Lovely village pub with a great food menu. The portions are good the food we chose was delicious all freshly home made. Absolutely no complaints. Good place for all families , and they have plenty of games to keep the children occupied.

We all had a really great night. Good choice of dishes both in the menu and on the specials board. Food was delicious and presented beautifully. Generous portions, really enjoyed the variety of fresh vegetables. Waitress was very attentive and friendly without being intrusive. Friendly welcoming landlady and locals. Would definitely return.

We had been to this pub several times in the past, always taking friends and as a whole having a great meal in what i would describe as, comfortable surroundings. Unfortunately our latest visit differed. Though the meal was lovely the atmosphere was as cold as the room we ate in. There was no heating which didn't help the cold room. I asked the landlady if she could put the fire on, but she refused. We were forced to eat our meal shivering, sat in our outer coats. I don't think it is unreasonable to eat in comfort, something you cannot do when you are shivering. I complained to the waitress about the cold in which I am led to believe she informed the landlady, to no avail. We had travelled with friends a substantial way to re live the great experiences we had in the past. Sadly, apart from the food we got none of it. We will not return again.

Visited 14th of February with my partner and my parents for a family valentines meal. We’ve been coming to the George and Dragon for years but haven’t been since before Covid so thought it’d be a nice change. It really was as good as always and so lovely to have hearty home made meals, considering one chef works alone you really really can’t complain, he doesn’t fantastic job! The food is hot, tasty, filling and overall just 10/10. The pub itself it’s a little outdated but we think this adds to the character of the place, as long as you’re not materialistic or snobby you’ll appreciate the quirk 😊 The lady behind the bar who I’m assuming is the owner/landlord was lovely so I’m not entirely sure what the previous review is on about, she welcomed us and showed us to our table, even making space for our two dogs (dog friendly). Any time after that we spoke to her she was accommodating and always smiley. The young blonde girl waiting on was a lovely server and a great addition to the place, really polite and friendly. Such a homely, traditional pub and great value for money: 3 starters, 4 mains, 1 side dish, 2 desserts, 3 cokes, 2 pints and a bottle of wine all for just over £100, bargain! We will definitely be coming again 😊 thank you!

Very unfriendly landlady. Not banter, no smiles, food ok, presentation lets it down. The only good thing I can say is the young lad serving. I think his name is George.

Amazing home cooked food in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. A lovely small village pub on the main street in Wray. We came in during the scarecrow festival and had a quick bite but also wanted to experience the village life when the village was not as busy. (Scarecrow week is really busy when the world descends on the village - don’t let the other reviews put you off as they paint a blinkered picture!). So we visited the following week too and had a lovely afternoon, finished off with a nice gammon and chips. My wife was undecided about her choice so the landlady recommended the Salmon and it was well received. Great recommendation and we’ll be going back next time we are in the area. The beer garden looks stunning in the sun, and the aviary will keep the kids busy too!

Just had a lovely family time round the Wray scarecrows festival with our dogs. Wanted to go somewhere to eat so went to George and Dragon since it is dog friendly. Began in the beer garden but moved inside. No sooner had we sat down than one of the bar staff came over said are you eating, before we could answer she removed the dining implements. Never felt so unwelcome so we finished our drinks and left. Not an experience we will repeat at that pub!

Typical old English pub in a lovely little village with lots of character and a great little garden to the rear. We recently stayed in the area and visited the pub twice. Found it to be excellent value and really friendly hosts. They had finished serving meals, but accommodated us anyway and we had the most delicious fish and chips and sticky toffee pudding. Will definitely return if in the area .

This venue is very popular and based on the quality of the food you can see why. It has lots of seating inside and the staff were all really friendly and helpful. We visited this pub for a meal this evening and felt we needed to write a review about how good the food was! I had the sea food pasta - amazing, equal quality of an Italian restaurant. The children had meals from the children’s menu which were great value and quality! The chicken nuggets actually looked like chicken, a rarity with children’s meals. They even had a little corner with some toys and books for the children and some more traditional board games for the adults. Overall a lovely evening and an excellent place to have a drink and most definitely a meal.

We visited here after being let down by a pub near our site. We were feeling a bit down hearted and hungry! We arrived and were welcomed and shown through to the beer garden and wow what a surprise! Absolutely beautiful garden with room for children to play and an aviary full of beautiful birds! The service was amazing and so friendly. The food was on another level and the portions were gigantic! It felt as though all the food was made by someone who loved what they were doing. Even our dog got a bowl of water and a yummy treat. We were so impressed we wanted to add a decent tip on our bill but the lady would not accept it and instead asked us to return in the future. This tells us they are running this place for all the right reasons! We will definitely be returning when we next stay nearby in July and recommending it to friend and family! Thank you!

This is our local which is a very traditional village pub with very good ‘pub grub’. The food is always well cooked from a tiny kitchen by Neil the owner and there is always a good specials board with interesting choices. There is sometimes a bit of a delay for the food to arrive but the chef is doing all this alone. This is a great place to go for an informal, delicious, and realistically priced meal.

You don't come across many pubs like this any more. Very traditional in its decoration - as much like an old school golf club as anything.. our server was absolutely charming throughout and the food was very good indeed and ambitious in places though my partridge was a little dry. The children's menu was excellent. There was about 11 of us so not easy especially when the village was preparing for its scarecrow festival- as we drove in people had to raise the bunting so we could pass.Would love to go back..

The George & Dragon could be the food find of the year! Do not be put off by the dingy interior, here in lies culinary delights! A substantial menu to choose from, with a lot of traditional choices. My father, who’s 91, generally orders what he’d like, eats half, then passes it to my husband to finish as he “doesn’t like to waste food”. On this occasion they both ordered Lamb Henry with new potatoes and veg. (£13.45) And quite frankly, I’ve never seen my dad eat a full plate of food for years! He even joked about needing a slice of bread to mop up the gravy! I ordered the cashew nut roast with chips. (£8.95)To break it down even more, the Lamb Henry’s meat just fell off the bone and was served on its own in a succulent deep, rich gravy. The cashew nut roast consisted of two slices, jam packed full of nuts, served with a side jug of delicious onion gravy. Both the vegetables (red cabbage, carrots, cauliflower and new potatoes) and the rustic (skin on) handcut chips came in their own dishes. All hot! All cooked to perfection! Desserts, well, who wouldn’t!? A separate menu for a great selection of puds and cakes, so I’m presuming these will change often. (?)We had two bread and butter puddings with custard and a chocolate torte with ice cream. I shared with my dad and swapped half way through, mainly because he had never tried a torte & at his age why not try new stuff! Goodness me, satisfied just wouldn’t do it all justice! AMAZING FOOD! We all commented on how the inside could do with a tidy up but it’s clean, warm, the service was excellent, all at a very reasonable price. And, did I mention just how good the food was?

Visited on wed evening at 17:45 after seeing such good reviews on here. Hosts unwelcoming due to party of 6 adults and 2 children. Told we should have booked (4 other people in restaurant when we arrived). Felt an inconvenience from when we arrived. Once seated, told we couldn’t sit outside as only one waitress working, no apologies made. Waited an hour for our meal. Understood from host that all food made from scratch so could understand the wait. Food was fine for price, but didn’t live up to expectations after reading previous reviews on here. Mostly the issue remained that we were treated like we were an inconvenience. Given so many pubs in the area then we wouldn’t go back. Sorry to leave a negative review as were really looking forward to a good meal in a friendly atmosphere, and this is not what we received.

We visited during the Scarecrow Festival. This is a traditional pub which serves good food. We enjoyed our fish and chips. We had been exploring the village, finding all the scarecrows and they were very good. We needed a drink in the pub to recover from our explorations and we enjoyed our visit to the pub and the village of Wray. I liked the Traditional Tales theme of the Festival and it gave rise to a wide variety of scarecrows. They were all watched over by an enormous lady scarecrow in a flowing green dress. I've eaten at The Herbarium lots of times now and every meal I've had has been delicious. I love their matcha tea too. I'm not fully vegan, but try to eat a plant-based diet 4-5 days a week, and you certainly don't feel you're sacrificing anything in terms of taste, variety or quality at The Herb. A calming atmosphere and lovely staff too. Well done to the whole team (including the Chefs who probably don't get a shout out often enough) 👏
