Lovely surroundings, but we were told before ordering that food would take 45 minutes. In the end we waited over an hour for our food and when it came the sausages I had ordered were on the burnt side.

Very old, atmospheric pub. We just stopped for a drink but food is available too. Bar service was quick and friendly and they have a number of local brews on offer. The building itself is very old and quite a quirky little space to be in, I'd recommend a visit just for that as it is an interesting place to be in let alone that they serve food and alcohol :) !

Stopped here for a late lunch on Sunday. The building is pretty amazing just could do with an update, looks a bit tired. Had the trio roast and it was fantastic, best roast potatoes EVER. My partner had the nut roast and she said it was by far the best she has had in many years, not dry, full of vegetables and great flavours. Well done the chefs and waiting staff

We came here a couple of times during our stay in Glastonbury. As a place to go for a decent pint and great atmosphere, it's really good. Eating, not so much. The Sunday lunch was embarrassingly poor, with awful roasties, hardly any veg, and split gravy. Come for the warm welcome and well-kept cellar, but don't stay for dinner!

We always stay at the George and Pilgrims hotel when we are in Glastonbury so we always breakfast there and we have dinner there most days. The bar is excellent. It is the only bar I have come across anywhere with a selection of meads- from the wonderful Lancashire Mead Company. On this occasion we were treated to the Krampus Spiced Mead- especially good served warm. The staff are friendly and chatty and always look after us well. the food is good, reasonably priced bar food that is always plentiful and enjoyable. There are always interesting people that we get chatting to. A really good place to eat and drink in the centre of Glastonbury.

Went there for Sunday roast with family, we ordered roast, main pork, and three kids chicken, portion ware very average for nearly £19 got slice of not very tender rather chewy rolled pork belly, with no crackling, 2 pieces of boiledish carrots 3 pieces of potatoes as you can’t really called it roasties as they were wrongly cooked, and some chopped unseasoned boiled cabbage. I don’t like to complain however I think the owner/manager needs to re train their staff how to handle some situation in this industry. I have found string on my plate which you can see on the phone, obviously I have told it the the lady who was serving us, literally no much reaction as it this was going on daily basis. Things like this should be resolved straight away, as this is Serious food safety Issues, contamination with foreign bodies. No apologise, nothing.

We drove here from Berkshire especially. Despite booking a table for dinner to celebrate our anniversary - we actually honeymooned here in 1977 - when we arrived we were told there was virtually no food left! Manageress pretty abrupt and unsympathetic. Ruined our day. We asked why she hadn’t contacted us as they had my phone number and email address, to get a shrug of the shoulders. What an attitude to the “hospitality” industry: couldn’t care less. Don’t rely on a friendly, caring welcome here - let alone anything to eat!

New staff is terrible. Super rude whilst I only asked for some mayonnaise. I've worked here myself years ago so I do know the magic. Management should know by now visitors come here to unwind and relax after their exhausting adventures. It's a place to be nourished. If the chap had just observed&responded all would have been well; but he REACTED. Shameful poor first visit of the year. I m glad to see most staff have moved up the ladder to QoC down the road. Superfriendly professional healthy place! G&P... would ve sent the food back or re ordered in an hour to settle the absorbed anger.

AS EXPECTED THIS PUB WAS VERY BUSY, HOWEVER WE FOUND A TABLE AS SOMEONE WAS LEAVING. MY WIFE WENT TO THE BAR TO ORDER OUR FOOD, THEN ONE OF THE WAITERS APPROACHED THE TABLE, WROTE SOMETHING OM A SMALL SLATE AND PLONKED IT ON THE TABLE IN FRONT OF ME. IT READ "RESERVED AT 7PM" IT WAS NOW 6:50PM. I QUESTIONED HIS ACTION AND ALL HE SAID WAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HIM THE MANAGER TOLD HIM TO DO IT. NORMALLY I WOULD STAND MY GROUND AND COMPLAIN BUT THERE WAS CHAOS AT THE BAR ANYWAY, SO WE JUST LEFT IT THERE.

Booked with booking.com and not disappointed. Had a four poster bed which was really comfortable and spacious. Jaunty slope to floor which was great given age of property. Large room, able to open 2 windows and fan also provide. Loved the huge deep chest at bottom of bed. Unsure why there were wet patches on carpet though-possibly spot cleaned by housekeeping? Would have stayed another night but room was already booked. Curved staircase added to the character of the hotel. Although no hotel parking there is a public car park behind the hotel-$6.50 all day, free 6pm-9am, blue badge holders free. Back entrance to hotel off this car park, couldn’t be easier. Easy reception & checked in early as room ready. Drop keys off in box on leaving. Toiletries supplied, tea/coffee making facilities and large bottle of water in room. Ate dinner in hotel, tasty and good choice. Breakfast included again tasty and good choice. Could do with more staff in evening as the 2 waiters were rushed off their feet. On leaving asked to pay by one when we had already paid the other. Waiter could have better knowledge of drinks or have a drinks menu for customers. Restaurant had some good artwork painted onto wall as did Jack Horners corner a nice little seating area over flagstone floor from bar & seating. Will definitely stay again in four poster bedroom, did have a peek at others in morning as being cleaned and lots of different size rooms of good size. We didn’t stay in the nuns cell or the confessional but loved the names.

After a festival I hadn’t booked anywhere so I was thankful to find that The George were serving food til 9pm on a Sunday. A roast was the offering so had a beef dinner. Had to wait a while as it was busy so had cider. When the food came it was delicious and fresh. The place is so full of history and I enjoyed reading the displays. Even snuck up to find the room Henry VIII stayed in. Over all a great meal and lovely place

Had a meal at the George and pilgrim today on a visit to Glastonbury, ordered the roasted cauliflower steak, what a disappointment, what I was served was nothing like a cauliflower steak just a roughly presented chunk of cauliflower which was pretty tasteless. We were looking forward to our visit to this old pub but may have chosen the wrong day to visit. It was May Day with people dressed in all sorts of elaborate costumes and obviously keen for a meal. We just managed to jag a table albeit a very wobbly one which didn't want to be righted even though one of the staff tried his best to fix it. Staff were run off their feet. We were especially impressed by the guy with the ponytail who was very good in difficult circumstances. Lots of pressure. We visited just after 6pm and it was obvious they weren't prepared for being so busy. My wife was unable to get the linguine because they had run out. She got a burger instead. I couldn't get the ham, eggs and chips because they had run out. They had also run out of the pie of the day. I settled for fish and chips in the end. The food was ok. I had an interesting addition to my meal - a smear of curry sauce. It was actually quite good. My wife found a small leaf of lettuce in her burger but is still looking for the advertised cheese. She was a tad surprised when she asked at the bar for a shiraz or a syrah. They didn't have any. She thought it to be a fairly standard wine to have in any pub. Disappointing. Saved only by the helpful staff member mentioned earlier.

Stayed here many times and always enjoyed staying here. Not this visit though. Checked in after a wait and plenty of people saying "be with you in a minute". Room 15. Went to the bar to get a drink, we had booked a table in the restaurant earlier for the evening. Bar person acknowledged me, served the person already at the bar as he was there first. A local walked in, got served next, a couple walked in got served next, etc. Found a manager in the corridor and explained we had a table booked in the restaurant (table service on drinks), he shoved us in a pub alcove (not table service), so I asked for 2 drinks, and was told you can got to the bar for those. I explained I had already tried that and asked for 2 drinks again. At last 2 pints of cider! We went elsewhere for food. Bedtime was not much better than the appalling service. Room 15 has a REALLY LOUD fan outside the window, All in all pretty poor service and poor sleep. Also they are very unresponsive to a complaint via booking.com. After so many lovely visits, this has put me off returning. End of an era. The breakfast lady was as lovely as ever x

Amazing building but terrible lunch. Ordered the soup, arrived in a bowl similar size to a small tea cup, with a slice of white toast. Not the mini loaf described on the menu. Felt thoroughly insulted & cheated to be served such a tiny portion. Will not return on principle. Why do they do this? So shortsited as they loose customers by saving a very small amout of money.

Whenever I come to Glastonbury, I always look forward to coming to the George and pilgrims for lunch however, this will change in the future. I don’t know if it’s the current financial situation or if there’s new owners, but to be quite frank, I was disgusted. Last year the soup was excellent, and a very hearty meal, this year, not so much. First we were given knives and forks, which would have been very interesting, but considering everything may have been a good idea , at least it would have lasted longer! as there was more volume in the coffee that I had before ordering, blink and you’d miss us dining! Literally gone in 30 second flat. We just sat staring at the small cup size “bowls” in front of us. The two slices of ciabatta bread were so thin I could see my dining partner through them and were about the length of my thumb, and I have small hands. Plus the price was £6.95 each!!! Seriously felt like I was treated like an idiot. It’s a damn good job I wasn’t really hungry, although my dining partner was and had to have a meal somewhere else. When we mentioned our dissatisfaction to one of the waiters, he said well, it is a starter… this wasn’t mentioned on the menu or chalk board, even so, you expect your starter to last for more than a minute! Even he agreed that it was small and for the waiter to say that surely that says something. Both of us said we will never eat here again. Such a shame

We have eaten at the G&P countless times over the years. This recent experience has been one of the worst. It’s “pub grub” ok, you don’t expect to pay the extortionate prices for very average pub grub food. Sunday lunch. Hubby had beef. Frozen Yorkshire, tiny portions, roast pots were hard and inedible. Mash was £5 extra. This average meal retailed at £21 l! I had veg burger, tiny portion of frozen chips, minuscule coleslaw, £18.99! I just want value for money, this is not!!

On the plus side it's a unique, ancient hostelry, service was excellent and it was pleasantly warm. Food was standard, serving drinks in plastic cups, please serve people with glass, we aren't children and it was the afternoon as well so the Carnival cannot be made as an excuse. The pub still has its amazing vibe and the staff were friendly, I...

This pub was recommended to us & to be honest from the exterior we might well not hv gone inside. Once inside though it’s full of charm & history. Decor is a bit “rough around the edges” but that just adds to the charm of...

Every single time I give this place another try for food, it's a farce. This time, the menu in the pub is totally different to the menu online. So having decided to eat here based on the options (and prices) online, and also to give...

A wonderful old premises with a huge amount of history, well worth visiting even if just for a drink. It is a large place, the breakfast menu is pretty good and the beers are kept well.

Although the chicken burger did not state a spicy coating, it was very spicy, however the staff were very accommodating and changed this for a plain burger for me. The food and staff were excellent.

A really nice pub in the centre of town with some good food options, including excellent chicken wings. The service was fast and there's a good selection of drinks.

We booked dinner here for a large family meal with people travelling in from different places in the UK. Rebekah from the Townhouse had already sent us menus in advance (very useful when a group contains young children older relatives!) so we could pre-order. This was particularly helpful when, predictably with people travelling in from multiple locations, we were late. We phoned ahead and Rebekah was extremely understanding and rearranged our time without any fuss. When did get there the service was excellent and the food outstanding. The Townhouse burgers were especially popular. Everyone left feeling very happy and satisfied. Thank you very much to Rebekah and everyone at The Townhouse.

Was really excited to try out this restaurant. Had read the media coverage and have tremendous respect for the owners. It was busy, nice weather had brought the crowds out to the outside dining area. It seems impossible to get good service these days, when you do it is rare. Has eveyone good left the industry post covid... There were plenty of staff on the floor, but systems and training were clearly lacking, and the basic good standards sadly lacking. As soon as we walked in lack of a clear greeting was a sign of what was to come. We ended up waiting far too long for our mains to arrive. Other tables also complaining and warning us about the lack of service. The place itself is beautifully & tastefully done. The menu reads incredibly well. The food did not disappoint. I sat eating the Fish Soup, trying to recall a better soup that I had ever eaten. This, I have to say was the best, absolutely incredible. The rest of the dishes were well cooked, and good, but nothing knock out. Rarely give reviews, but the lack of service was a big issue. One guy seemed to be more senior, but he was way out of his depth. Not even a goodbye as we left despite making eye contact with the Manager and floor staff! Would not recommend until the service is sorted out.
