We stayed at the hotel for one night, the room was clean and the breakfast was quite nice. The actual pub was a mess, very run down and depressing. We were booked for two nights but came home after the first day ...... would not recommend this hotel.

We were made very welcome by the staff who were friendly and helpful. The twin room we had was very comfortable. Remember this is a 17th century coaching inn and the stairs are steep. So perhaps not a good place if you struggle with stairs .

We thought we would have lunch here on the way back from a Covid jab. The place seemed almost empty and we had a job to find any staff. When he appeared we were informed there was no food, no chef - nothing. This used to be a good place for lunch but we had to go elsewhere and probably won't bother to return

We did not know Crewkerne, booked this as it looked ok and we needed a bed for the night after going on a local distillery tour. We started by arriving and having not been told there wasn’t a hotel carpark we had to wait for a space in the closest public carpark, our taxi was waiting so no time to check in. After a delightful lunch and tour we came back to The George around 4pm, a young man checked us in, he was polite but could not print a receipt for us as there was no ink for the printer. He then told us our room was outside across the alley, in a door between two shops and up some stairs, we trundled over, the door was tricky to open the hall way stinking of cat and dirty, the stairs grim with a covering of flaking paint. The room, again with a tricky lock, was clean but very small. The bathroom very hot due to the towel rail. We went out into Crewkerne and spent a very nice evening at a different establishment. We got back about 11pm, the noise in the alleyway was very loud and went on for some time. The bed was very uncomfortable. Breakfast was ok. The service not great, the dining room was very tired and standing making our toast next to a ladder and a Henry Hoover was unexpected! Our cooked breakfast was well cooked and hot but of the catering pack variety. Things were not cleared from the table and I was given a teabag in hot water then a pot of tea made in a grubby teapot. Another gripe, 80’s soft rock Muzak played loudly is not my idea of a good Sunday morning soundtrack. The staff were all polite but very young and looked grubby. We were then asked to leave our table by 10 as they wanted to set up for the lunchtime carvery. Will we return? No.

Stayed here for 1 night with a friend. Booked a twin room which was a good size with perfectly adequate en-suite facilities. Toiletries provided although the hairdryer was not brilliant, probably better to take your own. Staff we encountered were all friendly and helpful, breakfast was good, full English cooked to order with a choice of cereals toast and fruit. What more could you want. All in all a reasonable price room and I would definitely stay here again if in the area.

The George is steeped in history as a coaching inn for centuries at the centre of Crewkerne. Parts have undergone refurbishment but the front bar is still rather old fashioned. We popped in for lunch & enjoyed a turkey curry & fish & chips. Quirky decor including portraits that had dog heads & a wallful of clocks. (The proforma won't let me attach pix)

Arrived at restaurant; but were waiting for another couple to arrive.. we felt rushed even though we were the only diners... menu was very limited.. there was no lasagne or steak and kidney pie' also ran out of blue Minnie cheese.. three of us had Gannon steak and one fish and chips. Meals were k Luke warm and tasteless. The fish meal was warm and tasted awful.. the staff were friendly enough but very persistent.. which made us feel uncomfortable.. I'm sure they had a bigof offer on peas we were over run with them.. the dessert board was disappointing no cream .. couldn't wait to leave. When we said no desserts the waitress snatched the board away.. asking us if we wanted the bill which she brought back promptly.. no mention of coffee either. ...... we won't be going again... heard the white Hart is so much better.

Stayed here overnight for a wedding locally, was surprised to be allocated the George suite on arrival which I must say was great. Large in size with a cracking bathroom. Bed was super comfortable so if all the other rooms are similar it's worth it for the beds and space. The downside though was the poor quality breakfast, I can't help but feel the George staff need to sharpen their game up a little. Start to use local produce and provide your guests with a decent breakfast to gain the better reviews.

Very disappointed. We have been here before a couple of times n the past as we have family in the area. On a recent visit we decided to go again. The restaurant has been refurbished by the new owners and looks better. However the food was not good, pretty disappointing. My husband and brother were both shocked by the meagre portion sizes being hungry fellows. The pies appear to be cheap shop bought pies which are taken from the freezer and heated in a microwave which are served with about 8 chips. I do hope this is just teething problems. We were given a discount on our bill which was a nice gesture, however we won't go back

Visited The George optimistically for food. The optimism was short lived, we were shown to the empty resteraunt, 7 in total. Some of us were handed lunch menus, i say some because although there were 10+ tables only 4 of us recieved menus. Looking at said menu was underwhelming, not spoilt by choice in the first place the menu was once again limited due to lack of produce despite the butcher stood in the hall with a leg of lamb (this was not on the menu). We ordered our food off the limited and dull menu, if i were to describe said menu beige would be colour of choice. Sat for what felt etwrnity waiting for our food, numerous patrons walked passed to use the facilities....were hands washed? Who knows? An hour or more passed, sometime during thos we were questioned on our order. As there were 5 orders and 7 people waiting. On correction of this matter our food finally arrived, delivered by an obnoxious and disgruntled employee. They were delivered with a rude "slam" one by one. Waiting at least 5 minutes between each plate, im no chef but i could only guess that gammon would normally be cooked at the same time if you had more than one order from table?? Once the first dishes had cooled down the others were brought to the table, during this time the angry waitress managed to throw my chips savagely on the floor. Also closely grazing a friends face whilst delivering mayonaise to the table. Said sauce appeared within a time frime of what appeared to be years with half of the meal already being eaten. The microwave "ding" was slightly concerning but was overlooked due to massive hunger, boredome and lack of atmosphere. The small portion was quickly devoured, not realising that "mains" meant "appetiser" in this establishment. The offer of desert was declined, not due to lack of hunger but lack of time pacience. When the time came to pay for the bill, the balance was begrudgingly settled with cash upon the table. Id have rather spent my hard earned money on flushing it down the nearby toiletts. When getting ready to leave a second bill was hurredly delivered, explaining that the origonal was incorrect as it did not contain the missing meals as previously stated. At this point i was at my wits end and quite simply just wanted to leave never to return again.

After watching the refurbishment of the George Inn we thought we would drop in for a Sunday Lunch. The restaurant was full and we picked seating in the bar and paid a very reasonable £7.95 for a Sunday lunch. This place is a bit dated, so much so it's rather like walking into a time warp. I visited with a friend recently on what was described as a "Pie Night" and have to say that the food was excellent if a little basic. The portions of pie could have been larger but were nonetheless adequate, but a larger choice of veg would have improved the meal over all.The coffee was served in a cafetiere but there was not enough for each of us to have a second cup.Whilst I would rate this place as no more than average, I have to say that it has no pretensions about itself and I would definitely visit again.

Stayed here for 2 nights for a friends wedding nearby. (Haselbury mill- about 4 mins drive). £70 a night. It's got that quintessential 70s fawlty towers feel to it, with horrendous patterned carpets and embossed plated signage- but, despite the drab, it was spotlessly clean. We had the twin room, as, on booking, it was all that was left- but, we were pleasantly surprised to see that this was a double bed and a single bed. We also had the non-en suite bathroom, but this was literally just opposite the door to the room, and had its own key lock that you're given so its only you using it. Again, very clean, just needs a face lift, as had one of those minging black loo seats on it you find in public loos. The shower was awful, it was so weak I'd have got wetter standing in the rain, but hey ho, it's an old building and luckily I'd allowed enough time to shower for twice as long! The bed was uncomfortable, quite a thin mattress, which didn't bother me as I'm quite small, but my bf is 15 stone, so just felt the boards underneath. I slept well though- just don't expect to if you're heavy. Sink/tea/coffee facilities in room, and hairdryer, all worked well. We were woken by a lorry in the street outside at 7.30am (bank holiday Monday) which was annoying as I was hungover from the wedding... But I guess you're in a town location. Go to a b&b in the middle of no-where if you want total silence. Breakfast was standard fayre- I had the veggie breakfast which I thought was lovely. We met the chef who's charming, all the staff are very friendly :)All in all, a nice place to stay if you're in the area, but you're not paying 5*, so don't expect 5*!

First time in this pub for a few years. Always a good cheap meal to be had and nothing has changed. Pleasant and clean pub and we three enjoyed the fish and chips. Pleasant staff and good tasting food. Well presented and the puddings were tasty, perhaps a bit pricey though. However an interesting experience and one we would perhaps repeat at a later date.

I was hoping to grab a light bite or a sandwich but sadly we were unable to get any food as they were only serving meals that were priced more than £20.
