Having heard that The George was under new management, we decided to visit to try the most important meal of the day. Breakfast. We loved the Italian ski vibe when we first entered. Started with a great coffee- super hot and of good quality. We both had the frittata ciabatta and were so pleased we did. Piping hot, seasoned to perfection and high quality ingredients. Service was great. Laid back (just as you want it on a Sunday morning) and friendly. We are already planning our next visit as the main menu looks amazing.

Found the George on Monday 1st July it was after the kitchen staff had gone home but Jonathan the landlord put him self out and made us a delicious plate of meat cheese olives and bread nothing seed to be to much trouble would recommend thank you Jonathan. David&Carol.

Went with wife and 2 friends and had a fab time. We got there at five so early evening on a Saturday night. Quiet to begin with but soon filled up. Food was good, I had a pizza. You could tell it was freshly made as mine had fresh asparagus and was very tasty. Some times Italian food I find can be a bit salty but this was spot on. Beer - they have several real ales, beer was fine. Service was very good so all in all we had a great time. Would recommend.

We popped into town and found the George in the square. Never been to Petersfield before, so we thought lets try this place. It did not disapoint . The food and staff were top notch. So good we went back the following evening. Next time we are in the area we will be back.

Fantastic new set-up, menu and wine list. Absolutely loved the new menu. I had calamari followed by the spaghetti arrabiata with the Milanese on top (this is normally served with chips and salad. Everything was cooked perfectly. The wine list had a fantastic Sicilian Viognier.. all in all a great night with friends. Nice to have a new food option in Petersfield. :)

Visited The George for lunch on 26th November. Suzanne and her team of staff were so friendly and accommodating. Great food and we ended up (unintentionally) staying out late as it was such a great atmosphere. The live DJ in the evening was amazing too. Couldn’t rate The George, the staff, the food and the vibe highly enough!

Lovely pub … but so cold no comfort sat with coats on all time we where there even when eating ! The food was average presentation poor … quality of meat poor gammon tough as old boots… Service was hit and miss the lady behind bar friendly. Very cold pub we spent over £100 but felt food and service did not warrant a tip sorry overall not likely to return

Last Saturday night I arrived at The George for a catch up with three friends. Upon ordering drinks at the bar, talking to the barman i asked him if plastic beakers and four burly bouncers were needed in a quiet pub in Petersfield, he informed me that Petersfield was a dangerous place and things could kick off at any moment. Upon looking around the bar at the polite quiet youngsters having a drink I chuckled and said ‘really????’ This led him to get very defensive and agitated and repeatedly wanting to know if I lived in Petersfield !!!! Bless him I think he thinks it’s the Bronx..... Oh by the way I’ve lived in Petersfield for over 40 years :)

Great dj and great atmosphere on a Friday night. Bar service is quick and the garden is great for cooling off after dancing

all credit goes to the chef Nick for going out of his way to serve the food to the tables when the rest of the team was under pressure. He was polite and friendly. 5 stars for him. 3 stars for the pub a whole

Went for lunch with 3 friends. None of us had eaten here in a while. Not a good sign when the lagers came with huge heads. My friends gin glass was filthy. Staff looked ramshackle and a bit inept . They said the right words but couldn’t hatch it to their actually jobs.At 1pm they were down to their last lasagne, the pie had gone and so had breaded chicken .I ordered the deal 5 small plates for £16.99 ; 2 nachos, Cumberland sausage bites, battered mozzarella sticks and chicken wings, to share with one friend.The other 2 ordered scampi. One scampi arrived a good 5 minutes before anything else appeared. Looked like a child’s portion and not £10.99 worth. Scampi bites rather than full scampi, one scoop of peas, few frozen chips. We thought perhaps we’d ordered the wrong size but the second was equally disappointing.Another wait before the last scampi.Nachos were fine as expected. Cumberland sausage bites I had expected to be cocktail sausages cooked in some sauce.Nope. Ordinary bangers cut into prices with a squirt of bbq sauce on top. It did have sesame seeds and spring onions as advertised but they did little to help what look like a small child’s first attempt at making grown up food.The mozzarella sticks were inedible. Barely deep fried but still very greasy. Horrid and I’m someone that eats anything (especially at £7.50).No one asked if the food was ok. But then they didn’t apologise for the food coming in dribs and drabs because I genuinely don’t think they know what they are doing service wise. It gets one star for having Peroni on draught .

Our first time in Petersfield and we got lucky when we spotted The George and popped in for brunch. A warm welcome and great service from Suzie, and we enjoyed the most delicious full English breakfast - the best we've had for a long time. Nice atmosphere, too. We'll definitely be back!

Went to the George whilst visiting petersfield decided to go for the triple meat roast , asked if we could have just pork and beef no problem …dinner arrived…. lovely ….asked for extra roasties again no problem , glass of wine and a pint of bitter just under £35 very enjoyable will be returning .

What can I say? When life gives you lemons the George gives you Lemia? From wet t shirt competitions to Newcastle away whatever you want they’ve got it??Ordered a peroni and got a red card and I mean I deserved it, argued for the yellow and got an extra peroni.10/10 service tbh, only downfall... if I had to be a critic was the black and white T-shirt was quite frankly Alan shearer on steroids.P.s just kidding red card me again hehe lol x

We had a lovely first day back in the pub. The staff were awesome, but in particular Lemia was lovely. She was kind, polite and had a lovely conversation with our daughter about staying good at school!!! Thankyou Lemia, we will definitely be back!!!!

Strict adherence to Covid regulations meant half of the garden was not covered. We booked knowing it was a rainy day. Told we had to have the table with no cover as the head office booked the tables. The other customers who reserved did not turn uptherefore we kept our covered table. The manager was rude especially as his staff had both told us we could move once one table had gone. Will not return as that was my first experience and the last!

What a dreadful experience. Lots of attention to Covid regulations; shame that didn't extend to protecting the health of victims from the cuisine. Wetherspoons is better!!?The steak pie was basically a gravy pie, the salad was described as shredded cabbage with dry chicken (I hope) and funny bacon with odd sauce, and 2 x Cod and chips had undercooked batter surrounding some kind of fish. The beer was cloudy and then ran out (I saw my rejected pint being offered to another victim minutes later).Our server was attentive and polite - shame he is wasted in that establishment.

We visited over the festive period and had a really great time, the food was 10/10 and the service was 10/10 We will be visiting again as soon as they reopen and we can book a table, can’t wait we love this place

went before lockdown and it was a pleasure. Lovely food and great atmosphere would definitely recommend to anyone. They also followed lockdown protocols very well and I felt they did everything to not allow the spread of COVID in their establishment.

The George is well situated in town, it is lively and has a great atmosphere. The selection of ales are very good also. You feel comfortable with your wife or family here and they do bands and DJs at the weekend normally or did before covid. The team are very friendly and always wanting to please. The outside area is very good and also covered so can be used all year around. Great pub.

Christmas lunch was amazing the staff were brilliant friendly and always there if u needed anything. The atmosphere the covid safe rules put in place made us feel very safe. Food was absolutely amazing

went for a day out around petersfield , went t o a few shops and walk past the george and the outside looked so inviting . went in a wow , very clean and well laid out. staff were amazing and we had the most amazing food . great experience . 2 hours well spent . also i must say i felt so safe with all the covid-19 awareness.

We popped in for a roast this evening and they gave us such attentive service. A warm and friendly team who went out of their way. The food was lovely, homemade and absolutely delicious roast beef- perfect trimmings. A wonderful weekend treat. A little local gem, well worth a visit!

Really enjoyed my visit to the George this weekend. Had a few drinks on Friday and then ate there on Sunday, and on both occasions the staff were friendly, attentive and very welcoming. Felt v comfortable with their safety measures that they'd put in place. Decent prices and tasty food too - would recommend!

Myself and a few family members booked here for lunch on 26th August and had a lovely time. We were greeted warmly at the entrance and given our menus, all waiting staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming from start to finish. I ordered a Vegan Burger which was delicious, my two family members had the hallumi and avocado sandwich, and a grilled cheese sandwich. My mum didn’t realise that the cheese in her sandwich was smoked (which she didn’t like) and they kindly remade her sandwich with Cheddar. Excellent service! Even better was the fabulous discount in offer through August which was applied when we went to the bar to pay. Thoroughly recommend this pub restaurant in the beautiful market town of Petersfield.

What can I say, a truly wonderful pub, staff are very welcoming, great beers and a wonderful gin selection.I've eaten here several times and it's always been top notch.And the Monday night quiz is the stuff of Legends. If great food, great beer and a great time is your bag then get yourself over to the George, you won't regret it.

I took a ride over to the George as I was recommended the pub by a friend. On arrival I received a warm friendly welcome by the host, shown the sanitiser station and then shown to my table. I ordered a drink and had a look through the menu while I was waiting. On looking around I noticed it was a one way system and the seating was allowing for the 2M distancing. I received my drink and placed my order of the Vegan Burger that had caught my eye. Being a bit of a people watcher I was very aware of how thorough the staff were in sanitising trays after use, touch points, tables when the customers had left and their own hands. I was very reassured in witnessing the practices as I’m still rather anxious about Covid. My burger arrived in what seemed like no time at all. It looked fantastic and I wasn’t disappointed when I tasted it, it had loads of flavour and a good texture. Typically on their check back I had a mouthful so had to give the thumbs up ( which was well deserved) I had hoped to fit in a dessert but it was so filling I’d run out of room. As a female solo diner I felt very comfortable and welcomed. Lovely pub and highly recommend and I’ll be back for that dessert.

I visited The George last Thursday and had a gorgeous meal served by the chef, I believe his name is Nick. The manager was a charming guy who was very helpful with the current situation with social distancing etc. Helped me to relax and want to leave the house even with everything going on in this godforsaken world.

Amazing place to go, great selection of drinks, food is amazing especially the burgers, staff are friendly and they are abiding by the current guidelines exceptionally well. Keep up the good work everyone, thumbs up from me.

I have eaten here a few times prior to the pandemic as a family and found the service to be above and beyond accommodating, the environment friendly and the food exceeded all our expectations (6 years old can be tricky to please!).Given the unprecedented difficulties of recent times, especially for hospitality trade, I had lowered my expectations for our most recent visit... I didn't need to!The staff were brilliant and provided the same excellent service as before, whilst all observing government guidelines. We all enjoyed wonderfully cooked roast dinners, and our puppy was welcomed and spoilt!Much welcomed and needed R and R following 17 weeks of working front line... Will be back tomorrow!

Turned away NHS and Military Key workers !!! After a long day we booked an 8pm table for food. Seen to table and order taken. Told 20 mins later the kitchen had closed. No exception. In our party was 2x military doctors and 1x military key worker. VERY disappointed - we had come from Petersfield from Rowlands castle specifically for food..... you make your mind up how this place operates

Chanced upon The George on a rainy Sunday morning. We just fancied a small breakfast. They had a fabulous breakfast menu but we were not that hungry, so we just each had toast with preserve and coffee. It was just great. How they managed to serve this up for a total of only £5 is simply brilliant... I had to ask if they had made a mistake with our bill. Friendly staff. Great little place.

Looking for a place to get some breakfast in Petersfield we found The George and saw that they had items like smashed avocado on toast (with eggs) and guessed that they would be able to produce something vegan for breakfast. Our requirements were fairly low. As a vegetarian myself I wanted the vegi breakfast and asked that the kitchen was asked if the sausages were vegan and also if the eggs could be replaced with smashed avocado to make the breakfast vegan. The lady went off to ask the kitchen and came back to explain that the sausages were not vegan and the eggs could not be replaced by the avocado due to the avocado being too expensive to replace the eggs. I then asked since the sausages were NOT vegan if the eggs and the sausages could be replaced by the avocado. This was reluctantly asked for and agreed by the kitchen. As the lady tilled in the order she said “oh there’s no mushrooms by the way, they ran out. Hope that’s ok”I stopped myself from saying “what are you replacing those with then? Since you’re so diligent about replacement items and their cost”The food arrived. Vegetarian - 2 fried eggs over cooked. Deep fried frozen potato disks cooked well. 1/2 tomato burnt (“charred”) raw, one slice toast. 23 baked beans (3 level teaspoons). 2 potato paste with tiny bits of broccoli and carrot vegi sausages - soggy deep fried outside raw middle. Vegan - 1/2 avocado sliced. Deep fried frozen potato disks cooked well. 1/2 tomato burnt (“charred”) raw, one slice toast. Baked beans (8 level teaspoons).Verdict. The sunny terrace outside is great and the food and wines very god. The Sauvignon NZ is the best value 26 miles around , the ciders and stouts are great. The room inside is separated in two sections and there is good space between the tables and a very confit banquette on the upper right side.Also the service there is great , everybody and esp Rosie.

We last reviewed The George in October 2017 when the day-to-day management (but not the ownership) had changed. The then-new regime was a disaster.We called in today for the first time since 2017 to see if things have improved. We understand that the day-to-day management remains by the owners.OVERALL, ANOTHER BIG DISAPPOINTMENT.The place has had a half-hearted makeover but the end result lacks coherence; no clear style. We went to sit at a table but found sticky drinks marks on the faux-leather seats; moved to the next table but found the same and a sticky table. Moved to a third table which was OK. So decided to give lunch a miss and just order their coffee and cake at a reasonable £4. (Both were OK).Having sat down there was a long wait before we were told that we had to order at the bar! And then found that we had to pay there-and-then - no bill at the end as is usual! Then another long wait before anything came. Surprising as there were only 3 other customers for around 40 covers - and this was on a Sunday with the local farmers' market on!! Bad.The menus have been improved since the disasterous change in 2017. Typical pub food. Burgers, chicken, sausages, etc. Fish and chips at £11 but at Wetherspoons at the other end of the High Street it is £7.40, and from a much more extensive and interesting menu. I asked if they had re-established the highly popular (pre October 2017) Wednesday steak evenings at a very attractive price - answer- NO.The all-important Food Standards Agency Hygiene Rating (July 2019 inspection) is a measly 3, two below the maximum of 5; and looking into the open kitchen is is easy to see probably why - the kitchen looks thoroughly disorganised and cluttered. No surprise that the rating of 3 is not prominently displayed at the front - indeed I coudn't find it at all and I looked specifically. Wetherspoons has a Hygiene Rating of 5, the top score, as do many other Petersfield establishments where we have eaten recently.The toilets still look as if they need a complete makeover.There are several very critical reviews on Trip Advisor but most are without any response from the management. Gordon Ramsey would have a field-day reviewing this place!! In my view this is a PUB TO AVOID - we will not be back nor will we recommend The George. Such a shame given its prominent position on The Square.

I visited the George at Petersfield at lunchtime on 24 August to celebrate my birthday and make an important announcement to my family. I was with my elderly parents and my 22 year old son. My 83 year old father ordered drinks for everyone but he could not order for my son who was refused alcohol I told the barman he was 22 and I showed him and the landlord a copy of his passport. Rather than make a judgment call based on our honesty and the copy of his passport he was still refused alcohol. This episode was really upsetting because we had got together on the basis that we were celebrating a family announcement. I was mortified that the landlord did not use common sense in this situation when it was obvious my son was 22 and he was spending lunchtime with his mum and grandparents We will not be going back to this pub and our day was spoilt.

We had a table for four of us. Two peoples mains arrived 10 mins later than the other two peoples. And by the time we waited for the other people’s food to arrive, ours was then cold. The portion sizes for all 4 of us were too small, much much smaller than it used to be. The man behind the bar was rude to me. I asked do you still have pizza on the menu. “No we don’t, and we never will again. Ok!”

Came here for fiance's birthday meal. We walked in and welcomed and told to find a table and order at the bar. Service was lovely and quick, food was delicious I had a burger with chips and then a sticky toffee pudding!! Would definitely recommend trying this pub out!

Very decent steak for a pub. Asked for medium-rare and was cooked absolutely spot-on by (relatively new) chef Geoff.

Popped in for lunch & staff were very good, still getting used to the tills. Order placed, sticky wings, halloumi & broccoli griddled & chips. Most were ok, but sticky wings should be cooked in sauce, not fried wings with sauce poured over & served with a limp salad. Chips were good. Overall very disappointed with the wings

Ok coffee, and good for a late night place seeing as there’s little other choice but the menu and quality of food is seriously lacking, place just doesn’t seem to fit into Petersfield at the moment. Worrying the number of clearly fabricated reviews recently, assume the new manager has some confidence issues in what he’s taken on

Came here a few years ago and the pub has completely changed, Whoever the new manager is, props to you. Visited last Wednesday for a pint and some food with friends, Was greeted by friendly staff with smiles. Would Recommend.

There was a beautiful Ginger man behind the bar the manager I think, think his name was Brett he made sure my experience was.... shall we say, very very enjoyable. He did have help from one other colleague, the Deputy manager I think an Irish lad beautiful blue eyes, very deep think he said his name was R-Kelly. well they both took great care of me and I will definitely be returning.

What can I say, I’d been here a few months ago and was very disappointed to say the least! However I had been told the place was under new management and was much improved! I was not disappointed! Everything was exceptionally clean, which it was not before! Brad who I believe is the new manager was wonderful and provided a fantastic experience! I will be back!

Totally disastrous lunchtime visit to The George today.

Upon arrival I was greeted to overly hostile security. witnessing them assault somebody for being too drunk instead of calm security measures and containing them.

We stopped by for a bite to eat for lunch. The little pub stood out from the market square. The menu was varied the food was good pub grub unfortunately the down side was no fresh mash and we've had better pies but the service was good and the setting was pleasing.

I class it as a local as I tend to pop in after work for a pint or 2 but after popping in lunchtime today, somewhat dissapointed with the new? Management.

Stopped off for a full English whilst my wife had her nails done. Quite good with the usual bacon and eggs . Also had a coffee

Was on my way to a meeting, with time to spare. Decided on breakfast and chose "The George". Pleasant enough staff, plenty of tables to choose from.

Popped in for a light bite at lunchtime on a Thursday. Good menu with plenty of choice, you can mix and match items, food prepared freshly and well. Interior is pleasant and from previous visits I can say that the courtyard garden is a quiet hideaway in this nice town.

We all four ordered the burgers, which I have to say were quite tasty. However, they didn’t seem consistent with one of us having half a gherkin diced up and the other having none. We also noticed there weren’t any fried onions on the burgers as advertised. The portion of fries were so small on one our plates that we had to say something, luckily they brought out some more 5 minutes later.

Went as a large family group all had to sit at separate little tables as all the other tables booked up . It was a Sunday afternoon so this was to be expected . Better book before if a few of you . We wanted a small lunch or light bite as having a family meal later . However, no sandwiches and light bites so we ordered a side of chips and one of onion rings . Came in a small pot and very nice chips but quite a small portion for what we paid . Onion rings came out of batter when you cut them up .tasted nice but not many for the price . Ordered some coffees and lattes . The coffees came in large cups lattes which cost more came I. Small cups so wish we had ordered a coffee instead . One family on our party ordered a children’s meal of haloumi it was awful small piles of burnt cheese with a a few sprigs of grilled broccoli which were indelible . Child loves veg but grilled broccoli? It looked black and limp and unappetising . Had to order more chips as the tiny piece of haloumi was not very filling .took a while for all the food to come and the other reserved tables hadn’t all arrived by that time either .

After ordering our drinks , I could tell immediately that the staff were not trained well and pretty incompetent when it comes to working in a pub.

The George is usually good. On sunday I popped in with my Daughter for lunch. Mulled wine please, this was 12/30 they had forgot to turn it on. Then she asked for the Bean bake. I had the soup ,the soup was lukewarm......well the Bean bake hadent seen an oven.. it was like a tin of mixed beans sprinkled with Breadcrumbs.. what a letdown. Wont be rushing back.

Been a few times now during the day and evening and each time have a had an enjoyable time

We stopped in for a few drinks here Saturday night - it looked very nice from the outside, situated on the historical square. Only to be greeted by an incredibly rude bartender (the general manager!) Too busy chatting to care about paying customers but happy to snap at simple questions. We quickly finished up and went for a meal at the Italian next door. Unfortunately we made the mistake of coming in again later as they had live music.... Only to be served by a very nice but clearly under aged girl (this was easily past 11pm!? I'm unsure if laws have changed? the management was too busy flirting with the bouncers to answer our queries. It is apparently common knowledge, locals seemed well aware! So again we left this strange and dysfunctional pub with little reason to return. Friendly staff, appalling management

What can i say? The service is exemplary, they could not have been more attentive. 2 table checks which in some high-end locations is unheard of! I used to come here 20 yrs ago and it was a far different establishment. I would happily come here again for lunch and if i lived in the immediate area, would make it my local. Well done guys!

We went as a family the food ok nothing to write home about the service was not good the guy who served us didn’t care weather he served us or not. And when we finally got served he handed a hot plate to my daughter who got slightly burnt no apology was given on a whole not good

Went for lunch with two friends yesterday. I’m still speechless about the food that the chef (and I use the term very loosely) had the brass neck to send out. Inedible and rank will suffice. Needless to say we sent it back and left! Poor service too - no acknowledgement when we arrived as the girls were too busy chatting amongst themselves and no real apology for the dreadful food.

I came for a quick sandwich had a croque, it was brilliant and the gentleman that served me on the bar was very respectful..will definitely return

Went here on Monday 27th (Bank Holiday Monday) for the Petersfield Festival, and even though it was very busy, the team were brilliant with how well they handled it. We were told about a wait for food, which we didn’t mind as we were not in a rush, but it was worth the wait. I will most definitely return. What a great pub, great food and a lovely brilliant team.

Visited the George with some friends and have to say was very impressed! We had breakfast which was really good. The pub was fairly busy for an early morning with people in for coffee but the service was prompt and friendly. The manager was really welcoming and friendly and filled us in on upcoming events . We will definitely visit again!

Located on the main town square, this place does bar food until 4pm at lunchtime. I had a really good prawn salad. Pleasant staff. Good standard of decoration.

Can't quite believe I've just paid an almost £40 bill. Downhill is an understatement.

My and my boyfriend went to eat here after remembering that the last time we went we'd had a really nice meal. I ordered the Mac and cheese bites with the rarebit and beer glaze, the actual bites were nice but that glaze had no business being there, it really should've come separately as it should be a choice to add it. I personally hated it and my boyfriend tried some and he thought it was disgusting too.

Every time I eat at the George it gets worse.I used to love it there, especially the burger. In fact it was my favourite burger in town.

Staff are ridiculously slow and unnecessarily rude. After providing the wrong drink, the bartender rolled her eyes at me before actually providing the correct drink - with no apology.

On first appearances this seemed like a good choice for a lunchtime snack. Friendly cheerful staff and pleasant ambience.

Had Brunch at the George and was very disappointed. Firstly two of the four orders wasn't right! Plus the whole pub, bar, tables needed a really good clean. This used to be a good pub with great food but sadly doesn't live up to its past ...

We came in for a few drinks decor was nice, we all had a few haig clubmans, had a chat with the staff who really made us laugh and participated in a great evening, fast service and a all round good day

My wife and I had the unfortunate experience of having breakfast here. We both ordered the veggie breakfast (about £8). It was meant to consist of 2 x veggie sausages,2 x eggs, beans,grilled mushrooms,tomato, sautéed potatoes and fresh bread (bloomer). Instead we got 1 sausage, 2 over cooked eggs, deep fried (smelt of chip fryer) mushrooms,1/2 tomato, beans (which to be fair you can't really cock up ) and a slice of ordinary cheap white bread. When i complained we only got 1 sausage, the young waitress (who was doing her best TBF ) said she would get us another one. Unfortunately (or fortunately) we'd left before it arrived or the 'chef' found the recipe , either way very poor breakfast,badly 'cooked. This place has really gone down hill for one reason or another. We wont be back.
