Best roast I’ve ever had! Big portion, delicious meat, yummy potatoes, amazing gravy! We were in the dining area upstairs, which is very cozy and quiet nicely tucked away from the downstairs pub feel. Service was super attentive and friendly. Would highly recommend this place for a Sunday Roast and will definitely come back myself! Thanks team :)

Edit: The owner has said that my review may be misplaced. It is not, I had this experience at The George on the Strand. The man may not have been wearing a sports jacket, but it was certainly a smart jacket that did not match his trousers, which I assumed to be a sports jacket - otherwise it was simply a mismatched blazer. The Facts: Atmosphere: really good. Service: Awful. Bartended told me ‘we don’t have that wine’ while laughing. I had asked for the Chardonnay on the wine list. I pointed it out to him on the list. He laughed and told me how to pronounce it ‘because it’s French’. As a result, I let him know that I am, in fact, French. Nice one. Very arrogant man. Drinks: the wine is fine but very overpriced, as is expected in central London. Would recommend many other pubs nearby before this one, but it’s not bad at all push. Really let down by the arrogant and obtuse service. Would avoid the man wearing a sports jacket - just plain rude. Don’t go if you have the choice; if you don’t have the choice, it’s not awful. Visited 05/03/2025.

Posto poco frequentato, ma decisamente carino. Piano terra con pub, primo piano con ristorante, dove siamo stati noi. Di sabato sera era praticamente deserto. Hamburger e carne alla griglia ottimi. Dolci veramente immangiabili… A Londra è tutto caro, e questo posto non fa eccezione. Non mi è dispiaciuto, ma non ci tornerei.

Hands down me of the nicest suprise roasts I’ve had in a long time! Been to 180 and needed a quick bite before heading off and popped in. Staff are amazing, helpful, friendly (inc chef) and the roast chicken was cooked beautifully with a great selection of sides and a vat of extra gravy! The only reason I haven’t given 5 stars all round is because we didn’t stay long enough to take anything in apart from the food but it felt really nice in the pub for a chilled central london Sunday afternoon. Thanks guys!

We came here specifically for the Sunday Roast. This was close to our hotel in Covent Garden and highly rated on TripAdvisor (& Google). Doesn't look like a touristy spot and feels like mostly locals who were in there. We were seated at a table right next to the bar in the center of the pub. Lovely service by a gentleman. Got to try our first Sunday Roast (chicken and beef loin)

Lovely, lovely, lovely Nyah convinced the grumpy chef to serve me well-done roast beef, when he normally only does rare/medium rare. Good food but only 3 roast potato halves in an adult meal isn't very filling. Pigs in blankets came as 5 chipolatas with streaky bacon, plus 3 discs of pork stuffing, decent value compared to other places. Pork belly roast didn't have the apple sauce that was advertised, instead of which we got purred parsnips 🤮 Beef roast was generous meat wise, and both meals had great Yorkshires. 125ml of wine for £8.35 on the menu was billed as 100ml, and yes, the measure wasn't the expected 125ml, but it was very good wine. Would go back, as this is a lovely pub, and Nyah was outstanding in her attitude, service and in making us belly laugh.

Needed to organise Sunday roast in a pub for my Aussie visitors and the English family. I liked the look of the menu at The George as it had choice of meats (something which other pubs I looked at didn't have). We were seated upstairs fairly close to the kitchen but that wasn't a problem. The food was lovely - most of us had starters, all of which were very tasty. Then we all had roasts, for each of us the meat was cooked properly (it was explained that the roast beef would be served rare- so no surprises). The meals were a good size with all the trimmings and good Yorkshire puddings. We had a lovely wine and finished with a digestive which the barman helped us choose. The whole team were polite and attentive and they worked the floor as a team, so you weren't left waiting for your "server". We had the table from 12.45 until 4 when they explained they would need the table back by 4.30 - we didn't reel rushed and I'm sure if we hadn't have had to leave around that time anyway they would have helped us find a space in the bar. We will be back.

I booked this place for my first Sunday roast based on the atmosphere and reviews - TLDR: I was extremely disappointed in our experience and will not be back. Upon being escorted to our seat, we were asked by two different people if we had any allergies. This insinuates there is flexibility and they are accommodating - far from the truth. They will only cook the meat how they want to cook the meat, even for dishes that are not a part of the Sunday roast. I would understand no flexibility for the Sunday roast dishes, but they refuse to cook the hamburger and the steak any hotter than medium. There are allergy notices posted everywhere AKA they have been burned by this before, but are still unwilling to be flexible. There is very obviously friction between the serving staff and the kitchen staff. The serving staff attempt to be accommodating while the kitchen staff are stubborn. Both of my parents have eating restrictions and felt extremely unwelcome. At one point, the chef “suggested” he wouldn’t “feel comfortable” serving my dad. He just wanted a medium well/well done steak to ensure he does not get sick from a sensitive stomach. Any dingdong could do that if they were not hardheaded and gave a shit about their customers. Had The George posted on their website that they decline any changes or substitutions, that would have been fine - I would not have booked. To not have it posted and then ask about allergies twice as if they care is extremely misleading. Drinks downstairs might be fine, but I do not recommend the food, and don’t expect a warm welcome to the country of England.

The evening was excellent, the food was delicious with good sized portions and it arrived quickly. The only downside was the lack of availability of 3 of the mains which meant that 3 of the 6 of us had to change our first menu choice. Also one of the sides was not available. Whilst I completely understand the need to stop waste it was a shame that the menu was so limited at 7pm on a Saturday night. That said I would definitely go back again. Thank you The George for offering fresh, high quality dishes despite your prime location. Historic pub in a historic setting, which is great. Prices in London are higher than in Germany. When choosing fish and chips, the breading was not seasoned enough but was very crispy, the chips were thick (more like wedges) and seasoned too much. Unfortunately, that doesn't balance each other out. Tartar sauce was tasty, but not enough. The first pint of cider was non-carbonated, but the second was carbonated. Service friendly.

Visited with a friend on a Sunday. We’ve been offered a table in what looked like the dog corner despite the number of options available. We challenged just to hear ‘Those tables are reserved’. (We had reserved too and well in advance.) Our request was eventually accommodated but would really like to use this space and raise awareness middle aged women shouldn’t be relegated in the restaurant table at the back by the toilets or in the invisible corner instead of the one in the window or the most comfortable. My friend and I are jolly veteran foodies, don’t mind the bill as long as the meal and service meet our standards. Considering the fresh ingredients and delicious roast, the ambience and superb wine menu we agreed we would come back. And by the way, that corner table was still unsold when we left 2.5 hours later.

A mixed bag - the venue is of course a lovely old pub in a prime location so good ambience. The wine we had was good, the waiter was friendly and the pork belly sunday lunch I had was very good. However - 3 of my party ordered the roast beef and it was inedible. Very raw. We have dined (in the last 2 months) at Hawksoor, Ibai and Devonshire so we are very comfortable with rare beef, However the meat has to be very high quality to serve it so raw and this simply was not. We can understand the meat is not top quality as the menu is not expensive, however what really irritated us - and the restaurant was not busy so no kitchen pressure - was the refusal of the kitchen to cook it properly, something which would have taken a few seconds. The waiter came back with some bizarre reason from the chef - which we took to be a simple FU, im the chef and I decide. Very poor customer service (not from the waiter who was apologetic) to leave 3 people unable to eat their meal. We wont be back.

Also, the menu on the website is out of date - we actually chose this pub because it advertised some nice dishes, but these weren't available on the day. The bar staff were very matter of fact about this, and didn't seem to care all that much. I won't go again.

Visited as a tourist on Sat.31.08.24. With family. As an ex- landlord I was impressed greatly by the staff's attitude, particularly the manager/owner? In a full house with ever-changing customers throughout 6 hours, Nobody waited, the politeness and service levels were far above average, and all products looked superb. I drank Guinness on a par with that served in an establishment owned by a member of the Guinness family. Like silk. I really did not want to depart. Clancy Adams.(author) Ely. Cambs.

The George has some of the friendliest most attentive service in London. Beautiful traditional looking pub, has a great beer selection and spirits. Didn't try the food, but definitely next time!. Friendliest bartender 👌

We booked in advance for my husband‘s 45th birthday. We only had the weekend so it’s very convenient to book ahead. It was a fantastic experience and the afternoon tea was amazing. Make sure not to eat before the afternoon tea because you get a three course meal. Thank you for making my husband a special dessert for his birthday. We now understand why Langham has the best afternoon tea in London. Everything we ate is a piece of art and every bite was a feast in your taste buds.

Popped in for a drink on sat afternoon but after paying £16.20 for a lager and a single gin and tonic I won’t ever go back why everywhere you go you get ripped off no need 😤😤😤

From the moment I stepped into the tea room, I was welcomed with warmth and hospitality, setting the tone for what turned out to be an exceptional experience. The service provided by Michael was nothing short of outstanding—his attentiveness, attention to detail, and genuine care made us feel truly special. Gustavo worked his magic behind the bar, creating the most incredible cocktails and teas, each one crafted to perfection. And to top it all off, Michael overheard our conversation and surprised us with a beautifully presented birthday plate, making the occasion even more memorable. The entire experience was flawless from start to finish, and I couldn’t be happier. A huge thank you to the team for making our visit so special—I can’t wait to return! Highly, highly recommend!

What a disappointing evening. Had been so looking forward to eating at the iconic Jeremy Lee’s restaurant in Dean Street but ended up feeling like a naughty school girl! The food was so delicious until I had some slightly under cooked cod - it had mostly been lovely and flaky but was a bit gelatinous, sinewy and undercooked in the middle, and I had left this bit on my plate. It was no big deal and I explained this when they cleared the table. I hadn’t asked for a refund or said I wouldn’t pay, however, I was startled some time later to be reacquainted with my leftovers by a server trying to explain that this is apparently how the chef chooses to cook his fish. My uneaten food had been brought back out of the kitchen for all to see like I was some naughty school girl who hadn’t finished her dinner! The server continued to explain until I was left saying how uncomfortable he was making me feel. They said they wouldn’t charge for the dish and would we like to go for a free drink in the members’ bar - no thanks! Really don’t expect to be grilled like that in any restaurant but was so disappointed to feel like this here. Must just say, the chicken pie is to die for though and our original server was an absolute peach! 😅
