Very posh J Wetherspoon pub. Nice atmosphere and does not feel like a cheap chain pub!

"We all know I love a Wetherspoon, But anyway, I visited Alton for a friend's wedding and stopped in a local hotel. As they didn't serve food, we used this place for breakfast most mornings and one evening meal We enjoyed lovely breakfasts on our three morning visits, with plenty of good-quality, unlimited teas and coffees. However, in the evening, the staff seemed indifferent to the place. There were a few issues going on, but mine was that the table was dirty. I asked the same staff member twice to clear and wipe it, we got also our food before our drinks. That wouldn't stop me from returning, as it's still value for money, and I know this isn't the usual Wetherspoon standard."

I always eat here and enjoy it so much. Good prices for the food you receive. Nice place to eat lunch and dinner with family friends or your partner.

Had a great time here. Food was standard Wetherspoons fare (I’m a veteran!😊) but very good. Staff were especially hekpful when we presented my aunt with her birthday cake, which was really appreciated. Thank you! Hope to be back soon.

Had both a dinner and drinks, and a breakfast, over the course of a weekend in Alton. This is probably the nicest spoons I've ever been to. Very nice outdoor areas, staff very great.

The menu is less varied than it used to be if you do not want a burger. If you do want a burger, there is more variety. It's basically something from the grill and not much of anything else. Great value, of course, and the food you do get is decent enough for a budget restaurant.

Just a quick drop in for a wonderful tall cold oj & lemonade.

Shocking poor service, incompetent kitchen staff and management. Clueless about service and rectifying issues. Handed back food that was not even lukewarm to be told it's fine it's been probed! Laughable behaviour. Handed partial refund with no ounce of an apology even after sending out a vegetarian plate with chicken on it. Avoid at all possibilities even if on a budget.

Bar staff prompt and helpful but food was only just warm. Atmosphere was not conducive to staying for a relaxed drink after breakfast... but you get what you pay for, and prices are very reasonable

It's a Wetherspoons, from the cheap, tasty and slightly unhealthy food to the carpet supplied with adhesive on so you stick to it. The staff are generally efficient and friendly, unlike a lot of other branches I've been in. One caveat is that the WiFi there is a bit rubbish. You'll need phone data to use the app to order.

Great cheap place for breakfast Egg's are not the best but you get what you pay for

Literally had my food ripped away from me, even though I ordered my food half an hour before they told us we had to move inside Manager told us they could justify it because I was still eating whilst they were moving everyone inside. George, the manager, said that because we’d been asked to move inside that it was ok for the server to rip my food away. Awful establishment. Don’t bother.

A regular cycling coffee stop and bacon butty. Always good!

Pleasent enough, cheap, but you'll need patience if you want to get served at the bar. Use the table service app and have a seat while you wait.

The best thing about this place is the outdoor area where is lovely to seat and relax. The food is not one of the best JDs I’ve ever tasted. The last time I have ordered the mixed grilled dish and the pork stake was not well cooked!

Nothing wrong with cheap but cheap and nasty… no! Probably the slowest serving bar I have ever had to suffer. I’ve made 3/4 visits at different times. Awful every time. Not even busy and still slow to serve. I will not be going again.

Food is cold, service dreadful and the place is filthy

Honestly, it’s cheap and it feels cheap. Food is cheap, cant stand at the bar, can’t take your dog in, can’t play table football, pool etc, no dartboard, no volume on the tv, no music, one star for cheap. The only reason it’s popular is it’s cheaper than other pubs buts it’s the no fun pub.

Having not been for a while I did visit this time with some slight apprehension, my last visit was disappointing, however, taking aside it needs new carpets throughout the food has improved and that is possibly why the food area was very busy, the Beer selection was as usual first class fir whatever reason The Ivy has improved across the board.

By the numbers, cheap as chips JDW. It's not their best, but it's what you expect.

Food is pretty standard. Can't complain too much though because the head chef is a microwave. The servers are always friendly and i haven't had my orders messed up. As a non drinker i don't like how the only way to enter is through the bar area.

Lovely Wetherspoons on the corner in Alton. Was amazed how the how the coffee was only £1.04 with free refills. The lady that served me was really nice and as I popped out to collect my car still allowed me the free refill. Great spot to get some sunshine as this place gets the sun all day and is popular in the summer. Huge pay and display carpark to the rear and right next to Sainsbury’s.

Didn't have many items instock. Food was not very warm when it arrived. But staff were friendly.

One of orders didn't make it to the kitchen. Whilst they apologised my children were left without their food for an unacceptable period of time.

All day brunch lacklustre. Cold eggs overcooked. Small portion size. Good beer selection . Needs an injection of generosity on meal size and food temperature at the table.

Great pub to meet greet eat and chill. Easy parking, not far from Alton Station town centre and next to Sainsburys, to have a pint after shopping. Plenty of seating some secluded and there are log fires in winter. What not to like, better place than the office to catch up on emails.

Such a lovely Wetherspoons, to bad I could hear the female staff member slagging of customers for sharing a kiss, sorry did you not get a kiss under the mistletoe this year girl. Jealous of a happy couple having a date night.

Visited today for lunch with friends. Very busy as you’d expect this time of the year & the schools on holiday. The food was fine & arrived promptly. However, the tables & seating were dirty. My chair was filthy & had what looked like years of grime, especially on the arms. The floor of the ladies toilets was sticky & I had to try 3 cubicles to find one with a serviceable door or lock. The place needs a thorough deep clean & toilets maintained before I think about returning. I’ve given good reviews in the past for this venue but standards have obviously slipped.

No eggs!!!!!!,cold food,2 slices of bacon,1 sausage,1 hash brown,£4.95!!!!!!!. Definately not happy with the content or quality of food. Will never walk through the doors again,complete waste of money. If you want to be sure you have a full stomach when you leave then I advise eat elsewhere. If it was me that paid I would have demanded my money back. Last time I walk in there.

I am sure I'm just wasting my time writing this bad review because their head office clearly don't seem to care. this must be the worst establishment in the country , all the bad reviews I have read I concur with. this place needs a really good shake up ,but as long as they are making profits they won't care,won't be coming back or my friends and family

Went in for a breakfast full English Stone cold. Was like eating hard rubber. Very disappointed.

The place is looking quite tired and the standard of food has also declined. 11.5 chips on the plate for a main meal? Come on! We know the booze is cheap, but don't let the food go down hill. Our server did go and fetch a bowl of chips as even he thought it was poor.

Breakfast was disgusting, the only hot part was the sausage, everything else was stone cold. The drink, most of it was on the tray or spilt on the table when it was brought out. Haven’t been for ages, and will definitely not be back it has gone down hill loads since I was last here

Have called in here regularly for a while.Always found it good value for money and pleasant.However the last few times we've called in lots of things on menu not available.Also when food arrived it was cold.Will be giving it a miss for a while.

Massive spoons, huge beer garden out back, lovely staff, decent prices, and a brilliant atmosphere. It's also worth mentioning to designated drivers, there's a car park out back that's free after 18:00

Well what an amazing pub - definitely barged its way into my top 10 spoons. A spoons that leaves its traditional decor far behind and embraces a wonderful meter of old and new. First of all, outside: how much seating does one place require? Heaps apparently and it's all here on all three sides. The bar is opposite the main entrance with a good deal of seating in front of it. Then it's down some stairs (although there is a little lift for those who need it) to a warren of little rooms and seating areas spread over the level. The staff were very friendly and constantly doing something- always a good sign. The brekkie was perfect as was the Guinness.

Rude staff, refused my family freedom of opinion, and feelings, blackmailed us to either be quiet or be banned, tables were covered in alcohol and food, nothing was clean and food was cold and undercooked

Didn't get told bits of our order were not available - even when given our meals, then they can't substitute or reimburse due to the system - what was managed arrived after we'd finished everything else. Sauce for steak wasn't available, and it took 15mins for them to substitute - steak kinda eaten/cold by then. Food wasn't exactly hot when served. The manager of the shift did his best, but not the greatest experience.

A usual quick stop to wetherspoons that I have been to many times usually leaves me a satisfied customer. However, on this occasion, it was truly appalling. To have a limited menu due to low stock is one thing, but to charge me then turned up empty-handed is another. The refund should be with you in 5 working days. It better be. The pizza was stone cold and surly frying an egg has to be the easiest task imaginable. Not this time, crusty and hard. Disgusting is a word I will have to use on this occasion. The steak medium, please, not raw. And if ordering ice cream, not ideal, leaving under a hot counter as it tends to melt. Will be skipping weatherspoons from now on. Thanks.

After ordering the staff member brought the cups for coffee which were dirty when the food arrived the cutlery was dirty, they forgot the maple syrup and by the time it came the food was almost cold

Food arrived cold. I politely and gently asked for a replacement. Despite how polite and friendly I was - no apology or appropriate response was given from the manager, who just ordered another plate and huffed off. The replacement food never arrived. Other tables around us started complaining that they also hadn’t received food to replace their original food sent back. After roughly 40 mins I went to enquire about the food, and the manager was unprofessional, rude and argumentative. After losing my temper (probably because I was starving by this point) I asked for a full refund, which she didn’t even give me, she was too busy coming up with excuses - explaining the food was “now ready” and “you moved tables” (which we did after 5 mins of ordering, 2 meters from the original table). It wasn’t even busy. The amount of people looking around for their food and sending back unacceptable food is not the fault of the customers. It’s poor service, poor management, and abysmal customer service all round.

Food was good but could have been great. Suppose my taste buds are sophisticated.

Having visited since before the venue formally opened, I am in a good position to pass judgement. Sadly the verdict is not great. The execution of dishes and service used to be good. In the last eight months this has changed. Dishes are frequently under or overcooked (rare steaks abound and when recooked are served burnt with cold fries and veg) service is sloppy and careless and the bill is often wrong (in their favour of course) Staff routinely "forget" or even argue (!) with customers. When I have spoken with duty managers, they seem completely disinterested and offer no compensation. In short, the place has deteriorated to the point that I will no longer visit. A real shame as it started well. Update August 24th 2023. Burgers small tables sticky and next to no fries. Still 1 star.

Venue is quite nice. Shame about the service. Wrong drink arrived. Food took 45 minutes to arrive. It was not busy. Food came out Luke warm.

When we went there Unfortunately they had run out of Mayonnaise. Plus we asked the guy that served us if they had any Tomatoe Ketchup he said he would check and he never came back to let us know.

Absolutely disgusted with the way the manager handled himself with our situation. Way to young to be in the position and not properly trained to deal with it. The attitude was " I don't care about you and your problem" good luck and won't visit again.

Breakfast was very disappointing compared to other wetherspoons, also we was waiting a long time even though they had just opened.

This is one of the fanciest Witherspoon's I have been in - it is huge, with lovely seating inside and out. The food was average for spoons, and pairs wonderfully with many pints of alcoholic beverages. The staff were nice, however my group was asked for ID 5 times - not a fan of that.

Had an enjoyable lunch. Some of the seats had sloping backs which I found unusual and uncomfortable.

Tasty and affordable meals and drinks, as well as great atmosphere, what's not to like.

Were out for the day so stopped by for breakfast at about 8am, ordered breakfast and there were items missing. When we asked for these items to be provided, we got them but they were straight out of the fridge..we ordered hot breakfast and were told they're never served hot as they had a sugar coating and they would stick together if heated(maple cured bacon). Spoilt the meal and there was no excuse so early in the day. My partner had over toasted toast, again no excuse when it was as quiet as it was.

Table wasn’t clean, table number was missing to make an order, service was slow due to business. Disabled lift stop working so wasn’t able to get out properly and had to be escorted out via a fire door (that didn’t work properly either)

Every surface was absolutely filthy. Requested a cloth but was told that someone would be round to clean our table, admittedly, the boy did come relatively quickly but only really distributed the food and detritus into a slightly thinner layer and pushed the larger bits onto the floor. The two cold breakfasts arrive in about 20 minutes, eggs were hard, beans were slopped off the side and none of it was above 20°C. Only one set of cutlery and after the realisation that he wasn’t going to bring any more I had to go and find my own. Very poor value in my opinion!

They were busy, it was a Saturday lunchtime. The service and food was fantastic, and excellent value for money. P.S. their Breakfast is top notch too.
