Cafe Mio in Epping Forest

Far too slow and food is poor. Serving staff are pleasant but lack experince. 25 mins to bring coffees. Far too long when you have a limited lunch break. Jacket potato has that old taste like it had been in the fridge for a few days. Expensive and left as all underwhelmed. Such a shame as it used to be great.

Cafe Mio is an amazing place to eat. Lots of competition in Town but this is still our favourite. Great food and really friendly service. Great menu choice. Would highly recommend. Best cafe !!

It was a shame to see people walk out today as service very slow food was very good as usual.

Came into cafe Mio the other day and was quite shocked in the way the chef spoke to the young teen girl waitresses, who were evidently overwhelmed.Food wasn't that impressive anyway, my baked beans were cold and my toast was burnt. Waitresses were the only positive thing about this place. I hope they can get better jobs with better management they don't deserve to be treated how they were !

Visited this twice it's fantastic food a good choice of menu the staff I very friendly definitely recommend this cafe for the food the prices are very reasonable it's shame you can't always park outside no disabled parking

I had the best cheese and coleslaw jacket potato today at Cafe Mio. The service was good and the staff really friendly. I have been coming here too meet friends for several years and have never had a bad experience. I also feel you get value for money which you often don't get these days.

I got sandwiches. There is no tast at all. Everything tastes like feet. There is a lot of salad in a vulgar bread, or looks like a bread. The coffee is terrible. The american coffee is even better. The service is not too bad. A bit more smile on waitress's face would be appreciated. Cafe Mio, Not worth it!!!!!

We ordered the chicken, sweetcorn and cheese on Ciabata X2. Thought we would get a whole Ciabata each but got half of one each, a small portion but tasted amazing. 👍

Just to say I had a lovely lunch in Cafe Mio .I liked it so much, I went back the next day. Had a breakfast both days, and the first time it was huge with scrambled egg, beans and mushrooms, and toast, the second day I opted for a smaller "taster" .both meals were lovely. Really well cooked. And the staff were mega friendly..Will def be back😊

Best value cafe in Epping, I moved away from Epping but always call in for breakfast when back in Epping, today was great, the ultimate breakfast is a good plate of food, I noticed they had done some upgrades new seats and things looked fresher, still dog friendly, I would recommend cafe mio

We moved away from Epping a couple of years ago, but when we did live there, Cafe Mio was our favourite cafe, and I have previously left 5 star reviews. I am sorry to say that this cafe has gone downhill massively. My daughter and I were in the area visiting our optician and decided to go to Cafe Mio for lunch. The menu has changed, and it didn't have our old favourites, which was the salmon salad and the steak and onion baguette. My daughter asked the waiter (male, 20s, brown hair, and slight beard) for an alternative to the steak baguette. He suggested the "steak burger." I asked what it came with, and he said, "Cheese if you like. " She ordered this, and I ordered poached eggs on toast, making sure to tell the waiter I wanted runny yolks. Food arrived, and the burger was not what I would call a steak burger. It tasted cheap and was so greasy that the bun disintegrated. My poached eggs were on toast from a cheap white loaf, not artisan bread by any means, and the water from the eggs had soaked through the toast, making it inedible. I literally only ate the eggs, which had hard yolks not runny like I asked. My daughter left more than half of her burger. When i asked for the bill, I was told a price, they didn't provide me with a paper bill, and it was much higher than expected, so I asked to see the itemised bill. I noticed that they had charged me £2.50 extra for cheese on the burger. The burger was already £12 and definitely not worth the price. I can get an amazing truffle burger in central London for the same price! I was perplexed and asked the waiter if the charge was correct. His surly reply was, "Of course we charge extra"!! I was horrified as he said it with such a rude adolescent attitude. I was so upset, and he quite literally shrugged his shoulders. Disgusting attitude! He DID NOT say the cheese was an extra charge when we asked about the burger. We would not have ordered it had we known this. He did not offer to deduct it. I told him I wasn't pleased and would not be back. He couldn't have cared less. Shocking attitude and to think this cafe used to be a brilliant little cafe with lovely staff. I can only assume that it's under new management as I did not recognise anyone there. There are loads of amazing places to eat in Epping, so I'd give this place a wide berth!

2 poached eggs, bacon, tin tomatoes, toast and tea £16.50 ! Really . That would amount to £6-8 in any cafe serving the same basics . Shameless.

Cafe mio is by far the best cafe in Epping and the best place to grab some food in the surrounding area. Food was perfect, great portions and fast service. The panini is to die for!!

I have been coming here for a while as it's been a really lovely dog friendly cafe. I'm not sure if there's been different management or other but sadly the past couple of times I've popped in it's been unpleasant. Don't get me wrong the chiefs are lovely and cook some lovely veggies options. Sadly it's more the waiters/waitresses. I noticed they go through staff very quickly. Plus the lead waiter (dark hair and beard) the past couple of times has been rude and has made me feel uncomfortable. Sadly due to this I don't plan to come back. Such a shame as the team before were lovely.

This was great value for money! Me and my mum got a panini and they were delicious and a great portion size. The staff were also so friendly and the service was quick.

Had the award winning breakfast, and left wondering what the award was for. A combination of over done and under done food arrived on my plate, and I literally mean combination. Sausages half burnt (noticeable in taste) and half ok. Poached egg over done with little runny yolk for dipping/mixing with beans. Beans and bacon...well you can't screw up these luckily. Mushrooms undercooked. For the cost of the food generally across their menu and the look of the place (as it look good) I expected more. Sadly not a place I'll be popping back into.

Unfortunately we waited an hour for our food. Despite being told there was a wait didn't expect it to be an hour! Not sure why such a delay but seems to be a theme reading the reviews. Food was nice when it eventually came but not a great experience overall. Staff were apologetic. Could simply be resolved with a second cook in the kitchen. Not cheap either. £10.50 for a club sandwich and small salad garnish

I'm very disappointed. Food took 45 mins to arrive. Not only that, there were 3 of us, and the food was brought up to us with a couple of minutes gap between each person . By time food arrived our drinks were cold and the toast came up as if it was an after thought. Such a shame because it's normally such a nice little place to eat . I will say this , it is nothing against the waiting staff because I believe they were understaffed ,so maybe that needs to be considered for future reference

Long wait with no update from staff - left before we even got our food. Too much concentration on delivery orders and not enough on actual customers in the cafe. Second time this has happened to us in here .

Went as is dog friendly. Thought we would give it a 2nd try. Food once again took 40 minutes for scrambled egg on toast. Other meals not as described on the menu. When questioning the time for food was told they cook one meal at a time fresh but when questioned why 2 other tables who ordered after us had theirs they said it was pre-prepared food….. small portions and not worth the cost, there are many other ‘cafes’ in Epping that are worth your custom/money.

Been coming here for years, butburs gone downhill lately. Huge wait times on food, things arriving on your plate which wasnt on the menu? I had a Cajun burger, it arrived in Warburtons thin bread, no Brioche bun as stated, and the chips were soggy, just poor quality. My boys egg on toast took 40 minutes. We wont be returning.

A lovely, friendly cafe on the High Street. Very welcoming and helpful. My daughter was provided with good advice when choosing and had what she described as a yummy earl grey tea. My black coffee was good too. We shared a delicious cinnamon French toast. This was thoughtfully served split on two plates and nicely presented. We would definitely have it again. If you are after a more conventional breakfast, I’m sure that would good too and there is plenty of choice for breakfast or lunch.

An oasis of warmth on an extremely wet Sunday. The cafe was busy but we didn’t have too long to wait. Our mugs of tea were spot on and I have never had such a good egg and chips before. There wasn’t a trace of grease and the eggs were cooked to perfection. The chips were great. The children ate every scrap of their child meals and my daughter enjoyed her meal. The young waitresses were efficient and friendly. The cloakroom was nice and clean. We have visited before and would definitely go again.

Came this morning 29/10/2023 to check this amazing café with my partner as trip advisor was advertising it. Although it was so busy but hey! Who’s not busy on Sunday morning? Very lovely, excellent & amazing service! And the foooooood! Very good portions. It’s worth of waiting! Definitely will come back with my friends!

Third time I’m now visited and won’t be going again . Thought we’d give it one more try parking close, the first 2 visits were poor service and poor . Within min of walking on to an empty venue , picked a both seating for comfort and was asked to move by stroppy male/manger, as it was for large parties arriving ? (Ironically - after walking into town to go to Harley’s - which turned out to be fantastic and well worth the walk, on returning to our car looking into cafe mio, it was still empty, booth seat with no one there ). Staff need to be more appreciative and pay attention to paying custom )

Was sat in the cafe for over 20 mins without even being acknowledged. I eventually ordered a light snack and the service was ridiculously slow. The food may be nice but the service is appalling.

I went there couple of times with my laptop, the main guy who services the tables (a young guy) who I believe to be the Manager or owner is not very helpful and quite grumpy. The second time I went, the cafe was still pretty much empty with several tables available, the guy come to my table and clearly says: would you like to order some food please? We are coming now up to lunch time. Or perhaps can you order at “LEAST” another drink? I would have ordered some food at some point but I was quite busy doing my work on my laptop. However at that point, I was quite surprised by his Customer Service that I left. It was not lunch time yet and there were plenty tables available. I found that quite rude. Is it because I was there with my laptop using their Wi-Fi? Nevertheless that’s a very poor Customer Service!!!

Given a 4 star as I'm not sure you can give a cafe 5. So this is still a huge compliment. Staff are lovely and chatty. Food tastes yummy. Parking is not great

I asked for a salt beef sandwich the waiter looked me up and down and attacked me with a menu I had my baby with me and the waiter said that he wishes he could feed my “snotty little baby to the lions” and continued to undress my child. And threatened to “deep fry” his legs.

Not normally one to complain, but being persistent that “using your electricity for a laptop” should be some sort of extra charge… even when you sit and have a full paid for breakfast for two. Jobs worth running the show. Then persisted and trying double charge for 1 coffee. Customer service from the main guy clearly needs some improvements.. he was clearly frustrated at his other workers and then taking it out on the actual customers…. Guy needs a new job or a chill pill.. Can give a 5* for scaring off your customers because even the food looked bland.. taste was alright, but nothing special… was good 3 years ago, not now. Avoid.

I visited 03.06.2023 time 13:00 food was lovely but I had really worse customer service orders took 30 min to come on table and when I asked staff member tea/coffee comes free with breakfast staff member said yes and after that charged me £6 extra said sorry it does not come with breakfast not really happy and not cmg back again

Extremely slow service. Three tables got their food before us although they’d arrived after us. We had finished our teas by the time the breakfast made its way to us. Took just under an hour for food to arrive. Appalling. Also, mushrooms looked like tinned ones slapped onto the plate. Won’t be returning.

This is one of the best cafe's in Epping. We always go here. The food is good quality and nothing is too much trouble. The prices are very reasonable for what you get. The menu is extensive. The team are lovely in there and you are paying for good food, done well with simplicity. We would highly recommend Cafe Mio compared to very expensive (which we don't mind if the quality and flavour is good) competitors in the high street. Argulably it is not a "glamourous" as others but we like good food done well with a smile on their face. Well done Cafe Mio - keep it up!

Went on bank holiday Monday was all waiting for hot drinks over 20 minutes then the waitress said sorry I have to go Tesco's waited over 30 minutes asked for a glass of water to take tablets didn't arrive asked again 15 minutes later didn't receive no water. Ordered good long wait 30 minutes could be more. When food arrived it was nice ordered more hot drinks waited 20 minutes nothing arrived asked where the coffees were said oh sorry I will take the order again order 2 white lattes when arrived 15 minutes later gave me 2 cupachions and said sorry I made the wrong coffees just accepted didn't want to wait no longer need more staff.

Usually our "go to" for good food and pleasant staff, especially Michael the server, as he remembers what we like. Despite sometimes being rushed of his feet both inside and at the tables outside, he is always cheerful. Like to support an independent local Cafe

Consistency good food one person that stands out is michael the waiter who is very enthusiastic and efficient.

Lovely interior but the food is very mediocre and staff can be really slow. Two tables were served before us although they arrived at least ten minutes after us. This is the second visit for us and both times we’ve been served last and made to wait significantly longer than others around us.

Ordered 2 meals and a kids meal, waited 25mins and had to ask where the drinks were, waited another 30mins for the food to turn up and what a dissapointment. Kids meal was a ham sandwich with cucumber on the side, which came on a hot plate too hot for toddler to touch, jackie potato with cheese and beans bubbling like being well overcooked in a microwave and the ultimate breakest fry up very poor and not worth £12.99. Waitress did knock the drinks off the bill but still wasn't worth the money.

Warm cosy friendly, dogs allowed, they even gave my dog a free sausage. Food is fab and staff are really welcoming

Last Friday I went to Cafe Mio for breakfast! The breakfast it self was 10/10 the chef was fast and very precise so well done for that 👏 The waiter on the till was very pleasant and well mannered, I actually paid for breakfast and forgot to pay for the drink 🍸 when I eventually mentioned this to him he said "Don't worry man is in the house, I do something good for u something good will come back! He was right i score him 10/10 best customer services I ever had 🌟 ⭐

Came here a few weeks ago after having a fairly positive experience. Slightly slow service, staff seem a little disgruntled that my friend and I only wanted to order a hot drink each. Returned last week to be seated, waited nearly 10 minutes for someone to come over and tell us that someone would be over shortly to take our order. Waited another 10 minutes and still no service. Disappointing as the cafe is generally lovely inside and nicely laid out. Coffee was mediocre on this occasion too.

Only for the very hungry. The portions are enormous!

Nothing special and prices make your eyes water. Not recommended plenty of better places in Epping..

Sunday morning breakfast with the family, good food, nice staff and probably one of the few reasonable priced cafes left in Epping, huge portions and dog friendly, we like it a lot and go a couple of times a month, the food is always good we would recommend 100%

While travelling I have stop here to get something to eat and what a lovely experience it was. The food is lovely and the staff were very nice. Shout out to one of them for doing the Christmas cracker with me (as I was on my own) made me fell very welcomed ! Would 100% recommend!

Good food. Generally crowded. Don't like the new seating with some bar stools. Update Dec 2022. Pre-pandemic it was order at counter and pay, now its waited service and pay at end. Much better.

Have not been in Cafe Mio since before covid I forgot how good it was. Food we had today was tasty fresh and at a fair price plenty of it with good service

They were short staffed so we waited quite a while but they did their best and kept us updated. Nice staff.

Lovely little cafe with a good range on the menu, affordable prices, friendly staff and it's dog friendly too! They even bring some chicken or a sausage for your pup so they don't feel left out. Epping is full of places to eat, but if you don't eat here at least once you are a fool!

The bacon and beans was OK, hence the 1 star however, the sausage was pink inside and there was no salt and pepper inside the shakers which was a shame, the mushrooms tasted like it was from a can and food was overpriced. I won't be going here again.
