Very disappointed with our sandwich/roll at lunchtime, small roll with little filling. Expensive for what we add, drink prices high and a service charge added. Waiting staff pleasant. We used to visit several times a week before covid but I am afraid to say we will not visit again.

Went out for Sunday roast, great choice! Knew nothing about the pub apart from searching on the internet, amazing Sunday Roast, prompt, friendly service, nice atmosphere. We would definitely go back there again, the other half wants the sticky toffee pudding again and our dog loved the Paw Star Dog Martini when we got in 😁 Highly recommend stopping off here and it making a point of going here.

Met with friends and was looking for somewhere about half way for both of us and The George was ideal although we had no idea what to expect except it did look as if the garden was lovely and well kept. Well how lucky we chose there as it was so enjoyable the ladies who served us were so pleasant and couldn't have been more helpful service was very prompt and the food just what we wanted ,we shared a ploughmans with a side order of cheesy chips and our friends were equally impressed with their meals. we look forward to returning in the evening soon and sample another excellent meal. Its extremely dog friendly and the grounds are perfect for a lovely family get together

First time back for a long while as a birthday treat , received starters and then waited almost an hour to be told sorry they had changed shifts and they were not told we were sitting in conservatory . No one checked to make sure our meals were ok or if we wanted more drinks , had we not of gone to the bar to ask for more drinks we could of still been waiting all night , ordered dessert it came out with another apology no shortbread biscuits to go with posset as chef had not been made aware they had run out substituted with sponge fingers not quite shortbread and still paid same price , we were told would take a drink off of bill only to have it added back on by a service charge . The lady was very apologetic but quite honestly the service was far from good .

The George has been off my radar for a while after a couple of disappointing meals a couple of years back, but a pal & I were looking for a venue locally other than 4 London Rd, & so decided to pop along to Finchdean. Quite a transformation with regard to the Menu, with Lamb dishes, Chicken Schnitzel, Belly Pork amongst others. I opted for my "Litmus Test" grub & ordered the House-Burger, which was deffo one of the best i've had locally for some time, in terms of flavour, the size (chunky!) & the sauce served with it. Pal opted for the Schnitzel, which I got to try as it was a monster portion & that was delicious too. Nice selection of Real Ales on tap (I opted for "Landlord" - lovely) Also had a starter & dessert, the Lamb Koftas deserve a mention as they were excellent, & the Lemon Posset was very good too. Super Evening with polite, attentive service, & The George is officially back on the radar...

We found this little country pub years ago and loved it for its rural charm, where are dogs were always welcome. It’s recently had a change of ownership and wow, we were super impressed. We had such a warm welcome when we arrived and the excellent service continued throughout our meal. We went for the Wednesday Supper Club, the food was exceptional, just delicious. Highly recommend a visit, we’ll be back again soon, for sure.

Recently taken over by the owners of the Anglesey Arms in Chichester, this is sure to become a local watering hole for us, being in easy walking distance. We took lunch on Good Friday and the food was as good as the Angelesy - we all had lamb, and it was very good, complements to the chef and team. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and to be quite honest we were really quite surprised that it was not busier in the resturant.

I have loved The George for many years it’s in a beautiful part of Hampshire and visited lots of times. This lunch, however, was beyond expectations. My friend and I were greeted by a friendly member of staff and opted to eat in the cosy bar area. We both ordered the Pork Belly which was outstanding washed down with a lovely smooth Shiraz. The timings for food were bang on and we were well looked after by Emma and Ella. I cannot wait to visit again to sample more of the menu. I can highly recommend this establishment for friendly, good service, tasty, beautifully presented, food and overall great vibe. Also love the ‘dog friendly’ policy. We used to visit this pub regularly under previous management. They were extremely pleasant and welcoming; what a difference now.We called in at 12 noon Today (bank holiday Monday). The pub opened at 12 and we sat in the beer garden at the back; which I have to say is very nice and an improvement on what was there before. We only wanted 2 coffees (1 x latte and 1 x cappuccino). We waited 25 minutes for these drinks, despite the fact that the pub was EMPTY!When we chased the landlord/lady, they simply told us the young girl serving us was having problems with the coffee machine. No apology and if we hadn’t enquired who knows how long we would have waited. The coffee was actually very pleasant, but completely over priced. For those of you that remember Faulty Towers, this place will be a trip down memory Lane. Very unfriendly management, who (to our amusement/amazement) turned several customers away for food because they hadn’t booked. We counted approximately 6 tables with reserved signs. Left us wondering if they are trying to run the place into the ground. Looking at management responses to to previous comments, we think they maybe. If you like friendly faces and VFM go somewhere else.

We had booked a table but on arrival they were unsure of finding our surname but had a table for five reserved. Our drinks order was fine but after we had ordered our food we were then told there were no prawns for starters and only vegetable spring rolls not meat. The mushroom starter was disappointing after a wait of nearly two hours. There were no burgers so one ordered a pie instead which looked anaemic and as if it had been warmed up in the microwave and the other asked for lamb and beef roast but only one meat arrived. The vegetarian meal and sausage and mash never did arrive! The staff obviously didn’t have a clue as to any organisation and seem to be guessing which table needed what. Because of the disappointment and problems we were offered discounts but enough was enough and we left after paying for drinks only. We have been using this pub for years without any problems but I think they’ll have to pull their socks up if they wish to keep the business going.

We ate here today and booked a table for 5pm with two tired kids that had spent the afternoon at Staunton Farm Park. The staff were super quick to take our order, both for food and drinks and it all came out really fast. The food itself was excellent (much better than your standard pub grub - the spring rolls and mushrooms on ciabatta were amazing!) but what was even better was the extra care and service we received. We mentioned we’d be splitting a meal of ham, egg and chips between the two kids - so they cooked us two eggs, brought an extra plate and made sure that we were looked after. We all cleaned our plates (even the kids), and the server even brought my toddler a bag of sweets with the bill. This is the sort of service that we have missed at pubs, and it’s safe to say we will be going out of our way to return here soon.

The staff were very friendly and COVID guidelines were well implemented. The pub still had a homely and friendly feel and the food was very tasty. My sons had the southern fried chicken burger and “it was the best ever”. They had it without the trimmings as our little boys only like the meat with the bap. My husband and I want for vegetarian dishes and they were also well seasoned and prepared. The puddings - chocolate fudge cake and Belgian apple cake - were fresh and delicious. I had a thatcher cider which I would thoroughly recommend. All in all a lovely pub with a lovely walk. We will come back.

Good for eating outside in the summer (lots of space for kids to run about), and eating in when it's chilly.. proper British pub interior with a conservatory attached, would recommend the roasts.

Good food, good ales and good service ! We've eaten here a couple of times recently and the food is very good and well presented at a reasonable price. Service is great and the atmosphere is what you'd expect from a good village local.

We chose to visit this lovely country Pub with a view to having a drink and Dinner. My Mum is now 90 and can't walk a long distance so we always like to find places with good access of which this place has, On entry the pub has a nice traditional feel to it and friendly welcoming Staff, A short walk through You will find the restaurant/ eating area which is roomy and comfortable . We looked at the menu which is fairly traditional and not over-run with extravagant dishes , Mum decided a full meal felt too much and asked the Waitress for an alternative, at which point we were presented with the bar menu of which we all had a basket meal each and unanimously voted our choices a hit. We were looked after by a young lady called Sam who we must say is an absolute credit to your business. Thankyou .

Well thought I would book a table at The George Inn, but when we arrived they had no clue we were coming... then ordered our meal which was delicious... I returned to the bar to order dessert at 19:55 to be told the kitchen was closed !!! WTF what restaurant closes the kitchen when they have people in the restaurant ??? Disappointed is an understatement, what a fantastic end to my husbands birthday meal ... NOT!!!!

This was my first visit to the George Inn, I was there Friday Night and Saturday during the day for the "Benz on the Green" event. There was a good selection of real ales and the food looked good. Bar staff were friendly and of particular note was the Landlord pulled a pint back off the bar as he was unhappy with the way it looked, swapping it for one from a new barrel.

Brilliant staff, food, menu & prices. No complaints from us at all. Been twice now & thoroughly enjoyed both visits. Quiet weekday lunch & a very busy hectic Sunday lunch. Both times everything superb - cannot fault the place. Really lovely owners & staff. A proper local style pub with really good home cooked food. Of course, you had to wait a while but not that long, who cares as atmosphere there great. Everyone local or otherwise relaxed & friendly. Thank you for giving me a relaxing time when l needed it!

Was greeted by a very friendly bar maid who served us drinks happily , only when the chef/manager realised there was 8 of us not 7 that we booked he became unhelpful and looked like we ruined his night( it was 1730 and pub was practically empty) luckily we never saw him again , food order was taken by a young waitress who was very helpful , food came promptly and was plentiful I ordered ribs but fatty and over cooked but ok!

I am presently working down on the south coast, and have now been to The George in the lovely village of Finchdean about half a dozen times in the past few months - great local friendly atmosphere and superb food and drinks as well - they have even let me stop here overnight in my motorhome on the car park a few times!

The good: The staff are truly amazing. For young staff, they were really attentive and happy to help. The setting is also beautiful, lots of parking and you also have the ability to have a private room for functions. The Prawn cocktail was really lovely, decent size and tasty. Please see the ugly for the bread. The bad: Mix up in orders (even though we had to do a preorder). Food also not available despite doing a preorder! The ugly: Children's starters. Carrot and pepper crudités. No peppers, carrots cooked?! Who serves cooked carrot sticks as a crudité?! Bread. Stale. Must have been cut in the morning and left on the side. This was served with the soup and prawn cocktail. Fish and chips. Fish burnt and small size. Definitely not worth £17. "Triple cooked chips". Definitely not. Some were served cold, not what you'd expect if they were straight out the fryer. Steak. Grisly. Small. Underwhelming. Chicken. Served partially raw. This was refunded in full and starter given for free in fairness. Chocolate brownie. Extremely dark chocolate and crumbly. Not the texture you'd expect for a brownie. I would describe the entire meal as barely adequate. They are advertising their Christmas menu currently. If it carries on like that I genuinely think your Christmas would be ruined! Either that or they half the price of everything as you are paying top whack price for mediocre food. We should have known something wasn't quite right when there were only a few tables at the pub, for a Friday night! I hope it picks up and gets better as it would be such a shame to see the place go. As I said before, the location and staff are great but the chef needs letting go!

Booked a table online, taking a chance on a place to eat we had not eaten before. My wife and I were with another couple and had the following from the menu: Starters; 2x Ham Hock & Cheddar Croquette, Mustard Mayo. 1x Cajun Tiger Prawns, Asian Sauce, Mixed Leaves. 1x Nachos – Sour Cream, Guacamole, Salsa. Mains; 2x Slow Cooked Rack of Ribs, House Made Barbeque Sauce, Fries, Coleslaw (1x half & 1x full) 1x Quesadilla, Toasted Tortilla Wrap with Melted Cheddar, Onion and Peppers, with added Cajun Chicken 1x Cooked Venison Haunch Steak, Chive Mash, Seasonal Vegetables, Port Reduction, Berry Jus. The food was outstanding, all of our food pierced at the table hot and freshly cooked, flavour of all the dishes was fantastic. I had the venison dish and it was exquisite. Staff were very friendly and helpful, with table service and a good knowledge of the menu. We would all definitely return to this pub/restaurant. Food and drinks were reasonably priced.

Tried to have lunch here today. It was lunchtime and with the relatively small choice of meals and snacks available, (breakfast stops at 11:30am) it would have been reasonable to assume that demand could be met. Wrong! With only three quarters of tables occupied, my first choice of meal was unavailable due to a lack of potatoes. So, having had to choose another dish, twenty minutes passed before being informed that an ingredient for that was missing. I found this unacceptable and left having been refunded for the inconvenience of having to put up with such shoddy service. I was not the only complainant and something needs doing to improve service in this establishment.

Staff did their best but the wait was long and when it arrived it was cold and very poor. Been sitting around for awhile so was dried up. Staff did offer replacement but was past it by then. We had 4 tapas plates and it was only the kofta that was worth eating. Very disappointed
