The worst customer service I have ever experienced. They don't seem to know what they are doing. I booked a double room with breakfast back in Feb 24 for the 15th June 2024. Unfortunately I had to cancel this and rebook for another date. Luckily I kept all correspondence relating to this because they called me on the 15th June to ask what time I was checking in. They didn't believe I had cancelled and said I would be charged. I sent them the confirmation twice before they agreed to not charge me. No apology though! I then got an email to say they were also cancelling my July booking because the price has increased and they wanted me to rebook at the higher price. I told them to shove it, there is a Premier inn down the road that was cheaper and way easier to book. Awful place.

Nice room, but noisy above the pub below. The room comes with tea, coffee and a Biscuit. The bed is super comfortable and it made for a great nights sleep. On the other hand, I wish that I had read the responses from the owner on this site. It speaks volumes towards their attitude. You stay here at a premium price. With that price you expect a premium service. Rude, abrupt and disrespect, topped off with a poor attitude. All this and I paid a pretty penny for the pleasure! The customer is always right. I won’t be back here.

A wonderfully welcoming spot right in the center of town with a warm fire, delicious beverages (both beers and the coffee is exquisite) and great food. The rooms as cozy and you really feel like the place has been there since the beginning of time. That said, the rooms feel fresh and clean and the beds are comfy. While currently not dog-friendly, we understand there's plans to bring some rooms online which would allow four-legged guests to be as welcome as the two-legged ones.

We ordered a salad which on the menu contained chickpeas and feta. When it arrived it was a nice mix of salad and as I ate it I discovered there were no chickpeas or feta in the salad. In fact no protein of any sort. We queried it with the waitress when she eventually showed and she said query it with the manager on your way out. The manager although acknowledged that they had no chickpeas or feta refused to do anything about it as we had finished the meal in spite of not being advised that these ingredients were unavailable at the point of order. There was no apology and we had prepaid. Will not go back again.

We visited the pub about 4 o’clock, nice decor but unfortunately my friend has a nut allergy we asked at the bar if Some cakes had nuts in. Bing from a waitress point of view You should’ve realised that your customer had a nut allergy or even confirmed it with a customer, the cake we ended up buying had walnuts in it. The cake was labeled incorrectly and was labeled as a different cake. My friend started to flareup, we didn’t have to get an ambulance out due to having medication. We approached the manager and just seem to argue with us that my friend should’ve had a card on her, and putting it back on the customer which is unacceptable. We didn’t ask for a refund as some of the cake had been eaten but wanted to make the manager aware that this is dangerous. She was extremely defensive and argumentative and made it out like it was my friends fault, even though she had asked.

A little while ago my partner and I met with another couple for brunch at The Old Drum. We had never eaten here before but I always liked coming here for a drink as it's a very nice pub with a lovely garden. Unfortunately, we had a very disappointing experience. My friend and I ordered the overnight oats and my partner the yoghurt & granola. The overnight oats were tasteless and made with turmeric (didn't say on the menu) which gave it a strange taste, not enjoyable at all. My partner's yoghurt came in a tiny pot, with another small pot of granola and a jug of milk (????). When we said that we didn't like the overnight oats (both of us) the waitress got extremely defensive and said that it's a special recipe from Devon (I believe) and everyone loves it. Also, we should have asked about the ingredients. She was quite rude and kept walking off as she was very much on her own in the restaurant. She was pretty stressed out but that's not our fault. We eventually ordered some toast and jam instead which was ok apart from the fact that when we asked for extra toast she brought us nasty white bread rather than the nice sourdough that we already had on the table. We did not have to pay for the overnight oats so that was positive but I definitely would not recommend this place for brunch. I doubt I'll be coming back for food.

Emailed ahead to book a week in advance for my partners 30th birthday, the staff member informed me just to 'walk in' as they were not doing bookings. To my horror we 'walked-in' like advised to find the establishment CLOSED! Totally ruined the special evening as spent 2.5 hours looking for another place. I later emailed my concern, considering maybe it was unfortunate circumstances such as covid as to why they had closed- but actually no, I was just argued with- VERY rude and unprofessional. Asked for a Sunday roast for vegetarians. Was told it was possible. What wasn't made clear was that there would be no gravy... apparently it is against the principles of the establishment to not make anything on site. A port wine reduction is easy enough. When, who I can only presume is the manageress asked how the food was and we mentioned it was dry she then launched into a tirade about how she had made it clear that they didn't do a vegetarian roast... all while we were trying to eat and all after she had offered us one on the phone. If this is the case then don't offer one. The components of the meal were lovely, but so dry. As a British citizen a roast dinner is an institution. OK... we didn't have meat and some may consider this a crime, but as a whole meal there are standards that need to be met. It is worse to have a roast without gravy than to not have a roast at all. To then have someone keep on and on and effectively ruin what was left of the 'meal' was the final straw. As a result of this incident alone I never wish to return to the establishment. I do not expect to be argued with as a paying customer Disgraceful Rest of the staff absolutely lovely Such a shame

Positives - downstairs pub is stylish, in a good location and the young staff are all v friendly and smiley. When we asked for additional towels or to borrow the iron they were attentive and helpful. Breakfast is decent too.Negatives - the 'Deluxe Double' that we booked was not deluxe. This was the terminology on Booking.com, as well as the website itself. Whilst the amenities were suitable and yes the bedroom/bedroom were decorated, the size of it was tiny. My partner and I stayed in Room 1 'Maze', and the pictures you see online are hugely misleading. For two (normal-sized!) people to move around the room wasn't easy. And this is all before mentioning the blind for the window that looks out onto the outdoor terrace doesn't come down all the way, so changing isn't ideal and you are unsurprisingly woken up by the sun! I appreciate it's been incredibly tough for the hospitality industry this year (which I repeatedly said to the owner when I flagged these issues), but I still think it's fair to point out the Old Drum expectation vs reality was a let-down. Owner was defensive (and bizarrely told me it's something I should pick up with Booking.com myself), though it half sounded as though she'd take my feedback on board. Having read other reviews it sounds as though Room 1 'Maze' is the worst room, so I hope for future bookings the hotel are a little more honest and fair with its pricing and advertisement (and maybe see if you can put in a request for a different room if you are interested in booking).

Haven't been back here for a while - and the change in ownership has clearly resulted in some changes, not all for the best. The re-decoration looks pretty good and the pub has an attractive appearance. We were hoping our visit on a freezing winter's evening would be enhanced by a warm fire (I am sure they used to have one on the go during the winter) - but alas this was not working. Our server explained it was "blocked up".The menu was fairly limited - just 3 or 4 choices for each course and steep pricing also. We paid 18 each for a fairly small lamb main course which was nice but over-priced. The wine list prices were even higher - typically in the £28-40 range which seems crazy for a pub restaurant. Service at 10% is automatically added to the bill - another "London" thing that's spreading out across the rest of England. Overall a pleasant evening but we won't be rushing back to spend over £70 on just two main courses and a bottle of wine anytime soon I'm afraid.

Wonder if this place has changed hands. Two young members of staff struggling to cope with very few customers. The beefburger which promised much had a processed cheese slice with the rustic chips barely cooked. The chicken escalope was good. The toilets were dirty, with the sinki in the ladies loo was bunged up. The disabled toilet was also dirty and unkempt. Today is Saturday and the last recorded check was Thursday. Really poor show from this place which used to be a little gem not so long ago. Incredibly mediocre, two small wines, one burger and one chicken escalope, just under £42.00.

My family and I went here on Saturday for my grandpa's father's day meal and we were unimpressed. My mum and her fiance were regulars before and have always enjoyed it, however I believe there recently has been a staff change and it has changed the dynamic completely. Our waitress was lovely that was the only positive. However, our empty glasses stayed on our table for our whole meal and we had to ask for salt and pepper. Our food was ok but not worth the money or something to rave about. My mum had sea bass which was £18 but was the tiniest meal ever. And the market vegetable side was a handful of asparagus that they ended up taking off the bill. They also accidentally added a bottle of malbec onto our bill which we never had. I always thought this pub had little atmosphere and this experience showed that wasn't the only problem. My mum and her fiance will probably refrain from coming back, which is a shame as they used to love it.

I booked to stay at the Old Drum on my wedding night - the pub has rooms above it. Unfortunately when I arrived they were closed (despite the fact we arrived well before their closing time). We spent nearly half an hour outside in the rain trying to get in before we had to try and find somewhere else to stay - all of this happening in the rain on the night of our wedding! When we contacted the pub the next day they said we had lied (despite evidence to show we phoned them multiple times) and that they would still be charging us for them room - and that if we had a problem with this we should 'see us in court'. It later emerged that the staff closed early. Obviously awful customer service, but above all this, just really not very nice to treat people like this! I'd be very wary about booking here, and to think about whether this is the kind of person you would like to give your business to. There are lots of lovely places in Petersfield. Fully equipped bosch kitchen, v comfy bed, crisp linen, waterfall shower, water replenished daily, smart TV, an endless yummy breakfast made to order, an army of young men running the place with no fuss. The pub is lively so a bit noisy and there is no parking, so you will need to pay for the town car park directly behind the pub. However when you are in the smartest pub in town which sells rhubarb gin and real ale and has rooms equipped with shower caps and scrunchies in neat packets, bathrobes, soft towels an induction hob with a whistling kettle, a nespresso machine and soft-closing drawers; who cares?

We booked 3 nights at The Old Drum and I expressly said that as my husband was on crutches we would need to eat in each evening. On going down to dinner on the first evening, a Thursday, we were told the kitchen did not open on a Thursday. The following evening we had dinner there and although the service was a bit ramshackle the food was quite good. However we were woken 4 times between midnight and 1.30 am by loud voices in the kitchen below our room to the extent I had to go out and ask them to be quiet. The smell of cooking from the kitchen permeated the room to the extent that I felt quite nauseated. On Saturday morning we decided we really could not bear it any longer and checked out arguing that we would not pay for the third night as the conditions were unacceptable. We signed a credit card statement for £245 but were given no receipt. On receipt of our credit card statement we found two extra payments had been taken without authorisation. We would not recommend staying here.

None of us could believe just how beautiful the room was - the decor is amazing, it was massive, had a great ‘feel’, the shower was top notch, great Telly, dual aspect, Victorian fireplaces...the list goes on. Very friendly staff and the breakfast was great too. Can recommend without hesitation.

We came for a family meal and were not disappointed! Decor inside and garden/patio area is beautifully designed. Staff very friendly and made us feel welcome. The food was fresh, seasoned and well presented. We will be back!

I came here with my daughter on Saturday 7 July 2018 for some beer and lunch. The Old Drum has improved a lot over the last few years. it is posh and classy inside and out. The beer garden is a big patio with lots of concrete, but also lots of greenery, so it has a nice outdoor feel to it. inside looked good too. Good selection of beers and interesting food on the menu. My only complaint is the cost of the food. My daughter had very tasty cold soup and some crunch bread for £6 - not bad. But I had a pasta and asparagus main course for £13, and it was more like a childs portion - very tasty, just not much of it! I guess quality isn't cheap. But even so, £13 for a half a bowl of pasta in sauce is a lot of money!

Went for a family evening meal and it took an hour and a half for the food to come! It was 10 pm before we ate. None of the staff apologised or updated us. A dreadful experience, we will not be going again!

We spent one night in the old drum. The staff were very friendly and the quality of the room, decor and breakfast were wonderful. Our room named charcoal was small, if we stayed again we would insist a larger room.

On the website it said pets welcome, we added in the notes bringing 2 dogs. They contacted back and said they only have one pet friendly room and it was not available and so could not accommodate. I requested refund but was refused even though they could not provide what was advertised.

First time we tried this place and were impressed, food was brilliant! Lamb was delicious! Only downside being that we couldn't get a table for a second visit as they were fully booked!

I have to say that the a lot of people recommended us the place, but them and us were kind of disappointed. I think it was a really nice place and something happened. It was empty and even if we were the only ones there, they took a lot of time on getting the food. We don't know what happens to the place, maybe we went in lower season, but it looks amazing, sadly out experience wasn't.

The rooms here are very tidy and stylish with comfortable beds, Nespresso machines, and modern TVs. The showers are excellent; as good as you’d hope for in a 4 star hotel.

I booked a single room for two nights several months in advance, as I was attending an event at Goodwood. No confirmation from the hotel was ever forthcoming, even though I called a couple of times to check that I was actually booked in. On arrival I was asked to pay before seeing the room, not something I approve of. The room, Fern, was very nicely appointed, with a very good bathroom, good shower and quality toiletries. The bedroom had a Nespresso machine, kettle, and a quality TV with Apple Tv. All good so far, only small issue was that the radiator was hanging off the wall, as the bracket had become detached.

We have had a few good meals here and the quality of the food is excellent. I prefer sitting in the bar area or outside (weather permitting) as the lighting in the dining room isn't right - it's just too bright. Once they have sorted the lighting out, I'm sure we will visit more often!

My dad and I popped in for a quick lunch, the atmosphere is very nice and chilled. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious, I can’t recommend the fish finger sandwich enough, and anywhere with such a vast gin selection can only ever be lovely in my opinion. The nicest lunch I’ve had in Petersfield for a very long time.

My boyfriend booked a table here as a lovely surprise and we were not disappointed. We have the pork chop and it was perfect as well as the vanilla and white chocolate cheesecake. My only worry is with the smaller menu we may run out of things to try when coming back.

Had a great lunch for three of us yesterday. The steak I had was really good for a pub offering and the others liked their fish and chips and burger. The service was excellent (well done Dillon) and we will go back again.

Popped in for a drink and fast friendly service and lovely and warm inside! Was staying at the other end of the town so didn't need food! Other family near us got food and seemed really content! Lovely place to visit very spacious and clean 👌 will pop in next time in the area 😀

We went for one of the midweek roast events and what a disappointment it was. There was a very lukewarm welcome when we arrived and we were directed to the table with a point of the finger. The food was served quickly and just plonked in front of us. There was no asking what we’d pre-ordered so two of us got the wrong meals. This was rectified when we told them. It was hot but was very mediocre. I think my lamb died of old age. I couldn’t cut it, it was that tough. The potatoes were OK, the peas were peas that had once been frozen, carrots overcooked, the gravy was like water, the parsnips were OK and the saving grace was the cheese sauce on the cauliflower/brocolli. The Apple crumble was nice but again just plonked in front of us. The custard was lumpy. How much was all of this? It was a whopping £25 a head without so much as a jug of water on the table. It was daylight robbery. We wont be back.

No longer a pub - it was closed down months ago and has been undergoing a lot of construction work. There is local talk of it having been purchased some type of medical conglomerate.
