We had an amazing lunch here. A brisk walk along the Test Way for a couple of hours then into the pub. They have their own brewed beer ‘HBT’ which is delicious and at 3.8% eminently quaffable. Sunday lunch started with some whitebait and homemade mayonnaise which was lovely to share across the table. The main was Roast Beef - unctuous and with a silky gravy too. Serving kale with it made me feel a little virtuous too. For pudding I just chose the locally made fudge - chocolate and cinnamon along with a perfect coffee. Altogether a delight.

We stayed here on our way home from Cornwall, very convenient location. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Dinner was lovely although a little pricey. Our room was comfortable with lovely big fluffy bath towels and great toiletries. A slightly bigger TV would be good, the blind was broken and the shower had black mold, which was a shame and could easily be resolved. Breakfast was good.

I have been wanting to stop off at the George and Dragon for years as I regularly drive past it. After a long dog walk in the raining, and after visiting the brilliant Garage Gallery Gifts in the village we went into the pub. It is a beautiful pub inside, incredibly welcoming with a log burner which was needed after the freezing hail we had walked through. There dogs were as welcome as we were and the staff were very friendly. I had the burger and chunky chips which was delicious - thick bacon and fresh red onions were spot on. My only improvement would be a larger selection of vegetarian options (obviously not for me but one of my friends didn't have a lot of choice) and some smaller plates. Sandwiches were available though not on the menu - and my friend really enjoyed it. And apparently the rhubarb trifle was delicious! A really lovely pub and if I didn't live so close I would love to overnight there as there is a really nice feeling about the place. Will definitely go back.

We had not visited this pub for a very long time so thought it would be a convenient place for lunch. It was apparently "Burger Day" so the rest of the menu was limited Two of us had the special Pheasant pie ,well maybe a pheasant had flown over but there wasn't much pleasant in the pie .One of our party had the chop which looked much better .Puddings were pricey at £8 .drinks ok .Décor was interesting quite dark but with a roaring fire .felt a bit like you were intruding in someone's front room .Not really our schene so it will not be added to our list of favourites

📍The George and Dragon, Hurstbourne Tarrant A pub lunch with the grandparents! Gran has been dying to go here so she decided to take me before going back to Uni. Came on a Friday lunchtime and it was steadily busy. It was warm, with a cosy atmosphere sat next to the fire. We decided to go for starters in which I got the soup of the day, with sourdough bread, which was a roasted red pepper and tomato. It came out piping hot which is always a good sign and the roasted red pepper flavour hit me immediately. The bread was lightly toasted so it was a little toasted on the outside but still very fluffy in the middle and accompanied the soup nicely. The balsamic drizzle on the top of the soup added a lovely hint of sweetness, which I really enjoyed. For main, I went for the special venison burger. This contained a venison patty in a brioche bun, lettuce, truffle mayo, blue cheese, and caramelised onion. And wow was it a special! The strong flavour of the venison was perfectly balanced out with the sweetness of the onions, and truffle mayo is my absolute FAVOURITE so was a massive fan of this. Portion size was also very good, I was so full afterwards. The chips were very generously salted, but luckily for me I love salty chips so this was no issue, as well as being very crispy, which again I love. We were too full for puddings, but for main course Gran had the fish and chips (as shown in the picture), which she said was lovely, but was too full to finish it (shock). Overall service was really good, and it was a lovely meal. Quite pricey for a village pub, but would go again. The seasonal menu changes frequently, so I would like to try the summer menu too.

I stayed here during the week. The room was well furnished and the bed was very comfortable that made for a pleasant stay. The evening food was simply delicious, with lots of ingredients sourced from local sources. The chef uses them to a masterful degree to make sensational dishes! Breakfast is served from 8:30am. Coming down for breakfast, the fires were already roaring, making it a very pleasant atmosphere to start the day. Lots of options, I chose the avocado and egg. Served with a great coffee, this was exactly what I needed to set the day off!

Visited with 2 mates for an early dinner, and was really impressed. Fabulous atmosphere, plenty of wood burners around the pub, really cosy, and our food was great / couldn’t fault the food, best burger I’ve had in a long time, cooked absolutely perfectly. In fact, I have been harsh evaluating as a 4, not 5; partly because 5 means nothing could be improved; partly because we all reflected what our wives could have chosen to eat from the menu had we been a 6 not 3. So I’m re-evaluating as a 5 based on our evening alone; I would also acknowledge the friendly / attentive service. Back to the menu - any chance of adding a couple of dishes that would appeal to gym-going, ultra health conscious veggies? eg a winter salad bowl would be ideal. In any event, we’ll be back! We agreed it was a great find

We were passing and decided to give this pub a go and so glad we did! A Wednesday night and busy, but they kindly found us a table. The food was amazing, service was friendly, and a cosy atmosphere. Only problem for me personally (which will make it appeal to many) is that it is dog friendly, and we were sat next to a table with a large dog that set off my allergies so I was quite uncomfortable by the end of the meal.

Wow, what a wonderful place with good food and spacious seating indoors and outdoors. Plenty of parking, don’t let the first glance trick you - they have plenty of parking and places to spread out for dining or at the bar. The people working there made it extra fun! We wanted to go back because of them but we had to leave the area. Wish we had found them sooner during our stay. I can see staying in their rooms someday. Located in an historic and gorgeous village too, the place is historic too. The oldest part of the building is centuries old yet solid. One previous owner of it left her signature etched on a glass pane in the 1800s. (We Americans love that stuff)! Thanks to the staff for a memorable and fun and tasty visit. We hope to see you again someday!

I wanted to give 4.5 stars really but no option to do so! We stayed here as a stopover on the way to the Cotswolds and we were so pleasantly surprised! Had what is possibly the best burger I’ve ever had for dinner and breakfast was a great choice of cooked and a little cute continental display. Service was super friendly over breakfast - had to prompt for menus over dinner but otherwise no issues! Room was very cute, bed a teeny bit small but only because I was travelling with a huge pregnancy pillow! Bath was HUGE but had a bit of mildew round the edges. Was kept awake by next door snoring for a bit of the night but otherwise slept well. Amazing views and a beautiful village. Would definitely return.

Booked last minute for the bank holiday to meet my sister and her family as a halfway point as we are from Somerset. My sister couldn’t stay at the hotel but booked close by however we booked a table for dinner at the George and Dragon restaurant and we just had a wonderful time. The staff were amazing, they really couldn’t do enough and we were quite loud playing uno in the back room that they had set up just for us! The food was faultless, beef roast delicious, fish super fresh, the vegetables cooked perfectly and the best cauliflower cheese I have ever tasted. We had varied needs from vegetarian to allergies and everything was catered for. The hotel itself is a old fashioned pub that is nestled in the rolling hills of Hampshire. So quiet - just what we wanted. The hotel is dog friendly and was perfect for our little pooch. We had two double rooms and they were nicely decorated, all the little added extras of toiletries, descent selection of tea and coffee in the room, bottled water. The view from our room was beautiful. Breakfast included and was delicious just everything was great. I cannot fault this place. Well done team George and Dragon, compliments to the chefs and to the waiting staff. Hope to see you again soon!

We booked to have a Sunday Roast here on 16 April at 12:45. We arrived a little early at 12:10 and were given the table in the "Naughty Corner". This place is literally steeped in history and is a typical oldie worldee pub/restaurant/Inn, which when we are back this way again, we would stay at in a heartbeat. The Car park area was easy to negotiate when we arrived. However by the time we left you really needed your wits about you to negotiate the parked/abandoned cars which had been left in some very awkward positions. If the main car park is full when you arrive, there is further parking up the side road near the church. The staff that we met and that also served us, were just simply amazing and so friendly. We really did enjoy our visit. Drinks are reasonably priced and the Sunday Roasts on offer are just superb. Both my wife and I opted for the Roast Chicken and it came with, Roast Potatoes, Carrot, Parsnip, a Yorkshire pudding, gravy and two dishes of further vegetables including a mouth-watering Cauliflower Cheese. We also were given an extra small pot of gravy which was excellent, as we both needed extra once we had all the veg on our plates. Half way through our meals our waitress "Bethan" asked us if we would like anymore roast potatoes, vegetables or gravy. That was an excellent touch we felt, but in fact we were both absolutely full. We never had any starter or dessert as we found the main course perfect for us. Thank you all for a really lovely Sunday Roast and we will certainly call in again if we are ever in the area.

We had a great meal for a family Christening celebration in the private dining room for 15 guests. The food was delicious and to a high standard and beautifully presented. Jas was great in organising the event in advance and dealing with our requests so our group arrived to a glass of champagne which was lovely. We were well looked after and the probate dining room is great for a large group as nicely decorated and feels private from the rest of the pub.

The overall impression of the menu is that they're using cheap, perhaps specially bought in, ingredients, then bumping up the price before discounting it down using the scheme to something approaching reasonable. When the bill came they'd automatically added a 10% service charge, it was supposedly optional but you'd have to ask for it to be taken off. To add insult to injury it's calculated from the full, pre-discount price. The service itself was very good.Pub is nicely decorated and clean. We will not be returning.

As we arrived and took our seats in a lovely courtyard part of the garden, we suddenly became aware of what I can only describe as a luminous presence- tall, good looking, an almost regal bearing. It was Patrick or "Paddy" the landlord. He greeted us, instantly putting us at our ease, and running us through the day's menu.Like his namesake St Patrick, who drove the snakes out of Ireland, Paddy and his team drove the hunger out of us. The meal was impeccable, the service exemplary, and the landlord breathtaking. If only there was a 6th star to award!

e stayed here for on night to break our journey and its didn't disappoint. Lovely welcome from all the staff. WE ate and drank in the bar all very friendly and Covid restrictions adhered to. Free WifiPersonally I had the best burger and chips in ages. The Room was in a cottage across from the dining room. Shower room was a little small but hey. Nice comfy bed and fresh white towels. my only complain is housekeeping need to dust behind the bedboard and under the bed. We slept well had a hearty breakfast. Plenty of space lovely grounds and beer garden and dogs welcome. Plenty of parking. Highly recommend and if you are going to Highclere Castle its a short drive away

Stayed in the ‘cottage’ one bed apartment for two nights. Lovely gated separate building, very modern and fantastic condition. Worked fantastically for the dog too who could wander safely in and out of the apartment/private patio. Had food in the pub for one night and although (expected) reduced menu it was great food and service. Staff could nt have been more helpful and friendly. Def recommend especially if you want dog friendly.

Fair play to the George and Dragon for continuing to operate during the pandemic with takeaway options, and them reopening when allowed to.We've been meaning to come here for some years and decided to book for a Wednesday night to support the local business. The menu on the website looked great and we were looking forward to steak and fish and chips. We arrived and were shown to a table, a drinks order of two soft drinks were taken which took 10 mins to arrive, more than enough time for us to consider the options on the menu we had been given. Sadly it appeared to be a special and very limited menu for Wednesdays. It wasn't filling us with great admiration but we picked two mains (arrived quickly) and then opted for the bill. The server looked a bit put out that that is all we wanted. Food was great, staff pleasant and totally understand the need for a reduced menu on current climate but you need to give some notice to people before they arrive, otherwise you are going to get disappointed customers.

We visited here in the middle of a wall to rest and was the only place nearby. As it was an afternoon it was quiet but seemed Covid prepared. It has a lot of outdoor seats and is very cute inside. Although be aware the kitchen closes in the afternoon so don’t have food available all day.

Not a huge menu and pretty standard and basic pub food. Having said that they were happy to make an adjustment to my main course without issue. Serve was excellent. We sat outside as it was a hot evening. Outside seating area was OK but nothing special. Inside areas looked nice.

We decided to try our luck for a spur of the moment lunch date at The George and Dragon, our first since coming out of lock-down. We were greeted by friendly staff who made us feel at ease right away explaining the protocols to keep us safe while dining. The pub has a calm relaxed feel but social distancing was maintained at all times as tables are well spaced out. The staff could not have been more attentive throughout and we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch! The chef was very accommodating in responding to our requests to alter our order slightly and what was presented was absolutely delicious! Our food, the sea bass specials were cooked beautifully, fresh and flavoursome! It was a real treat! We will definitely be back and would 100% recommend.

After planning a long overdue catchup with a free, a chance to dine out in a restaurant in which I've had several fantastic meals- culinary delights, we were so underwhelmed to say the least. Made worse as we'd travelled, decided to drink and spend £25 on a taxi home- wish we'd have stayed at home in all honesty.First of all, the food wasn't bad (didn't have to send it back) and the service very attentive. When you decide to eat out, you expect a treat, not something below that most people could cook at home with little skill or effort. The meals required very little, if any, chef skills. Choice of 3 starters (whitebait, a soup or pate), 3 mains and 3 deserts- all exceptionally basic. Quarter of roast chicken (no flavour) french fries (they are what they are) and a minimal dollop of coleslaw. Salmon fish cakes were ok with a few, I mean a few bits of veg. The other option would have been a salad. Deserts, we had brownie and ice cream, again ok. Reminded me of attending large corporate events, where it was all pre-prepared and had little flavour. If we'd have wanted what can be described as a chicken and chips basket meal, we'd have gone elsewhere, a basic pub that employ kitchen hands (not proper chefs) or a cafe- this is our honest comparison. We were informed it was due to a smaller team, but I do wonder why the following day (today), back to normal menu, same potential amount of covers. Having telephoned just now to seek some sort of clarification, a lady did try and explain it's to do with working out the 50% discount and limited staff. Main feedback, if you are going to offer a restricted menu at least make it a decent selection, perhaps even from your normal menu. Utterly disappointed based on previously set expectations.Gin and Wine was nice but after spending £80 in total we were exceptionally disappointed that we'd commited in the first place. So, so let down. As I say, staff attentive no problems there.

Our first meal out last night since pubs were allowed to reopen and we were pleasantly surprised! The service was, as usual, very attentive and knowledgeable about the wife’s wine choice! The food was also a bargain at £10 for three courses but this didn’t show in the quality as it was the same great standard. Coronavirus measures were in place and adhered to and we all felt very safe whilst eating in. Will be back soon!

Stopped off here for a bite to eat whilst driving through the village and what can I say... We thoroughly enjoyed every minute here. The staff are friendly and couldn't do enough for us, the food was amazing and fairly priced for the quality of it.We would highly recommend a visit here if you are lucky enough to get the chance. My fiancée and I will make sure that if we are in the area again to visit and have another meal, we have told all our friends and family about this place. You will not be disappointed!!

The wife, the kid and I went back to this place after a while away. We've always enjoyed it but it was even better this time. The staff are so nice and look after you brilliantly. I was a bit nervous to be in a pub again but they have loads of room between tables and take lots of care to respect social distancing. The food was excellent and I really enjoyed their house wine. We'll be back again soon i hope!

Once again, the george and dragon are hitting all the right spots. This treat out was to experience the ‘Eat out to help out scheme’ for the first time. You are greeted by the team as soon as you arrive, briefed on the measures they have put in place (1 way system and arrows on to follow, no bar service) and made to feel welcome. This was done in such a relaxed way you barely feel like covid had even been around! jThe menu had been adapted from what we had seen before, but it didn’t disappoint. Absolutely delicious and amazing value for £10! 3 great choices for every course and for an absolute bargain. I recommend the sticky toffee pudding! The team are amazing, they are a much smaller unit than we remembered pre covid - however the standards of service have not slipped! Like above, they helped to make the whole experience feel somewhat back to normality, but in a safe environment. We will most certainly be back to experience EOTHO but also to enjoy their main menu when we can. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Smart, efficient pub doing a simple menu in lovely clean surroundings! Understated social distancing made this an almost normal Sunday lunchtime visit. Food was good quality and very reasonably priced, beer was excellent. Will come again!

This was our first meal out since easing of lockdown. We went on the reopening night (4th) so we were prepared for things not being quite right. We were surprised and delighted. There are fewer tables to comply with social distancing, and "no touch" table service, the staff bring food and drinks on a tray which they put on the table and then step back, but despite this standards are as good as ever.I ordered whitebait to start and the lady had a soft cheese salad, both were delicious, and my whitebait was perfectly crisp. She had the Bavette steak, very rare as ordered and I opted for a pie which was delicious. For dessert I tried the sticky toffee pudding while she sampled the ice creams. The biosecurity is effective but unobtrusive, the staff are fewer but dedicated and friendly and the standards in the kitchen are as high as ever. This establishment has coped well with the restrictions and is operating a first class service. Please note that reservations are needed, even if you are only drinking, contact tracing is in operation and cards are preferred to cash.

The George and Dragon have been supporting the Nurses and staff of Andover War Memorial Hospital since the beginning of the Pandemic, by sending in free lunches to the staff working on a Sunday. The George and Dragon have been doing this from the start of the pandemic and continue to do so. The food is excellent and is freshly cooked. And of a very high standard, and always hot. Your commitment and hard work is second to none, and your ability to maintain the high standards of food as a takeaway are amazing. We thank you very much for your support, many of us plan to visit you so we can enjoy the food in the comfort of your surroundings when the pandemic is over.

I went with my friends and partner to watch the England v Spain game. Sadly England lost but the atmosphere was still great in there. The land lady made sure she found a seat for everyone, grabbing the garden chairs from the back and rearranging the tables so everyone could get a glimpse of a goal. When the match was ending, all of the tables were given a bowl of roasties to share on the house. The land lady was chatty and kind. The staff were also really nice. It is a small pub on the edge of romsey but I would definitely go there again.

Adequate for a one night stay. Staff were most welcoming and helpful. The check-in with the corporate IT system proved problematic. It refused to take my visa card(s) - 3, and we eventually paid by cash. The staff were excellent, and service was also first class.

Recommended by my family living locally who visit regularly. So we did. Quite quirky we loved that! Bar area and separate eating. Ordered mackerel pate on toast (homemade) & mushrooms on toast both were delicious. Coffee was pretty good not too strong. My sister had a smiley face on her latte… I was envious but promised it would be my turn next visit 😂 Mike the owner was lovely very friendly and knew our cousins. My sister & I will make this our go to place as I live in Surrey & she in Hants. A good midway point to meet. We both have fond memories of Romsey as children. So see you in a couple of weeks time & there after > 👍
