estado aquí muchas veces antes. El personal explicó claramente las nuevas reglas desde la reapertura, lo que lo hizo sentir como un ambiente seguro y relajante. Me senté afuera porque el clima era agradable, usé la aplicación y nos trajeron todo a través del servicio de mesa. La comida era deliciosa y el personal está haciendo un gran trabajo dadas las circunstancias. Esperamos volver a visitarnos pronto.

I didn't know this gem existed until I asked a friend for a good spot for a date. They recomended this place and it certainly did not disappoint.The venue is really nice in itself, looks very historic and oozes charm, inside it is spacious and has a nice feel.The menu is large and varied with all tastes catered for. I cant remember what we chose but the food was really nice and the service spot on. We were kept topped up with drinks all night. It is not cheap typical pub eats by the size of my bill at the end of the evening but is a really nice place to go.Highly recomended and I will return. The only negative thing I can say is that the tables are very close together, not great on a date like I was with some delicate matters to discuss! Still after the drinks had been flowing the inhibitions lowered! I also think the couple sitting next to us were on a date as well, judging by their conversations and demeanour.

It was my husbands 30th birthday and wanted to celebrate with a lovely afternoon having drink and afternoon tea. I have to say it was amazing and we were not disappointed. The portion sizes were great and all the cakes and sandwiches were to die for. A big thank you to Sherri Tye the head chef for making my husbands birthday very special you did a fantastic job..

This restaurant really has slipped below an acceptable standard apart from the lights that were constantly flickering our starters and our mains were a disappointment. This place has fallen from grace.

After a sad Morning at my uncle's funeral we decided to go here for a drink and to chill for a little while.We walked in and the tables all had reserved on them we ask if there was a table there was 8 of us we finally got a table and was ask if we were eating I said we would have drinks,My daughter ask if we could have some light food and we were told we could have crisps or nuts !!!Then we were told we couldn't have alcohol as it was only 10.30 and we couldn't have alcohol till 11.I told the waitress we had an early morning and had been to a funeral .The waitress was very grumpy and made us all feel very unwelcome. I paid the bill and we left Lovely place but the waitress needs to cheer up a bit we were paying customers.
