The George & Dragon in Epping Forest

This pub is beautiful, in a great location and mostly good service (sometimes slow and our waiter seemed extremely new without much support). The dirty burger was good, though mostly cheese, but the roasts sizing seemed a bit stingy to us: three small potatoes and a few veggies. I'd come back for a drink, or maybe a simple bite but wouldn't rave about the roasts nor any of the desserts.

A solid gastro pub, the George was perfect for catching up with a colleague and her new baby. Staff were super friendly and helpful, food and drinks options were spot on and at an excellent price point. Note there is parking available around the back.

You expect a pub to be busy on a Saturday evening, but the speed of service for food was very poor. We waited over 20 minutes to be served, with similar delay after the main course. My steak and Malbec pie filling was more liquid than solid. The area where we were seated was near the internal doors leading to the upstairs toilets. Beyond them a further set of doors (marked “fire exit” with pushbars) was constantly being used by customers going into the courtyard. These doors were constantly left open, so we ate our meals wearing our coats to keep warm. The lack of attention by staff meant we could have left unnoticed and without paying (which we did not). We will not be visiting again, or recommending the pub to friends.

Every time we visit this pub, we receive outstanding service. The entire staff is incredibly polite, attentive, and kind. A special thanks to Ioana, who always looks after us and ensures we have the best experience—she’s absolutely amazing! Kind, friendly, and highly professional. The food is always delicious and consistently perfect. Huge thanks to the George & Dragon team for making this pub the best in the area!

Me and my husband love the george and Dragon and we ordered dinner which was the chicken, chips with chicken gravy and garlic sauce dip as well. The chicken is massive with a leg and a piece of breast and wing, and was roasted just right and moist. I love the staff in the pub and restaurant especially Ioana who always goes out of her way for everyone and certainly made us feel welcome with a smile and great atmosphere.

This has become our regular place to eat. The food is great but it’s the staff that really makes it. We were served by Iona and Bradley tonight and as always they were friendly and welcoming. The service is always 10/10 and what makes us come back and recommend it to others.

Excellent Roast Dinner this evening for a family gathering. Staff were fantastic and a special mention for Ioana who was fabulous with an enviable memory for orders!

On arrival we found the bar to busy and quite rowdy, appreciate that this is a public house, but the language coming out of the bar area was loud, rude and offensive.at no time did anyone from management try to quiten them down this went on for the entire we were at the restaurant. Inaddition to this, the cod that I had ordered was quite anemic and seemed to be undercooked. Couldn'twait to leave and TBH am not looking to go back anytime soon..

Such a wonderful experience at the George & Dragon Pub, the food was cooked to perfection and presented beautifully. The George and Dragon is my most favourite place to eat and drink. The food is consistently sensational; we have never been disappointed. Iona is the best waitress and manager I have ever encountered. She is helpful, friendly and genuinely makes our experience the best it can be. I highly recommend asking for Iona specifically, she is such a gem and will elevate your experience beyond your imagination!

Went for New Years Eve dinner, even though they were extremely busy the service was brilliant and the food was incredible.

Food was great - staff suggested replacement for unavailable halloumi fries - cheesy donut things - excellent! The lady was very attentive - uncle worried his plate would be taken away too soon (had a toilet visit) but she reassured him! Marked down Atmosphere as slightly chilly - but we were in there early and the only customers in that section at the time. Many thanks for providing a lovely meal with my family.

Came for Christmas dinner with the family, it was really wonderful! We had turkey and the pineapple dome which were incredible! The service was really good and we had a lovely dinner!

Really nice pub, great food and service

Christmas lunch was extremely rushed. Disheartening and dissapointting service. £94 per person excluding drinks and excluding the service charge you have no option of not paying even if service was below basic standard. No water was offered for the table, when we asked for water it came after the dessert. Starters were served while still eating the 'welcoming bread'. Mains were served served while still eating the starter. When we asked if they could pace out the servings and wait till we finished each course we were told there were lots of people booked for the day and each table has a limited time limit. Had we known that drinks and all 3 courses had to be served within an hour we would not have booked there. After this experience we will not eat there nor recommend.

The service was good and the food was nice. However, I don't think we will come back or recommend to others because the price was far too high. This is a pub and not a restaurant and although the food was good, the quality did not match the price tag. On top of this, it feels incredibly stingy to not include chips with a veggie burger when the prices are that high.

This is our second time being served by Nina. She is absolutely lovely. The food is delicious and the service is faultless. We had a lovely time, thank you Nina and the team!

Despite the place being more than half empty, we had a wait at least 10 minutes for someone to get our drinks order after we were seated. Wine wasn't offered to test and was of terrible quality, the water never arrived until we reminded them. Food arrived for only 3 out of 4 patrons. When we asked for the deserts menu (90 min into our seating) we were asked if 15 min would be enough before we leave, as the following reservation had already arrived. Desert arrived and the cheese platter was missing the blue cheese, an alternative was suddenly not available and was pushed to have the platter without a suitable replacement. We left within 2 hours of sitting at the table and, needless to say, we won't be coming back.

Came here in December 2024 for snacks and drinks. The whole place looked gorgeous - really fabulous ambience. The soft lighting made it feel so festive and cosy. The food was excellent, as was the wine. Everything was really good value. The staff made us feel so welcome and were very attentive. Will definitely come again.

Iona gave me and my friend great service the whole night and was very attentive.

Very rude staff, we booked a room out for a funeral wake. Told them in advance there could be up to 100 people attending but hard to say exactly. On the day, they huffed and moaned saying we were "getting in the way" and were incredibly rude to several of our guests. They made us feel like an inconvenience. I'm just shocked really and could not recommend them on any level.

First time at this pub, food was superb, great atmosphere, waiting staff were excellent especially Bradley who knew his stuff and was fun and knowledgeable. I’

Booked dinner here for family visiting from abroad that wanted to experience a British pub and they were not disappointed. We were looked after by Ioana who was lovely and very attentive. The food was excellent, cooked fresh not like some chain pubs that just warm it up and everyone had good time. Highly recommended.

Lovely pub and cosy atmosphere. The only let down is staff. They are simply miserable and service appallingly slow. Tables not cleaned quick enough for when others arrive. Needs to be addressed I'm afraid. Attention to hygiene and detail needed

Another fabulous afternoon spent at The George & Dragon, Epping. A great all rounder. Welcoming, friendly, comfortable, clean. A great buzzy atmosphere as it got busier. The five of us all enjoyed our food chosen from the great value set lunch menu. Fish and chips, steak sandwich, gammon steak, egg and chips, goat’s cheese salad. All lovely, fresh and very tasty Fantastic attentive service from Nina and helper, who went out of their way to make sure we were looked after. Look forward to our return

We had reserved a room for a pre-wedding dinner for 21 people, the staff were excellent, especially Ioana, who looked after us. She made sure to keep the food warm for us as some of our group were delayed, she prepared a special table for the happy couple and even had their names on a screen. It was a fantastic evening and we even rebooked the same room for Sunday lunch!

Stopped by for some lunch today, and the food was delicious. As a group of 3, we had clean plates all round. We were served by the lovely Nina, who is a credit to this pub. So welcoming and kind, this type of service is hard to come by. We'll be back 🙂

Lovely little pub and the foods always surprisingly good

Went for a lovely meal here the food was absolutely beautiful but the service we recieved from Ioana was amazing, she went above and beyond to ensure we had a lovely time. we didnt need to wait long for anything and nothing was to much trouble shes an absolute credit to your restaurant staff Thank you for a wonderful evening Ioana.
