The George Pub Restaurant in Wokingham

This is the worst service!! Food took forever to come. We waited like almost an hour for vegetables sticks and onion rings as starters. And another half an hour for the main. After serving the food no one even came to ask if our food was fine. It was blunt it needed more seasoning!! And the fish is over cooked! Now the pudding another 30mins! My kids have to chase the woman working in the bar just to get the pudding!! Like for goodness sake!! I am definitely not coming back. What a waste of time waiting and waiting to be served!!

We visited for a family birthday, late on a Sunday afternoon. Despite the restaurant being near to empty the service was slow and haphazard. It was clearly in the middle of a shift change but nonetheless poor. It took over an hour for our mains to be served We were advised the pork roast was sold out which, given the time of day, was fair enough and that the beef option was down to the last two, but what was served up was just fat and had to be returned for an alternative dish. This added to further delay. The experience was somewhat ‘rescued’ by a new shift waitress (whose name I regrettably failed to note, but who was an experienced staff member) who took care of us and actually seemed to be bothered about events (unlike the previous crew) There is no excuse for this experience even when the restaurant is full, let alone near empty. Finally in the middle of winter is it a good idea to have the side door available for entry and exit when cold blasts your patrons eating their dinner nearby as guests come and go? It doesn’t take much thought does it?

Lara and Max looked after us so well. The food was excellent and the whole atmosphere was warm and homely. Well done. Certainly recommend The George

Beautiful looking pub, excited to go. Got there for late lunch. I feel we got the left over scraps from lunch. Sent 2 meals back, should have sent them all back. I felt embarrassed for the bar man as I’m aware it wasn’t his fault.. Really disappointing

Oh dear, booked on line the night before for a family lunch.arrived on time but no staff available for at least ten minutes to show us to a table.One hour later we were served with our order !!!fortunately the food( mAinly steak wasn’t bad.) but the waiting was dreadful.Lack of staff very apparent.

We went on bank holiday Monday when the majority of staff had called in sick so only Shonnah and Yaz were waiting tables. Despite Shonnah having completed her shift at 2:30 and staying on to help out and a table of 6 who thought that every roast dinner should be cooked from scratch on demand yet somehow not have to wait a couple of hours for it to cook, they were possibly the kindest and most professional servers we have encountered in recent years. Constantly in good humour and never once lost their patience. The food was what you would expect from a chain pub but the service was second to none. If you read this, thank you very much ladies and I seriously hope you get recognition for your hard work and dedication.

Booking a group caused a few issues and stress for me organising a get together for geographically distanced relations! But put that down to Chef and Brewer. Allocated a large table at one end of the pub. Being long it was difficult for people to talk, however swapped seats for dessert. Pub was accommodating when 3 of our party got lost round Lower Earley. Pre-ordered food came as ordered and was liked by all, everyone very complimentary about the food, the venue, and the staff (Yasmin). We were able to add the odd extra dessert on top of our pre-order. Were given plenty of warning about giving the table up but we had been there over 3 hours! Got the bill before we were able to present our discount card and no automatic service charge which was a relief. Couldn't part pay with cash. paying by several cards, the staff did themselves out of the tip. When we tried to pay this they asked to be paid in cash... So half a star lost for online group booking and half for no cash (we are senior generation). Have been here recently as a couple and this was definitely an improvement.

Nice and quaint. We had gone for a long walk through Dinton pastures and ended up taking a break here later. Yas and Charlie were very helpful. Great location. We sat outside.

Our first visit and we won't be coming back. Our table hadn't been wiped and was covered in sticky glass-marks. Food was dreadful. Mushy prawns which were a,most cold, served in a soggy batter. We also had fish and chips - fish was VERY overcooked and the batter so hard it flew off the plate when i cut into it. Cold peas, too. Add to all of that an unsmiling, cold landlady and - never again!

Tasty food at a good price. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. Good location next to the cinema, perfect for a bite out before a movie.

A few friends went to The George, the food was better than standard pub food but the highlight was the lovely server Charlie. He was helpful and friendly and was incredibly patient with our requests!The atmosphere is relaxed and cozy, very calm and ideal for family, friends or party.

Amazing service on a Saturday night even though it was very busy, came in with no reservation but still got a table, the lady at the front was very friendly. Charlie was amazing waiter, very polite and attentive.

We made a local visit to this pub and decided to have some food we ordered Atlantic cod with chips , chicken and leak pie to include mash , when the food arrived it was perfectly presented but we never enjoyed it as it never tasted fresh so the mash tasted like it had been left in the fridge for a few days the chicken and leek pie the pastry was tough to cut and tasted like it came from Icelands frozen supermarket the same with the cod , you really need to start cooking fresh food with good chefs that know how to cook apart from that a nice drinking establishment.

The George is a lovely cosy pub with good food. The staff were clearly so busy in the Christmas month but everyone was so lovely to customers. Yaz, our waitress, was so friendly and helpful, she gave us great recommendations for wine and dessert! There is a friendly and sociable atmosphere at the George, and staff are happy to accommodate meal requests too. A well visited local pub for us, we love coming here.

Table was ready on time. Jenni showed us to our table and left us to settle and look over the menu's the xmas menu looked rather nice but we decided of the pub menu. Drinks order was taken and served by Charlie who then took our food order. Starters where served by Christina. Starters where tasty and hot. Main courses where served and arrived piping hot. Decided to skip pudding. A real team effort as always

Great pub/restaurant in good location. Lovely food and served by a new recruit Sam. Sam was in training when he served us and was great, polite with good customer service.

Family went for an early evening meal sadly due to the current shortages some things missing from the menu however they were still able to serve great tasting food that was hot and looked every bit as good as it tasted. Megan was a great hostess instincively knowing when to appear at our table. Matt the manager was on top form his sense of hummor is fantastic Jeni who helped serve our meal has a super fun. Visited on Tuesday, unfortunately only 1 chef but the standard was still great , few items not available on the menu due to not delivered can’t be helped.Was let down when my steak arrived as no garnish , Manager Matt came out and apologised as hadn’t told the staff to let people know , which was greatly appreciated.Megan was a great waitress and kept us informed on our order.Well done Megan and Matt , we will be back

Had a nice steak meal with a few friends, good food and the staff were so helpful, especially the manager Lily! Food came out in no time at all and the staff were accommodating with some particular food demands, definitely recommend!

Had a great meal & would definitely recommend this pub. They had problems with one of their chillers been broken & so lots of their items where off the menu but having said that the staff were fantastic & the meal we had was lovely as well.

After one bad experience I decided to give my local pub another try, but after ordering the vegan pie, yet being given the meat pie I am more than dissapointed. As someone who hasn't eaten met for 5 years, there was utter horror when my friend pointed out that the contence looked a lot like beef. Granted the waiter was apologetic and offered a refund, this is unacceptable. Do not recommend.

First time in Reading,found this place by chance, was out midday looking for somewhere to go in the evening for dinner, glad we found The George.Staff there were really friendly and enthusiastic, made us feel so welcome, looked at the menu and decided to go back that evening.I was celebrating a big birthday the following day and our server that evening Jenny was so helpful by giving us suggestions on what we could do and where to go.The meal was lovely, didn't have to wait to long, love that there is a pet station at the door with treats and water, you can even buy your dog to some pet ice cream.Definitely recommend this place, thankyou everyone for a enjoyable visit.

Jenna/Jenni (sorry can't quite remember the name) was such a great waitress, nothing was too much to ask. Made us feel welcome and well attended to. The food was lovely, the outdoor seating area is perfect for hot days with plenty of shade if needed. Amazing value, overall a really pleasant experience and we'll definitely be back soon.

Booked a table for dinner after my partner finished work only to receive a phone call as the taxi turned up saying the kitchen was closed after checking we where informed we could take our own food but why pay for there drinks when the food has come from somewhere else so could stay home and have the same experience

Botox Jenni (with an I) was exceptionally well presented even with the East End attitude. Rhi was incredibly helpful and made the whole experience well worth the visit. The food was just was wonderful.

El plan era disfrutar de una buena película en el cine Showcase cercano y la parte superior de la noche con una buena comida y el plan resultó ser bueno, The George está a un corto paseo por el puente del río desde el Showcase Winnersh y después de un mi pareja y yo hicimos una película muy agradable, hice una reserva previa de una mesa y me alegré de haberlo hecho, ya que este pub es tan popular. La comida era de primera clase bien preparada y abundante, el servicio también fue atento y el gerente pregunta muchas veces si estábamos contentos con nuestra comida y si lo estábamos. Elegí el Chef's Garden Bowl más filete de lomo, pero desafortunadamente el bistec tenía varios trozos de cartílago no comestible y las tiras magras eran bastante masticables. Las verduras eran bastante agradables, pero en otra ocasión iría por la opción de lubina o salmón. Las comidas de lasaña de mis amigos eran buenas y abundantes. El servicio fue bueno, aunque cuando mencioné el bistec masticable, la camarera simplemente culpó al proveedor, sin siquiera una palabra de disculpa. Quizás un poco de entrenamiento sería útil.

Came here only a couple of days ago for xmas lunch with my friends. All I can say this place is wonderful. The staff are so friendly. Environment was so warming. I had the set xmas menu and it was delicious. Starters were garlic mushroom which were lush. The traditional Turkey meal was hot and fresh. Throughly enjoyed the food and place. Well recommended by me!!!

Solo visit on Business Trip. Second time this week. On both occasions the welcome was warm and the food really good for the price point. The staff here are friendly and attentive. I had Fish and Chips on the first visit which was very good and Lamb Pie on the second, also very good. I would highly recommend.

Well what a lovely place. Been here three Thursday nights and a Saturday night. The host and his wife are great but equally the staff and kitchen staff do a fabulous job. Food is delicious and priced very well. All in all 10 out of 10 staff and food decor the whole experience brilliant. Keep up the great work

Anoche decidimos probar la comida una vez más en este pub / restaurante junto al río después de estar menos que impresionados hace un par de años. Sabíamos que el pub había sido renovado y que había habido un cambio de administración y personal. Estoy muy contento de que lo hayamos hecho. Nos recibió un miembro del equipo muy amable y feliz (digo "equipo" porque durante toda la noche se hizo evidente que todo el personal actuó como un equipo). Nos llevaron a nuestra mesa y los pedidos de bebidas se tomaron de inmediato y se entregaron de inmediato. Nos dieron la cantidad justa de tiempo para elegir nuestras comidas, que eran abundantes, y todos quedamos muy impresionados con nuestras comidas, todos eligieron algo diferente para comer. Mi único comentario negativo sería la entrega de la comida. Se entregaron dos comidas, luego una pausa antes de que llegara la siguiente, luego una pausa más larga antes de que llegara la última comida. Aparte de eso, definitivamente recomendaría The George como ir al pub / restaurante.

Very nice and cosy restaurant. Just had a major refurb and it’s very nice . My Daughter , granddaughter (4) , grandson (3 months) and I enjoyed our meals . They were cooked nicely , full of flavour and piping hot . We were served by a lovely young girl called LILLY and she was very polite and attentive .

We went to the George because the Bar and Block at the Premier Inn over the road was closing early due to staff shortages. The manager at the George explained they were also short staffed but would fit us in. He was so helpful - had been on his feet for 12 hours and still had some to go. Still smiled and chatted with us.

Only living two minutes up the road and being a regular visitor for years, I think tonight’s attempt to eat at The George will be our last! My 14 year old son and I had to leave because of a very rude member of staff!

The pub offers a beautiful setting with a large beer garden and next to the river. It was an unseasonably hot September day when we visited this pub for lunch as a group of 6 friends so we opted to sit outside. The staff obviously found this very difficult and we had to wait 30 minutes after originally ordering our food before ordering it again as an outside table! It was a further hour and a half from (the second) time of ordering that our food arrived. All from the lunch menu and nothing too fancy; rarebit, fish finger sandwiches etc. Famished, by this point, our long awaited food finally arrived but was cold, congealed and completely inedible. We picked at what could be eaten but couldn't face the wait of the food being made again so asked and were given a full refund. Such a shame. This looks like it could be such a lovely place to sit and enjoy a few hours with friends. Just make sure you eat before you go!

We had a family lunch there today and we were very disappointed. We waited over an hour and a half for our lunch. I had to chase twice and when it eventually arrived all the food was luke warm. I sent back my jacket potato as it was cold. We really should have sent everything back but everyone was so hungry.

This is a very old charming pub with a deservedly good reputation for food. The ambience and menu choice are inviting, and prices are reasonable. There is an extensive range of drinks. On this particular visit (our first in a while, although we have eaten here dozens of times over the years) we were disappointed by appallingly poor staff attitude. Our waitress was at best indifferent and at worst downright rude. Dinner (for four) arrived 45 minutes after we ordered - yet she still had not delivered the drinks we had ordered when we first arrived. Not so much an apology but a grunt. If this had been my first visit I would have rated it as poor, but knowing that The George can do better I am prepared to rate as very good despite our experience with staff on this occasion. Management - please keep an eye on (or sack) those of your staff with horrendous attitude to customer service (and if there are so many possible culprits that you cannot decide who to discipline / let go then you need a major review of your staff situation). The food, incidentally, was excellent - although getting hold of sauces took so long that we had all but cleared our plates by the time they arrived.

Pescado y papas fritas y hamburguesa y papas fritas muy bueno como lo fue la tarta de clementina para pudding. Las patatas fritas eran muy sabrosas. Buena selección de comidas para niños, las salchichas eran populares. El servicio pudo haber sido más rápido, pero no teníamos prisa, así que no nos importaba, pero podría ser un problema para algunos. Hubiera sido bueno tener un poco de guarnición de ensalada con la hamburguesa y papas fritas. Pero por lo demás no podía criticar la comida. Precio muy razonable.

My cousin who lives in Reading decided to treat me to a Pub lunch of Fish & Chips. I enjoyed the ambience and the service was excellent with a smiling girl and boy taking it in turns.

Went to George for quiz night there was a man so drunk he was loud n very touchy the bar staff carried on serving him which made things worse the quiz master also drunk walked out half way threw the quiz we had paid to enter the quiz there was no apology from the staff or landlord wot a dive n this was on a Monday really get ur act together

My husband eats at The George Pub almost every night while he is working in WInnersh. I was able to enjoy it as well twice. I loved the atmosphere, friendly service and food. The Sunday Roast was delicious. I had the beef pie the second night and enjoyed that as well.

Went here for a meal pre cinema recently, used to be very good for food, quality was high and menu was varied, however that was sadly no longer the case. Menu choices have been reduced and the quality of the food was very average, had a burger which was completely tasteless and without flavour, mushroom and Stilton starter was also very poor and very badly presented.

This pub is local so ive tried coming here multiple times.

Booked table for 7 people for 5.30 and had to wait over an hour between courses. Vegetables were not cooked properly and some items were missing but still charged for. This got rectified once queried when paying the bill but won't be returning - didn't leave until after 8 p.m

We visited here for lunch, the Menu had a lot of choice. The food was cooked really well too, they had a big drinks menu which was nice to be able to chose from.

We've just had another positive visit. Food & drink was good. Service was excellent. It was a busy Sunday afternoon and the food could of been a little warmer but was still more than nice enough.

Local pub with good standard. The pub food have been better earlier and can be improved, but for a beer or some wine it’s nice place. Seating towards the river when the sun is shining. Quiz nights for those that are interesting in such activities.
