What a disappointing evening. Had been so looking forward to eating at the iconic Jeremy Lee’s restaurant in Dean Street but ended up feeling like a naughty school girl! The food was so delicious until I had some slightly under cooked cod - it had mostly been lovely and flaky but was a bit gelatinous, sinewy and undercooked in the middle, and I had left this bit on my plate. It was no big deal and I explained this when they cleared the table. I hadn’t asked for a refund or said I wouldn’t pay, however, I was startled some time later to be reacquainted with my leftovers by a server trying to explain that this is apparently how the chef chooses to cook his fish. My uneaten food had been brought back out of the kitchen for all to see like I was some naughty school girl who hadn’t finished her dinner! The server continued to explain until I was left saying how uncomfortable he was making me feel. They said they wouldn’t charge for the dish and would we like to go for a free drink in the members’ bar - no thanks! Really don’t expect to be grilled like that in any restaurant but was so disappointed to feel like this here. Must just say, the chicken pie is to die for though and our original server was an absolute peach! 😅

Lamentablemente, no volveré.

What a great restaurant! My wife and I visited while in London, and found the food, decor, and ambience just perfect for a comfortable, romantic night out. As others have mentioned, we loved the smoked eel sandwich as an appetizer. I tried the pheasant, having never had it before, with pomme frites and found it to be very flavorful, though slightly dry. It was enhanced with red cabbage and a bitter lettuce, an unusual, surprising melange--but it worked wonderfully and was delicious. My wife tried the chicken pie with mashed potatoes: both excellent. The chicken pastry was very thin, but perfectly cooked. The flavor of the mash was enhanced with swede (rutabaga), pumpkin, and herbs, and we both really liked the flavor. Desert consisted of a delicious almond tart with custard, ice cream and cream, while profiteroles came filled with vanilla ice cream which added a suitably sweet ending to our meal. My only caveat is that I prefer chilled whipped cream rather than ice cream in my profiteroles. The food portions were generous, and we were both replete at the end of the meal. Service was excellent from everyone we met. I found it good value for money considering the overall experience. We were lucky to meet and chat with Chef Jeremy Lee while there (your Texas friends). He was warm and friendly to us, cordially answering our questions. We have his cookbook which is very well written and photographed. We'll definitely return on our next visit to try more of his inventive dishes.

What a pleasure! Such a comfortable and welcoming restaurant with a really friendly staff. To be there is like sitting in a nice living room and being provided with perfect food. Every single dish we had was perfect starting with the bread - wonderful sourdough with a perfect crust. Bread as bread should be. The starters, puntarelle with anchovies and the signature dish, the smoked eel sandwich were something to remember, pure, simple, only focussing on the taste and texture. Good food needs nothing more. The main courses, fegato and the pie of the day (turkey and bacon) could not have been better. There is nothing to add, honest dishes with best ingredients balanced in the best way The same with the desserts, buttermilk pudding and blood orange sorbet - a wonderful finish for a wonderful meal. Thank you! Next time we're in London, we have to go there again! Volkmar Pamer, Vienna, Austria

Went there as two couples on a Saturday night. The place is very pretty but the service was not fantastic. They also did not have 2 of the mains which one of them was a pasta so I don't how can you run out of pasta. The food was alright, not great. I find the whole experience on par with general Soho House vibes, overrated, overpriced and underwhelming. Also because the restaurant is under their bar, there's constant vibrations and sounds coming from over your head. It was a let down unfortunately.

Interesting restaurant with some nice dishes but left feeling it was missing the X factor. Perhaps i don’t appreciate fine British cuisine as much. I had the smoked eel sandwich which they are seemingly well known for. It was very tasty and quite unique. For main I had the hake which was very good too. Perhaps the service impacted our experience as we waited a long time to order and to receive food. We also felt the service was quite basic and not worth the 13% service charge they add. We paid 152£ for two courses each and a cheap bottle of wine which felt quite expensive. As much as we enjoyed the food, we would probably not come back as it lacked a wow factor. PS: restaurant feels pretty anti-vegan, not much plant based dishes.

We had a tremendous lunch at Quo Vadis. Everything was excellent from the welcome at the front desk, to the table, food and service. Delicious starters of chicken, cep, carnage and bacon terrine and chicken livers with bitter leaves sage and walnuts. The chicken veloute pie was one of the best pies we’ve ever eaten and the whole partridge with braised cabbage, onion and mustard jam was also delicious. The short crust pastry on the pie was delicious and inside it was filled with chicken. The pomme frites were also top notch. We could only share a pudding as we were very full, but the brown bread ice cream with chocolate sauce was both unusual and tasty. The service from Fabian was excellent. He was knowledgeable about all the dishes on the menu and ensured lunch was served at a lovely leisurely pace despite the restaurant being fairly quiet.

We went for a pre-theatre meal and everything served to us was just delicious- from the bread to the starters through to mains, wine and dessert. The eel sandwich is a must-try of course (it was much better than I was expecting- probably one of the best starters I've had in the capital). The pie was packed full of deliciousness and was quite hearty. The other mains and sides were all expertly handled and thoroughly enjoyable. Service was friendly, unpretentious and relaxed and the general atmosphere was altogether comfortable and charming, reflecting the character and history of the place rather nicely. As with many, Quo Vadis was on the list for a long time and we eventually booked for a special occasion. Unfortunately we were incredibly disappointed and it did not live up to the hype. We got the pork terrine which was more like parsley terrine with some pork. There was far too much parsley. The pie was nice but the sauce was incredibly watery and would have preferred a thicker sauce. The sides were also disappointing with the potato and pea salad having far too much mustard. Also to note our waitress was really brusk, she rolled her eyes when we said we had a voucher and got annoyed that we had spilled some food on the table. It was incredibly awkward. All in all I have to say it was quite a disappointing experience and unfortunately won't be recommending to friends and family.

We arrived at this longstanding institution after a some fantastic jazz nearby. The restaurant decor seemed welcoming with its bright colours and the staff were very friendly in showing us to our table for 6. The place felt relaxed but with a pleasant hubbub of conversation as a background. The menu had an odd mix of things on it but I chose the much recommended smoked eel sandwich starter and pie of the day (chicken), both were really excellent. Some of others were cheekily served vegetable soup instead of the fish soup ordered (as they had run out). The head waiter smoothed this over by apologising graciously (as he should have done!) and refusing to charge for starters. None of this mattered we all had a great time and left feeling happy.

There are a lot of stories and history to this place and there is also a members only section of the club. With such an interesting profile, a visit seemed worthwhile. I feel this place has a Moulin Rouge feel (maybe due to the colour tone). Table arrangement is a bit intimate but comfortable. I started off with the whole artichoke vinaigrette (which I kind of regretted a bit) but with hindsight, probably the famous smoked eel sandwich should have been a better choice (I thought the eel sandwich was a full main course, that's why I didn't order it). I was looking forward to have the pie but was told it was a beef pie that evening. As I do not take beef, I opted for the lamb rump. The lamb rump was in fact very tender (surprisingly) and that brought my mood back. It also went well with the red wine I ordered. The meal was finished off with a creme brulee, which was a bit different from the usual version (it didn't have that burnt crunchy top. Strange but maybe that's their interpretation of the dessert, I didn't bother to find out. Why I said "brought my mood back" was because, during the meal, I saw the guest (also a solo diner) next to me having the exact courses I was planning to order, the smoked eel sandwich and the pie. To my surprise, the pie didn't looked like a beef pie as it had a white meat filling. So, I had a casual chat with him and found out the menu had changed half way through. At that moment, I thought the waiter could have been more informed and suggested that I could have the chicken pie as an option. Will I return for the eel sandwich and the chicken pie? Maybe, if I do not have other priorities.

Given this policy, I believe I should be compensated for my time and the Uber expenses incurred due to the restaurant's closure. It is unfortunate for such an establishment to act so irresponsibly. I’d been looking forward to a meal here for many years and after our experience I had to wonder why. The food was mediocre and that’s being kind. We thought we were off to a good start, as the mackerel beetroot rhubarb and fresh horseradish hit all the right notes. The fish was lightly pickled, as were the other elements, each done in a slightly different brine, and it was fun, playful and tasty. The rest of the meal was a mess. A boiled artichoke was simply plunked on a plate and served with a thick vinaigrette. This is something we do at home all the time, but getting the inedible choke out was a real chore with a fork and dull knife- who wants to fight with their food at these prices? Mains were both hugely disappointing. A tough bit of sliced lamb rump was served with an oily mint sauce which didn’t do a thing for the dish. My pie of rabbit and Guinea fowl was full of bone. The sauce inside the pie was not creamy and rich but rather a very thin broth. While the flavour of the broth was good, it just didn’t belong underneath a crust. When I questioned the server he said that if a pie contains either rabbit or Guinea fowl, traditionally it’s served this way. I have to wonder why. We had some just okay drinks to start, and a glass of very ordinary Champagne with the mains. Though we were really looking forward to desserts which sounded delicious, we knew at this point they probably wouldn’t be so asked for the cheque. The room is nice and service was okay, but the food was inexcusable at this price. Sadly it seems like a tourist trap- the best thing about it? The cute menus.

We decided to visit as thinking of joining the Club, and first impressions were very promising. Charming staff, delicious, well balanced food and a lovely calm atmosphere, mercifully uninterrupted by the loud thumping music which has ruined so many recent restaurant experiences. We had a quick look at the Club premises above and discovered the members' restaurant impossible to talk in, due to - loud, thumping music! So we won't be joining, but we will go back to the ground floor restaurant.

Had to edit a previous review so guess it’s been 4 years since I was last here! Food and wine was great as always, but have to say I do miss the old dining room with the iconic stained glass window! The stand out about today’s experience I have to say was the service! Previously it’s always been very efficient but I’m afraid a little clinical (the quality of the food always made up for the lack of true connection and warmth). Today there was a difference, great warmth, connection and efficiency by Lydia who served me. I was too immersed in my book to engage in conversation, but she was incredibly attentive, always engaging and always greeting you with the most disarming smile. A true hospitalitarian! Thank you Lydia!

Had a wonderful dinner at Quo Vadis this evening. The food was so good: inventive and creative, but balanced and delicious as well as exciting and new. Our server, Fabian, made it a really special dinner. He looked young through my 63 year old eyes, but he was a seasoned pro. I think if what we had been looking for was structure and formality, he would have delivered. However, as this was our first time here and my wife and I have no dietary restrictions and like just about everything, we asked Fabian to work with us to assemble a sampling that would give us a taste of what Quo Vadis does best. He delivered the goods. He was warm, engaging, confident and knowledgeable. A good reminder to the owners that what separates a good meal from a great one is this level of service.

Sadly I must recommend to skip Quo Vadis. The service was friendly but disastrous. They were out of many things and kept realising it progressively as the evening went along. Drinks took 45 minutes to arrive from when we first sat down, and didn't even arrive together. Then they couldn't manage to course out our food so we ended up with too many dishes all served together that went cold before we could manage to eat them. Had to beg for the bill 3 times. For a dinner with very light drinking (1 drink per person), bill was £280. Which is a lot to spend to be badly served. The smoked eel sandwich was amazing. Get one to go and eat it on the street? Then go elsewhere.

Quo Vadis has evolved from French food cuisine into an Italian influenced menu. The food is excellent; the restaurant is wonderful for friends and families. The restaurant has a beautiful look that is pleasing for all customers. Quo Vadis easy to find. We loved Quo Vadis, it's a wonderful place for couples to dine. By the way, there is a wide choice of wine for diners.

Imagine refined British cuisine in a quiet place in Central London. I was surprised at how elegant this restaurant was despite its location. Outside, the restaurant is quite loud and lively from the neighbouring bars, but inside the restaurant, it feels like you've popped yourself over to Mayfair. The first thing I noticed was how decorative the menu is. They have a variety of options for all diets. We chose a mixture of fish and meat. Their seafood was delicious. The meats were seasoned well, but the smoked eel sandwich was my favorite. Overall, it's a high-quality London restaurant. All the dishes were up to par, but I didn't quite find anything that would urge me to come back quickly.

Old school legendary place with hearty food, some modern takes on traditional British food, with an extensive (and not cheap) wine list. Food was top notch, loved the pie of the day (game). Service was good but not exceptional, for example when we went to the loo between courses they brought out the next course and left it on the table rather than waiting till we were both sat down. Sommelier was very knowledgeable.

Elitist, exclusive, arrogant, full of Boris Johnson types etc, basically everything I hate in a restaurant BUT its still worth a visit for the experience and the food which is pretty decent modern British.

The new refurb seems to have done away with the stained glass windows which is a shame. There is much more space though and it’s very comfortable, just lacks some of the old character. Serving staff were uniformly excellent and pleasant. Chef even shook hands! The main problem is that the two hour turnaround for tables is too short to enjoy a relaxed meal. We arrived 20 mins early but were reminded several times that the table was needed back. No time for coffees and liquors! Food was tasty and most enjoyable without any fiddly fine dining pretensions. If only we’d had longer to eat it!

Conveniently located in Soho, this place is a great find if you fancy Modern British cuisine. We tried a few starters, and they are all very good. We had pie and skate for the main course they were a bit underwhelming. The pie crust came a tad too hard. I appreciate the generous portion of the capers that came with the skate, but the fish was pretty much soaked in the oil. Overall good experience though.

Pretty average. Food was ok, nothing exciting. Service was poor, they seemed to lack enough staff so everything took longer than it should have done. The private members bar lacked any sort of atmosphere and when we were there had only one person making and serving the drinks so only managed to have one cocktail in an hour

I have been twice now and been disappointed on both occasions by various elements of the food. The eel sandwich is great but be warned, it’s extremely peppery. I also really love the pistachio cake with rhubarb, this is the best dessert they do. However, it goes downhill from here… The first time I visited I ordered the cured cod, courgette and salmoriglio. It was extremely bland. This week I went with a friend to order all of the puddings and try the legendary sticky toffee pudding. As someone who lives and dream by sticky toffee, I was expecting great things from Quo Vadis, especially considering I have heard it’s one of the best in London but I left truly heartbroken. I judge a sticky toffee pudding as it is, and therefore asked for the cream and custard on the side but when it arrived there was NO toffee sauce?! It was so dry. Yes, I am sure people will say but that’s what the custard is for but custard is not sticky toffee pudding. They are too separate things and I didn’t have the heart to tell our sweet waitress how upset I was. I will admit that the custard is good though, so that’s something at least. Also, the sorbet was absolutely fantastic and is definitely the superior dessert on the menu. Lastly, I have to share my disappointment in the trifle which had a very strange flavour that neither my friend nor I could place. An odd bitter after taste and excessive amount of custard and cream. I love Jeremy Lee and will continue to admire him from afar on instagram but I do not think I’ll return to Quo Vadis. It’s expensive and has let me down on both occasions. The staff are very sweet and it’s not their fault at all, the food just hasn’t met my expectations.

Really average restaurant, not made to feel welcome in any way. Service strange would be the word to use. Starters - mine was pear, Stilton, bitter leaves etc was very nice. My husbands goose rillettes seemed off? Mains we both chose Chicken pie which was ok. Felt like we were wading through thick porridge and eventually we had to give up as it became inedible. Decided against a desert as preferred to leave. Not the best experience and very sad as we had both looked forward to visiting this restaurant.

A group of us went in November and all ended up ill. The common denominator was the oysters, though Quo Vadis denied any responsibility. Fair enough and they were good enough to offer a complimentary meal up to £150 (original cost was in excess of £500). I went with my husband for said complimentary meal and we were rushed from the very beginning. We’d not even been there an hour and a half and were told they’d need our table back before the stipulated two hours. What a weird experience when they were supposedly trying to make us feel welcome. Sorry, I just don’t get this place. I was a returning customer after numerous visits following a bout of food poisoning - though they accepted no responsibility - and made to feel like a bloody nuisance. The lack of customer care/service is an absolute joke. Owner Jeremy Lee may be a celebrity chef but these places seem to rely on their reputation when maybe they need to take care of the people coming through the doors. I won’t be back.

The Guinness was really delicious and it was a pub with a very local atmosphere. I think I was able to enjoy the local atmosphere because there were not many tourists.

This wine bar is one of those rare finds in the heart of Leicester Square, tucked away between two corner shops, it’s almost invisible to the average passerby. Locals might struggle to spot it, and for tourists, it’s practically impossible, which is exactly why it remains uncrowded, even on a Saturday evening. The wine selection is good but the experience is slightly let down by the glassware, which doesn’t quite do justice to the wines. The cheese selection looked promising, but unfortunately, about half the options were unavailable when we visited, which was disappointing. The ambiance is intimate but leans a bit on the outdated side, charming in a nostalgic way, though it could benefit from a refresh. That said, if you’re after a quiet, low-key spot to enjoy a glass (or a bottle) away from the chaos of central London, it’s a worthwhile stop.
