Sunday Lunch - upstairs dining room. Open kitchen. Roast beef & all the trimmings. Beef cooked medium rare, well seasoned and a generous portion . Excellent service from our friendly knowledgeable waitress. There was more of a buzz downstairs in the bar, where lunch was also served. Next time . Recommended.

I called around 4 PM for a reservation at 7 PM, and Nicole was very helpful, receptive, and professional. Not only do we have the booking, but the clients also made comments about the food, the room, and the service. It was an excellent experience.

A final meal in London and just what we wanted: a good steak plus the trimmings. Relaxed and quiet setting in a lovely upstairs dining room and the perfect server, Stephanie, who guided us to the right choices. Everything was delicious, perfectly cooked, timely served and reasonably priced. We will definitely go back on our next visit to London!

Cozy bar in a historic setting. Just the way a genuine London bar should look. Just had a quick pint there.

Very beautiful pub ! Was here for lunch with my friend and had some lovely vegan sandwiches! So delicious!! The staff were so friendly and service amazing!

We are from New Zealand and coming here, attracted by the outside appearance, provided a wonderful final meal in GB. The service was superb and the atmosphere was one of energy and of people enjoying themselves.

I want to update this as I’ve been back many times since the review below, most recently today. The food and service here is consistently excellent. There is no question this is the best pub in the area (and there are *many*). Fantastic vegetarian roast followed by a delicious chocolate pudding today. Really excellent food. Restaurant quality for sure. Best Sunday roast around this area for sure. Good selection of beers and wines, lovely staff and fantastic atmosphere. I've lived in this area for 15 years and finally writing a review of The George!

Very cool place to visit, sooo much history!! Bar staff were awesome and told us a bit of the history about the place.

Great neighborhood gem. We were "walk ins" and they seated us quickly, and teed us up with drink and menus right away. Service was friendly and attentive... and the food was very very good. Definitely will go there again. It was a most pleasant experience.

Found the George after taking in a show. We were just in time for last orders! Quite surprised it wasn't open any later on a Saturday night but we really enjoyed this enchanting pub. Will definitely return and have longer

Hands down. We felt completely unwelcome and disrespected by the staff. The horrendous treatment we received overshadowed any semblance of enjoyment we could have had. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone, unless they enjoy being treated like garbage. Avoid at all costs.

Historic pub in a historic setting, which is great. Prices in London are higher than in Germany. When choosing fish and chips, the breading was not seasoned enough but was very crispy, the chips were thick (more like wedges) and seasoned too much. Unfortunately, that doesn't balance each other out. Tartar sauce was tasty, but not enough. The first pint of cider was non-carbonated, but the second was carbonated. Service friendly.

Quiet gastro pub near Temple Pier. We were here on a Sunday, early afternoon. Ideal for what we needed. Quiet drink before heading off to our main event on the River. Didn't stay long enough for food but it's well recommended by people we know who were there before us. Can imagine it's very busy during the week because of its location but worth it if the bar staff are as welcoming as the weekend staff.

Lovely old pub but completely spoilt by the loud thumping music which wasn't at all in keeping with the surroundings. Definitely wouldn't return.

Visited as a tourist on Sat.31.08.24. With family. As an ex- landlord I was impressed greatly by the staff's attitude, particularly the manager/owner? In a full house with ever-changing customers throughout 6 hours, Nobody waited, the politeness and service levels were far above average, and all products looked superb. I drank Guinness on a par with that served in an establishment owned by a member of the Guinness family. Like silk. I really did not want to depart. Clancy Adams.(author) Ely. Cambs.

The George has some of the friendliest most attentive service in London. Beautiful traditional looking pub, has a great beer selection and spirits. Didn't try the food, but definitely next time!. Friendliest bartender 👌

The Sunday roast pork belly is just too enjoyable. The skin is very crispy and the pork belly itself is surprisingly very tender. The gravy is also very good with the pork. However, the apple sauce is a bit different than my expectation and I guess it is just not my type. I would prefer the pork belly alone better. The range chicken is a bit pity. The skin is again very crispy and brilliant, but the meat itself is a bit too dry. Comparing to the pork belly, this is definitely not a satisfying roast. Nevertheless, I would still recommend their pork belly and would love to try their sirloin of beef if I got a chance.

This is the last stop of our small group (Not so small with 15 people) of London Historical pub tour we booked via Viator! I just love the half timber house that is a such time stamps for the city! We enjoyed the beer we ordered but the kitchen was closed already when we arrived. So we may have to come back again to enjoying the full experience of this pub!

Excellent time at The George. We called last minute on a Sunday afternoon & asked if they could accommodate 8 with a dog. Quick reply & friendly service from the guy behind the bar. Starters of scallops were well appreciated & roasted dinners were great. Would return, if able!

I didn't eat here but have had an amazing roast dinner in the past. Beer choice was fairly ordinary but better than some places, I had a Jubel peach beer, which is nice but I cannot have too many. Service friendly. It's a good pub, and I need to eat here again at some point.

Nice traditional pub with great service

I went to this place by chance, but it was great. The staff is very friendly and the ale is delicious. I had a Sunday roast and it was all clean. It was the most delicious food I had during my trip to London.

The George is a nice pub that has a traditional look to it as exemplified by the wood panelling. It is long and narrow with ample seating and a dining room upstairs. (I did not try the food but the pub has a good reputation for food). They had a large selection of drinks, over 2 dozen whiskies and 9 cask drinks, including one cider. I opted for a very nice Tomothy Taylor at just over £6. Despite being in a prime location opposite the law courts the pub was quiet at 4pm on a Wednesday afternoon. The service was excellent and I liked the self pour iced water at the bar. For the less mobile the steepish steps down to the toilets may be somewhat tricky. I really liked this pub and will certainly be returning.

I cannot recommend this place highly enough. We dropped in there to get out of the rain before deciding where to eat before a shoe and ended up staying a couple of hours for food and drinks. The staff were very friendly and made us feel comfortable and created a lovely atmosphere. We were even permitted to sample the lager and the staff ensured our group had no allergies. The food arrived quickly and was delicious. The staff provided efficient table service making our visit very pleasant. I would definitely go again and will be recommending to my friends and family.

Nice pub... good beer selection

Nice pub opposite the Courts, busy for early Sunday evening. Good selection of beers, and the food that past us looked good. The first drink took a while to get (either too busy or not enough staff on the bar) but thereafter barman was very attentive preempting the need for a 2nd 😉

Just popped in for a pint (no food, so i can't rate it but smells great), 12.45, plenty of seats but quite a few already here and enjoying the food and drink. 8 pumps (6 ales, 2 ciders - i went for the Brockley Pale Ale) so if you enjoy a journey through some different types and flavours, you should come here for sure.

Fabulous service and food. We really enjoyed the steak, burgers, and fish & chips. Our service was great as well.

Nice Sunday roast here at The George, potatoes were incredible. Also got the scotch eggs which were fantastic. Really liked the setting, felt historical but not old or dusty.

Went for Sunday roast with family who was visiting from abroad. They made the reservation more than a month before, for 5 people. We called to add one more person a few days before, which they said was perfectly fine. However when we got there, the staff told us it was only for 5. I told them we called and they said it was fine, but the staff seemed super confused. The first table they took us too was right by the kitchen and it only fit 4 people even though the original reservation had been for five, and the fifth chair added was directly in the way of the kitchen entrance and would have blocked the food path. They eventually moved us after waiting around 10 minutes for a fifth chair and sixth chair. It’s just annoying that the reservation had been booked for over a month and we were originally placed somewhere that couldn’t even fit everyone and would be in the way or the servers. When I asked about sitting in the booth they said that it was already reserved. But when we left it still wasn’t even used. As for the food, the pork roast was incredible. Chicken was good and not too dry, and beef was also good. The Yorkshire puddings were overcooked and not great. Everything else was good though. Wide variety of beers and nice atmosphere. I would’ve rated it higher if it hadn’t been for the seemingly poor communication of the staff.

Always a fantastic roast, rate it as one of my favourite pub lunches in Central. Not the cheapest but good quality meats, great roast pots, seasonal veg and good selection of wine. Would recommend!

Wonderful place we stumbled upon! Friendly and attentive service. Great selection of local beers on tap. The breakfast stout was excellent! Venison and duck Scotch egg...amazing! Huge selection of sprits. Would certainly go back!

The food was fantastic and just the perfect serving! The fish and chips was huge and so fresh. The fish pie was to die for, the hint of dill really made it work! Eris was a great server and very attentive!

We had a fantastic Sunday roast here. A little pricier than a normal Sunday pub roast, but extremely worth it. Portions were generous and delicious. Vegetarian/vegan options too.

Beautiful pub, but the bartender's rudeness was disappointing. Waited at the bar for at least 5 minutes with no service, then when he finally arrived, he seemed apathetic and cranky and asked us to wait again before taking our order. We left for another pub as soon as we finished.

Nice discovery of this PUB!! Amazing fish and chips and great bottles. A warm welcome. For those who would like to take a look, note that here you order drinks and food directly at the bar, you do not come and take your order at the table, which can be surprising when you come from France.

We held our wedding reception here in May 2024. We highly recommend The George to host a wedding or any special occasion. From when we first made the booking till the end of the night, the staff looked after us very well, were kind, polite and paid attention to the little details. Our elderly guests were looked after very attentively. All dietary requirements were catered to. The staff were flexible about all special arrangements and requests. The food was absolutely excellent and the canapés were plentiful. Our only small quibble was that the music cut out a few times, for which The George apologised and assured us they would upgrade their system. We had a perfect wedding reception. Highly recommended.

Decent pub serving standard drinks. Nice ally way to drink from too. Staff are pretty friendly too. Open till late. I didn't eat there but people who have say the food is really good. Right next to chancery lane station too

We had a massive group booking here for sisters hen meal. It was fabulous - everyone was thrilled with the service and the food. We all really enjoyed it! Everything was on time, prompt and delicious. Drinks served quick too! We had some extra dessert orders to our pre ordered menu and they were able to accommodate those which was lovely! Highly recommend for group bookings. Our server Aditya was great! It was about £60 per person for 3 courses + drink

We had a splendid Sunday roast beef lunch in this historic pub right across from the Royal Courts of Justice. We got a warm welcome and decided to eat on the more casual ground floor than the more restaurant style upper floor. The food was top notch. It’s a special place that we will return to and recommend.

Few dishes, very good, superb pub

The service was dreadful. Can't order drinks first then food after if you're having a meal. Unapologetically unaccommodating for allergies. However, full credit to the chefs for the duck and venison scotch egg was among the greatest things I've ever eaten. The roast was fairly middling, but the portion size was fantastic. If anything quite overpriced, but definitely not extortionate

Away from the hustle and bustle of the west end, bordering the city and directly opppsite The Royal Courts of Justice. Beautiful oak panelled public house from the 17th century. A large selection of local craft beers on draught. Smiling and welcoming staff from start to finish. Very high standard of food, we ordrered scotch eggs and fish n chips and it was devine, fresh cod in a light and crisp batter, homemade mushy peas and homemade tartare sauce, the chips were good too. All in all a very good experience. I enjoyed watching the flocks of beer tasting-pub crawl groups meandering in every half hour, they brought a good atmosphere to the place.

Spent Easter Sunday with my friend in this pub. The Sunday Roast here was amazing, the peach&almond tart and chocolate pudding also!! But unfortunately, there was not enough staff so it took us some time to be seated and served. Besides that, everything was perfect.

We stopped in this pub while we were exploring London. It's quite a large open place, but cozy at the same time. The service was friendly. We didn't eat but had a couple points which were very nice. There were lots of tables that were reserved and this was a Sunday, so if you're going to eat then, I suggest reserving.

We popped in the George Sunday lunchtime to rest our feet whilst doing the tourist thing. The look of the pub from outside was what drew us initially, the look of the pub inside the door was olde worldly typical old pubby. Very nice looking, tables clean and well laid out, lovely looking bar and a friendly greeting. We sat there for about an hour having a couple of drinks each before moving on and so had the opportunity to observe the staff interact with other customers. Firstly the barman (fella with the white beard, really sorry didn’t get his name) he personified what you want in bar staff. Chatty, friendly, polite, knowledgeable, barman’s memory for drinks/faces. Excellent. The drinks we had were reasonably priced and we watched different selections of food being delivered to other customers. All were ordered and delivered in good time and in a professional manner. We saw 2x roast dinners, a burger and fish and chips delivered and all smelt and looked delicious. We would definitely return for food next time. A nice thing, the lady next to us dropped a knife, the staff member was over to pick it up before the lady could get off her stool, took it away and on a tray, brought a new one straight back. It was a nice touch and seemed the norm. It was a lovely pub, we would definitely return if in the area. In fact we would make a special detour if we were in the area and plan to have food next time. An excellent visit.

My wife and I enjoyed perfectly cooked pork and beef, accompanied by an affordable and palatable bottle of Tempranillo. The background music was slightly intrusive but not unpleasant. Our table had been cleaned, but the surface was slightly sticky. Overall, we enjoyed the occasion and look forward to visiting again.

A large pub opposite the Royal Courts of Justice. They do a very good pint of Timothy Taylor's, with several other quality beers also on tap. Although I didn't eat there, from what I observed the food looked good.

The menu options were not good on the day I went, very dark and dull interior.

Erris was fantastic, he went out of his way to offer a birthday cake and candle for my partner's birthday! Wonderful food and staff and a hearty atmosphere.

What a great pub - such a rarity in central London! The food was great, it's a lovely building and the staff were fantastic - every one of them was warm, friendly, attentive and a pleasure to be served by, a real credit to the place.
