We arrived at noon for a reserved table for lunch . On arrival we were informed that two of the main meals were unavailable and there were no chips with the meals but we could have fries. The 6X beer was also unavailable although it was being served later on . In addition to the very reduced choice of main meals we were told a Wedding party was due soon and we should order our meal promptly ! We ate our mains which were very average and asked for the dessert menu and a coffee only to be told that there was no desserts available and hot drinks were not being served because of the Wedding Party. This was very unsatisfactory and we asked to speak to the manager who basically said there was nothing he would do as the main priority was the wedding party and he would not entertain a discount for an incomplete meal. A very poor response , a course on customer service is required and we will never use this pub again. I should have been warned when I made the telephone booking that there was a limited service !!!!!

Me and my boyfriend went for dinner and the lasagne I ordered was luke warm, took ages to come out and didn’t come with any chips or garlic bread like it used to. Lasagne was £20 and then chips + garlic bread was an extra £10 (£5 each) so you’re looking at £30 for Luke warm lasange garlic bread and chips. Salad had a hair on not impressed. You don’t want a luke warm dinner when you’re pregnant not even sure if the meat was cooked not ideal. However , My boyfriend had a burger which he enjoyed but I had to send mine back.

Well what a disappointment that was😞 Took friends to this pub for Sunday lunch today. It looks so good on entering the pub, lovely decor etc & very clean& friendly. However the food was very under par & the service very slow! Small menu choice & a few of those weren’t available, Burnt Yorkshire pudding, no potatoes had to ask for some, undercooked (raw not pink) tough beef ( see picture chopped up for dogs!) It was shocking! Spoke to manager who was less than understanding & took no responsibility for the catalogue of disasters. He offered free deserts but our friends had to leave to go to Worcester so he deducted one beef dinner & that was it! Will we go again, sadly not! Great building, beautiful village but very underwhelmed by the George 😞

We used to be Sunday regulars, but haven't been for a while and don't have any intention of going back, as we were put off when they introduced a £10 deposit to book a table for Sunday lunch, then forgot to deduct it from the bill. Is this practice still happening?

The setting is quaint but not extraordinary, the service was acceptable but not exemplary, the food (Cheese board) as a light lunch, was ordinary with obscure contents, nuts being the overall focus and very light on very bland cheese biscuits. The salad was also loaded with nuts and very 'busy' being so finely chopped into just recognisable ingredients. The cheese board itself just about claimed that description including an obvious off-cut. There was a curious splash of chutney free running on the board, very tasty but running over the edges so had to be rescued and repositioned to prevent run off. The overall impression was odd.

Pleasant service but food grossly overpriced, fish and chips £18.20 included aioli mayonnaise, tartare sauce and horrid minted peas all three in tiny pots, and the chips were less than fresh, same price for ham, egg, chips and salad and lasagne, salad and chips, not the most inspiring of places and won’t be back.

A rather pretentious venue given the location in a very traditional English village with an 11th century castle opposite! Over priced food, poor service and un helpful bar staff. (Would not take my snack order without the chips,) Such a pity as a lovely location.

This night was absolutely magical, petals on the table, candle light, secluded feeling, romance, and exceptional service. Our server Sam was an absolute delightful, fun, friendly, and helpful person. He was very polite, funny, and accommodating. He made us feel so beautifully welcome and connected with the place. He was intuitive and did not make us feel pressured into choosing. We were the last to leave, yet never made us feel like we were being rushed out. It felt like we could be there all night if we had wanted. He was even grateful for a tiny tip, as we were on a budget. I think he’s genuinely such a wonderful person and I hope this review can fill him with the same energy he gave us. Thank you Sam and all of those who were working tonight, our valentines was absolutely magical and that was at your sacrifice and service. We will definitely be back!

We stayed at The George in January, it was a quiet weekend , we had dinner Saturday and Sunday and stayed both nights in the Castle Room, the room was spacious, clean and had excellent amenities, not just a kettle but a coffee machine, mini fridge, water in room etc, lovely extra touches that are welcomed. The food was lovely, staff welcoming and the fire in the pub lovely to sit near whilst enjoying a drink. Our family joined us and stayed on Saturday and they liked their room as well, especially the bathroom which had a very spacious shower. All in all, great village pub with a very traditional feel, well worth booking .

Where to start... firstly We walked into a charming looking food orientated village pub. It was an ideal 1/2 way point to meet up with family. I approached our table and joking asked one of our party (who was from Scotland and used to much chillier weather) if he was feeling the southern chill because he was seated with his coat firmly in tack. He replied yes there's no heating on you might want to keep your coat on too. as I looked at the neighbouring table they to had 1/2 the table wearing there coats. we settled and ordered soup for starters. It was 'luke' warm. then there was a kafuffle on the neighbouring table and a gentleman we assume was choking by the position of the table seating he was boxed in and dived past our table to escape upon doing so coughed liquid over my 17 month old grandson and daughter in law. we assume he did not realise due to incapacity and there was no apology. Up to this point we were tolerating the experience. THE LAST STRAW... as with any 17 month old they get bored I had taken him out for a walk he walks independently and I was walking directly alongside up a couple of step and then to the door to the carpark where I walk up and down the village entertaining the Grandson and return to the pub. As we were exiting the pub a waiter (or owner) I don't know who he was rushes through I pass pleasantries. The pub was at best 1/3 full of it's capacity staff were standing idle. Anyway some time later I repeat the grandson walk at the same point the same man passes I jokingly say I have Deja Vue we have been here before. Up on which I get a dressing down by said man stating the pub doesn't allow children to run around. Shocked at what happened I went back to the table fuming. My grandson was not running around he was being guided by me he is 17 months. So I eventually complained to deal with this in house. I spoke directly to the person concerned. about the WHOLE Catastrophe and his reply I am sorry but it is health and safety I would not want to drop anything on the little one because I can't see him. End of. Well Health and safety you work in a public place serving customers with children and impairment. You should have excellent observation skills and carry out your duties with due diligence and risk adverse. You were running around literally when there was no need to so as stated you were not rushed off your feet and had enough staff. I think you need professional training on front of house service and complaint handing. ON A Positive note the food was lovely (once past the cold starter) The beef was cooked perfectly for my taste and the veg was tasty. So front of house let the kitchen staff down and I do not review lightly. I tried to deal with this direct but you weren't interested. The guy in the red sweater! I will get heard and give an honest account of our visit for interested parties to make their choice. We paid our bill in full and left.

Lovely pub, lovely staff and lovely position. Have visited Nunney Castle and booked to have a Sunday roast at the George. Three of us ordered the beef, which you pay extra for. As soon as we tried to cut our meat we realised we needed better cutlery and we were supplied with steak knives which were extremely cumbersome to use, however it was not the cutlery at fault, it was the meat. The meat was very difficult to cut and even harder to chew, very tough indeed. Two of us left most of our meat and when the waitress cleared our plates we told her why, she just continued walking away saying sorry. We were expecting that perhaps a more senior person would come and find out what was wrong but that did not happen. Would definitely not return for a roast again, when you are paying extra for a particular meat they should ensure they have the correct chef working on that day. The potatoes did not taste fresh and there was only root vegetables supplied, no green veg at all! It was also not very hot. Poor show all round I feel.

We have been travelling around Somerset sampling local restaurants and was disappointed with the quality of the food in the George. Our daughter had a £9 pizza which was half a cooked frozen pizza. Cheese board was average, and my wife’s order that they initially got the order wrong was ok. The establishment had a sticky feel and a greasy food smell. Our table top felt like it hadn’t been cleaned for a long time. The prices were also too high. The lady that served us was nice.

Visited The George Inn whilst on holiday in the area and must say disappointed with the experience. Our order of drinks was incorrect, wrong wine and no ice in the coke (we were asked if we wanted ice). From a quite small menu we were informed that there was only one type of pie available. One of our party ordered lamb however about 5-10 mins later the waitress returned and said the lamb was now not available. Food was ok if not a little overpriced. We then asked for the dessert menu. After about 10 minutes the waitress hadn’t returned so we decided to leave and pay the bill. When checking the bill we had been charged for the lamb which was originally ordered. Overall the experience wouldn’t encourage me to return.

I would just like to say a very big thank you to the George inn and their staff for hosting my mothers 70th birthday partyThe food was excellent the service was outstandingTanya went above and beyond to make the best surprise birthday party even though we were running late. they were very accommodating and Patient. The venue room was so cosy and beautifully decorated, gave us plenary of privacy and allowed for good social distancing. The staff who served us were friendly and professional they went out of their way to make it a good day all round!

Fantastic village pub in a lovely location. Staff helpfully nice and Covid prepared. Menu somewhat suffers from sameness (every other pub does this menu) and my plea would be to add some local distinctiveness and sourcing information to bring a bit of Somerset special and lift it above ordinary. In the middle of traditional cider country it would be great to respect locality and artisan cider makers by adding a few to the bar. Otherwise this is a winner.

My wife and I came to the George tonight for a meal. We were blown away by how attentive the staff were. The food was very well cooked, and the portion sizes were very good. I did the 3 course, prawn cocktail, steak, and Eton mess, and coffee to follow. Sandra had the chicken supreme, and Bailey’s creme brûlée, with de caffeinated coffee. We decided to go back, as we had our wedding reception here 5 years ago, next month. It bought back some lovely memories. I think the staff and food make this a regular stop for us in the future. Thank you everyone.

The George - A Memorial LunchIn September, we were back to Nunney, almost a year from our first, previous visit, but rather than to explore, we were in the village for a memorial, for a good friend. We started the morning at The George, a favorite pub of our departed friend, and then walked next door, to the church, for the memorial service. When that was done, after a bit, everyone gathered at The George for a memorial lunch, with wine and brews - just how he would have wanted it.Though we took over about 80% of The George, the staff never missed a beat. The lunch was great, and the wines (from a very short list) flowed, as did many brews - a more often-severed beverage at The George. The food was good, as was the service, and especially as we had such a large group. We took over the entire back of the pub, and spilled out into the lovely courtyard. Do be careful, if walking there, as there are some ancient pavers, that stick slightly above grade, so as to not twist an ankle, which I almost did, and I had only had two glasses of wine at the time - just watch your step.I wanted for nothing, and neither did my wife. The staff were so very accommodating, and cheerful. Though it was a sad time, we were now ready to toast a life “well lived,” and memorialize our friend, as he would have wanted, and The George’s staff was so helpful in that respect.

On the evening of the 31st we went to The George and were greeted with a friendly atmosphere where everyone one drinking and laughing together. Later that evening found out happy hour had been extended for an extra half an hour! Hooray! This was due to mark the day of Brexit, also there both vote to leave/stay and non voters at the pub drinking together happily to mark the occasion. We had a fantastic night and will be returning very soon!

Apparently it held a Brexit celebration party. Some people might like to know that in order to avoid it.

Booked a table of 8 last minute. Fitted us in, no problem. Fantastic food and service. I can honestly say it’s the best Sunday lunch we’ve had in a very long time. Everything cooked to perfection. We will definitely be returning and highly recommend to all.

Booked to meet for a quiet Friday night meal with friends. Arrived to hear an out of tune and very loud live band which had not been mentioned when booking a table. The band continued to play throughout the evening, becoming louder and more out of tune as the night progressed. Menu said could deliver dairy and gluten free food. Disappointed to find no wheat free beer and food was delivered gluten and dairy free only by removing items from the plate rather than cooking food without the allergens. Waitress tried to offer a peppercorn sauce minus the cream... Ended up with a wine sauce when someone else from the staff came to tell me what was about to occur. Wine sauce was like red water. Our friend ordered ox cheek which appeared undercooked and with a large line of gristle running through it. Free cheese platter offered instead. Brie turned up under ripe even though my friend had asked beforehand if it was ripe. For the price, portions were small as everything appeared in its own tiny bowl on a plate in an attempt to hide the lack of quantity. Pub food has to deliver these days. There are far better options around which we will use rather than return.

We spent a night at The George to celebrate my partner's birthday. I had always wanted to go there since visiting the village last year in connection with work (walking book revision). We had a really lovely room, which was great, but for the money charged (£145 B&B) I expected something really special. There was a lack of attention to detail – hoovers and cleaning materials left out in the corridor on the way to the breakfast room, dirty towels on the stairs, staff cleaning tables around us in the restaurant before we had finished eating. There was a poor choice of cereals at breakfast, DIY toast, and the whole atmosphere was one of keeping things as easy as possible for the staff (not their fault – we felt that no one had told them what to do/not do to make guests feel at home). For the money charged I expected better and was disappointed.

As the song (almost) goes, the weather outside was frightful, the inside quite delightful. We were greeted on arrival and shown to our table, drinks orders followed promptly. The menu offers a good choice, Our choices arrived, well presented, the steak was excellent. The ox cheek was very tasty and tender. Both of us very happy. Puddings followed, again both of us very happy with our choice. The smallish room we were in is one of several available. The atmosphere was friendly. Would we go again - of course we would. Prices are about mid range.

Was really excited to try out this restaurant. Had read the media coverage and have tremendous respect for the owners. It was busy, nice weather had brought the crowds out to the outside dining area. It seems impossible to get good service these days, when you do it is rare. Has eveyone good left the industry post covid... There were plenty of staff on the floor, but systems and training were clearly lacking, and the basic good standards sadly lacking. As soon as we walked in lack of a clear greeting was a sign of what was to come. We ended up waiting far too long for our mains to arrive. Other tables also complaining and warning us about the lack of service. The place itself is beautifully & tastefully done. The menu reads incredibly well. The food did not disappoint. I sat eating the Fish Soup, trying to recall a better soup that I had ever eaten. This, I have to say was the best, absolutely incredible. The rest of the dishes were well cooked, and good, but nothing knock out. Rarely give reviews, but the lack of service was a big issue. One guy seemed to be more senior, but he was way out of his depth. Not even a goodbye as we left despite making eye contact with the Manager and floor staff! Would not recommend until the service is sorted out.

Coffee was fine but the floor in both the toilet and cafe were very dirty and unhygienic. Obviously not cleaned or checked for a long time.
