We had our wedding ceremony and reception at The Georgian Townhouse last month and I cannot praise the team enough! I booked the venue about a year before and had nothing but attentive and patient support from Natasha via emails when it came to answering all my questions and making food choices. On the day itself, we had Harry as our co ordinator and he really put us at ease when he appeared as a friendly face in the morning to brief us on how the day would go and when/ where to meet the registrars. He came back to escort us over and led us into the ceremony room in time with our music and just overall took care of everything so we didn’t worry about the running of the rest of the day. It rained all day which meant we couldn’t use the private courtyard as expected, but the team at GT had already thought ahead and unknowingly to us had transformed the conservatory area in the main pub building into a reception room for us with all the drinks laid out in preparation. We were able to catch up with friends and family here while the staff changed over the ceremony room ready for our meal. The food was delicious, served on time and there was plenty of it! The team were happy for us to drop off anything we needed to the night before and took care of setting up our decor on the tables and taking it down again at the end of the night. So thank you to all the staff involved for making the day run smoothly so we didn’t have to give the logistics a second thought! We were able to enjoy ourselves with our loved ones and it really did feel like a perfect day.

As a family we have used this place quite often. At least once a week we would meet up with friends and their young families but we sadly are not going to bother any more. The food used to be average but palatable for us and the kids and the service was always good. However, they seemed to have lost some of the good staff we used to always see in there who have been replaced by people that simply don't seem to care. There actually seem to be more staff milling about these days but somehow it is more difficult to get served? It never used to be a problem to get a drink at the bar, a menu, an order taken, your food served in under 40 minutes, but on our last visit, each of these things were issues. Issues that the staff told us to simply email in about! Sadly i think said email would be treated in the same way as the staff treat their customers in person... They have good facilities for the kids (indoor and outdoor play areas) but the indoor play area is so dirty that i don't let my child anywhere near it and the outside equipment is in urgent need of repair so best to avoid if you don't want any injuries! I'm not sure what has gone wrong with the management behind the scenes in the last few months, but sadly this isn't the place it used to be and they have now lost a handful more regulars because of it.

Food was nice enough. However, we ordered 2 adult burgers and 2 kids burgers to our table and when they arrived, the serving sizes were identical. The only differences between an adult plate and child plate was burger sauce, a spoon of coleslaw and the adult burger cost twice the price. Had we known, we would have ordered 4 kids burgers and shaved off half the bill. We will not be bothering here again.

This was a gathering of friends to celebrate a wedding. We were booked in the conservatory, but due to a double booking we were placed in a space that was like a large thoroughfare near the children’s room. The space was busy, noisy and cramped. We could have overlooked this if the quality of the service and food was great - both were not. We had a very scruffy waiter who served us one plate at a time ! Despite ordering our food choices in advance we had a wait for our meals. When served they were of variable quality. The steak was particularly poor. In all a very disappointing evening. It is also appropriate to add that parking was a major issue - and one we were not prepared for.

This gem needs urgent help. It’s so sad to see what has happened to this beautiful hotel my second visit in a month and things are in decline. 45 minutes to get a glass of wine on arrival. Staff who were at best distracted, our order was taken and five minute later they came back to confirm it. We saw orders sitting at the pass for 15 minutes and our own food was disappointing. The cauliflower main was cold and the battered fish over cooked and the chips only lukewarm. We were never offered second drinks. So sad to see this once buzzing and thriving place struggling.

Visited the Georgian Townhouse for an early dinner on a Friday evening, did not have a booking but hoped there would be a table as only two of us. We were offered a table in the conservatory by a waiter but he was then interrupted by a lady who we later found out was the General Manager and told he could not sit us there (no acknowledgement of us by the lady at all). We were told to pick a table at the front and then left. This unfortunately set the tone for the rest of our experience. No menus were provided, no one came to take our order. Eventually managed to place an order at the bar but the food arrived before the drinks, no one cleared our table of dirty plates, desserts were ordered and put on the table next to the dirty main course plates! I ended up paying at the bar so we could leave. Overall, a shambles and would not recommend.

I do always find this place a bit of a puzzle ! It looks the part , lovely outdoor space etc friendly staff , BUT the food can be very hit and miss ! Tonight we called in and ordered the sirloin steak and the burger. I asked to swap chips for salad which they said they could do. When it came the steak actually did look good ( and it was) but the salad looked limp and apologetic ! Half watercress, half leaves with beetroot. No cucumber or tomato , or anything else they had to hand sweetcorn , red onion ! It looked a complete “ half hearted throw together “ 😟 dont know how they could be proud of sending that out My husband ordered the burger at £16 It came with the TINIEST pot of coleslaw i have ever seen. The plate looked like a kids meal It was ok ish , but i did feel that as it was getting later we possibly didnt get the very best of the GTH !🙆‍♀️

This was my first visit, and I'm likely to go back. The venue is very well presented, with a lovely long bar and welcoming staff. The dining room and annex rooms are available for private functions, and I attended as a guest. There was a good selection of beers and ales, and although I didn't dine, the buffet on offer was very nice indeed. There is onsite parking and pay meters, but I'm not sure if guests can park for free. A five- to ten-minute walk into town, the venue offers a great alternative to town pubs and bars if you want a more secluded get-together.

The Georgian Townhouse is normally a lovely location for a bite to eat, we have been many times and usually always very satisfied. As tradition my partner and I go here every Valentines Day, it’s always just the right atmosphere with candles etc but not over the top. Food always is lovely, however our most recent experience we left feeling really dissatisfied. We opted for the set menu as it felt appropriate for our date evening. I had the ravioli starter which was delicious and felt very fresh. My partner chose the scallop starter, to which he was presented 1 singular scallop with its accompaniments but it was no bigger than a 10 pence piece. To us it felt a little stingy. Following onto mains, we noticed after a little wait that our food had been taken to the table beside us, they happened to have ordered exactly the same as us, the confusion between staff was clear but we weren’t bothered by that. My partner had the tagliatelle which he was satisfied with, but it didn’t seem to be up to the normal standard of food GTH offer. I chose the upgrade to the plaice which is where it went wrong. If a fish is to be served head and all, a small disclaimer on the menu should be highlighted as for some people they may not enjoy this. I did not enjoy this, with the eye removed but the head still very much intact I scraped away at the bones for a couple mouthfuls of fish. Arguably I should have asked when ordering, that’s a lesson I will learn for next time. The food just didn’t quite hit the mark unfortunately for us. The staff were kind, but evidently new. I’d like to reiterate we are normally big fans of the GTH but this visit left us a little disappointed and having pudding at home instead…

Had a lovely stay, booked to celebrate my partners birthday and stay away for the night. We booked a comfy double, however when we arrived we were told our room was having some work done. They very kindly upgraded us to the Nest (best room/suite in the house) The room itself was fab. Massive bed, which was super comfy, get space and facilities. Only thing to let this room down was the very poor shower. Water pressure really not great, and was a little disappointing. Of course we were grateful for the upgrade, but for a full paying customer of this room. I think it would be a let down. Also around 7am I was woken but what must have been furniture being moved around below me.. not sure if it was the kitchen below.. but this was was very loud for so early in the morning. Booked for Boxing Day with my family in total six adults and two children. Menu was limited so we had a mix of fish and chips and beef burger and chips. Burger and chips had to be sent back due to not being cooked properly. Fish had obviously come straight out of the freezer and was more batter than fish, also the chips were not cooked. The staff were more interested in laying the tables for breakfast than us and the deputy manager looked as though he had just got out of bed! The deputy manager kept apologising and offered us money off the bill which was accepted but by then our afternoon had been ruined. He said that he would leave a note for the manager to contact me in the morning as he was not there on Boxing Day, at the time of writing this no one has contacted me. Christmas Day, a large booking. Starters were tiny and unseasoned. The mains were bland and my partner believes used a large vat of Bisto gravy. For the prices we were paying, we would expect a homemade gravy or jus. The desserts weren’t great either: Christmas pudding arrived stone cold. Had to go to the bar twice to get served and the only saving grace was the kind and clearly overstretched waitress who took care of us. The bill charged us for an extra child’s menu. One night stay in our previously home city. How disappointing! The apartment was gloomy due to decor and partially clean. I had to go over to main hotel and ask for the cleaning to be done. Oddly the roof has skylights with no blinds, almost an atrium. Not great if you want to sleep in. The neighbouring building offers noise from its tenants as if they are in your room so beware if you want an early night! We wouldn’t return ever. Recent excursion to central London in similar accommodation at similar price was far superior which is a comparison we struggle with. To be fair the staff seem genuinely caring. This is time for management to look inwardly and consider the environment they are not scrutinising. Another example is the building exterior with smashed glass waiting to be swept, and the pan and brush abandoned by our window. Pride and investment I appear to be missing.

Four of us arrived at 1pm and sat (squeezed) in the back of the conservatory. Cold, noisy, cramped and uncomfortable with far too many tables for the space. The level of noise was incredible and made conversation virtually impossible. We also had to politely ask people to move from adjoining tables if we wanted to go to loo or bar (no table service for drinks we were sat it appeared). As an aside, I had contacted the GTH some weeks before requesting a table with good access for my disabled father in law. He couldn’t make lunch in the end and this was just as well as he couldn’t have got to the table provided. Service was slow and a little confused with wrong starters brought to table after a 45 minute wait. It was then a further hour before we received mains (we did receive an apology). Oh, and the four slices of sourdough bread that were on the table when we arrived were stale and hard. Fortunately the deserts arrived soon after as we just wanted to get out at that point. Starters were poor, mains and deserts okay. And then….. I went to pay for drinks and was told that the total bill was in excess of £540. This was for a pint of lager, two gin and tonics, three soda and limes, a Diet Coke and a Prosecco. I of course said that it was completely wrong. The waiter then said it was because I hadn’t paid for all of our meals, just a deposit. No, I said, I’ve already paid over £500 for the meals including a 10% service charge (I should have asked for this charge back). No you haven’t he said, yes I have I said and so it went (and all of front of other staff and customers). I finally I asked to see an itemised receipt for everything i was being asked to pay for. He printed this out and…. it was for an amount just under £1000 - this for a table of five then reduced to four and not much in the way of drinks. So, between £200-250 each for lunch. Even the waiter at this point conceded this was wrong and then, after looking carefully at the receipt, admitted that other people’s meals and drinks had been added to my bill. After seeing the light and recalculating my total bill outstanding it came to….. £37. This is our fourth Christmas lunch at the Georgian Townhouse, normally with a larger group it has to be said, and we have had good experiences in the past. Profit before quality undoubtedly was the priority on this occasion and it pretty well wrecked our day. We won’t be going back.

I felt sorry for the waitress as it wasn’t her fault just management incompetence! The Christmas pudding was dry and tasteless and we had to pay a 10% tip in advance which was a joke and very cheeky, they wouldn’t have had a tip from us definitely! There were 6 of us in total and we spent around 4 hours here. The menu choice is exactly as you would expect - standard roasts with some dietary alternatives, a range of desserts and a wide drinks menu. Food was delicious, service was fast and friendly. Great ambience to the place, bright and buzzing throughout. On a more practical note, the GT is at the top of Unthank Road near the Roman Catholic Cathedral. It has parking out front, but it is also a hotel so a number of places are full from the outset. If you can walk or taxi there it might be better but allow some time for parking otherwise.

Set menu (at £29 a head) had limited choice but food was nice. However I was disappointed with the roulade which was more like a child's portion. Wine over £12 a glass! Then they add 12.5% service charge to the bill. Pleasant evening in the company of friends but I thought it was overpriced and probably won't rush back.

Decided to give the place another try after a very lacklustre couple of visits years ago. Massively understaffed even though the place was rammed due to a couple of parties/socials. There was one lad manning the entire bar and as a result, we waited 15 minutes to be served! Additionally, the price of a round is basically London prices now. We had two pints and a glass of rose wine and it came to something like £21!!! Left after that and went to a much nicer pub down the road and got the same for £13. This place is the definition of fur coat and no knickers I’m afraid to say.

To say I’m absolutely disappointed with our stay is an understatement, having paid £197 for what was supposed to be a family weekend was turned sour by a member of staff asking if we were checking out when we had plenty of time, the room was full of cobwebs, we had a broken chair and a very dubious lamp in our room, the blind in our room was actually broken to the extent we couldn’t open it, the food was to a certain degree ok,the bar staff were to be fair amazing with the exception of the are you checking out staff member, the pictures on their website look nothing like that when you arrive, sorry to say but we would never stay there again, and the fact that when you write a review on their website they actually block it so no one else can see it,talk about freedom of speech.

A business meeting. Staff were great. We just wanted a sandwich as our meeting was more important than eating. We had a sandwich and a soup..... the bread was so old I am surprised it wasnt green, it was also cold so came out of a fridge. £7.50 for a cheese sandwich I can live with but only if its fresh.... if the owners see this please take it as an opportunity to improve your offering.

As a couple we went twice in a week, the second time because we’re so pleased with the food and the service, but the second time was a disappointment. On the first visit our meals were the sea bass and the fish pie, which was a “special” and had nice chunks of salmon, prawns and white fish with a hot mash topping, obviously freshly cooked, both meals were excellent. Also the person serving us was very knowledgeable about the food and the drinks menu. The Mediterranean style lager was surprisingly tasty as he said. He also took some time to talk with us, which was very welcoming. However on our second visit the service was slower, there was no “specials” menu and the food we chose was disappointing. The chicken curry was pleasant but not outstanding, and there didn’t appear to be much variety of flavours in the sauce. The lasagne appeared very basic, okay but not outstanding. It almost felt like we’re in a different pub! The redeeming feature was the log fire near our table which added to a good atmosphere.
