Came for dinner and were very disappointed by the food. Service was good, not many gluten free options (my partner is celiac) but staff were accommodating. The food however was pretty bleak. Not sure if the chef was having an off day or what, as most reviews seem to be positive. I had the chicken souvlaki which had very little chicken, was greasier than a 3am kebab and absolutely drowning in sauce. My partner had the 1/2 chicken which I can only describe as mummified. It looked and tasted like it had been reheated or sat under a heat lamp drying out for hours. Not what you want for almost 20 quid a main...

Me and my wife have just left the George, We stayed for three nights and had a great time. The staff were great, food was lovely.....the room was bright and spaciouswith everything you need. Great location and sure it comes alive in the summer. Locals were all really friendly and the quiz night was fun. Highlight was meeting Mike (the manager) His sense of humor and sarcasm was a breath of fresh air. We will be returning when we come to the area later in the year. 5*

We spent a night at The George and it was really very nice. The inn is on a busy road and although you can hear the traffic from the room, it's not loud. Our room was very nice , we were luckily upgraded to one with a four poster bed which was very comfortable. The room had a good sized TV, Nespresso machine and DAB radio, also a fridge and a charging pad for a phone. There was a problem with the heating when we checked in, but the manager was able to resolve that quickly. We had lunch in the restaurant and the Sunday roast was very good. There is a good selection of beers, including the local Stonehenge brewery. Breakfast was also very good and freshly cooked. The inn is dog friendly and even has a menu for dog treats, a nice touch. Our room could have used some paint touching up, particularly the skirting, but other than that it was a lovely stay and I would definitely recommend it.

Arrived on 18th January 2025 as I heard good things about this pub. We went to a huge pub, and a member of staff did greet us and advised they would be with you shortly. They weren't over busy, but we were advised that they hadn't got any tables but could see there was! We were offered a pub table with stools, but my elderly mother wouldn't have been able to get up on them. Won't return.

Popped in here with my sister passing through decided to see if they had a table available which they did. We had the tapas, we chose two each and they were all absolutely delicious perfect portion sizes, we shared them all. We had the half a creamy hot camembert, creamy mushrooms in a white sauce, calamari, teriyaki chicken pieces and a side of truffle and parmesan fries. The fries tasted amazing as well, all the food was perfectly seasoned and full of flavour. Really friendly and welcoming staff. Would definitely recommend.

We booked an overnight package which included Dinner, Bed & Breakfast with our 2 dogs. We had a room upgrade to a 4 poster room which was very nice and comfortable. We checked in towards the end of lunch service and decided to have a snack lunch & coffee. We ordered 3 different plates of tapas and all were delicious. Whilst chatting to staff we discovered an error had been made by the centralised booking office as the pub was unusually closed for the evening (New Year's Day) so an evening meal wasn't possible. We asked if it was possible to have a salad left in our room which the amazing Manager Mike arranged without quibble. He also left complimentary desserts & a bottle of Prosecco. That was brilliant but it got even better when Mike rang the booking office & got us a £60 refund for the mix up. Breakfast this morning was very good. We cannot speak highly enough of Mike who is extremely professional and personable. He is someone who wants his customers to receive excellent service and he could have done no more. The staff were very welcoming and our 2 little dogs got very spoilt to their delight. We chose this establishment after searching for a dog friendly pub near Longleat and in our opinion we couldn't have chosen anywhere better. The close proximity to Longleat is a real draw for us as we meet up with family annually to visit the Festival of Lights. We highly recommend The George Inn for accommodation and food and despite living in Devon will be visiting again later in the year as their Christmas & Boxing Day menus looked amazing for 2024 so fingers crossed it will be similar for 2025.

Very disappointed with our Xmas day dinner experience. We booked the George based on previous visit when good and service was exceptional. Xmas day was booked for 2 pm as we had 2 young children with us and did not want to mess with their normal eating/sleeping schedules. Upon arrival we were left wandering around looking for someone to check us in eventually told ( only 1 high chair available although booked 2!) And was pointed into a corner table to make our own way over too through a very busy area with tables really close together. After 30 mins we had not been offered Prosecco upon arrival as per Menu so went and ordered drinks from the bar and despite one member of staff ( not dressed for work)coming to ask if we had been seen yet it was an hour and 20 mins before starters arrived . Then Another hour wait for main course ( Not very hot) we eventually got deserts upon the 3rd hour ..By 5.30 we gave up and left because everyone else had left our room and Owner/Manager and smartly dressed lady were clearing tables down we were not offered Coffee and Mince pies although still half tray of pies on side as we left. In my opinion they clearly rammed too many people in all 3 rooms over a 3 hour window and Kitchen staff clearly struggled with keeping up with demand. Will not be going to George again at any busy times.

We paid a large amount of money for the Christmas Day meal of 12 people and unfortunately it wasn’t the best, upon arrival we were supposed to be offered a Prosecco or Buck’s Fizz, ( none offered) so we thought they may come over with some to the table but no they didn’t so obviously everyone wanted a drink so we all had to go to the bar of which we would of done anyway to get a drink but still should of had the Prosecco or Buck’s Fizz on arrival as it says on the menu. We were booked in for a certain time and 50 mins after the sit down time we had to ask if we were getting our appetizer of olives, hummus and bread, yes we will get them for you now, 15 minutes later they arrived, don’t get me wrong I know it was busy but perhaps they had too many people in for the times they booked in or not enough staff, anyway by then we had to ask if we were getting our starters after an hour and a half of the sit down time, surely we shouldn’t of had to ask, if a member of staff had come over and said sorry for the delay then that would of been fine but there was no communication just to let us know, so from the second we got in there we had waited an hour and half for our starters, when we got the starter the starter was lovely but then when it was time for the main then that was a long wait too, not sure how long but it was a long wait again. When the main came it was ok but hardly any gravy, we did ask for more and they said ok we will go and get some but never got it, there was no cranberry sauce and also no sprouts or cauliflower cheese of which was on the menu, we did ask for cranberry sauce but it seemed like they didn’t have any, next was the pudding, we had to ask if we were getting our puddings as we had waited a while again and was told oh sorry we forgot, when the puddings finally arrived we had to ask for more spoons as we had used the spoons for our soup on first course, waited for about 10 mins for the spoons to arrive but then the puddings were nearly cold. Unfortunately most of us had the Christmas pudding which tasted like rubber which all of us thought and didn’t eat much of it, custard was ok tho but cold as had to wait for spoons. After the pudding was the 5th course of coffee and mince pies, we waited, waited and waited for this , we then had to ask twice about this and it still took ages to get them. We are not impatient people and don’t mind a little wait but the timing of waiting we’re not great, we felt abit sorry for the staff as they were working with what they had so it wasn’t the staffs fault, they were very pleasant , I just think it could have been organised better and the communication could have been much better about the delays , we still gave a good tip to the staff though as they were under a lot of pressure on Christmas Day so it wasn’t there fault at all. Sorry for the complaint as we don’t like too but a lot of money was paid out for that meal on Christmas Day and wasn’t acceptable. We went over to the George inn in October for a meal of 9 people and the food was fantastic and the staff were great too so it’s a lovely place to go , just needed more on that big occasion

My girlfriend pre-booked a table for four for a boxing day breakfast at 10am, not really the best welcoming and directed to our table after a weird gender related joke by some guy behind the bar possibly manager. The place was completely empty, we sat down and asked what drinks we wanted and so ordered 4 coffees, it seems to have taken nearly 15 mins to arrive, then we were handed the menu, we ordered three full English breakfasts and one smashed avocado on toast. The sausages were uneatable and absolutely vile, they were a very weird hard textures and kind of like had a snappy over done skin. The eggs, toast, hashbrown and black pudding were OK we had roughly 15 baked beans each and I had to get up and ask for some butter for the toast. The tomatoes and mushrooms for some reason were covered in herbs, oregano I think which we all thought was strange for a english breakfast which is a shame as I Like fried tomato and my girlfriend likes mushrooms. The smoked bacon was OK, a little over salty though. The smashed avocado was like a mushy oily slime and over peppered not very nice at all. We paid just over £64 for this and feel completely ripped off by the service and the poor quality and cooking, we all admit we wish we didn't go and will now in future not be visiting again.

Went here for drinks, tried to ordered food and was told that half of the menu was not available, ordered an item and paid and the girl did not inform us that they were in fact out of that item so we already paid for this and had to get a refund. The guy behind the bar remained very professional in this incident, i think he may be a manager not 100% sure was very apologetic etc which we appreciated, invited us back again for a better experience. Creds to him! The young girl behind the bar was not at all professional and criticised the pub saying something along the lines of it was an embarrassing night. We were all for ordering other items that were available until i heard her say this and it then gave me a bad impression of the pub and made me not want to order. It seemed the night was in a shambles and this comment from your staff confirmed this. I just want to say, if you are having a bad night that is fair enough, it happens and i am sure a lot of customers understand this. The one thing i would say is you should not have staff in this instance the girl behind the bar, making it known to customers the night is going awful and the pub is embarrassing.

Not impressed for a number of reasons. Drinks arrived after 20min wait, one dirty glass and x3 worst tasting diet cokes very watery. Food took ages to arrive, had to chase it up. Approx 50mins from ordering. Offered free drinks by way of apology. Roast meals were OK, some roast potatoes were like lumps of coal, scampi and chips is a very basic plate. Child's menu again super basic and bland looking. Very over priced for what you get. No checkin to see if everything OK or any more drinks. Manager must have had day off place is run by young staff. Other table nearby also complaining on quality of food. Larger tables had food arriving with huge gaps in time, others had finished before they were served. Decor was good but had to swap my chair as first was falling apart. Outside the main door smells of sewage/drains. Gardens were nice. Small pond with a old sun umbrella sunk in it. Won't ever go again. Would not recommend to anyone. Massively over priced. Well below par for the prices being charged.

Chose The George Inn as a midway point to meet family for Sunday lunch, it’s a lovely part of the world and the pub has made a nice feature of a stream through the pub garden. It’s welcome that the place is dog friendly. Unfortunately this is where the positives end, we were warned when we arrived that the wait time for food was 40 mins which is OK on a Sunday really. The app told us 20 mins and in the end it was over an hour. The food is OK but not good enough to match the prices I had roast beef and it was the fattiest I can remember having in a pub. Over £5 for pigs in blankets that turn out to be five basic cocktail sausages. The wasn’t bad it just wasn’t good enough for the price. Service was OK although there was 5 minute wait for cutlery after the food had been delivered. Thankfully we were not served by the young male waiter who kept shoving his hands inside his trousers as he was walking around. All in all you could do worse but you could definitely do better.

Very disappointing visit. Met my daughter for lunch and checked website in the morning for what was available. However when we arrived there was a limited menu from which there were no vegan starters or desserts and only one main course. I did question the starters and they did eventually offer an option. There was no mention of a reduced menu when we made the booking the day before. When my meal arrived the presentation was dreadful. A burger in the middle of an empty plate (no garnish) and I had to ask for the sauce. All the meals were tepid in temperature but mine was too cold to eat so sent back. Our waitress was friendly and helpful but the rest of the staff just didn't seem to care. I didn't want to leave a bad review so went on the chat page and after 24 hours revieved no response despite ite saying average respone time 1 hour. I understand the reduced menu when they are busy but it would have been good business practice to have made a note on the website or even mentioned it when we booked. Shame as was there in December and had a good time and they were much busier. P

Stopped off here on our way to Cornwall, we found a reasonably priced room not far off the A303. Great location, close to Longleat Safari Park, good fresh food, very comfortable bed, amazing rainfall shower, tea and coffee in abundance, lovely finishing touches and very clean and cosy. We even stayed a 2nd night to relax. The manager is very welcoming, friendly and helpful. I would recommend a stay! Thank you.

Went for the Tapas Tuesday offer. Not clear that only selected wines are in the offer. Walked through the open door to be rudely/sharply told “this area is shut” Why not close the door or put a sign on the door! Food average and not particularly hot. Service friendly

Unfortunately the food was not up to standard! Who puts raw leeks in a salad, obviously no training here I don't blame people who are not properly trained. Girls serving fantastic. Especially Nina who was very good and attentive, she really brightened up the moment and the mood. I think if it wasn't for her and the bar staff the whole thing would not have been anything any good. M

Have had many occasions here including our wedding and have always had a lovely time! We decided to have my wife’s surprise birthday party here. After emailing the pub asking if we could hire the hall and have our own dj and music with the response as a yes we were rudely told to leave at quarter past ten. We were told by the rude owner that if he had known there was going to be a dj that he would have charged us more! We were all having a lovely time until the lights were simply switched on. My autistic daughter was very upset, as we tried to calm her down this man was looking down on us as we sat cuddling her on the sofa telling us to leave. We were told that we were all getting to drunk, everyone had children so we were just having a family gathering and everyone was just having fun with our children, at no point was any one to drunk! There were people in the beer garden more drunk falling over and shouting! The owner upset every single person in our family ushering everyone out! We paid an awful lot of money and the service we received was utterly disgusting. This man should not be a pub owner and is very rude, he has ruined the George for us and shall never step foot in the place again

This is lovely pub/ restaurant/ accommodation. We always try to stop when we're out this way. It's in a lovely setting with large garden and carpark. A good choice of food, something for everyone. I have special dietary requirements but not a problem. The staff are lovely, friendly and professional. Cant recommend them enough. Lots of entertainment/events. Check it out for yourselves.

Great hotel well priced. The room was a good size and well furnished. The breakfast was amazing top quality. The menu for tea was limited and quite pricey. If I was staying away on holiday wouldn't be a issue but with works food budget limited to £20 per day was quite tight, but the food was fantastic.

Went to the George as a special treat this evening and it was Amazing! I had the kofta flatbread and the family ate fish and chips and other delights, every dish was 'Tip Top'! The service was efficient and friendly. Best Pub Grub I have had in ages and the staff and the Landlord were all charming.

Worse meal I’ve eaten. Out of 4 meals only one was right. Meal 1, they gave chips in stead off mash with the pie and ice cold gravy. Meal 2, another pie that came out with the ice cold mash and graving, also missing the veg. Meal 3 was the tapas which came out with cheese instead of salami and prosciutto, once brought back it was just a plate of prosciutto. Meal 4 was a Luke warm burger. Costing nearly £100 when nothing was right and the landlord was sat with his mates drinking and watching the football. The only positive was the bar man that gave me a refund for something I didn’t order and the waitress that assisted with sorting our meals out.

Fabulous community owned pub run by professional landlords Charlie and Hannah. Food out of this world, brilliant selection of real ales and wines, wood burning stoves and all in a beautiful 16th century Inn! What more do you want!?
