We live locally and thought we should give The George a try for Sunday lunch. We were extremely disappointed! On arrival we were waiting at the bar to be acknowledged for a long time, after eventually being seated at the table we were told by the waitress that she would get us some menus. We waited another 10 minutes for these to arrive and finally be asked what drinks we would like. When the drinks arrived we were asked what we would like. We ordered Camembert and were told that they didn’t have any so we decided to skip the starter. We asked for the chicken breast and beef roast dinners, as an extra we asked for the pigs in blankets but they didn’t have any of these either! When the food arrived I was extremely disappointed to see that the Chicken breast was actually a dried up chicken leg which had obviously been cooked hours ago and kept warm and the same with the potatoes, which were far too hard (not crispy just been kept warm for many hours!) I asked the waitress if there was Chicken breast as it stated breast on the menu, her reply was - well that is a chicken leg! She offered to swap it and I said, oh so you do have chicken breast? She replied no! When our glasses were empty no one asked if we wanted more drinks so we had to stop a waitress and ask her. We then finished as much as we could of the meal and went and paid at the bar even though the drinks never arrived they still tried to charge us for them so we had to ask for them to be removed. For the price of the roast, you can get much much better in the area with great service! I would not recommend the George for food at all but I have heard good things about atmosphere for the live music and drinking in the bar area. The restaurant area was extremely noisy and we were sat very close to a large family group when there was a table further away which would have been quieter. The waiting staff could 100% be friendlier and more attentive.

Great service, food, ambience- generally a wonderful experience. There were 22 of us, pre booked but menu choices sent in advance. The food, hot where appropriate, was hot and all three courses served simultaneously so no one was waiting . The staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. A wonderful evening

Stayed at The George to visit the Cotswolds Distillery. Well what can I say we had a great time. Tracy the owner very kindly took us to and from the Distillery which helped up tremendously. It was lovely to stay in such a lovely pub everyone was so friendly and helpful. The food was great and the rooms clean. There was even complimentary whisky and brandy on the landing!! Definitely go back again. Thank you Tracy and Sarah and hope to see you again soon.

We'd booked for the Dining Room but the young lady who met us suggested that we might like a table by the fire in the Bar .. As I am a big but sadly infrequent visitor and fan of the fireside at the George I jumped at this opportunity to do a bit of People Watching..The Bar here is an excellent place for this as the locals are talkative characters and worth putting Preservation Orders on . The fire crackled merrily as cherry logs burned, dogs made the odd whinny noises which dogs in pubs do in lieu of conversation. The Fine Old Hooky arrived and shortly afterwards The Roast Beef of Old England with ALL it's vegetable attendants appeared ..It was Splendid, Satisfying and Traditional ~ a description which could also apply to this fourteenth century institution..The Staff by the way were attentive, polite swift, and friendly. Full Marks from Me !

Brilliant meal - thank you to the chef ‘Windy’ and Tracey who runs the place. They have completely transformed the menu and quality of the food. Centring on pub classics but dine to a very high standard - with quality ingredients cooked to perfection. We have tried many different dishes recently - Duck, Beef and Guinness Casserole, Chick and Chorizo, Potato Skins, Burger and Chips; all cooked to the highest standard. Great people and a lovely atmosphere, and all at a reasonable price - thank you all!

We live in a neighbouring village and this was the first time we had visited the George since it has been taken over by new owners. It had gone downhill. Lovely setting, but despite booking a table when we arrived it was chaos and we had no idea where to go. Eventually after waiting at the bar for 30 mins we asked a waitress and she said to grab a table outside. There were none available. We then had to queue inside again to ask and were led to a dingy sticky table. Despite being a table of 6 we were given a single menu to share (which a neighbouring table of older-more-entitled people tried to pinch from us as they had one menu). Slow service, warm white wine, expensive but poor quality food (small portions and you get better quality at Weatherspoons), and service followed. We won't be visiting again.

Just returned from the most wonderful 2 days at The George .. We booked our wedding here and married at the church over the road.. Tracey and the team couldn't have made our special time more perfect.. we stayed here with family who had travelled to be with us ..all the rooms were perfect with everything we needed.. extremely comfortable beds lovely and clean. Breakfast was fabulous with a proper full English, cereal, and delicious fresh pastries available. We also had our reception for 50 people here with buffet and disco provided. Everything was perfect, and as we had discussed in advance. The whole team here truly went above and beyond to make everything exactly how we wanted, and everyone who attended thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality on offer and all hope to return at some point. Big thanks to all of you who worked really hard to make everything just perfect x

We stayed in Brailes for a week recently and visited The George twice - once for lunch and once for dinner. The food and service were great on both occasions. We had a 4-year old and 6-year old with us and the staff engaged with them really nicely. They also picked up on the fact that it was my husband’s birthday and put a candle in his dessert. The standout dishes were the lunches - a really fresh soup and a fantastic ploughman’s. The ambience is lovely - traditional pub but with a modern feel. More pubs should be like this one - highly recommended.

Popped in here after a walk in the area, Love a good pub and an ale and always on the agenda after a good walk. Sadly, disappointed with this one and won't return as this pub is an example on how not to be hospitable. As my wife ordered a drink, I sat at a table for two. A lady (I assume the landlady), then came over with a tv and electrical equipment. Assuming I was in the way, I said I would move out of the way and sit elsewhere.. I was met with a stoney silence and she plonked the tv on the table with the electrical wires on the table I was sitting. No hello, excuse me, thank you for moving, nothing. Very odd. Then, as my wife was at the bar, she said she said hello to her and was greeted with no hello or a smile but instead, a stare. The daughter was friendly and polite enough..... seems the she needs to learn some lessons from her if she wants to actually encourage customers into her pub rather than drive them away.

Arriving in the village for a short break we stopped for a drink on the way to our accommodation, at the time only outside seating was “ the rule” & the area was really nicely done, with a homely feel and very pleasant service, so on this basis we booked for an evening meal the next night and were not disappointed. By this time we could eat indoors in either The Bar or Restaurant, again service was pleasant, prompt and efficient. We chose Crab cakes and pate’ to start, both were tasty but the crab cakes were rather over cooked so a bit dry. For mains we chose Fish & Chips and a Chicken Burrito and were pleased with both. The portions were generous and nicely presented. The food was reasonably priced, the service was good and we would recommend a visit for a meal of good Pub Food with a few interesting extras on the menu.

Have now eaten here 3 times since it reopened. First time we had a roast. It was disappointing and luke warm. Nothing seemed homemade other than the Yorkshire pudding. Meat was the kind you buy in already sliced packs, gravy was the granule type and veg was cold and soft.it was taken back and microwaved. Second time was with friends. Between us we had fish and chips, hunters chicken, toad in the hole and the pasta. It was OK but once again didn't seem freshly made. So we actually did go back a third time and have now decided not to go back here for food again. It really isn't good. It's a shame because the pub is beautiful and has a great outside space.Covid regs are OK now. Bar staff are friendly but the manager isn't and acts as if he'd really like to be somewhere else. He was very rude to other patrons whilst we were there

Stopped in for a drink - looked at the menu and said to the bar maid that unfortunately there was no gluten free options. There was and soon the chef came out and explained how he could adjust the menu to cater for my wife. We came back a couple of days later and had a thoroughly good meal. Gluten free fish and chips and a starter too. Three Hook Norton real ales on tap too. The staff were very hospitable. The only downside was that in the restaurant drinkers from outside were walking to and from the beer garden past the table and looking at what you were eating and the sweets were a little pricey. Still worth a visit - a meal and a few drinks.

Upon walking into the quaint little village pub, I felt warmed and welcomed as soon as I walked through the door! I came with a few members of my family. You can tell this was a local pub, with a very cosy relaxed atmosphere! All staff were very friendly, and nothing was too much trouble! We dined at 13.30pm, and had roast beef! It was cooked to perfection, it melted in your mouth, roasties were crispy as well as your yorkie puds!. I would high recommend this lovely village pub/restaurant to many families, and couples, even lovely doggies are welcome with a great big garden to run around. I will definitely be visiting again - & We look forward to it!

Came on here to write a review of our Sunday lunch and I have to say I'm VERY surprised at the review below... Doesn't seem like the same place?? Anyway, my husband and I decided to treat our daughter to a proper Sunday roast and this place was recommended by some friends. What a fab pub! Beautiful bar full of character, lovely big gardens (great for our little girl to run around in), loads of parking and the village itself was so pretty- we needed a little walk around it after all that yummy food! We went into the restaurant to eat which was busy and perhaps a little loud at points but I took that as a sign that people were enjoying themselves! I had the pork and my husband and daughter had the beef. It was delicious- big portions and so tasty! actually my husband reckoned it was the best beef he's had out. Not like the over cooked grey beef you get in some places!Lovely home cooked food and smiley helpful staff who were so good with my little girl. We shall definitely be returning to sample more of the menu!

Five of us, including a cousin from California, booked for sunday lunch. We arrived at the appointed hour, namely 12.30, looking forward to a nice traditional British roast lunch. The young lad who greeted us was very pleasant, and eventually brought our drinks to table, at which point we placed our orders for the lunch (at 12.45). No-one ordered starters. Eventually, at 1.35, the mains came, with the vegetables following about 5 minutes later. The pork roast was rather fatty and not very appetising and my roast beef was extremely well-done round the edges but virtually raw in the centre. The yorkshires were not particularly good either being rather stodgy under a very hard crust - they looked as though they were reheated. All food that was considered edible was eaten by 1.50 and the lad cleared the table and brought the dessert board. We all decided on the profiteroles so the simple order was placed. When there was no sign of them arriving by 2.15 we abandoned the whole thing and asked for the bill which came very promptly. Unfortunately, the girl behind the bar seemed more interested in serving the regular drinkers than taking our money and it took almost another 10 minutes to get "service" from her.The final straw came later that night when I was violently sick twice. I cannot pin the cause down to any one thing but my suspicions fall on the rather inedible beef.Altogether a very disappointing end to a lovely visit by the American cousin!

Just had dinner at the George and I have to say all four meals within the party were deemed to be excellent. Looked like a new menu too. Keep it up George staff as you have one of the best beer gardens in the area and Old Hooky on tap

A small group of us chose to eat at the George on a not particularly busy Saturday evening. We sat in the dining room which is full of character and very comfortable. There is a choice of a la carte menu and the usual pub specials menu, all of which was well priced. When the food came it was excellent. However the speed of service was simply not good enough. After a round of drinks we went straight for the main course which was served one hour and twenty minutes after we sat down. Desserts took a further 35 minutes to arrive after finishing the main course. In all we were there two hours and 35 minutes to eat two courses. We got the distinct impression that there were either kitchen or waiting staff serving issues which, unfortunately, took the edge of what was otherwise a very pleasant evening. From other reviews maybe our experience was a one-off..I hope so.

Four friends and I had a wonderful weekend here. The food was superb -breakfast lunch and dinner! - and the staff relaxed and very friendly. We loved the traditional feel and the location. We walked from The George up to Brailes hill and had great views.

We popped in to the George after a walk in the local area for some much needed liquid refreshments. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and there was "a really cute dog" - my wife's words. The beer was well kept (mostly Hook Norton) and the garden is attractive with lots of seating. We will be back to eat soon!

After a 9 mile walk we were slightly late but we had such a friendly welcome, mainly by the locals sitting at the bar! We sat near the fire in the bar and soaked up the atmosphere and the draught Hooky. We each chose something different from the Sunday lunch menu and when the food came all 4 of us were delighted. The 8 hour pork shoulder melted in the mouth and came with a lovely sauce plus black pudding! My wife is vegetarian and chose the pasta dish, which was really special being made with whole fresh tomatoes, not the usual ready made sauce. The roast chicken and roast beef looked equally good. Such great value for £10 each!We should probably have moved into the restaurant as the bar got quite busy later, but we will definitely be coming back!

The George in Brailes is a good sized pub with 3 eating areas plus a covered outdoor area, so generally plenty of space.A Hooky Pub and unlike a few neighbouring ones has Old Hooky on draft so a good plus for the place. The food is good, no complaints. You can park either in front of the pub or through the Arch is a larger car park; in the summer this car park gets packed due to the large garden area enjoyed by families.

Visited here in early November for a pub meal. First visit in two years since change of ownership. Great log fire, range of ales (Hooky pub), beer garden for the summer. Food is very reasonably priced and good quality. There is a separate restaurant area - but this can seem a bit sterile.

The food is amazing! My husband and I visited with my parents who are visiting from Canada and found this pub as they like to try them all when they're over. Well, I was skeptical as so many pubs are average at best but we all had amazing meals, my father enjoyed his rice pudding so much that he went into the kitchen to say thank you to the chef. They also have a great selection of wines, New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc is my Mum's favourite so she was very pleased. We will definitely visit again, probably on the last night of their month long visit.

Another outstanding lunch today.Milano salami with a potato and horseradish salad. Yummy. Parents opted for creamy mushrooms with toast (smelt amazing) whilst my partner had avocado and prawns.Round two and we were ready. Succulent beef that fell apart in your mouth (apparently the pork was also very good). Proper and I mean proper roasties and Yorkshire puds. All served with delicious swede mash, perfectly cooked carrotts and cabbage. Any room left? No but we can never say no to the puddings on offer. My mum and I opted for the chilled baked custard with a nutmeg top, apple's caramelised in rum and shortbread your Gran used to make. Dad couldn't resist the BlackBerry ham sponge pudding with custard. Well who could. The smell wow. Phil went for the chocolate fudge cake with white chocolate sauce. All homemade and all delicious. All for just £16. Great value. Great service. Great food.

Large board outside the George promised "Good food, all day". We called at round about five p.m. - no food available " because it's Bank Holiday Monday". We had a drink and left. Called again mid afternoon the following day, same large board outside but not a menu in sight! We didn't have the patience to ask the landlord if there was any food on, downed our drinks and left. Few people in the pub except a couple of locals, hardly surprising really. The beer was O.K. Though.

The pub decor is a little run down which gives it a bit of a dated look unfortunately. The landlord is very friendly and welcoming though and they keep their beer well. The pub garden is lovely and great for kids and dogs. I've only eaten here twice and both times it was on fish and chips night. I have to say their fish and chips, whilst perhaps not the biggest portions around (but still probably too big for most people to finish to be fair!) is some of the nicest I have eaten locally. The batter on the fish in particular is excellent, not to thick and stodgy, lovely, light and crisp. Not my favourite pub in the area but certainly wouldn't hesitate to call in for a pint or fish and chips if I was passing.

A colleague from overseas and his wife were staying here on a few-days visit to UK. My wife and I joined them for dinner - and wow, we were so glad we did. The welcome from the staff, from the moment we walked in and throughout the evening was nothing short of wonderful. Friendly, professional and fun where appropriate. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent -- I would particularly recommend the Pigeon which I had as a starter - would have had it as main course if it had been an option. I suspect that if I'd asked, they would have accommodated that too - but there was plenty to choose from. All 4 of us enjoyed a great meal in a lovely space with a great view of the floodlit church in the grounds. Not cheap, but worth every penny - cannot recommend it highly enough and my wife and I are already planning to return soon.

Excellent in every way we were a group of friends all with dogs it’s a very dog friendly hotel. Mazine was the duty manager that weekend he was brilliant always there and happy to go that extra mile for the group. Fabulous food, clean spacious rooms and the staff are very friendly. I would highly recommend the hotel it’s in a great position friendly great food. I can’t understand why anyone could write a bad review if you want 5 star go to the Hilton or the Savoy

We stayed here and went to the restaurant to find it set for breakfast. On check out we discovered it had been closed for a year which caused issues as I’m type 1 diabetic! Shame also as the reviews were fantastic
